The Secret Service warned in December 2020 that the far-right group Proud Boys planned to "kill people" during the January 6, 2021 march to the US Capitol.
That's according to internal emails released for the first time Thursday by the House Select Committee investigating the Capitol riot.
"They think that they will have a large enough group to march into DC armed and will outnumber the police so they can't be stopped," said one email sent a little after 9 p.m. ET on December 26, 2020.
"Their plan is to literally kill people," it continued. "Please please take this tip seriously and investigate further."
The email also noted that the Proud Boys had detailed their plans on a number of right-wing websites and forums.
In addition to the Secret Service, the FBI also warned of violence at the Capitol on the day of then-President Donald Trump's "Save America" rally.
An internal situational report warned on January 5, 2021 that pro-Trump insurrectionists were planning to wage a "war" at the US Capitol the next day, The Washington Post reported last year.
The Bureau's office in Norfolk, Virginia, issued the warning, saying that it "received information indicating calls for violence in response to 'unlawful lockdowns' to begin" on January 6 in Washington, DC, The Post reported.
According to The Post, the FBI report cited an "online thread" that "discussed specific calls for violence," including one that said: "Be ready to fight. Congress needs to hear glass breaking, doors being kicked in, and blood from their BLM and Pantifa slave soldiers being spilled. Get violent. Stop calling this a march, or rally, or a protest. Go there ready for war. We get our President or we die. NOTHING else will achieve this goal."

Black Lives Matter faced an extreme police response. The January 6th mob was met with something completely different. - CREW | Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington
Sara Wiatrak
On the evening of January 6, 2021, an FBI official reached out to their colleagues and compared the day’s events to Black Lives Matter protests that took place the previous summer:
“Folks, sorry I’m going to miss the winter iteration on the streets of D.C. with you. For those there in June, you know the drill: use your heads and look after each other.”
The official’s assessment is misguided on two counts: first, law enforcement clearly did not employ the same “drill” when responding to Black Lives Matter protests and the insurrection—and in fact employed a mere fraction of the power used during the Black Lives Matter protests to address the violent attack on the Capitol. Second, the insurrection was an unprecedented and deadly attack on democracy—far from just another iteration of the regular peaceful protests that take place in Washington, D.C., as this official implies—and in no way comparable to overwhelmingly peaceful protests for racial justice.
CREW reviewed numerous government documents that demonstrate the vastly different treatment that insurrectionist groups and racial justice groups received. In June 2020, U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s Law Enforcement Safety and Compliance Directorate implemented an “all hands on deck” response to racial justice protests, increasing officer numbers and supplying rifles and other weapons. Ahead of January 6th however, the agency decided to only provide support “as needed” in an “off-sight [sic] standby status.” Meanwhile, as the Secret Service relayed information about pro-Trump groups coming to D.C. to incite violence, the National Guard dispatched 851 personnel to Kenosha, Wisconsin in anticipation of the district attorney’s decision on whether to prosecute the officers who killed Jacob Blake. Ultimately, no violence erupted in Kenosha.
Even before January 6th itself, federal law enforcement appeared to lend more credibility to the potential for counter demonstrations by anti-fascist groups than the right-wing protesters that were demonstrating a potential for violence. According to documents CREW obtained, a member of the Secret Service noted in an email that the “vast majority” of the groups coming to D.C. on January 6th were arriving in support of Trump, then listed four specific groups out of the 50 indicated to be demonstrating: the Proud Boys, Refuse Fascism, They Them Collective/DC Your Liberation and MillionMAGAMarch. The Proud Boys are a far-right, fascist, white supremacist group registered as a terrorist group in other countries, that the Secret Service knew may bring violence to the Capitol. MillionMAGAMarch was mentioned in the same email to have organized two previous demonstrations in November and December 2020 that led to “large groups of some minor reports of violent activity… [sic]”
Meanwhile, the two plainly anti-fascist groups had no indications of potential violence in any of the documents CREW obtained nor seemingly online ahead of the demonstrations. Refuse Fascism is a notably non-violent anti-Trump advocacy group, and They Them Collective—a pro-Black and -Brown liberation group—was described to be coming as a counter to the Proud Boys.
When pro-Trump groups began arriving in D.C., surrounding the Washington Monument, and ultimately attacking the Capitol building on January 6th, law enforcement still took a hands off approach. Despite the clear warnings about what was headed toward the Capitol, the US Park Police had inadequately prepared before January 6th, so its officers were rapidly overwhelmed to the point where they could not afford to make arrests and let any personnel leave the scene with arrestees. As insurrectionists gathered on the Washington Monument grounds, the officers noticed some of them were wearing full riot gear and were potentially armed. Other officers monitoring insurrectionists at the Lincoln Memorial were given instructions to not intervene so as to not “agitate” the rioters. The morning of the attack unfolded with discoveries of pipe bombs and violence against the Park Police themselves, yet units on the scene were ultimately told to “monitor only. Please do not take any type of enforcement action. Let it happen.” This is in stark contrast to the government’s response to the peaceful racial justice protests in D.C. in 2020, which were met with preparation of aerial surveillance by drones, calls to put a stop to the “riots and domestic terrorism,” and a mobilization of several different federal agencies to provide law enforcement support.
The actual attack on the Capitol was also completely incomparable to protests for racial justice. Insurrectionists were extremely violent, vandalizing the Capitol building to gain access and committing more than 1,000 assaults on federal officers, which led to an estimated 250 injured law enforcement officers across numerous agencies, including 140 injured Capitol Police and D.C. police officers, and at least seven deaths. Rioters also explicitly threatened elected officials, threatening to hang Mike Pence and Nancy Pelosi—all with the aim of preventing the certification of the election. Meanwhile, the vast majority of protests for racial justice were peaceful; one report found that 93% of protests across the country were peaceful, and D.C.’s police chief went on record to say that when protests in Washington were at their height, they occurred “exclusively without violence.” Federal law enforcement offices reported that 155 officers and federal agents were injured over the course of the first week of racial justice protests—less than occurred in just a few hours on January 6th. Despite the obvious differences, D.C. police arrested more than five times as many people at the height of the Black Lives Matter protests in summer 2020 than they did during the day of insurrection at the Capitol.
Despite what an FBI official shared with their colleagues on January 6th, the insurrection and Black Lives Matter protests were not the same “drill” at all—and even though the mob at the Capitol was drastically more violent before and after the attack, insurrectionists did not experience anywhere near the same amount of police force racial justice protesters did. The public deserves to know why peaceful Black Lives Matter protesters faced an extreme police response while law enforcement granted violent insurrectionists significant leniency.

