So, here's a mini fic idea that keeps knocking around my head:
Cal's with Prauf in the cantina after a long shift. The place is packed out, the crowds loud as they watch podracing and cheer on various racers. Bookies rush around taking bets and fistfuls of credits. The more some people lose, the more they drink.
Prauf is very much not letting a thirteen-year-old drink anything alcoholic and instead gets Cal something sweet and fizzy. Cal finds Prauf's protective nature both funny and unnecessary because he's not exactly begging for a cocktail. Nevertheless, he endures Prauf's lectures on how plenty of people will prey on him if he were to get drunk here instead of safe and sound at home, so he's not drinking in a cantina until he's at least a thirty centimeters taller than he is now...
(Height isn't really an indicator of being ready to drink in Humans, but Cal chooses not to point that out and instead nods along at all the right moments.)
The news comes on between races and the crowd's shouts die down. The story features the parents of children taken by the Jedi. They're from all over the galaxy, sobbing into the camera, saying how they gave up their children, thinking it was for the best, but instead they were brainwashed by a cult. Their children are either dead or in hiding, victims of the Jedi's betrayal of the Emperor. The parents hate the Jedi with everything they have in them.
They took our babies.
They said they would be safe!
They trained them to be murderers, and we know that those who were strong enough to say no were slaughtered.
Only the smartest, bravest and luckiest ran away and went into hiding. They're the ones we have to find.
It takes everything Cal has to sit there and not start screaming. The Jedi weren't the traitors. They were betrayed. The Jedi didn't kill their own. That wasn't what happened at all!
And then a quieter part of him wonders are any of these people my birth parents?
The camera cuts to a Human woman. She's clearly on Coruscant, sat on a balcony looking out at the city beyond. The journalist asks her what would she say to any Jedi children hiding in the galaxy, lost and confused about what they should do. The woman says: 'Let the Empire help you. They'll treat you with kindness, help you find your family. You don't need to be afraid. You aren't the ones who did this. We'll protect you.'
Kindness?
Don't be afraid?
Protect them?
Cal thinks about the scrapper he saw being beaten yesterday by a stormtrooper.
He thinks about how their wages have been cut again because the Empire hates the Guild.
Master Tapal told him to trust only in the Force. Even though the Force doesn't respond to his control the way it used to, it still tells him to hide. Don't let anyone know. Don't let anyone see who he truly is.
The Force screams inside him as the news goes on and on.
He can't let it out. He can't let any of it out.
Hide. Hide. Hidehidehidehide
Go to the Empire?
Let them help him?
It's so cruel. So unbelievably sly. Others will fall for it. Others will be slaughtered. Jedi in positions so much worse than his will think this is their chance to find safe haven.
And he can't do anything to help them.
Prauf notices something's wrong, but when he asks, Cal says he's going to head home early and he'll see him in the morning. He walks out, dodges stormtroopers, and goes back to his tiny apartment.
He doesn't sleep at all that night.

hiiii!! 💕 i'm not sure what games you're into but in terms of general recommendations, disco elysium is on sale for like $10 USD right now and that's a fantastic game!! if you're into horror then resident evil 2 + 3 remakes ($10 each) and soma ($6) are on sale. if you like superhero games then as usual there's the arkham collection on sale for around $9. for personal favorites i'd say slime rancher ($5), bugsnax ($10), and spider-man remastered ($45) are all good choices!! there's also a bunch of visual novels on sale but those are pretty subjective so. if u have more specific wants i can probably help more but YUP
