Hey Onyx!
5, 12, 16, 18, 30, 50, 75, 79
5. Do you see your parents in your appearance or behaviour? Are they favourable traits?
My parents are both pretty tall, which i definitely inherited, and see as a favourable trait. I have my dads hair, i think. Very thick, which is nice. Need to get a haircut actually... Behavior wise, I wouldn't say I inherited anything, more like. how my parents raised me definitely influenced my behavior significantly. Wouldn't say that was all favourable tho.
12. What's your most controversial opinion? Would you state it publicly? What's the most controversial opinion that you would publicly support, if it's different?
Uhh... I'm very liberal, or, like, socialist, so I suppose those kinds of views would be the most controversial, though that's mainly cause of where I live, but I don't think that's really what the question's asking. Can't think of anything else though?
16. What's the worst decision you've ever made? What's the best decision you've ever made?
When I moved to New Jersey to live with my best friend I had known for a decade (all online) and then he kicked me out like 6 months later cause he cheated on his gf with a mutual friend and I didn't wanna stop being friends with them. Best decision...? Hm... I dunno?
18. You're offered a one-way ticket to any place and time in history you want. You cannot return. You can't exist at the same time as your current self. You won't carry any diseases, nor will you be infected by others, you have enough money to survive (if relevant). You can speak the local language(s). You still look like yourself and have all your memories. Do you take this offer? Why or why not? Where do you go? What do you do? Does your answer change depending on whether you can alter the future or not?
God this is a tough one. Assuming I can't exist at the same time as my current self means I would have to go back far enough to live a full life before my birthday, I would miss a lot of technology, tho I could probably go back to, like, the 20? and be okay? I'd still have electricity, at least. But that's not exactly a great time to be alive either. I might as well go full tilt and go, like, Roman? Oh! I could go to Babylonia? For the library, maybe. I really have no idea where I'd go if I could change things. I feel like I'd have to figure out where I could do the most good.
30. If you don't have tattoos, and had to get one, what would you get tattooed on you? Is getting tattooed a big deal to you? If you are tattooed, do you regret any?
I do not. I don't really Want one, but im not against them or anything. If I do get one it's probably gonna be something like a geometric shape with outer space inside it.
50. What qualities do you find charming?
The usual, I guess? Passion, humor, being unafraid to put yourself out there and tell people what you want, or how you feel.
75. What is your favourite fairytale?
Hmm, maybe King Midus? I remember reading that one in school and liking it.
79. What stupid thing are you really insecure about?
There are some things your parents teach you as a kid that I never learned.

Mountain Tosser - CR14 Humanoid
Regular boulder tossing is lame.
Tumblr media
Artwork from Mobius Final Fantasy, copyright Square Enix.  They don’t seem to want to tell anyone which artists made which images for their game.
Giants tossing boulders is a classic aspect of their fighting style across many editions of D&D.  Unfortunately, in Pathfinder, with how many potential other ways you can increase your damage with ranged attacks, the most meaningful difference between tossing boulders and using a longbow - or even a sling - is the difficulty of carrying ammo.  The extra damage from the big rocks just isn’t that interesting.
So I created this NPC as a hill giant monk who uses his ki to launch boulders at its enemies in much more interesting ways, which players can actually interact with.  Having a round or two to destroy an incoming projectile before it hits you is a mechanic that I’m pretty fond of.  The hardness makes it a little tough, but the low AC helps.
I also just find the idea of a giant monk really interesting.  Giants are often depicted as being primitive stupid barbarians, especially the lower-tier ones like hill giants.  But even if they haven’t mastered ship-building or indoor plumbing, there’s nothing stopping from from mastering their own bodies and using the powers of the elements.  The fact that my image of high level monks comes from Dragon Ball Z is probably showing through in the flavor description.
Conceptually, this NPC is a monk, but obviously it doesn’t actually have any class levels.  You can tell your players it’s a unique monk archetype, if you want.  I mean, I guess that’s not technically a lie.  It’s just an archetype that I only bothered to define at level 7 and that’s only available to hill giants.
