Joey sang some more parody lyrics I wrote, and another Hallelujah
Joey sang some more parody lyrics I wrote, and another Hallelujah
Joey Marianer (to whom, and I cannot stress this enough, I am 💖married❣️) was asked to sing some computer-related songs at a company all-hands meeting, and chose The Bad Coder’s Favourite Things (one of several parodies I’ve written of ‘My Favourite Things’) as one of them. It’s the third one, after Joey’s own ‘Inbox Zero’ (a new addition to our growing list of Hallelujah parodies) and Les…

I'd never heard of studio c before but I'll try to watch out for it in the future if it's like a Mormon propaganda machine. :V my b!
oh beloved i appreciate this v much!! but i think maybe my personal reaction to seeing them out in the wild may have given the wrong impression of what studio c is??😅😭 theyre just a funny little group that makes Wholesome Sketch Comedy -- but since theyre byu based/owned/operated (which generally means vv m//ormon & vv focused on creating Good Clean Content) my family and i used to watch them a LOT. just now im out of the church and unlearning the fear of fun that is NOT Good or Clean, seeing them by surprise on my dash gave me a... much stronger internal reaction than i was expecting ??
but like. the cast in that video obv wasnt actively trying to convert anyone or advertise/advance the university or cult or anything, they were just doing shakespeare and eating spicy chicken lmao. just being theatre adults
all that being said!!! its *definitely* worthwhile to be Very Very Very Wary of anything made on/by byutv (and bonneville/deseret/etc), though

I was reading an opinion piece on Kate Middleton's cancer diagnosis on CNN by Jamal Baig about the increasing rates of cancer in patients under 50. As far as 5 minutes of googling and JSTORing can lend me to believe, there's nothing illegitimate about Dr. Baig. However, I found this bit in his opinion interesting:
Tumblr media
Now, I'm always dubious when reading anything that attributes a very broad generalized idea that changes in diets have caused an increased in cancer, because more often than not it's not pointing to an exploration of, say, increased pesticide use, but the author's personal bias against the quote unquote "unhealthy", especially those who are deemed "fat" by the medical industry.
That being said, I was curious what source he linked, half expecting it to lead to just another op-ed from some other doctor from who knows when, but I was pleasantly surprised! Written by a man named Michael Donaldson, it was an evidentiary review published in a scientific journal called "Nutrition and cancer: A review of the evidence for an anti-cancer diet."
Now I wasn't going to give the whole thing a read, but I stopped in each section, gave a quick skim to get a general vibe, moved on to the next section, etc. I was immediately suspicious that the very first line in the abstract was "It has been estimated that 30–40 percent of all cancers can be prevented by lifestyle and dietary measures alone" as that seems to be a bananas statistic to just posit, but it still had the air of scientific integrity, so I did my skim.
The first handful of sections had things that gave me some moments of pause, that this article was in fact another doctor simply cherry picking data to confirm his own biases, but nothing so egregious as to do a spit take. That comes in a few minutes. The first section that made really go hold the phone was when we got to his Flax Seed section.
Compare how he writes about Red Meat...:
Tumblr media
(that's all he wrote, btw)
...with how he starts writing about Flax Seed:
Tumblr media
Did I just enter a Flax Seed commercial? Does this guy work for BIG FLAX SEED? on and on he writes about Flax Seed, and I start getting a sense that perhaps this man has a Flax Seed Agenda. In any case, he eventually moves on and I quickly skim to get to the end (because it's boring among other things).
So, who exactly is Michael Donaldson?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Girl are you kidding me
The Hallelujah Acres Foundation is a FOR PROFIT company that sells a """biblical""" based diet program called the hallelujah diet and also sells supplements on said site.
Now, in case you forgot where I started with this, this was the link provided as a "source" to a legitimate doctor's claim in an op-ed about cancer that "at least part of the answer" of why cancer is increasing in under 50 patients are the "changes to nutrition and lifestyle that took hold in middle of the last century." Dr. Baig did not read this article, or if he did was not concerned that it was written by the employee of a company that profits from unscientific research it uses to sell supplements and diets. Which is worse, I don't know.
The point I'm making is that you absolutely need to be vigilant all the time. You need to understand that doctors can not only have biases, but agendas. Researchers can have biases and agendas. Scientists can have biases and agendas. And that magical thinking about real health issues that can affect your future can permeate the scientific community because weirdos write convincing enough evidence that support their already determined world view.
This kind of shit is the reason why women go into doctor offices complaining about pain in their abdomen and get told to go lose weight and come back in 6 months. This is why ideas like moralizing eating have huge effects on women's health and influence medical misogyny, and why it's a feminist issue.

...hmm...just thinkin' about an Avatar "no angst" AU, y'know, like an AU where the characters who died in the first movie just...didn't? For example...
• Tsu'tey and Sylwanin are both alive and well. They officially tied the knot not long after the point when Sylwanin would've died in canon, and already have a child together by the time Jake arrives on Pandora.
• Eytukan also lives and therefore he and Mo'at are still leading the clan, though of course Tsu'tey and Sylwanin are next in line.
• Because the schoolhouse incident never happened in this AU, Grace was never kicked out of the village; her school is still running and she is on good terms with the Omatikaya.
• The RDA is overall less psychotic than they are in canon, and the Avatar Program has been largely successful in establishing diplomacy with the local clans. There is still some level of tension between the humans and the Na'vi of course, because the humans are ultimately still there to mine unobtainium and the Na'vi would prefer there was no mining at all, but in this AU the RDA is at least principled enough to not do things like bulldoze the Tree of Voices or bomb Hometree etc. (so, Hometree is still standing). Jake was never asked to spy on the Na'vi.
• Grace is actually the one to introduce Jake to Neytiri when she brings Jake and Norm along to the school one day. Neytiri is intrigued by the goofy non-scientist "warrior" dreamwalker and Jake finds himself equally intrigued by her; they begin spending more and more time together, and when Jake expresses curiosity about her way of life Neytiri just naturally kinda takes it upon herself to teach him the ways of the clan.
• Because Neytiri is neither tsakarem nor engaged to Tsu'tey in this AU, her romance with Jake is not quite as ~forbidden~ as it was in canon (and honestly they make zero effort to hide their feelings; the whole clan knows lol). The only remaining barrier is the fact that he's a dreamwalker and how that may affect things.
• Jake and Neytiri fall head over heels for each other about as fast as they do in canon; after three months Jake is already fully convinced that he wants remain with Neytiri and the clan for the rest of his life rather than ever go back to Earth, where there is nothing left for him. Even getting the spinal surgery to fix his legs no longer holds any interest for him, since of course his avatar body can walk just fine.
• By that point Neytiri begs Mo'at and Eytukan to let Jake do the coming-of-age ceremonies and become part of the clan so they can become mates. Mo'at and especially Eytukan are hesitant, but Mo'at consults Eywa and Eywa sends a sign of approval, so they allow it. Jake spends about an extra month preparing more specifically for Iknimaya and Uniltaron, and soon after completing those he and Neytiri actually get to have a proper mating ceremony. Jake does go through the permanent consciousness transfer at some point, though I haven't yet come up with the exact circumstances there...
• The Sully kids get to have more extended family! Grandpa Eytukan, Uncle Tsu'tey, and Aunt Sylwanin are all still around, along with a handful of cousins (Tsu'tey's and Sylwanin's kids).
• Quaritch never shot Grace in this AU, which means she never had to undergo the attempted consciousness transfer, which means Kiri wasn't conceived the way she was in canon. Buuuuuut I still want Kiri as part of the Sully family, so in this AU she is Jake and Neytiri's biological daughter and Neteyam's twin. She doesn't have the special Eywa powers that she has in canon, but does still have a spiritually-minded personality, and is a strong candidate for next tsakarem after Sylwanin. Grace still adores and dotes on her, especially when she shows interest in botany.