I actually think the risk of rioting if Trump is arrested is low? I could be proved wrong---this isn't an opinion I have because I think Trump supporters are peaceful or because I've memory-holed 1/6. But other Trump actions have come well-telegraphed as I knew about 1/6 in mid-November of the preceding year. The support for a pro-Trump action even then was pretty flaccid; people were supposed to gather at all 50 Statehouses in tandem with the DC march and those were not especially well-attended or remarkable events. I don't think Trump has put the money and planning into a redux, and I don't even see the evidence he has a robust network of ride-or-die supporters who can spring into action to organize another 1/6 as many of the people involved last time are still wrapped up with law enforcement from last time.
Again, this take could age like milk in the summer sun, and I certainly wouldn't rule out stochastic terrorism. (I think that's the much larger threat than another 1/6, in fact!) Law enforcement should be preparing for a convulsion because, I mean, what the fuck do we pay those fuckers for? But I give long odds to another 1/6-type incident over his arrest

Are we going into martial law

“To some observers, a deployment of troops under the Insurrection Act might look and feel very much like martial law,” the Brennan Center says. 'Like a puppet': Trump's subtle body language clues in post impeachment speechĬonfronting new photos emerge as US braces for chaosĪccording to New York University’s Brennan Center for Justice, martial law has no established definition, however it is possible to deploy the military under the Insurrection Act. 'Take hostages': Disturbing new claims about Trump supporters in US riots “We are going to see martial law declared.” This is coming straight from my contacts in DC, y’all,” the pastor claimed on Facebook. Generally, the institution of martial law contemplates some use of military force. Answer (1 of 3): Pretty much Congress will have to agree to it. Curiously, according to the Supreme Court, the term martial law carries no precise meaning (Duncan v. I've always been kinda confused by the way people use the term "BIPOC"
For one thing like I know black and indigenous struggles do intersect but the communities also face a lot of issues that are very different from each other - so I don't get why they're grouped together
I also don't understand why it's only black and indigenous people. For example I saw someone talking about the attempted coup today saying "if you're in Washington DC please be careful and stay inside, especially if you're BIPOC."
I mean, I think in general trump supporters hate latinx people/people who look latinx and people who look like they are from the middle east far more than they hate indigenous people. I feel like they would be way more likely to attack someone if they knew/thought they were latinx or middle eastern than if they knew/thought they were indigenous.
I live in a very conservative area and my whole family is really conservative so I can't really have real life conversations about this with people who know more than me so sorry if what I'm saying is wrong or uneducated. I'm trying to learn more which is why I'd like to understand what the purpose of BIPOC is. If anyone could explain this I would be really grateful.

