Hi, haven't posted any drawings in years. Since I've been binge watching anime lately, I decided to draw a more mature Gon Freecss😊 from Hunter x Hunter.
Personally I need more daily practice with drawing hands and proportions, I'm both satisfied and dissatisfied with this, but it's progress and I had fun drawing him, hope y'all dig it 🤷‍♀️☄

on a more serious note, there's no reason to gatekeep the Vulture Community. there's a reason there's been healthy debates about ethics for years. when it gets down to it, something you're not comfortable with, someone else is likely just fine with.
to be more specific, hunting. I'm getting this year's stock in next week - crows, pheasants, some ducks! these are all byproducts of various hunts. sometimes for food, sometimes pest control. I've gotten into eating game. I plan to get into hunting my own game, too, and hopefully breed meat rabbits and chickens. animals sourced from deliberate killings aren't favoured by everyone, and that's okay! which is why I'm honest about sources for every specimen. but the moment you try to push those views to a definition for a diserse community of scientists, hobbyists, witches, and yes, hunters? you lose credibility.
who's to say a pheasant shot for food is any less moral than a pheasant hit by a car? the former bird is more likely to have had a very quick death, and more often than not I have to find specific people for game stocks as carcasses are fed to dogs and ferrets. no waste. the latter has a good chance of being clipped on the back and shattering a leg, slowly dying, then I may not find it fast enough to take much more than the skull. some food for thought.
death is not bad for animals. its not sad, or evil, or heartless. it just is. it matters not to them how they die or where they go. we know this more than anyone else. so here's to all vultures who exclusively work with roadkill, or those who only buy skulls, or those who's collection is only a couple feathers, and to those who save the bones of animals theyve killed to eat. death makes the world go around, and hunters aren't our enemies.

✰- Paring -✰ Chrollo X Reader
✰- Summary -✰ Your grandfather recently passed away leaving you a mysterious old book. Now you’re out to find someone who can tell you anything about it.
✰ - TW(s)- ✰ Death of a Family Member, OCCness, Really just Fluff
✰ - Note- ✰ Sorry if Chrollo comes off as a little OCC. I liked the concept and wanted to write a lighter piece with him.
✰ - Word Count- ✰ 2032
Tumblr media
You weren’t very close to your father’s family. In all fairness you weren’t close to any of your family, but you were all the sort to at least gather for funerals. That dreary fall afternoon spent watching your paternal grandfather’s casket lowering into the ground actually felt quite uneventful. Some part of you felt pretty guilty for not being more upset. Judging by the crowd of so called mourners you likely weren’t alone in feeling that way. Your own father too busy to attend the procession himself. Busy with whatever a prohunter does. He’d made some remark about gramps “understanding” when you’d asked over the phone if he’d be there. After all, grampa was a pro too once, but he was old and forgotten about it seems. Maybe all his colleagues simply died before he did. If not they hadn’t cared to be there either.
The daunting task of both organizing the funeral and making sure the will was properly executed went to you. The funeral was a bit tricky, but the will was simple enough actually. All his funds were left to some charity that you'd never heard of and the estate and everything inside had been left to you. Grandpa must have been fully aware that if left to his only child the government would have ended up with all his belongings. Going through everything in preparation to sell the home was beyond tedious. Your own residence was across the country and you weren’t about to just move in there. After separating everything you actually wanted to keep your father got you in contact with an appraiser. Nearly everything went smoothly from there. Except for one thing. An old book marked as junk caught your eye. It’s handmade leather bindings so ornate you felt like the appraiser must have told you to throw it out so he could go back out into the trash and get it for himself. So you brought it back to him again. This time he assured you the book was worth nothing. The house eventually sold. You moved back home, but the book still had its hold on you. Already having spent a couple nights thumbing through it. Not that it was much use at all with it being written in another language. It felt silly but the book had no title on the front and you were almost desperate to know anything about it. January rolled around and you’d made it your New Year’s resolution to dig up some information on it, and if possible read a translation.
That seemed simple enough. Figuring that this was likely beyond your local library’s capabilities you called up your father. He seemed genuinely excited that you were so invested in it in the first place. “The joy of discovering something new is the highlight of being alive” and all that. Giving you the name of some literature specialists that he’d found. Only one was a prohunter on the list, and initially you figured this was pretty below his pay grade. You giddily called the specialist nearest to you and set up a time to meet them at their office.
The stuffy old man looked over the cover and flipped through it a bit, but was unable to tell you much more than that it was “certainly aged.” He wasn’t able to tell you much more. So you started going down your list until the only remaining option was the prohunter who was too busy to meet with you. One of the previous specialists did give you one other option though; a Mr.Lucilfer. According to the information given to you he had no office and was “difficult” to get ahold of, but he had been highly recommended. The only contact information you were given was an email address. About a week after you reached out you got a response.
“I may have time in June at Zaban City. I hope that isn’t too far out of the way for you.”
It certainly lacked professionalism, but it hardly mattered to you anymore. You set up a date, time and location. He’d chosen a quaint coffee shop for the two of you to meet at around three in the afternoon. You’d arrived early though. Partly due to being in a new city and not knowing the exact time you’d arrive from your hotel room, but you had to admit it was mostly because of nerves. Where things stood currently if he couldn’t help you then you’d wasted a good chunk of time and money. You were lifted from your thoughts when a man in a beanie and large ripple print jacket walked in. The jacket looked fairly fancy for a small coffee shop. Part of you wondered if that was your Mr.Lucilfer. It was still about fifteen minutes early so you weren’t certain. He walked up to the counter and ordered a black coffee. Making small talk with the barista who was clearly fawning over him a bit too much. You figured he wasn’t your man. He was too young. Must be a regular or something. Right then the barista walked off to prepare his order and he turned to make eye contact with you.