• Norm and Trudy are happy in a long-term relationship.
• There was no Battle at the Hallelujah Mountains, therefore Paz didn't die and was still around to raise Spider (undecided on how involved Quaritch was though).
• I like to imagine that in this AU Paz and Trudy are good friends, both being pilots and all. It's through Trudy that Paz and Spider become involved with folks from the Avatar program and Spider meets the Sully kids.
• Because she doesn't have the RDA-related traumas she has in canon, Neytiri is totally chill with Spider in this AU. She is mostly just curiously amused by the strange little human boy running around with his Na'vi friends.
• Spider is semi-trilingual English/Spanish/Na'vi. English is his go-to since everyone he knows can speak it, but he can also do some Spanish (Paz and maybe Trudy's influence) and quite a lot of Na'vi (Omatikaya influence, though Norm was thrilled to help when he caught wind that Spider was interested in learning). Sometimes he (subconsciously) mixes up a combination of any two or even all three and spews out mishmash sentences no one else understands immediately and has to stop and re-word.
• Because Quaritch is not the Big Bad Evil Guy the way he is in canon, Spider isn't really bothered by being called Miles. However, the nickname "Spider" somehow just stuck when he was very young so most people still call him that; it's mostly just Paz (and Quaritch) who call him Miles.
• Jake is not Toruk Makto in this AU, because with the RDA being more cooperative/less aggressive, he never needed to be. He and Neytiri are just normal (albeit well-liked/respected) hunters in the clan. Perhaps eventually a day will come when Toruk Makto is needed and Jake will have some reason to step up...but not yet. He's perfectly content being just a regular clan member.
• This has the side-effect of lessening Neteyam and Lo'ak's dramatic stunts as teenagers, because the legacy they're trying to live up to is simply "strong respectable hunter" rather than "legendary olo'eyktan Toruk Makto"

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora — what do we know about the plot and the lore?
Since many atwow fans, especially here on tumblr, seem to be unaware or not caught up on the new avatar game coming out in two months I thought I’d make this post and spill tea about all the juicy details!
First things first, let me respond to the biggest question you might have:
When is frontiers of Pandora happening, in terms of cannon time-line?
FoP is confirmed to be cannon to the movie franchise and plays out first during the events of the first movie, directly impacted by Jake’s battle in the hallelujah mountains and then continues playing out 15 years later, during the events of avatar the way of water.
What’s the story?
The character we play as is a young, unnamed Na’vi of either female or male sex (judging by promo images), depending on what you choose in the beginning of the game. Their fate is a tragic one, as MC, who lives in the west hemisphere of Pandora is kidnapped from their home by the RDA, together with many other children.
Tumblr media
The captives unwillingly become part of T.A.P, or “The Ambassador Program”, and for years go through constant brainwashing and cruel treatment, all to become perfect "ambassadors" of RDA and enforce its propaganda, most likely through force.
Tumblr media
They become soldiers, taught the weaponry and war tactics of humans, all under the rule of a frankly mentally unstable man named John Mercer.
Tumblr media
(Yes this is him yelling at an 8 year old)
John Mercer is the presumed overseer of the site, controlling the project and acts as the main villain of the game.
When battle of the Hallelujah Mountains occurs and the site looses contact with hell’s gate after it gets attacked by rogue avatars and scientists, the staff sounds the alarm and humans rush to evacuate from Pandora, afraid that Omatikaya will find the base and attack them next. In their rush, John Mercer commands his goons to get rid of the evidence of T.A.P program, namely killing all the Na’vi children they abducted years prior.
Tumblr media
They don’t get to do that however, as MC’s teacher, an avatar that has spent years teaching the children human subjects, shoots the guards dead in panic, leading her students to what presumably is an emergency bunker equipped with cryopods, and puts her students, including the MC to sleep so as they get to escape the wrath of John Mercer’s men and fly under their radar.
Tumblr media
And there they remained for the next 15 years, un disturbed in their slumber until an unknown factor triggered their pod and it opened, waking MC from their sleep and, for the first time in years, they walk free.
Tumblr media
But after an eternity in RDA’s clutches, the main character has forgotten all about their roots and customs. It is up to them now to reconnect with their home and become a true Na’vi once more, with the help of many characters we’ll meet along the way, young and old, from a number of new clans we had never seen before.
Tumblr media
(I’m mostly excited about this old lady, she seems chill af and I like her fit)
But the healing arc is only part of the story, as we know that the RDA canonically comes back 15 years after the battle in the mountains. This time, they’re stronger, meaner, and right back at their business, so it’s up to us, the player, to establish a resistance in the west and fight off the aliens who once more infested Eywa’s lands. John Mercer is, unsurprisingly, also back, though thankfully not as a recombinant.
Okay so what is the EXACT time the main story plays out?
The story plays out the year 2169 according to the timeline, which is about the same time the Omatikaya perform a train raid we see in the movie. The RDA has established their base (Bridgehead) in the east and is trying to expand its operations to the western frontier, which is where the MC comes in. As a "child of two worlds", the character can use both the classic Na’vi weaponry as well as human firearms and traps of all kinds. Ironically the RDA, through its cruelty, had created a formidable enemy that knows ins and outs of their thinking similarly to Jake Sully.
Hold up so, if FoP and Atwow happen parallel to each other, does it mean that we’ll get to meet the movie characters and interact with them?
I can’t say for sure. Geographically, the game and the movie play out in two different hemispheres, which greatly brings down the chance of meeting any of the characters we know face to face. However, it is more than likely that the game will expand on the movie lore and we’ll get to find out more about Jake’s operations, as well as the operations of RDA (including the recom program).
.
Here is the link to the overview trailer of the game that will cover the info I wrote above and some more.
I heavily recommend that you check out the game, as it looks extremely promising so far and I can’t be more hyped! If you got any more questions, feel free to drop them into my ask box!

What happened at world's??? I'm not up to date 😭
LMAOOO WHAT DIDN'T????
Ok brief summary of every disciplinne which will end up long so
MEN:
Boyang messed up so much in the SP he didn't even get to the free. To quote his coach Brian "I don't even know what that was." My boy obviously thinks that the men need to flop in every city starting with M... Milano 2018, Montreal 2024.... let's hope he keeps that mindset for worlds and olympics because they are also in Milano
Junhwan also flopped in the SP, but not as much thank skating gods! He did better in the fs but I really didn't get anything from his programs this season anyways so I wasn't as devastated as I would be let's say with any prev season's fuck up
Kao also flopped SP missing the combo because of the 4T attempt. Absolutely magnificent opening 4S, best of the SP event! He attacked some titans in the FS but got eaten immediately by 4Lo and 4S
Shoma finally listened to me telepathically and flopped the free
Jason was overscored as fuck, he should not have been above Deniss in any segment but he has the american money. However, he did serve.
Have to mention Nikolaj Memola having a very solid senior worlds debut!!!
Ilia uuuh got the world record in the FS, 227 something and now he's going viral and how I feel about it is 😐 The 4A was magnificent, and yeah yeah he can jump and yeah it's a Succession program but PLEASE WATCH SOMEONE WHO'S ACTUALLY DOING FIGURE SKATING! One can only wonder what's next? A quint? A quad-quad combo? Because he did everything else and I doubt he'll decide to get some skating skills
Donovan was absolutely stellar! And the audience loved him!