Where is the national guard, why are the police doing anything?! Oh how could I forget, I live in AmeriKKKa where in the summertime (and throughout the history of this country) Black people and people supporting the Black Lives Matter movement were being tear gassed, shot with rubber bullets and being arrested for protesting for basic human rights and wanting to be treated with respect for Black people and people of color while Trump supporters are literally inside the US Capitol going insane with violence simply because Donald lost the election and they’re causing all this mayhem!! This is disgusting and horrendous!!! I am simply at a lost. Somebody lost their life because of Donald Trump!! Don’t matter who the person was, the fact that somebody died because of him should make you mad and sick at him. When Donald won the election many were upset but nothing like this EVER HAPPENED!!! Remember this day and remember what side of history you are choosing to be on. ✊🏾

U.S. state capitals prepare for armed protests as Inauguration Day approaches
Washington, D.C., was locked down and U.S. law enforcement officials geared up for pro-Trump marches in all 50 state capitals this weekend, erecting barriers and deploying thousands of National Guard troops to try to prevent the kind of violent attack that rattled the nation on Jan. 6. The FBI warned police agencies of possible armed protests outside all 50 state capitol buildings starting…

A federal judge pressed prosecutors for answers on low restitution fees required of Capitol rioters during a hearing on Monday.
Chief US District Judge Beryl A. Howell of Washington, DC, asked why the Department of Justice is seeking only $1.5 million in repayment from Capitol riot defendants while US taxpayers are footing a bill of more than half a billion to pay for repairs stemming from the January 6 pro-Trump attack.
The US Attorney's office is seeking $2,000 in every felony case stemming from the riot, and $500 in each misdemeanor case, which, even if every current defendant pleaded guilty and paid, would still equal less than $1.5 million, according to The Washington Post.
"I'm accustomed to the government being fairly aggressive in terms of fraud when there have been damages that accrue from a criminal act for the restitution amount,'' Howell said in court on Monday according to the outlet.
"Where we have Congress acting, appropriating all this money due directly to the events of January 6, I have found the damage amount of less than $1.5 million — when all of us American taxpayers are about to foot the bill for close to half a billion dollars — a little surprising," she said.
In June, prosecutors estimated the total amount of damage done to the Capitol grounds during the insurrection at $1,495,326.55, though few additional details were provided. Assistant US Attorney Clayton Henry O'Connor told Howell on Monday that the government would provide an explanation for how it determined the cost of the damage before October, The Post reported.
But legislators have already allotted millions of dollars more than the estimated $1.5 million to cover the cost of damages from the insurrection. On July 29, Congress passed a $2.1 billion security bill that included reimbursements for the National Guard, Capitol Police, and Capitol security improvements, totaling $521 million, $70 million, and $300 million respectively.
Monday's plea hearing was for Glenn Wes Lee Croy, a 46-year-old Colorado man who admitted to entering the Capitol building on January 6. During the hearing, Howell wondered aloud why reimbursements for the National Guard are not included in defendants' restitution fees, according to HuffPost reporter Ryan J. Reilly.
Tumblr media
The judge ordered the US Attorney's Office to include an explanation for why costs covering the National Guard's reimbursement are not included in Croy's restitution fees in an upcoming sentencing memo.
Monday wasn't the first time Howell expressed concern that Capitol riot defendants may be receiving light punishments. During a July hearing, Howell once again pressed the Justice Department, questioning the department's decision to offer nonviolent Capitol rioters misdemeanor pleas.
"Does the government have any concern … of the defendant joining a mob, breaking into the Capitol building" in the future, and "terrorizing members of Congress, the vice president, who had to be evacuated," Howell asked prosecutors, according to CNN.
"This could be a circumstance that arises every four years," she said.
Open a RICO case against all of the big organizers of the rally, you know, people like Alex Jones, Steve Bannon and Roger Stone.
Fun Fact: Roger Stone's PAC launched a "Stop the Steal" website back in 2016.
From CNN:
Stone's political action committee launched a "Stop the Steal" website in 2016 to fundraise ahead of that election, asking for $10,000 donations by saying, "If this election is close, THEY WILL STEAL IT"
Maybe we should all be asking ourselves if this was always the plan, to destroy our voting processes and gaslight us throughout the entire process...