Mountain Tosser - CR 14
The perfected specimen of hill giant towering in front of you lifts his head and starts to scream, and as he does so, an aura of pure energy cracks the ground around him, and the soil beneath his feat is blasted away, forming a small crater.  Pebbles lift into the air around him, supported by his immense ki.  They don’t fall to the ground until he stops screaming.

SPECIAL ABILITIES
Ki Pool (Su) A mountain tosser has a ki pool with 8 points of ki power.  These are used to fuel several of its abilities.
Flurry of Blows (Ex) A mountain tosser can perform one extra attack at its full base attack bonus when making a full-attack action with unarmed strikes.  By spending a point from its ki pool, it can make an additional extra attack at its full base attack bonus.
Rising Boulder (Ex) In place of an attack, when on the ground, a mountain tosser can punch or stomp on the ground, causing a boulder to rise out of the ground from a square it can reach.  The boulder rises up to a height of 20 feet, remaining there for up to 7 rounds before falling.  The mountain tosser can dismiss this effect on a specific boulder as a free action, causing it to fall to the ground.
A rising boulder is a tiny-sized object with hardness 5 and 20 hit points.  It has an AC of 13, benefiting from the mountain tosser’s monk AC bonus.  Unlike a normal object, it takes full damage from ranged weapons and energy attacks.  It takes 150% damage from bludgeoning damage.  Any attempt to move it (such as with a reposition or bull rush combat maneuver, or a spell such as telekinesis) is rolled as if trying to move the mountain tosser, using the mountain tosser’s CMD and saving throws.
If the mountain tosser is unconscious or helpless, all rising boulders it is levitating immediately fall to the ground.  A rising boulder which falls on a creature deals 2d6 points of bludgeoning damage (DC 15 Reflex halves).
Leaping Boulder Strike (Ex) As a full-round action, by spending a point from its ki pool, a mountain tosser can leap up into the air (making an acrobatics check to jump as normal), hover in mid-air for a few seconds, and toss any rising boulders within its reach at foes, as thrown weapons.  A mountain tosser must jump to a height of 10 feet in order to reach rising boulders that are hovering 20 feet in the air, requiring an acrobatics DC of 40.
After jumping, it makes up to four ranged attacks with +18 to hit, with a 120 foot range increment, throwing a rising boulder as ammunition for each attack.  It does not take a penalty on iterative attacks when attacking in this way.  A mountain tosser can only throw rising boulders that it is levitating itself; it cannot throw boulders being levitated by another mountain tosser.
On a successful hit, each rising boulder that is tossed in this way deals 2d6+18 damage.  This damage is reduced by 1 for every point of damage that the rising boulder has taken before being thrown.  A rising boulder that is below half HP has the broken condition, and so attacks with that boulder also take the -2 penalty to attack and damage rolls typical for broken weapons.
A mountain tosser takes no falling damage from falling back to the ground at the end of a leaping boulder strike.
AC Bonus (Ex) While unarmored and unencumbered, a mountain tosser gains a bonus to AC and CMD equal to 1 plus its wisdom bonus.  Any rising boulders being levitated by the mountain tosser also gain this AC bonus.
Fast Movement (Ex) While unarmored and unencumbered, a mountain tosser’s base movement speed is 20 feet faster than a typical hill giant.  This is an enhancement bonus.
High Jump (Su) A mountain tosser gains a +7 bonus to acrobatics checks made to jump, and is always considered to have a running start when jumping.  By spending a swift action, it can use 1 point from its ki pool to gain an additional +20 bonus on acrobatics checks made to jump.
Empowered Strikes (Su) A mountain tosser’s unarmed strikes and thrown boulders count as magical, silver, and cold iron for the purposes of overcoming damage reduction.

Be Aware : How To Clarify Delta 8 Gummies To Your Grandparents
Tumblr media
What Are the consequences of Delta-eight THC on Different Customers? Here on the Stoner Mom, we’re going to start talking about these minor cannabinoids as they turn out to be more available in the marketplace. Delta 9 is the widespread compound that produces a high and leads to euphoria and symptom relief, and is what people are usually referring to when talking about THC. As you probably know, THC is the lively compound in marijuana that provides you the euphoric “high” associated with marijuana. It’s price noting that delta 8 hasn’t been extensively studied yet, and extra research is required to determine its effects on the physique and thoughts. Meet Binoid: Delta 8 THC and so far more. If you may meet the Social Fairness standards (as a person from a disadvantaged region), your utility price could be solely $2,500, and the cost of a two-12 months license would be $30,000.