The epic highs (Romsky SP) and epic lows (Romsky FS) - as usual
Deniss went clean (if we don't count popping the opening quad in the FS) in both SP and FS. His SP is a religious experience, and he's skating to Hallelujah exactly how Leonard Cohen would have wanted. 100% worth watching (costume deduction for showing tits is soooo funny). He also did a mad thing and debuted a new free st worlds. I was sad to see Blues Deluxe go and very sceptic about Lion King, that's junior music to me but IT WAS STUNNING and I hope he keeps it for the next season so I can see it live in Zagreb
Yuma... GOD!!!!!! He is right now THE best skater we have in this disciplinne. Carolina Costner is doing wonders for his skating skills. And somehow this was meant to be a recovery season. Meanwhile he blew everyone else out of the water. Yuma is definitely worth getting into figure skating. Two stunning programs, some textbook jumps, mind-blowing performance ability and just lovely skating skills
Adam was probably the definition of men singles skating event. 19th in the sp, everyone despaired about him... because you know, there's no hope for Boyang but there is some for Adam? And boy was there hope!!! He goes clean in the FS, does a fucking banned backflip which I am not a fan of, probably thinking "fuck it I did an amazing program but from 19th I have no chance to medal anyways so I'll just do this instead" so he takes 2 deductions. And medals. Biggest jump placement wise in history of the sport. Sooo then fucking Benoit who is already delusional about his choreo skills goes and says how he wants to create choreo so revolutionary that could potentially get him banned. My dude, you should have been banned a long time ago for Kaori's I love being a woman free at least...
WOMEN:
Tbh they were in the middle of the night for me and since men singles is my fave disciplinne it's also the only one I'd stay awake for so... not much to say here. Sorry. But there wasn't any insane drama I think, the results did take me out in the SP, but it ended up pretty nice in the end
I did see Kaori and while her programs are far from my favourites this season I am 100% convinced that girl could sell me anything. The highlight of both her performances, apart from how insanely well she did to come back from 4th to win overall in the FS, was her reaction to a botched Lutz landing in the SP. Her SP is also dedicated to her niece and nephew and it's so soft. Also imagine in a few years a teacher asks kids to say a fun fact about themselves in the first class and this kid gets up and says uuuh my aunt won her 3rd consecutive world title with one of the programs being about me being born. THE FLEX!
I only got to see Hana's FS in real time and I have made an entire post about Shakuhachi so please go watch that if you haven't, it's a masterpiece. Koo Koo Fun is also a masterpiece in some other aspects! Also go watch that! I think she did an amazing job for a kid at her first worlds in her first senior season.
Mone WHAT A COME BACK IN THE FREE!!! Which rip... I like her SP more, but definitely also chek out the Sendai baby Mone if you haven't
I've seen Amber's FS, the only clean 3A of the evening. I really hope she can one day pull off a completely clean free one day
Young had an epic performance in the SP, that StSq is just cheff's kiss. I didn't catch her FS but uhhh I also don't really want to hurt myself so I won't even try to look for it
Chaeyeon sadly has a Benoit abomination for her FS, her SP is also by Benoit but she sells it so well. I say this about her FS because quite frankly it's the FS that got her the medal.
PAIRS:
Deanna and Maxime. That's it that's what you need to know about pairs. She is a superstar, they did an Interview With the Vampire free with stunning costumes. Their SP was a firecracker! Deanna is the oldest woman ever to win the gold in figure skating, and she should be THE inspiration to all little girls trying out the sport thinking that it's just a few years of fame. You can be 40 and winning gold in your home city!
Riku and Ryuichi did so well considering they are coming back from an injury and they brought back Woman (2020-21 and 2021-22 FS). Silver was very much very well deserved
I think the only other team I remember leaving an insane impression on me were Hocke/Kunkel in the SP, absolutely fucking robbed.
Pairs was overall the best disciplinne and you should watch it, I didn't have time to see any free skates except for SD/D and M/K so that's about what I can say about the event
ICE DANCE:
Head in hands, this used to be a disciplinne where you go to therapy (skating skills) after the horrors (jump fests)
Chock/Bates won which is a fucking joke because the only thing they have going for them is the fact that Madison is hot and that can be a distraction once or twice, but not at every fucking competition and not at worlds. When will they retire?
Piper and Paul were stunning, their programs are always either a hit or a miss no inbetween and this season they are a HIT! Especially the Wuthering Heights FD you should see it! They won the free, but Skate Canada forgot to homecook in the RD so they got silver overall
Charlene and Marco have the campiest RD this season but it works!!! The only superheros I am willing to watch on my screen, marvel wishes it's characters had what these two do. Their FD is also really nice. LOVED Barb's interview where she said Madison and Evan are slow af lol, but rip she was so confident about G/F placing above G/P and then bam bronze
LALA THE TRUE WORLD CHAMPIONS! Absolutely stunning and fun RD to Thriller with Zachary actually being the main character. It's also my mom's favourite ice dance program of the season overall! And then you have a complete change of emotion and tone in their Roses FD which is just soft and elegant and she is literally dressed in flower petals. They showed so much variety and growth this season. It's a program made to be adored, and their skating offers so much quality. RD is passionate and mindblowing, FD is enchanting seamless. If ice dance was a real sport they would be the world champions!
Christina Carreira and Anthony Ponomarenko in strong contention for my fave RD this season. I am probably a bit biased becasue it's Stevie Nicks. They had an amazing glo up this season imo. Their FD offers a lot of intense character projections: obsession, possessiveness. Choreo is intricate, it's a very tasteful program. Someone on here said we should have more programs about murder after their performance and I couldn't agree more. ALSO Scott and Madison in the K&C!!!!!!
You can barely guess that Lim/Quan are a first season senior couple. They managed to make me watch Let's Go Crazy without sighing about how much I miss Yuzuru. Insanely hot in that program. Their Umbrellas are also in my top 3 free dances this season. Amazing performances at their first senior worlds
Ok I'm only gonna mention absolute delight and theatrics that Pirihara bring on the ice. Such a unique Chicago presentation! I can't wait to see what they plan to do next season.

this is sooo chaotic, and i might do a rewrite at somepoint, but not now~

★⌒ヽ
The future's lookin' bleak Your will to live is weak But honey, hold on for me...
★⌒ヽ
You sit up so fast you bang your head on the lid of the link pod. Cursing silently you stand, rubbing your forehead.
Your father crosses his arms before motioning for you to follow him. You follow after him, not giving anyone a second glance as Grace calls after you.
You sit in silence as he moves paperwork around the desk, searching for something. You twist a loose strand of hair around your finger before speaking, "Dr. Augustine doesn't like how you're meddling in the Avatar program."
He stops abruptly, dropping a stack of papers, and you watch as they float to the floor. His fists clench, knuckles whitening, "Well, it doesn't matter what she thinks, I need you to focus on the mission assigned to you."
Sighing you blurt out, "She's planning on taking us to the Hallelujah Mountains, in two weeks."
He scoffs, tossing an envelope on the desk, "That won't be happening."
Crossing your arms you groan in frustration, "It will be, you know that this is our best chance at getting Parker's damn unobtainium."
You stand hand on the door frame before your eyes catch sight of a familiar picture. A small plain silver frame, a woman with long brown hair and dark eyes smiles, her hair whipping wildly across her face, her eyes squinting as the sun blinds her.
Your hand grips the door frame tighter, "Of course you kept it," you snap angrily as you slam the door behind you.
Storming through the hallways you nearly pass your door, when someone calls out to you. Looking over your shoulder you see Jake in the hallway. Your face heats up when the memories of the last few hours surface and you throw open your door.
He clears his throat before speaking, "Listen, about earlier-"
You cut him off sharply, "Goodnight, Jake."
You shut the door and slide down against it, holding your hands in your head, you whisper, "Fuck."
★⌒ヽ
Hiding from Jake hadn't exactly been easy, but you managed. It wasn't that you didn't like him, things were just complicated, especially after that night.
And hiding from Jake meant hiding from the others too. Grace had been hounding after you for weeks, she at least seemed to sense something had happened. And Norm, well, he didn't understand why you had been so avoidant, but he at least gave you space. Until today at least.
Your feet tap against the ground nervously as you reach for another cigarette, almost lighting it before someone clears their throat nervously in front of you, "Grace wants to see you."
You drop the cigarette and toss your lighter back into your pocket before following Norm to the link room.