Washington, DC
Do you think we’re seeing the start of a civil war today?  Armed Trump supporters have literally stormed the US Capitol building.  The police all but stepped out of their way, they LET them in, no tear gas, no rubber bullets, no tazers or truncheons, nothing.
The president ordered his people to storm the capitol to stop them from certifying the election.  How is this not a coup?  How is this no sedition?  What legal defense do any of these people have?
The irony is not lost on people; everyone knows that if these were black protesters, they would all be shot and killed, no questions asked, but because they are white and working on behalf of the president the police are suddenly trying to deescalate things.  How is this not a felony?  How is storming the capitol and threatening the lives of congress okay?  I know for a fact that not a single person will be charged with anything substantive.  Trump will deny responsibility, deny wrongdoing, but still pardon himself anyway even though he claims he did nothing wrong so that Biden couldn’t press charges against him.
Imagine for a second if we were hearing this news from any other national capitol in the world.  Imagine if right-wing rioters in Brazil stormed the parliament at the behest of an outgoing Bolsonaro, and that Brasilia police were doing nothing to stop them.  This would be a turning point in Brazilian history, the start of a new political era, history books would have an entire chapter dedicated to this.  There’s no other name for it than the start of a revolution, or the culmination of one a few years in the making.
Imagine if pro-Russian rioters in Ukraine stormed Kiev for Putin.  Imagine if Boris Johnson lost the majority to the Labour Party and ordered his stooges to storm the Palace of Westminster.
The National Guard has already been called in, I wouldn’t put it past Trump to declare martial law in DC, conveniently turning the media’s attention away from his electoral loss and the Georgia senate races.  What happens when Congress doesn’t reconvene to continue with the certification process?  By law, if neither candidate has been certified by January 20th, then the Speaker of the House becomes acting President, but do you think Trump is gonna just let Nancy Pelosi take over?  He’s doing this to stop Biden, you now for a fact that he’s going to go after Pelosi before that can happen.
I seriously do not see how this can end without widespread unrest.  Trump is playing both sides, egging on his base to continue the riots, but calling for the DC police and National Guard to take control.  Congress is in recess because of this, the constitution is in crisis, the transition is halted.  We’re watching a last ditch effort power grab play out in real time.  They’ve already evacuated Pence and Grassley, the first and third in line for the presidency behind Trump.  No word on Pelosi though, the second in line.  How convenient for Trump...
I am scared.  I was feeling optimistic this morning for the results in Georgia, and now I’m scared for the future of out country.  Republicans in the House and Senate were in the middle of an attempt to subvert our democracy, and the president’s goons may have been the Hail Mary they were looking for.  No Republicans are going to disavow the rioters, they’re not going to blame Trump and his rhetoric for harming American democracy because to them nothing of value has been lost.  To them, the rioters are on their side, they have the same goal in mind, keeping Donald Trump in power after January 20th.  Pence and Grassley and McConnell and Cruz and the rest of the filth are in a better position now than they were this morning, this is working in their favor.
What do we even do when federal police do nothing to stop a putsch?  What do we do when Pence and Grassley and McConnell refuse to reconvene the Senate and continue the constitutionally mandated certification?  What do we do when Trump refuses to leave office because of the state of emergency he himself created?  The feds have shown they have no intention of stopping it from happening, so it’s not like we can just say “oh, but the law says...”  Because the law doesn’t mean anything anymore!  He has just shown that he can break it and the SS will follow his orders, let his people run amok, throw democracy under the bus for the Fuhrer.
The constitution says that on January 20th, 2021 at 12 o’clock noon, Donald Trump is no longer president.  But who’s gonna enforce that?  How CAN enforce that?  It’s up to the military now to decide who to back; they either continue supporting Trump and give him the dictatorship he so desires, or they support Pelosi if Biden still hasn’t been certified the winner.  The DC police and the National Guard have just let MAGAts destroy federal property and endanger the lives of elected officials, I don’t think they’re gonna look at Trump and say “hey, you can’t do that!”
This is going to be big.
This is going to be remembered.
This is Lexington and Concord.  This is Fort Sumter.  This is the Lusitania and the Zimmerman Telegram.  This is Pearl Harbor.
This is the start of something very, very, very bad.