Tumblr media
If the application is authorized, the price for an Grownup Use Dispensing Group License is $60,000 for a interval of two years. With regard to acquiring a license to manufacture or sell cannabis merchandise, a typical applicant would have to pay a non-refundable application charge of $5,000. You don’t need to pay full price, either. In reality for that value, you’ll probably end up with junk. If done appropriately, the tip product ought to in principle have the same security profile of Delta-9-THC. The end result's Delta-8-THC. Whereas the chemical Delta-8-THC itself seems to have relatively the same safety profile as Delta-9-THC, it unfortunately doesn't mean much to customers. Delta-9-THC is thought to preserve current acetylcholine levels within the brain, with studies suggesting that marijuana could play a job in Alzheimer’s treatment by slowing the disease’s development. Studies have proven it highly effective for folks suffering with anxiety, depression and different mental illnesses. It’s necessary to notice that in depth studies have not been carried out on Delta-8, and much more research is needed so as to determine the consequences it will possibly have on the human physique and mind.
So, even if you’re desperate to strive delta-8, it's essential assessment your state’s hemp laws. There are no occurrences of the overdosing on this with damaging effects, durable antagonistic results, nevertheless it's still in its infancy (delta 8 thc indiana). delta 8 gummies review did not handle delta-eight THC levels, which opened up suppliers to sell it as edibles, vape cartridges and tinctures, with no oversight - delta 8 thc indiana. Tinctures, alternatively, are extra flexible for altering a specific dosage to your preference. Very similar to CBD, the cannabinoid is often discovered within the form of tinctures, capsules, gummies, and vape liquids. Smoking: As mentioned, you can smoke delta 8 like an everyday joint with CBD flower that has been enhanced with delta 8 focus. Additionally, there's CBD flower obtainable with added D8 which you could vape or smoke. All of Uplift’s extracts undergo impartial, third-party lab testing, so our prospects get to get pleasure from the advantages of this very numerous plant with out the risk of contaminates, pesticides or THC. Furthermore, for those seeking a few of the advantages of MMJ, the excessive itself could possibly be thought of a aspect impact.

'We may be strangers, but we could still get to know each other?
dir: Andrew Haigh
2023
A boy loses his parents when he is too young. It arrests his emotional development in shocking ways, gives him a wound he never recovers from.
He may grow up eternally aching for their approval, which he can never get, because they’re dead, so he punishes himself (by keeping himself isolated), punishes others (by pushing them away) in order to somehow make up for that profound lack in his life. It’s a self-made, self-sustaining hook that he cannot let himself get off from.
But enough about every version of Batman that’s ever been made.
All of Us Strangers follows the story of a man called Adam (Andrew Scott) navigating (or not) his way through life, hoping for benediction or a blessing where none is forthcoming. He lives alone in an apartment in a sparsely occupied tower. It might be a new construction, because there’s only one other chap living there on a different floor, apparently.
That guy, Harry (Paul Mescal), tries to connect with Adam, but he’s drunk, and Adam’s not taking visitors. Adam is shy and retiring, and retreats at all times.
He retreats so much that he travels back to the place where he grew up, somewhere south of London. He wanders around old haunts, even to an area that kinda looks like a beat, have to say. And a certain distance away, he spies a smiling, mustachioed man, who seems to know him, or at least like him.
Adam follows him and ends up at his childhood home. It looks exactly the same as the photo he carries of the place. Even has the family car in the same spot, and his little bike.
Mum and Dad are home, looking younger than ever (Claire Foy and Jamie Bell), and welcome him in for a chat. He is astounded to see them, as one would expect, since his parents died in a car crash when Adam was 12, and he’s in his late forties now. He’s older than his parents, somehow.
Given a gift like this by the universe, why would you question it. He takes the opportunity to speak to his parents a little bit about the present, but mostly about the past, the long ago past, the past before he lost them.