Grace stands with her hands on the table in front of her, annoyance clear on her face when she looks up at you, "Where have you been?"
Taking a seat in front of the table you meet her eyes, "Nowhere in particular."
"Damn it, you know how important this is, we leave in the morning! You disappeared for two weeks!"
You shrug your shoulders and lean forward on your hands, your hair falling in your face, obscuring your vision. She grabs your shoulder, forcing you to face her, her eyes full of sympathy as she speaks, "Be here tomorrow, one hour before we depart."
She releases your shoulder and strides out of the room, leaving you alone with Norm.
"I'm glad you're back," he says with a nervous smile as he takes a seat across from you, flipping open a book on Pandoran ecology when the link pod at the end of the room opens up, revealing a disheveled Jake. His brow twists in confusion when he sees you, his mouth opening, "H-how, why. Where were you?"
Standing your shoulders tense, and you speed walk into the hallway, heat rising up your face before you light another cigarette, and hear Norm reprimand you for smoking near the link room.
You almost feel numb waking up the next morning, following Norm into the link room, watching as Grace makes preparations to leave.
"So where're we going?" asks Jake as he enters the room, stopping next to you.
Grace steps towards him, "Getting out of Dodge. I'm not about to let Selfridge and Quaritch micro-manage this thing," she says as she throws a glance at you.
"There's a mobile link up at site 26 we can work out of, way up in the mountains."
A look of shock comes over Norm's face as he steps closer to Grace, "The Hallelujah Mountains?"
"That's right," Grace says.
You groan, but at least Norm looks excited, "Are you serious?"
"Yes!"
You smile as he laughs, and cover your mouth with your hand, as Jake looks up at him in confusion. Norm's expression changes from excitement to one of jealousy as he speaks, "The legendary floating mountains of Pandora? Heard of them?"
You frown at him and whisper to Jake, "It's fine, he's just jealous," with a laugh.
★⌒ヽ
"We're getting close," Grace says over the noise of the blades of the helicopter.
You wince when Trudy replies, "Yeah, look at my instruments," and see them glitching all over the screen.
"Yep, we're in the Flux Vortex."
"Which means we're VFR from now on," Trudy says as she chews her gum.
You try to keep your eyes on the floor of the helicopter, so you don't get too dizzy, but look up when Norm asks what VFR means, and Trudy replies, "Means you gotta see where you're goin'."
"You can't see anything," Norm prompts as you glance out the window, seeing nothing but fog.
"Exactly," she laughs, "Ain't that a bitch?"
And as you crane your neck to look out the window, thoughts of dizziness now gone, you can see them. The mountains, floating, but not moving as you pass them by, are covered in vines and flowers, and ferns.
And you gasp, marveling at the beauty of them while Norm blurts out, "Oh my God."
Trudy laughs again, "You should see your faces!"
And seconds later you're landing.
"Thank you for flying Air Pandora," Trudy says before shutting off the helicopter.
You carefully reattach your oxygen mask and step down from the helicopter, walking up to the door of the lab. Although you don't bother waiting for Grace or the others to enter, quickly take your mask off again and inhale deeply.
Tossing your bag on your new bed for the next six months or however long, you watch as Grace turns on the power, led lights nearly blinding you as Jake and Norm file in.
Trudy tosses a bag down and grabs a bottle of water from the fridge as Grace starts to explain the layout.
"All right Jake, hang a left and you'll be in the link at the end," she points to the end of the room, "Unit One, Beulah. She's the least glitchy."
"Quaritch, you'll be in the middle, Unit Two. Second least glitchy," she says as she passes you directing Norm to where his link is.
You can feel your face heat up in anger when the name leaves her lips, Quaritch, truth be told, you'd rather be called anything else.
Dinner is quiet as you push your food, now turned to mush, around your plate, Grace stares at you, before turning to Norm. You feel a tap on your hand underneath the table and flinch, looking over to see Jake, looking at you, torn between saying something and staying silent.
You grab his hand, entwining your fingers, and you hear him catch his breath before his grip tightens on your hand.
★⌒ヽ
Jake watched as you walked past him to join Mo'at, and gave a small wave. Which you completely ignored before Neytiri appeared before him, her eyes inquisitive as she glanced back to see you.
So, you were still avoiding him, not that that was anything new, he thought to himself as Neytiri took a seat on a nearby moss covered log.
"Today you will learn the language of the people," she said as he sat down across from her.
After Neytiri had discussed the basics of the language, they began repeating words back to each other, starting with how to pronounce certain words and phrases.
"Na’rìng," Neytiri says slowly.
"Na’rìng," Jake says as she pronounces it again stressing the 'a' sound.
"Again, na’rìng."
"Na’rìng!"
He flinches as she smacks his head muttering, "Skxawng," under her breath.
It was just repetition after repetition after that. At first, Jake tried to use learning the new words to distract himself from thoughts of you, but he failed miserably. He wanted to say something, anything to get you to even acknowledge his presence, but he didn't know what.
Just as Neytiri is about to pronounce the word again, he hears your voice coming from behind him, "No, I don't think so."
Standing, Neytiri greets you, "Snatanhì, how are you?"
You laugh, and smile as she gives you a quick hug, "I am well, and you?"
"Jake Sully is difficult to teach, but I manage," her words make your smile drop, your eyes looking over to him.
"I see," you say, coughing into your hand before wishing her luck and following after Tsu'tey.
He frowns as he watches you leave. It had been almost two weeks since you had had any sort of conversation, well other than brief greetings and asking how the weather was.
His brow furrowed as he thought about how to get you to talk to him, or at least stop leaving the room every time your eyes met. Just as Neytiri starts with another word, and his eyes light up with an idea.
★⌒ヽ
The next day your eyes flutter open, and you sit up in your hammock and follow Neytiri, and Jake through the branches of the tree. Watching as Neytiri calls for her Ikran, you wonder where Tsu'tey is.
And then you hear the screeching of Seze, who lands in front of Neytiri, her wings flapping, kicking up the leaves, so they swirl around you.
"Holy shit!"
"Do not look in her eye," Neytiri says as she offers her a piece of meat, "Seze."
"Tam tam, Seze," she whispers as she pats her neck.
"Ikran is not horse. Once Tsaheylu is made," you watch as she makes Tsaheylu with Seze, "Ikran will fly with one hunter in the whole life."
You take a step back as Neytiri mounts Seze, "To become taronyu, hunter, you must choose your own Ikran, and he must choose you."
"When?" asks Jake his voice oozing confidence.
"When you are ready," Neytiri replies as she pulls down her visor and takes off.
You watch as she flies around the tree, and duck when she nearly knocks you off, laughing before you hear Tsu'tey behind you.
"Come, there is more training for you," he says, leaving you to catch up.
You give Jake a small wave and rush after him, wondering what training he'll have in store for you.
It turns out to be more archery. Your limbs feel sore as you hobble to your hammock and lie down, your eyes closing, and then opening. The lid of the link greets you.
★⌒ヽ
You pick at your nails as you record your video log, "Video log twelve, not much to say, it hasn't even been a full week yet. But I have made more progress with the bow, I don't miss my target nearly as much, so Tsu'tey hasn't been too upset with me. And I started helping more with Mo'at," you grimace, remembering how many different herbs and medicines you had to memorize with her.
"I think I know the name of every medicine, how to use it, alternative ingredients, and where to find them now. My brain feels fried."
Racking your brain, you try to think of something else to add, but come up with nothing, opting to instead end the video log.
"Done already?" asks Grace as she writes something down on a paper, free hand holding back her hair.
"Yeah, I'm going to the link now."
She hums in agreement as you pull the lid down, and close your eyes, and then open them.
The day goes by quickly, and you end up spending most of it with Tsu'tey practicing archery and hand to hand combat. You kick your feet at his legs, almost knocking him to the ground, but he catches it instead, slamming you into the ground, his knife on your neck.
