Abigail Williams is not the villain, she’s the victim

I’m specifically referring to the one from The Crucible.

Abigail is just a scared child. She was seventeen years old and was sexually abused. She worked for John Proctor. She says it herself “I look for the John Proctor who took me from my sleep and put knowledge into my heart.” He instigated the affair.

He took a weak helpless child and Assaulted her. “It was in the old days, they had different standards 🙄” The Crucible was written in the 50’s, Miller should’ve known better. All he did was make a rape victim (a minor when the rape happened mind you) into the villain. Plus Miller said in ‘why I wrote the crucible’ that he saw himself in Proctor. Ya know, the groomer/pedophile.

I was recently reminded of the crucible. When I read it in school we’d have discussions about the various characters and events and Abby was (and still is) my favorite. There were so many people who hated her though so this post is for her.

I could rant about my darling Abby for hours trust me so if people want a part two put it in the comments or send me a message.

Also Abby or Parris should have been the main character.

Throwback Thursday: John "Jack" W. Topley was hired as Princeton's proctor--i.e., the head of campus security--in 1892, taking over following the retirement of Matthew Goldie. In 1907, he resigned to open a saloon directly across the street from Nassau Hall. Students were delighted; the Dean, not so much. He sold the saloon in 1913. He is shown here ca. 1910s.

Wanna know how my Thanksgiving went?

Apparently, my great grandma is a Proctor. For those of you who are black and have family in the DMV area or live in the DMV area you know who I’m talking about.

So my paternal family was discussing my great grandma(never knew her because I think she died before I was born, either that or she died when I was too young to remember) and my aunt had said that my great grandma was a Proctor.

Now for those of y’all who are in the DMV area, or have family there, you probably already know the rumors about the Proctors. For the people who don’t know, basically the Proctors are a family of lightskinned black folks who are rumores to have been inbreeding to keep their skin lightskinned along with other features.

Though my great grandma being a Proctor makes sense considering,

1. That my paternal side of the family(which is in the DMV area) are extremely lightskinned to white passing.

2. It would explain the odd way of my family’s eyes(basically my paternal side’s eyes turn grey the older they get. My great grandma had grey eyes as well).

Overall, I’m just shocked I’m related to a family with so many rumors.