DoJ seizes pro-BLM coronavirus masks
Tumblr media
The Movement for Black Lives had tens of thousands of dollars' worth of coronavirus masks printed for protesters to wear, but these keep getting seized by cops in the mail.
https://www.huffpost.com/entry/black-lives-matter-coronavirus-protest-masks_n_5ed9a69bc5b68bc1a40159b9
Four shipments - from Oakland to NYC, DC, Minneapolis and St Louis - were seized, and M4BL has been instructed to "contact the U.S. Postal Inspection Service for further information."
The masks were produced by Movement Ink's Rene Quinonez, who said, "This isn't a weapon. It's more about safety. We’re trying to figure out how to keep our community safe."
The CDC - which, under Trump's direction, has put in one of the worst public health responses on the planet - advises protesters to wear masks and has warned that protests could be "seeding events" for covid outbreaks.
Here's a statement from The Movement for Black Lives's Chelsea Fuller: "Police have rioted coast to coast, beating and gassing protesters who have called for an end to police violence, with the explicit approval of President Trump.
"Now, it appears they want to ensure that people who protest are susceptible to the same deadly pandemic that they have failed miserably at stopping. The continued surveillance and disruption of social movements under this administration is as chilling as it is dangerous. It should be roundly condemned."

The outlet interviewed Sicknick’s brother, who said that “Sicknick had texted [the family] Wednesday night to say that while he had been pepper-sprayed, he was in good spirits.” That obviously conflicted with the Times’ story that the mob “overpowered Sicknick” and “struck him in the head with a fire extinguisher,” after which, “with a bloody gash in his head, Mr. Sicknick was rushed to the hospital and placed on life support.”
But no matter. The fire extinguisher story was now a matter of lore. Nobody could question it. And nobody did: until after a February 2 CNN article that asked why nobody has been arrested for what clearly was the most serious crime committed that day: the brutal murder of Officer Sicknick with a fire extinguisher. Though the headline gave no hint of this, the middle of the article provided evidence which essentially declared the original New York Times story false:
In Sicknick's case, it's still not known publicly what caused him to collapse the night of the insurrection. Findings from a medical examiner's review have not yet been released and authorities have not made any announcements about that ongoing process.
According to one law enforcement official, medical examiners did not find signs that the officer sustained any blunt force trauma, so investigators believe that early reports that he was fatally struck by a fire extinguisher are not true.
The CNN story speculates that perhaps Sicknick inhaled “bear spray,” but like the ProPublica interview with his brother who said he inhaled pepper spray, does not say whether it came from the police or protesters. It is also just a theory. CNN noted that investigators are “vexed by a lack of evidence that could prove someone caused his death as he defended the Capitol during last month's insurrection.” Beyond that, “to date, little information has been shared publicly about the circumstances of the death of the 13-year veteran of the police force, including any findings from an autopsy that was conducted by DC's medical examiner.”...
It took on such importance for a clear reason: Sicknick’s death was the only example the media had of the pro-Trump mob deliberately killing anyone. In a January 11 article detailing the five people who died on the day of the Capitol protest, the New York Times again told the Sicknick story: “Law enforcement officials said he had been ‘physically engaging with protesters’ and was struck in the head with a fire extinguisher.”
But none of the other four deaths were at the hands of the protesters: the only other person killed with deliberate violence was a pro-Trump protester, Ashli Babbitt, unarmed when shot in the neck by a police officer at close range. The other three deaths were all pro-Trump protesters: Kevin Greeson, who died of a heart attack outside the Capitol; Benjamin Philips, 50, “the founder of a pro-Trump website called Trumparoo,” who died of a stroke that day; and Rosanne Boyland, a fanatical Trump supporter whom the Times says was inadvertently “killed in a crush of fellow rioters during their attempt to fight through a police line.”
This is why the fire extinguisher story became so vital to those intent on depicting these events in the most violent and menacing light possible. Without Sicknick having his skull bashed in with a fire extinguisher, there were no deaths that day that could be attributed to deliberate violence by pro-Trump protesters. Three weeks later, The Washington Post said dozens of officers (a total of 140) had various degrees of injuries, but none reported as life-threatening, and at least two police officers committed suicide after the riot. So Sicknick was the only person killed who was not a pro-Trump protester, and the only one deliberately killed by the mob itself.
every time the cops kill people in protests, they always make sure to pull in every instance they can of cops being hurt, and then suppress the detailed reports so that we can’t see they included cops who stubbed their thumb the same day as injuries. they lie about everything, and the media eats their claims up breathlessly and the politicians appropriate more funding and pass more restrictive laws for them. police are always going to be the most dangerous people around and the primary threat to anybody who isn’t one of them.