You shut your eyes, thinking of a way to reverse the situation when his knife leaves your throat and you hear Neytiri and Jake approach.
Tsu'tey stands and greets Neytiri, ignoring Jake as you stand and dust yourself off, unsheathing your knife, and lunge at him. He stumbles forward as you hold your knife to his neck, your knee digging into his shoulder blades when you feel a hand on your shoulder.
Looking up you see Jake, his eyes filled with uncertainty as Tsu'tey uses your distractedness to throw you off of him. Your knife falls to the ground with a dull thud and you groan in annoyance.
"You distracted me, I almost had him!" you shove his shoulder playfully, smiling before turning back to Tsu'tey, "What's next then?"
After your training with Tsu'tey and watching the sun set, decide to gather some more herbs for Mo'at, and let the bioluminescent plants guide you through the forest, pointedly ignoring the sound of footsteps coming from behind you.
Grabbing a fist full of bark from the tree in front of you, you carefully place it into the basket next to you. You reach down to grab it but feel hands on your waist. You gasp when you feel lips on your ear.
You turn to see Jake standing behind you as cups your face in his hand. You lean into his touch, your eyes closing as he leans in, lips meeting yours. You feel a shiver run down your spine as his hands move to grab your ass, and he pushes you against the tree behind you. His lips trail down your neck, and you cover your mouth to conceal a moan, but he yanks your hand away from your mouth, "Don't, I want to hear you, baby girl."
You stiffen at his words, your eyes going wide as he stares at you, before closing them, "Why?" you whisper, as he kisses your neck, his hands between your thighs.
His fingers slip beneath your loincloth, "I want to hear you when I make you come."
You throw your head back, your fingers grasping at the bark behind you, "Fuck," you moan as his fingers move to rub your clit. Your knees shake as he keeps your clit between his thumb and index finger, rubbing in small circles, teasing you, before he slides a finger inside of you.
You close your eyes and bite your lip to hold in your moan as he slowly slides a second finger inside of you, curling his fingers upward to stroke that spot inside of you.
"Please," you beg, wetting your lips, "L-let me come," you whimper, and he slides his fingers out of your warmth and shoves them into your mouth.
He turns you around to face him, your eyes meeting his, "Do it. No, don't close your eyes, look straight at me."
You whimper at his words, you didn't even realize you had closed your eyes. He slides his fingers out of your mouth, "I want to see the look on your face when you come, baby girl."
You let out a small moan, desperate to come when you realize he's already removed his own loincloth, before he slides his fingers back into your mouth. Your jaw drops as he puts his hands back between your thighs, quickly sliding his fingers back inside of you.
"Fucking hell," he groans, watching your mouth, as you suck his fingers.
His fingers slide out, and he grabs your hips, and slides his cock inside of you, thrusting forward, he slams his mouth on yours, muffling the  moan that erupts from you, he groans, "Fuck, you're so tight."
The bark scratches at your back and you throw your head back, your eyes falling on the bright blue sky above you as you focus on the feeling, You wrap your legs around Jake, and moving your arms around his neck and arch your back, to press your chest against him, "F-fuck," you moan, grinding your hips into his.
You feel his fingers dig into your hips as he fingers your clit, and you throw your head back, your hair falling in front of your eyes, as you moan.
You cry out, your whole body trembling, as your orgasm rocks through you. He pumps his hips forward and you feel his cock pulse as he spills himself into you.
You breathe heavily, gasping as you feel his come drip out of you. Jake rests his head on your shoulder, panting. Your arms wrapped around each other.
"Oh, shit," you gasp and Jake lets out a chuckle, kissing your neck, "Don't," you whine, covering your neck with your hand, "Your mouth is right there, I can still feel your mouth on me."
"Good," he whispers to you and you roll your eyes.
Jake pulls out of you and your eyes fall on your thigh, a small red mark from the bark where you gripped it.
"Damn it," you say, wiping at the mark with a slightly irritated sigh.
Jake laughs and kisses your cheek, "Maybe you should stop using trees as your cushion, then you wouldn't have that problem."
"I'm not always having sex with you," you pout.
You grab the basket and begin to gather your things, when you hear his voice, "I can make it so you do."
You look at him, your eyes widening, "Jake-"
"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said anything," he says, getting up.
You sigh, "No, it's just, complicated."
"I know, I just-" and he sighs, "It's just really nice with you, I don't want it to stop."
"I don't want it to stop either," and you meet his eyes, "But it's not that easy," and you grab the basket and begin to walk away.
Jake grabs your hand, "Wait," he says, and turns you to face him  "I just want you to know that I want... this," and he gestures between the two of you, "I don't want it to become awkward between us, I want this to stay the same."
You nod, "I-I want that too," your voice is quiet, "I'm sorry I avoided you then, I was dealing with a lot," and you sniffle.
Jake pulls you into a hug and kisses the top of your head and you bury your face into his chest.
"Your Father?" he questions, his voice soft as you nod your head.
"No, I just don't know if I can go through with this."
"With what?"
You sigh, tears brimming in your eyes, "The mission, assignment. Whatever the hell you want to call it, it's not right."
His hand brushes away your tears and pulls you closer to his chest, his thoughts in turmoil.
★⌒ヽ
You flinch at the sound of Grace stirring in her sleep. Looking over you sigh in relief, seeing that she's still fast asleep you maneuver yourself over the metal threshold and sit on the edge of Jake's bunk. His eyes blink slowly before they open and he grabs your arm and pulls you to lay down next to him.
Feeling his arms wrap around you, you smile and nuzzle into his chest. It was strange, you thought, being so close to someone. In your twenty-one years of living, you had never once really given thought to what it would be like to have someone who cared for you.
Of course, you had your Father and Mother. But your Father was never really around much or cared for you much at all until your Mother died of course. And your Mother, well, you had been sure any ounce of love you were capable of having had died with her. But now, you weren't so sure, you thought as you felt Jake's lips linger on the shell of your ear, his warm breath making your face heat up.
"Still awake?" he asked groggily as you felt his arms wrap around your waist, pulling you closer to him.
Humming in reply your lips met his in a quick kiss. Hearing a muffled sigh you laid your head back on his chest, smiling. Things might turn out alright in the end, you thought to yourself as your eyes closed, ushering in a dream filled with past memories.
★⌒ヽ
You could almost taste the anger in the air as you walked to your Father's office, the door cracked open slightly, yellow light illuminating a small sliver of the hallway.
"You're going home, with-"
Your Father was cut off sharply by your Mother's voice, her voice angry as she whisper shouted at him, "I'm not leaving, my whole life's work is here on this planet, and you want me to abandon it because you think I'm getting 'too close' with the Omatikaya?"
Her laugh is bitter as she crosses her arms in indignation, "I can't believe you, it's because of her isn't it?"
You flinch when you hear his hands slam on the desk, its feet scraping as it moves forward.
"The both of you will be leaving after your next assignment, and if you don't, I'll make damn sure you're on that ship first thing in the morning."
She scoffs, "Is that a threat? I don't understand why I can't stay. Let me do my work, it's not like I'm interfering in whatever the hell Parker wants," she pauses to clear her throat before continuing, "And what about our daughter? She was born here, she's never even stepped foot on Earth!"
"She'll be fine-"
Losing your grip on the door, you fall forward, and his gaze snaps to you.
And suddenly you hear your name being called and feel a hand shaking you awake. Rubbing your eyes and look up to see Grace looking down at you, a small smirk on her lips as you sit up and push your hair out of your face.
"What time is it?" you say, words slurred with drowsiness as you rub your eyes again and stretch.
"6:30. Now, hurry up and eat, village life starts early, remember?" she says as you take a seat at the small table.
Norm gives you a good morning before turning back to his computer, and Grace passes you a plate of eggs. You eat them quickly before standing and rushing over to your link, hoping that Tsu'tey will be lenient with your lateness.
