Alright animation fans, this is the big test.
On Christmas Day Star Trek Prodigy season 1 will be released on Netflix. This is a new 3D animated young adult animated series that was removed from Paramount+ as a tax write off, and was only saved through an amazing grass roots campaign by fans to be picked up by Netflix so that it’s second season could be aired.
If you like serialized storytelling in kids shows, watch Star Trek Prodigy.
If you like Star Trek, watch Star Trek Prodigy.
If you know absolutely nothing about Star Trek, watch Star Trek Prodigy.
If you like The Owl House, Gravity Falls, Avatar the Last Airbender, or Legend of Korra, watch Star Trek Prodigy.
If you’re angry at studios cancelling animated shows prematurely or treating kids animation like trash, watch Star Trek Prodigy.
If you couldn’t afford a Paramount+ account but have a Netflix account, watch Star Trek Prodigy.
If you like episodic content with a serialized story, watch Star Trek Prodigy.
If you have kids and want them to get into Star Trek but don’t know where to start, watch Star Trek Prodigy.
If you like sci-fi, watch Star Trek Prodigy
If you like colorful characters, gorgeous animation, a serious storyline with lots of character growth and high stakes, watch Star Trek Prodigy.
This show has been neglected by Paramount+ and it’s gotten a rare second chance. The first month a show is released on Netflix is the most crucial time of all because the viewership will determine its fate going forward. A second season has already been finished (it was nearly completed when Paramount cancelled it), but if we want to see more beyond this season we need Netflix to see that we care about it and that their risk in picking up the show is warranted.
Please. Help us save this show. It’s SO GOOD, and it was treated like garbage by Paramount+. Help us stick it to Paramount and show everyone what a great show this actually is. Help us make Paramount regret their decision. Help kids animation continue to thrive and show it’s worth! Help bring in more people into the Star Trek fandom! Help us now! Please!

GOD WAIT. WAIT. DONT TOUCH ME
I JUST REALIZED HOLOGRAM JANEWAY SACRIFICING HERSELF IS A DIRECT PARALLEL TO ADMIRAL JANEWAY FROM VOYAGER DOING THE SAME. FUCK.
IN ENDGAME THE ADMIRAL WAS DRIVEN TO HER BRINK BY HAVING TO WATCH ALL OF HER CLOSEST FRIENDS AND FAMILY DIE. AND SHE BROKE THE TEMPORAL PRIME DIRECTIVE TO TRY AND MAKE SURE SOME VERSION OF HERSELF SOMEWHERE DIDN'T HAVE TO SUFFER THE SAME FATE. AND SACRIFICED HERSELF TO GET THE PRIME TIMELINE VOYAGER OUT OF THE DELTA QUADRANT.
AND HOLOGRAM JANEWAY CHOOSES TO SACRIFICE HERSELF TO SPARE ALL OF STARFLEET. BUT PURPOSEFULLY DOES SO IN A WAY TO GET PRIME JANEWAY BACK INTO THE DELTA QUADRANT. TO ENSURE SHE WON'T HAVE TO SUFFER LOSING CHAKOTAY AGAIN.
GOD.

It's cool people have embrace the Sito connection and the TNG Deep cut it entails and people are wondering how well Mariner knew Wesley Crusher.
Is it wrong that I think being a year or so behind Sito and Sito having graduated in TNG s7 well that makes Mariner a contemporary not of Crusher but of Harry Kim.
Not as much as a deep cut but it'd have been hilarious if Mariner were friends with him instead: "My idol was on his first mission. He never came back, lost in the badlands. I had to tell Libby! I swore as long as Harry Kim remained an ensign so would I!!!"
Just me? Okay then.
Tangentially, I kind of want Harry to be on Admiral Janeway's staff in Prodigy Season 2 and either have been promoted a hilariously excessive number of times... or still be an Ensign and barely out-rank the Prodigies.

Rewatching Prodigy and in Masquerades the doctor lady mentions that he's the work of the protégés of Arik Soong. So they copied his work. But what if Arik Soong's line had gone back to genetic engineering after the events of Enterprise and some continued work into Positronics and others into genetic augmentation. Heck, you could even just say that Altan dabbled in it since the doctor lady said the work was sloppy. That would make Dal at worst Data's distant cousin or at best nephew.
Now, Prodigy takes place 5 years after Data's death in Nemesis and 16-18 years before Data's quasi-resurrection in Picard so there'd have to be temporal shenanigans for them to meet. Unfortunatelyhose never happen in Star Trek. And Brent Spiner has long said he's quit acting forever and will never work on Star Trek again. (Long time Star Trek fans will notice the last two sentences are what the Vulcans call "a lie.")
So yeah, send Dal back in time a bit and let him pal around with his uncle for a bit. Give Data some non-toxic relatives. Let this heal them both.

They’ve lost control of their ships, and it won’t stop until Starfleet destroys themselves. I am requesting your aid and our immediate assistance and help relaying this message to all our non-Federation allies. We beg you: your transports, your freights, your shields… anything that will slow the attack Starfleet is inflicting upon itself.

I couldn’t resist. Starfleet has got to be so fed up with anyone who was ever on Voyager.

it’s nice to see kate mulgrew has just as much chemistry with herself in animation as she did in live action

While the reveal that the “curse” inflicting the indigenous population was being caused by a crashed Galileo Shuttlecraft, seeing it in its deteriorated broken state reminded me of the real Galileo prop.
The Galileo was a massive prop used on the original series. It served as many different shuttlecraft, but was most famous for being the Galileo 7. After TOS ended the prop was left to a prop warehouse and left abandoned for decades where it was free to rot and corrode over time before being picked up by some super fans during an auction.
These fans spent many more years working with master shipbuilders to restore the prop to its original glory. And now the prop is on permanent display in NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Texas.

The Voyager-A shuttles from Prodigy "Supernova II" are seemingly inspired by the Long-Range Warp Shuttle from FASA's TNG Officer's Manual (1988)
