Here’s a grainy and icky process gif showing how much I struggled with getting the right look. I knew from the beginning I wanted blueish light and warm shadows in a late afternoon ish setting, but I didn’t know how to light it, so at the beginning stages you can see it looked more like noon daylight instead. I also had some trouble building his face and ended up changing his hair color for a better composition since the darkness of his clothes and the shadows of everything else would have made black hair overwhelming in this particular piece. Going to try to keep track of my art with snaps of stages as a part of my learning process now. Other than the first fourish frames the rest were taken about a day apart, give or take~

Hi guys! It has been about a month since Furistas Cat Cafe has launched globally, and we want to say a big thank you all for playing our game. :)
Ever since the project started, we were itching to share all the bits and bobs about Furistas. It's so nice being able to talk about it openly now! Cannot wait to share more of behind the scenes stuff on this blog again!
Here's our very first concept art we made to share the vision within the production team.
This piece helped us figure out the art direction of the game, feel of the game, and maybe a little bit of game play style.
We really wanted to focus on the warm and wholesome feeling. We tried to imagine what kind of cafe do we want to be in to relax, and what kind of quirky things can we put in for a little fun...
Of course, everyone has different ideas of what’s relaxing or what’s cool, so this is like our base atmosphere we aimed for. Slowly but surely we will be adding more contents to the game, which will give options to players how they want to design their cafe. :)
The only thing that probably changed from this art to final production would be art rendering style of everything, haha. But that is another story to share for another day!
Next time we’d like to show you how we designed our kitties in the game! See you then, and enjoy our game as much as we do ❤ /ᐠ。ꞈ。ᐟ\ - Lilian

Return to Charlotte. Charlotte Salomon was born in 1917 in Berlin. She was a prolific painter who unfortunately died in Auschwitz with her unborn child. She was an incredibly intelligent, courageous, and sensitive woman. Her biographical gouache paintings often brought wit, humour, grief and derision in one paint stroke. Perhaps, it's because of her complex personality and work that I always go back to her paintings and especially her self portrait in 1940, just three years before her death, a time when she did not know when she would be taken. In this self portrait, she portrays herself with highly pigmented skin, perhaps denoting how she was thought of as a stranger in her own land, a well groomed hairstyle showing her pride, and a look that always gets me. Her look says I'm afraid but I'm also brave. She looks at you and you might see a smirk or even a look of defiance. Thank you, Charlotte. Her self portrait is also made with #gouache and was painted on cardboard. I tried to recreate the original colours as much as possible but still wasn't as successful. My past Charlottes (story) always look much younger than she was at the time, so I will probably go back to her in the future until I capture that look. . . . . . . . . . #learningtodraw #learningprocess #drawingoftheday #drawing #gouache #painting #gouachepainting #charlottesalomon #instaart #instaartoftheday #gif #artgif #processgif #instadaily #drawingpractice https://www.instagram.com/p/ButKA5clVHk/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1axm8qczdkqdq