★⌒ヽ
The days rush by like a river, fast, and everchanging, and suddenly it's your forty-second day in the mountains. This also happens to be the day Jake convinces Mo'at to let Grace back into the village.
And it seems time flies by faster after that. Three weeks after Grace is allowed back into the village, Tsu'tey takes you to hunt. You follow him through the trees, listening to the sounds of animals chirping and drops of rain falling against the canopy of leaves above your head when he motions for you to stop.
You glance ahead and see a yerik standing in front of a moss covered log. Notching your arrow, you pull back the string and let it fly past you, the force of the string snapping cutting your cheek.
Rushing over to the now flailing yerik you feel guilt twisting in your stomach. But you push it aside and unsheathe your knife as Tsu'tey stands behind you, watching silently.
"I see you, sister, and thank you," you finish as you stab into it.
"Your spirit goes with Eywa, your body stays behind to become part of the people."
You sheath your knife and pull the arrow from the yerik as Tsu'tey looks down at you, "You are ready."

[Translation] SPUR September 2023
Exclusive Interview with Stéphane Lambiel "About Love"
Stéphane Lambiel invites us into his beautiful musical world with his smooth skating and graceful ballet-like movements on the ice. He talks about his love and passion for skating, and everything in his life.
Looking back on his remarkable season as a coach.
Stéphane Lambiel came to Japan to perform in "Fantasy on Ice," the most prominent ice show in Japan. In the 2022-23 figure skating season, Japan's Shoma Uno, whom he coaches, won his second consecutive World Championships, and Koshiro Shimada won a silver medal at the All-Japan Championships. Latvia's Deniss Vasiljevs has also distinguished himself in the Grand Prix Series, so it has been smooth sailing for the coach.
"Shoma, Koshiro, and Deniss are not the only young talents sprouting up one after another. I want all the students at Champery (Switzerland) to grow. I hope my teaching will have a positive impact on their careers and lives. That's my number one goal right now."
After the Corona disaster, the international sports scene is slowly returning to its original state. This year, Stéphane organized a joint training camp in Kyoto with students from the Kinoshita Academy in Japan and Champéry.
"This is a good opportunity for the students to experience a different method from the one they are used to," said Stéphane. This time, we also made time for them to learn physical performance that is different from skating, such as yoga and dance lessons, not only on the ice. By learning new ways to use their bodies, they can feed back to their skating and improve their artistry. They were able to motivate each other, so I felt it was beneficial to share practice.
Today, Kinoshita is home to an elite group of figure skaters who are the future of figure skating.
"I was amazed by all the students. They are able to practice very meticulously while also maintaining their focus. If I had to name a few players that I personally pay attention to, I would say junior players Mao Shimada and Shunsuke Nakamura. I feel something special about them. Hana Yoshida knows her body well and has the ability to use it well."
About the challenges to tackle for the new season
During the training camp, Stéphane also choreographed new programs. He also said it was an opportunity to see the response from Uno, Shimada, and Vasilijevs.
"As for Koshiro, he will continue with his SP "Sing Sing Sing". For FS, he will perform a piano version of "Danse Macabre," choreographed by me. Denis performed his new SP "Hallelujah" for "Fantasy on Ice". This was his first time working with choreographer Shae-Lynn Bourne. It was a very innovative piece, and it took him some time to understand what she was trying to achieve. Then he practiced a lot, and made it his own. I will be choreographing the FS, which will be different from the atmosphere of the past. Please look forward to it.
Shoma has two programs for SP, and I think he is considering which one to use for the competition. One is by Shae-Lynn, and the other one is my creation. I think he will decide after skating both of them at the summer ice show. The SP I made will have a pretty challenging content. It will be divided into several parts, with a short intro to present the outline of the story, followed by a romantic and lyrical part, and then a dynamic change at the end. The unfolding is quite extreme, and I think it will be a very intense performance. I'm looking forward to seeing it at the show, too. For FS, I have proposed some songs, and the choreography will be done by Kenji Miyamoto."
This will be his third (sic) season as Uno's coach. Stéphane says he will do his best to support Uno, who has expressed his desire to improve his expressive side.
There are two wonderful things about Shoma," said Stéphane. One is the rich expressive power of his eyes and of his body movements as a whole. The other is his passion to control everything by himself. When he learns something new, his willingness to practice and make it absolutely his own is second to none. These two virtues have already made him a unique, one-of-a-kind skater. If he is looking for something more on top of that... from me, I think I can help him in terms of musicality. Of course he has musical sense, but I think he can deepen it even more. by refining his sensibility, he will be able to add more "umami", as they say in Japanese, to his performance, a taste that only he can bring out. I believe that the audience too will be able to sense something special from his performance.
Putting his love for his soulmate into his dance on the ice
Thirteen years after retiring from professional skating, Stéphane is now in his mature stage as a professional figure skater. The two performances at this year's Ice Show were truly musical works that moved the audience emotionally.
The first piece performed at Fantasy on Ice was the fourth movement of Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 5, Adagietto. My friend Beatrice Belieu(?), a musician, played the piano and made the arrangement. The second is "Simple song" from the soundtrack of the movie "Grand Finale" (2015). Adagietto was choreographed by Salome Brunner. In fact, the performance presented here is only a part of the whole. Champéry has a festival called "Rencontres Musicales de Champéry" (Encounters with Music), and next year I will be skating Adagietto with Beatrice, who will play live.
The adagietto by Maher, known in the 70's for the film "Death in Venice" and more recently as the key piece in the film "TAR" (2022), is a classic. The sweet and dramatic tune is linked with a personal story.
Mahler's Adagietto was written with love as its theme. Through this song, I wanted to express the various stages of love that I have experienced. It begins with the meeting of two people, the period of burning love that brings them together as one, and then the period when there are discrepancies in the relationship. After overcoming these difficulties, they feel comfortable with each other, and then they rediscover each other as if they had met anew, even though they are the same person. The first meeting and the last meeting have different meanings, and their love evolves. When I skate to this song, I envision in my mind's eye a very rich relationship with the person I am now living with, my soulmate. There is actually a subtle twist to this performance. I thought of it with Salome, it has the same movement at the beginning and the end, but in reverse. With that movement, I expressed the evolution of the relationship and the sense of distance that is created.
He devised the choreography for 'Simple song' with his colleagues at Champéry. It is an insert song for the movie, sung wistfully by Korean opera singer Sumi Jo.
I had heard this song by chance before I saw the movie, and I thought it was a great song. I rediscovered it after watching the film, and then chose it. The personal theme of this film is growing older. Considering my own career, I am slowly approaching the limits of my physical capabilities, and I don't think I will be able to skate for much longer in the future. Still, there is a part of me that wants to skate forever. So when I am skating to this song, I express myself to the fullest as my performance, and I hope that it will be forever. *Adagietto and Simple Song both incorporate movements that require quite a bit of physical endurance, since I have to stand on one point of the edge of my skates and hold it for a long time. The goal is to achieve a noble movement despite being forced to exert that kind of control. Although I feel pleasure in being able to be in control, there are also times when I feel fragility and danger in front of the audience. It's a very lovely moment."
At this year's Fantasy on Ice, fellow skater Johnny Weir retired.
We get together every year in early summer for the show, and the performers are like family. I've talked about that with Johnny, too. It's sad to retire from the ice show, but I think it's also a positive thing. I can't speak for him, but I think he would like to do another project in his life. We have promised that we will spend time together again somewhere. Maybe a private vacation! Sometimes I think about my last show myself. I haven't made up my mind yet.
Despite being involved in a variety of activities, you are still passionate about skating. What is the source of your motivation?
I think it has something to do with the fact that I have matured, and when I aim for my best performance, I want to express myself in the most natural way. My personality is lyrical and romantic, so I often get inspiration from watching that kind of movies or from stage music. Music shakes up emotions from a deep place inside of me, and pushes to the surface the life force within. I can skate by borrowing the energy of the song. As I feel that, I guess that maybe I can perform better, with a sense of unity."