Losing them at that age; he missed the opportunity to come out to them as gay, and that’s one of the many things which he feels the profound absence of in his life. And getting to see them now means he has the chance to do it. And he does so, but these people, these beings, they are not his parents of now, of today. They are who they were back in the 1980s, which, let’s not split hairs here, that was forty years ago. Calling it a tumultuous time does it a disservice. Calling it a complex time for LGBTIQ+ people in Britain probably doesn’t do it justice either.
My recollections of the era are particularly irrelevant, since I didn’t grow up there, and I am not a part of that community other than as an ally, I hope, but I do remember the music, as does Adam, as does director Andrew Haigh. I remember the growing understanding of more and more people coming out loud and proud at a time when attacks on them were increasing as well, even as the music many members of this community were making was top of the charts, the radio and the tv shows that played their film clips.
So, for me, there being a lot of Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Bronski Beat, Erasure or Pet Shop Boys just means “oh okay those are a lot of 80s tunes I recognise”, but for the character of Adam, and the director, there’s that deeper connection that these tunes must have represented, the lifeline they provided for someone who was struggling.
It’s not a coincidence that the home Adam travels back to is not only the character’s childhood home, but the director’s, as well.
When he comes out to his mum, well, she’s still entrenched in the stereotypes and clichés that were around back in that day: she’s worried that he’ll grow up lonely and sad, or, worse yet, that he’ll succumb to that dreadful disease she’s started hearing about. She’s embarrassed, shocked, unable to make eye contact, evasive and not really the accepting mother that popular culture has led us to expect.
Dad seems to be more understanding, or at least accepting. He’s practical. Just have another smoke. I guess it’s not a coincidence that while Dad probably looks like a contemporary South London bloke from the era, he doesn’t look a million miles away from being a dapper gay gent himself.
And I don’t think it’s a coincidence that Harry, Adam’s potential love interest, and Dad look more alike than Adam and his dad.
No, the bigger conflict between Adam and his dad, who claims he always knew he was gay because Adam could never play sport for shit, is that his dear old Dad must have heard Adam crying in his room, after being bullied at school, but never went in to console him, never asked what had happened, never trying to make things better.
Dear old Dad asks something like “well, why didn’t you ever tell me?”
It’s a devastating admission that Adam makes saying he never explicitly told his father what happened, fearing that his father wouldn’t understand, only to have his dad admit “yeah, if you’d told me I’d probably have bullied you too.” It’s…a gut punch amidst all this catharsis.
We ask ourselves – are these just creations of his mind? Are they the spirits of his parents? Are they saying what he would have wanted them to say back then, or what he would need to hear from them now? Or has he somehow travelled to the past? Is this just another manifestation of his inability to make peace with losing his parents, or is it an attempt to finally grow with it, to let some catharsis take place, to allow himself to let go of some unanswerable questions he had, with answers that either shock him out of complacency, or comfort him in ways he’s needed for over 30 years? Or are they just his parents, in whatever form, wishing him well, slightly confused by what they’re doing here, held up from some eternal reward?
The only meaningful answer to such questions is, maybe?
There are elements of his relationship with his parents that he gets to explore that help with his relationship with Harry, and vice versa, but none of this is neat or formulaic. There are no pat answers for Adam, and nothing really transpires in a way that’s tidy. In outings or during moments with Harry, there is fear, terror, confusion, and it’s not just because of the drugs. Some moments spent within the safe space of a club give way to further confusion about who or what is real or meaningful, and I don’t think any of it is meant to be that simple a journey.
Andrew Scott is an accomplished actor of long standing, adored by those who know him, and “oh yeah, that guy who was Moriarty in Sherlock or the Hot Priest in Fleabag” occasionally recognised by others. One of his best roles, for my money, was in a wonderful flick set during the 80s about some chaps who wanted to support Welsh miners during the strikes (boo hiss Thatcher) called Pride. Just guess what else it was about.
Here he brings a deep woundedness to the character of Adam, and a lot of it comes through from what he doesn’t do more than what he does. I wouldn’t call it a restrained performance because it’s less about restraint than it is about embodying a character who in a lot of ways knows he hasn’t allowed himself to grow emotionally, and the very valid reasons for that, but one who wishes so deeply for a chance to feel again, without fear of rejection or loss.