Changes in the Forest - R!Quaritch x Na’vi!Reader | Part 4
Previous | Next
Word Count: 2648
Sitting in the barren room, you were calmly up against the wall.
After arriving at what Quaritch called ‘Bridgerhead’ you were led inside by the recombinants, getting either horrified or disgusted looks by the humans around – it was clear that most weren’t a fan of Na’vi.
Yet you noticed that it wasn’t just you. The recombinants were getting those looks just the same.
Footsteps outside of the room caught your attention as you felt your ear turn to the noise, keenly aware of the double sets of prints. Yet they walked past the room you were in and you huffed silently, leaning your head back to lean against the wall, your eyes closing.
You just hoped No’gue and Yalai made it home safe.
-
“Colonel, I cannot authorise this.”
Swallowing softly, Quaritch stood before Ardmore, his ears angled slightly back and twitching ever so nervously.
“You bring one of the people who kill my men here.” She chastised, an angry look on her face as she turned a screen to directly face the recom, showing a scan of your face from within the prison cell, dots of the face-tracking program matching to the still image beside it – taken from one of the shipment raids.
“I think-“ “I don’t care what you think, soldier.” Ardmore interrupted, her gaze stern. “Not only has she reportedly killed good men and women, you have also just returned with a dead recombinant. That is five billion out of the RDA’s pocket. Thrown down the drain!”
“Rowan-“ Quaritch emphasised the name, “-was killed before any of us could react. With all due respect, we were sent out there by your order, general. That was a casualty of the forest before it was any mistake of mine. You wish to do this the hard way? That’s what happens.”
Crossing her arms, Ardmore couldn’t fight with that, looking from the colonel back to the hologram of Bridgerhead as she picked up her coffee mug.
Shifting slightly, Quaritch then breathed out sharply before he put his hand on his hip and bent forward, turning the screen in his face back to be right in front of the general. “Look. A soldier is precisely what we need. Sully is still the greatest liability. He was conducting the raids. Now from this native-“ He pointed at your face. “-we’ve learnt that Sully’s fled. Since then, no raids have occurred.”
“What are you saying, colonel?”
“You wanted my team to try and trick the immune response of the planet. We now know the animals won’t attack us directly but any transport we take? Doesn’t change; it will get taken down.” Quaritch spoke, standing back up straight as he crossed his arms. “Making an alliance with the Na’vi – she can teach us how Sully does it, making us able to get in his head and find him. Not only that, I say we rehash the plan from fifteen years ago.”
Putting down her cup, general Ardmore narrowed her eyes, looking up at the recombinant. “Explain.”
“We sent Sully into the Omaticaya clan so that he could get them to move.”
“Which resulted in your- and hundreds of soldiers’ deaths, if I recall correctly?” Ardmore spoke, her brows furrowing angrily.
“Correct, ma’am.” Quaritch responded, walking over to the hologram of the hallelujah mountains. “However, if we want to bring earth here, we need to make sure hostiles aren’t attacking soldiers, let alone normal citizens.”
“You want to learn their ways to… what? Know what they do in a day?”
Closing his eyes, Quaritch breathed softly to try and keep himself stoic, the general’s stubbornness getting on his nerves. “Taking out Sully is step one. But once that is done, then what? We need to make sure no other natives pick up his mantle. Like it or not, we cannot murder every Na’vi on the planet. If we know how they tick, we can figure out how to best integrate human life. If I know they like to bathe in mud, we can build our cities away from their mud ponds.” He spoke, moving his hands while he talked to point to a proverbial pond and city site.
“Are you suggesting co-habitation, colonel?” General Ardmore questioned, straightening up a bit.
“Yes I am.” Quaritch nodded, turning a little more professional as he straightened up. “Ma’am.”
“And you want to be the pioneer of that project?” Ardmore raised a brow but the recombinant shook his head.
“Negative, general. As I said, Sully comes first. Yet using this plan, it is simply two birds with one stone.”
Sighing, the general turned to the control panel in front of her, leaning on it as she inwardly conceded, turning back to the colonel. “Alright. What did you say the condition for this was?”
-
Playing with your own fingers by slowly moving and squeezing them, you sat, bored out of your mind. You’d been stuck in this forsaken room for who knows how long. Your thoughts felt slow and you didn’t know what to do. Yet despite all of that, you hadn’t gotten any less alert as you instantly heard the heavier steps approaching.
Moments later, the door opened with a soft hiss and you had a good view of Quaritch crouching through the doorway, both your heights not made for the smaller sized room.
“Afternoon.” He hummed, his posture more relaxed than you’d seen him before and your eyes squinted slightly as you took him in.
Keeping his stance open and relaxed, the colonel analysed you back while the door closed behind him.
You’d gathered yourself at the far wall, curled up on the ground. From his point of view, you were sitting just beside the table, the corner of his mouth lifting just a bit as he thought about it. You looked comically big compared to the table and chair, reminding him of how small Spider had seemed just a few days earlier, fitting perfectly between the furniture. It made sense why you’d chosen the floor and wall over either of the metal contraptions – your knees lifted up as you sat.
If he didn’t already know, it was clear from your outfit that you were a warrior back in your clan, the hunter cummerbund around your midriff and the knife sheath evidence enough. Yet as his eyes moved up, he noticed something very different. Furrowing his brow in confusion, he tapped at the oxygen mask hanging around his neck, seeing it permanently around your mouth.
“Why are you wearing that, darling?”
“It was put on.” You grunted back, seeming unamused by his presence and Quaritch briefly bit the inside of his cheek. He’d been having to do way too much diplomatic talk lately.
“You’re not supposed to keep it on permanently, the battery pack will run out.” Turning slightly, he showed the black device hanging on his hip, tucked into the waistband of his pants.
“It. is. stuck.” You repeated, demonstrating as you lifted your still tied hands up, pushing at the thing yet being unable to budge it even a single bit.
“What goddamn idiot did that?” Huffing in exasperation, Quaritch put his hands on his hips and you were a bit taken aback. “Can I come take it off?”
Swallowing softly, you then nodded, keeping a keen eye as his taller figure approached, crouching down to one knee right after he passed the table, scooting a little bit closer before he motioned you over with a reassuring smile.
Not entirely comfortable, you still did as he said, scooting closer, feeling how cold the floor was now that you were no longer sitting on the part that you’d heated with your own body.
“Thank you.” Quaritch hummed, leaning forward so that he could reach behind your head. Having him at such a vulnerable spot, your eyes were wide while your heart was racing in fight or flight, yet the man worked carefully, un-tying the knot before loosening the straps of the mask.
Leaning back, he then carefully took hold of the mask for you and pulled it down, cringing slightly as it stuck to your face, revealing deep creases in your skin from how tight it had been.
“There.” Smiling a bit at you, the colonel then let go of it, sitting down on the floor as he held up his hands, showing he meant no harm. “I think we got off on the wrong foot.”
“You threatened to kill my family.”
Your deadpan response made Quaritch kiss his teeth, looking down briefly as he grabbed his own mask and took a breath, lowering it back down before sighing out softly. “And that threat still stands.” With his words, he raised an eyebrow while your own brows furrowed, your tail swishing in agitation behind you. “But I have a different proposition.”
Narrowing your eyes, you said nothing but nodded, waiting for him to speak.
“You teach me and my team the Na’vi way, you get us to Jake Sully, and I will make sure any search for the Omaticaya clan stops.” Tilting your head slightly, you looked at the colonel, seeing no deceit in his eyes. “As long as they stop raiding our shipments and trains, I’ll make it so that no one there is in danger anymore. You see, I really don’t wanna hurt kids if I can avoid it.” He smiled slightly, motioning with his right hand.
You were silently for a moment, processing his words. “I teach you and the clan is safe?” You questioned, your eyes taking him in while you thought.