So many great moments from the four performers here, but they’re not showy speeches. There are moments where someone says quietly something like always feeling like a stranger in one’s own family, or wanting to go out into the world together, now, finally. They feel natural and not overwritten, and are delivered as such. Tiny steps.
Some might argue that one relationship, the one with the parents, is more important or better realised than the other, being the complexities of Adam being with Harry, but I would argue both are balanced, and treated with as much sensitivity or importance as necessary. In some ways, being less fraught but still complicated, the burgeoning relationship with Harry allows Adam to be in some ways more honest with his parents, and in other ways less.
And yet. Sometimes there are no happy endings, just the chance to feel something, even if it’s just safe, or even if it’s just love, it’s not an insignificant thing; in fact it could be everything. I imagine the ending of this flick will divide audiences a lot, at least those lucky few that got to see it, hopefully in theatres.
There are plenty of levels upon which I can respect but not relate to some themes in the film, but as someone who’s lost both his parents, there are elements I can deeply relate to, almost against my will.
It’s a hard flick to recommend, though. I can imagine plenty of people I know being completely indifferent to it, and others being utterly wrecked by All of Us Strangers.
8 reasons there are no happy mediums out of 10

Assassin's Creed Locations Ranked Part 4
After a bit of a hiatus so I could work on my book and write movie reviews, we're back with part 4 of my list ranking every playable location in the Assassin's Creed series. As a refresher, a playable location is an area you can freely traverse and explore for secrets and missions, so places like Portugal in Rogue and the hidden tombs in II don't count. This entry covers some great historical and mythological locations that didn't quiiiiite make the top ten. We'll cover the top ten next time, so stay tuned to see which of those ten ended up where, and to get incredibly angry at me when your favorite isn't where you wanted it to be. Fun times! Here are the links to the previous three parts. Now, let's get moving. Part 3: https://ryanmeft.tumblr.com/post/731083916756336640/assassins-creed-locations-ranked-part-3
Part 2
Part 1

Tumblr media
Atlantis (Odyssey: The Fate of Atlantis)
Odyssey’s Fate of Atlantis DLC had three chapters in three different places from Greek myth, but ever since our first tantalizing glimpse in a sidequest, visiting the fabled city itself was the big draw. It didn’t disappoint. Not only was the self-contained story pretty good, but Atlantis was successfully brought back closer to Plato’s description of concentric circles and military culture. There were both towering spires and underground secrets, and intrepid explorers could even carry themselves out from the artificial metro area to the more natural borders of the land. Atlantis promised a lot, and delivered on it.
14
Tumblr media
Rome (Brotherhood)
A lot of people were probably kind of puzzled at the fact that, aside from a brief mission at the Vatican, we never visited Rome itself during Assassin’s Creed II. If you happen to also be my particular kind of crazy, you may know that the Renaissance was driven by the other cities in Italy, while any part of Rome not directly under church control had long since degenerated into a disease-ridden backwater virtually irrelevant to world progress. Brotherhood captures exactly that. This Rome is a dim shadow of the capitol of the ancient Empire, consisting almost entirely of wasted ruins of once-great temples, shabby houses, and pushy merchants hawking their wares. It’s not without some remnants of grandeur, but it evokes more sadness for a lost era than anything else. And naturally, the hidden tombs are still the highlights.
13
Tumblr media
Elysium (Odyssey: The Fate of Atlantis)
The first of three areas you’ll visit in this episodic DLC, Elysium is, like Aaru, an idealized, paradisaical version of ancient Greece, with flowing fields of flowers uninterrupted by man and sparkling, wide rivers circling around the feet of towering clifftop cities where gods and accomplished mortals drink and feast in idyllic surroundings. Ok, I may be exaggerating that last bit, as the game doesn’t render the inhabitants of paradise in any real way---no Piece of Eden-induced apparitions of Hercules or Odysseus will be found here. Elysium so thoroughly evokes heavenly bliss, though, that it’s not hard to let your imagination fill in the blanks. In some ways, it’s even better than the normal Greece of the main game, because it’s contained enough that it never outstays its welcome.