“I swear.” He nodded, that small smile once again present, though you didn’t know what to make of it.
“Why should I trust your words?” You then asked, Quaritch raising his brows as he nodded in thought, slightly looking up at the ceiling.
“That’s a fair question” Looking back down, he then held out his hand for you. “Let me properly introduce myself. My name is Miles Quaritch.” He spoke, pausing for a bit before he continued. “I know I’m a lot of things, but a liar I am not. If you trust me, I will trust you.”
Furrowing your brows in confusion, you looked from him, down to his hand that he reached out for you, only for him to lower his thumb and push up a black device that had been resting in his palm, now held between his fingers – the same one as on the aircraft.
Understanding, you lifted your arms and he put the unlocking mechanism to the cuffs, to which they instantly snapped straight, magnetised to the key and leaving you free to move for the first time in hours.
“You can trust my words. Can I trust you to not kill me or my men first thing?” The colonel asked, leaning forward a bit to look at you with a small, teasing smile.
“Yes.” You breathed softly, pulling your arms back to your chest.
“Well that’s good. Can you tell me your name at least?”
“Y/N.”

The next time Quaritch came to your cell, he had a small shadow.
“Y/N!” Breaking off from the man, Spider jogged over, stopping in front of you with a little smile on his face as he looked up at your standing form.
“You seem happy.” You smiled back, purposefully ignoring the colonel, to which he fully knew that you were doing yet let it happen anyway, simply crossing his arms as he watched you two.
“Happy to finally see someone normal in this place.” Spider joked back and you chuckled, nodding in agreement.
“I’ve never been to a place like this.” You mused, walking over to the table and sitting on top, keeping your back to Quaritch. Spider’s eyes darted to the colonel, failing to stifle a laugh as he took in the man’s annoyed stance and expression, his tail flicking.
“It’s pretty similar to the homes back at the mountains that were built.” The boy then answered, turning back to you, pulling out the chair and jumping to stand on it, making him on eye height with you.
You’d never actually been inside one of the human settlements back at the clan so you’d have to take his word for it, simply humming a bit. Yet with that out of the way, your expression softened slightly as you looked at the striped human in front of you.
“How long have you been here, what happened?” You asked softly, tilting your head a bit, which made some of your braids fall down your shoulder and clack together.
“Asshole over there held me and Jake’s children under gunpoint. There was a fight, they got out. I didn’t.” Spider mumbled, your brows furrowing as you looked at him. He was just a kid still. Human or not, he was alone in a world he shouldn’t be in and a protectiveness flared in your chest – the same that you felt back in the forest when you first spotted him, right before your own capture.
You were about to answer when Quaritch instead stepped up. “I might not be fluent but I have learned some actual Na’vi. Watch what you say about me, kid.”
Immediately, a scowl took over Spider’s face as he – even though he was standing on the chair – looked up at the taller man.
Huffing silently in amusement, you shook your head before taking a breath through your mask while turning to look back at Quaritch. “Can you blame him?”
At that, the colonel smirked a bit at you and shook his head. “I can’t and I don’t. I can still warn him though.”
Puffing out his chest a bit, Spider glared, though you knew it wasn’t truly genuine.
“Anyways, I came to take you out of here.” Quaritch then spoke, resting one hand on his belt nonchalantly while you turned to him in confusion. “We’re rolling out into the forest tomorrow. But given there’s not much of a room or space here to sleep, might as well take you to the barracks and introduce you to the team properly.”
Looking from Quaritch to Spider, the boy smiled encouragingly and you turned on the table, now permanently facing the recom.
“I can even get that checked out for you.” The man pointed at your left arm, where the graze shot still sat, only hastily tied with a cloth before.
“Alright.” You nodded, not particularly feeling like staying in this room.
Smiling slightly, the recom stepped over and you scooted back a bit, your ears angling down in warning. “I need to put this on, sweetheart.” The man hummed, holding up a black circle.
“What is it?” You questioned and Quaritch – embarrassingly enough – felt his ears perk at your accent.
“It’s a tracker. We’re gonna let you out into the forest but we do need a little insurance that you’re not gonna run.” Holding out the device for you, you tentatively took it from him, inspecting the strange looking – metal, you assumed. “It goes around your wrist.” Quaritch then spoke, making you look up and watch as he held his right arm up, wrapping his left hand around his wrist to emphasize.
Making a little disgruntled click with your tongue, you slipped it over your hand on your left arm, only for it to beep softly.
Pulling your hand off of it like it burned you, you watched the small circle unfold, rolling down your wrist and tightening around your flesh, looking more like an arm guard than a bracelet now, covering your entire wrist.
Hissing in surprise, you then snapped a glare up at the colonel who quickly held his hands up. “Need to make sure it stays on. It’s flexible so you can still move just fine.”
Narrowing your eyes, you then glanced down slightly, rolling your wrist a bit before huffing. You were stuck with it now.
“Let’s get going then.”

Tea Party
Luke
"Feast your eyes upon my new creation: the Hallelujah Chocolate Mousse Cake!" I announce to my two esteemed guests and Solomon. "I made some mint tea as well, since it pairs well with chocolate cake."
"It's so beautifully decorated," Simeon compliments as he helps himself to a slice. "These roses you made out of icing look like the real thing."
The truth is, the only reason why I went through all the trouble of preparing a new type of cake is because I overheard Simeon and Solomon talking about having MC over for tea.
Out of everyone involved in the exchange program, they are the one person that doesn't tease me and treat me like a baby. Because I'm not. Yes, I'm still considered a child in the eyes of the Celestial Realm--not even a teenager yet--but that shouldn't give people a free pass to pick on me.
MC seems to be the only one to recognize and respect that. Not even Simeon takes me seriously.
"So, a little birdie told me that you got each of the brothers to give you what they valued most," Simeon says, smiling as he's taking a sip of his tea.
"You really are special to them, aren't you?" Solomon asks MC, mirroring Simeon's expression. MC calmly nods their head.
"It would appear so, yes." They set their plate down on the coffee table and clasp their hands together, resting them on their lap. "It might be weird for me to say, but I'm not sure how I feel about that."
"Because they're demons?" I ask. Simeon shoots me a stern look, but MC maintains their composure.
"They're not just any demons, Luke. They are the Avatars of Sin. To know that they care so deeply about me...well, it's a bit daunting."
"Do you not think you're worthy?" Simeon has a curious look on his face, almost as if he's testing MC. They shake their head.
"It's not that. Not entirely." MC takes a deep breath. "By accepting the power that has been granted to me, I've made myself a target. If someone wanted to, they could use me to hurt the people I care about. Not just the brothers, but you guys, too."
Silence.
Judging by the look on Simeon and Solomon's faces, they had no idea that MC felt that way.
However, this isn't news to me. I've sensed these emotions in MC all along.
I initially didn't understand why we were heading to the Devildom, but I knew Simeon's explanation was false. And then, as Barbatos sent the two of us away to Purgatory Hall, I saw it for the first time: a dark, faceless, shadowy figure hovering around MC.
I didn't tell anyone about it, because I knew they would have dismissed it as an illusion, a trick of the light. But I know it was real, because even in the most well-lit rooms, it was right there alongside MC.
And it was trying to swallow them up.
Whether that was a manifestation of their magic or their emotions, I don't think I'll ever know. I often get shut away from those type of conversations because people think I'm too young to understand.
But now they have the Ring of Light to protect them. That should be enough, right?
There's a part of me that doesn't think so. I've been wondering why I was able to see the shadowy figure, so in my spare time, I've done some research, and I keep coming to the same conclusion.
As MC excuses themselves and heads out of Purgatory Hall, I know that now's the time to ask them. Otherwise, who knows when I'll get another opportunity?
Thankfully, I have a legitimate reason to follow MC, for I have an appointment with Barbatos at the Demon Lord's castle.