12
Tumblr media
Paris (Unity)
Due to being borderline unplayable at launch, Unity remains a divisive entry in the series, but there’s one thing practically everyone can agree on: revolutionary Paris is jumpin’, man. Moving up a generation, Ubisoft Montreal took full advantage of the extra horsepower to massively increase crowd sizes and behaviors, the scope of the environment, and to render famous landmarks in exquisite detail. Paris is a place where the revered meets the depraved, from the towering spires of Notre Dame to seedy-but-lively cafes to grisly murders in dark alleys, all set to the backdrop of a violent revolution. The great accomplishment of Unity’s Paris is that the city is an ancient place with a life apart from the famous events of the late 18th century.

11
Ireland (Valhalla: Wrath of the Druids)
Much like how it is an extreme disappointment to see the fertile history of China’s Warring States Period relegated to a B-list mobile game, it was also a bit of a sting when we realized the only Ireland we were likely to get from the series was this DLC. Still, the Emerald Isle got a better shake than China likely will. Mechanically, there’s no differences in exploration or traversal, but the famously greener pastures, the shadowed, rocky paths that feature in so much Irish folklore, and the renowned passage tombs successfully make it feel like you’re in a new place. The story is even interesting, which is quite frankly more than you can say for most of the open world game DLCs. Still, if we never return to Erin for the more dramatic later periods in its history, it’ll be a shame.
And that's it for this entry! Come back next time to see which games shook out where in the top ten, and remember to please share my blogs if you like them.

4. Who's the most important person in your life right now? Why?
This is hard mostly bc I don't have a lot of people in my life and the people most would think should be the most important aren't. That being said, I think my coworker/friend that I've known for 10 yrs. She's kind of like a second mom to me. She's always supportive and never puts me down bc of my interests and such. But I'm starting to feel like a different coworker of mine is super important to me even tho i try not to get attached to people.
12. What's your most controversial opinion? Would you state it publicly? What's the most controversial opinion that you would publicly support, if it's different?
I'd have to say my opinion on self-diagnosis. In one way it may be helpful, given that you see a professional dr about whatever it is you think you have, but it's also extremely dangerous and I feel like it's becoming more and more of a trend, especially with Gen Z. It's almost as if they *want* something to be wrong with them. And sometimes what you think you have is actually something else with similar symptoms. But the differences in treatments are vastly different and taking any form of med unprescribed is extremely dangerous. Same with vitamins, minerals, ect that aren't FDA approved. I'm not 100% aganist it but I don't think you should go around saying you have x,y, or z without a proper diagnosis.
This is gonna sound super super dumb, but I'd like to go back to the 2010s simply to see the movies in theaters I didn't get to in this 'timeline'. I don't think i'd go any farther than that. The past hasn't been kind to people like me so I don't think i'd be safe anytime before the 2010s (and technically I'm still not 100% safe now)
30. If you don't have tattoos, and had to get one, what would you get tattooed on you? Is getting tattooed a big deal to you? If you are tattooed, do you regret any?
oh hell yeah I want a tattoo!! As long as everything is sterilized and new, I'd do it now if I had the money. I'm not scared of needles and I have a pretty high pain tolerance. I'd get all sorts, but my main ones I want is 'stay' in morse code on my arm and a light disc on my back (like in tron and tron: legacy)
86. What could you talk about for hours?
I could talk about films and symbolism for a long ass time. I had an assignment in my multi-media class where I had to create a podcast and that's exactly what I talked about. It was on the characters of Black Panther and what the symbolized metaphorically and literally. I lokwey feel bad for my pro. cause I probably talked really fast (something i do when i get excited) but he gave me a 9/10 and said he found it intriguing.

3. Packing Advice If you intend to pack gifts, there are certain crucial details you should be aware of regarding what should go in your carry-on and where in your luggage. For their loved ones during this time of year, some eager travelers prepare handmade treats like cakes, pies, jams, and even gravy! Here are some suggestions to help you pack correctly so you can pass through the TSA queue smoothly and without mishaps.
You can probably pack baked items like cakes, pies, breads, and other goodies in your carry-on bag. But if your bag is still tagged for them, don't be shocked. TSA officers must perform their duties and may request that you open your suitcase to make sure that what you’re bringing is safe. As always, liquids are a big “don’t” unless they are the approved 3.4-ounce size. The exception to this rule is that now the CDC allows travelers to pack one 12-ounce bottle of sanitizer in their carry-on bags.

Periodontal Disease - Something You Should Know
Diseases of the gums and bone about the teeth are called "periodontal disease" in English. Gum disease encompasses a wide variety of conditions, most commonly seen are gingivitis and periodontitis. Periodontal disease is a chronic bacterial infection that affects the gums and bone supporting the teeth. The disease may be limited to one tooth, or all the teeth. The disease takes hold when bacterial plaque on the teeth causes the gums to be inflamed. Plaque is the sticky film that forms on your teeth; it is like glue that helps the bacteria to stay on your teeth.   Gingivitis is the mildest form of gum disease and is totally reversible with professional dental cleaning gum grafting durham and good home hygiene. Good home hygiene is not something people know how to do automatically. Most people need to be shown what to do so that they can get the most benefit from their brushing. Even people who brush well can benefit from some coaching. Even the best sports athletes in the world have coaches. The dentist and dental hygienist are tooth brushing coaches.
Gingivitis that is left untreated can advance to periodontitis. This happens when bacterial plaque spreads below the gum line. Toxins in the plaque cause a chronic irritation in the gums and bone starting an immune response. This immune reaction causes the gums and bone to break down and be destroyed. As the bone around the teeth is destroyed, the space between the gums and teeth deepens and the disease progresses even faster with more destruction. The early stages of the disease often have mild symptoms, so many people are unaware of a serious problem developing and do not seek the help of a dentist. Signs of gum disease are:
Bright red, swollen, or tender gums Bleeding gums (gums should not bleed when you brush or floss) Shrinking gums Loose teeth Pus from around the teeth Bad breath that does not go away Change in the position of the teeth   Though the main cause of periodontal disease is bacterial plaque, other factors make it more likely for you to get this disease. First and foremost is tobacco use. Smokers have more gum disease and are more likely to loose teeth. Moreover, they do not respond as well to treatments for gum disease. Smoking is also a risk factor for developing serious oral cancer, as well. Other risk factors for periodontal disease are family history, stress, medications, clenching and grinding, diabetes, poor nutrition, and various systemic diseases. Risk factors that increase the likelihood of getting gum disease have been known for a long time, however, in recent years, gum disease as a risk factor for other medical conditions has become clear. Recent research by Marjorie Jeffcoat, D.M.D., the dean of University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine, has shown that scaling and root planing resulted in an 84 percent reduction in premature births in women who were less than 35 weeks pregnant.
Scaling and root planing is a common gum procedure to clean the teeth above and below the gum line and poses no risk to the mother and unborn child. Premature birth is a significant problem in the United States with nearly 12 percent of the babies being born preterm (before 37 weeks of pregnancy). Preterm birth results in increased death and other long lasting problems for these babies. Before becoming pregnant all women should seek a gum and tooth exam as a way of avoiding this serious complication of pregnancy. For women who are already pregnant when gum disease is detected, scaling and root planing can still help. This treatment should probably be carried out in the second trimester.   Treatment for gum disease comprises many different modalities. Most common is scaling and root planing to clean the hard and soft deposits above and below the gum line. At the same time the dentist may use various antimicrobial agents placed in the space between the gums and tooth to help fight the bacteria and improve the healing.
For patients whose periodontitis has altered the gums and bone too much, various surgical therapies are often applied. Depending on the nature of the disease, new bone and gums may be grafted in localized sites to improve the condition. For patients whose tooth supporting bone loss is so great that they loose a tooth, dental implants may be an option to replace what they have lost.  Some treatments for the gums focus on cosmetics. These procedures are often called oral plastic surgery. Patients with a gummy smile (a display of too much gum when they smile) can be helped by reshaping the gums. Patients with an irregular line of gums, or with gum recession on individual teeth can be helped with various techniques to restore missing gum tissue. This often has not only a cosmetic benefit but, also helps to cover exposed root surfaces which are painfully sensitive to foods and cold liquids.