You felt your cheeks flush as you realized you’d been caught red handed staring at some guy for longer than you had any reason too. He sent you a gentle grin though as he took his coffee and began waltzing over. Fully resigned to your fate you put on a brave face, tilted your chin up, and prepared yourself to deal with some hipster trying to flirt with you after awkwardly catching you staring at him.
“I’m very sorry if I was disturbing you. I didn’t mean to stare.”
“Oh me? Hardly.” He replied before extending out a hand. “I’m Chrollo Lucilfer. If I’m not mistaken you must be [Name].” You let out a small sigh. The normality of the greeting seemed tou ease your nerves. You took a moment, but surely enough you took his hand and shook it. Quickly taking it back afterwards. “So you brought it?” He casually asked as he slid into the booth opposite of you.
“Yes! One moment.” You fumbled with your bag for a moment. Pulling out the old leather book and laying it down on the table and nudging it towards him.
“Let’s see here…” He opened it up and began flipping through idly before stopping and staring intently, focusing on one page. “Ah I see why they had so much trouble. Fascinating really.” He began flipping through the pages now as if he were reading.
“Are you really able to determine what language it’s in and maybe even translate it?” You leaned in excitedly. Finally someone was able to help you. He chuckled at your enthusiasm.
“It’s not really in some forigen language. I guess you could call it a code only accessible to pro hunters and a handful of knowledgeable people.”
“Are you able to translate that code?” You’re excitement getting more and more difficult to contain.
“Hmmm I might not have the time to rewrite all of this into something you could read. What I can tell you is that it seemed to be a journal. I don’t see a name though…”
“It must have been my grandpa. He was a prohunter so that must be why he wrote it in that code.” You paused thinking for a moment. “Is there any chance you could write out a guide for decoding it or is that too secret or something?” You frowned.
“No, unfortunately it doesn’t quite work like that.” He was continuing to flip through pages as if he were reading. “How’d you get your hands on this anyways? You said it was your granddad’s?”
“Yeah.” You signed. “He left it to me along with his other belongings. Is there really no way I’d be able to read it?”
“Sorry it’s kind of a steep learning curve.” He set the book down. Having to admit to himself that something about your persistence was kind of cute in a way that bothered him. As if you were working your way under his skin with each bit of excitement you’d had until your hopes had been dashed. There was no way he’d be teaching a random girl nen for the soul purpose of being able to eventually use gyo to read the “code” the book had been written in. Truth of the matter was that it wasn’t even a code. It was just gibberish that when looked at with gyo became simple to read. A basic party trick. The fascinating part was how you’d gotten your hands on what could be useful information. If the old Hunter had taken the time to use nen on the book perhaps there was mentions of treasure or some power within. You were wrapped in your own thoughts as he mulled over how he’d try to convince you to let him take it after he’d already stupidly said he wouldn’t be able to translate it for you. Remembering that you’d mentioned in an email not wanting to mail it off to some prohunter who might lose it or never get around to doing anything with it.
“I’m sorry.” You spoke, pulling him back down to earth. “If you don’t have time to translate it do you think, I mean if possible, you could read just a little of it to me. My grandpa was really important to me and it would mean so much. I know it’s a lot to ask though.” You’d officially made it under his skin and he cursed himself for how easily you did. He couldn’t remember a time when he’d been suckered by puppy dog eyes like this. Maybe it was just the desperation in your voice and the way you pleaded. He was the only person who could help you.
“Sure I might be able to read a bit of it to you, and if you’re okay with it I could take it with me and try to translate what’s left before sending it back while I work.” He confidently offered. Figuring it was worth trying to offer translating as you did seem desperate. Desperate enough that you’d let this stranger run off with it. As for reading it to you it wouldn’t be such a big deal. He’d help some poor girl get some closer on her dead granddad before making off with the book. Seemed like a win win.
“Oh thank you so much! I really can’t thank you enough.” You beamed at him.
“It’s no problem. So I’m guessing I should start from the beginning.” He flipped to the first page and you sat expectantly. Spending longer than he thought he would reading the entries to you. Enjoying your commentary about your grandpa’s exploits and the bit of banter you two were beginning to share. You asked how he’d gotten into his line of work and he laughed a bit.
“It’s just a hobby really. I do all sorts of things, but I guess you could say I enjoy hunting down a good book.” You smiled at that.
Eventually however he realized he had to get going. He really had spent much longer than anticipated with you.
“Aw well thank you for your help.” You pouted a bit.
“Really it’s no problem. I actually really enjoyed it.” He actually regretted that he hadn’t devoted a couple more days to spend in Zaban.
“I enjoyed it too.” You said softly. He looked down at your soft lips and hummed to himself. Thinking of the way you’d leaned in so intent on his reading the entire night. “Okay well, goodbye then Mr.Lucilfer.” You waved as you left the shop. He stood there looking at the door you’d left through for a moment. Then he realized you’d taken the book with you at some point. He cursed himself.
A couple days later he got an email regarding when he’d be available again. Maybe it hadn’t been such a bad thing that he hadn’t secured the book, after all, you’d never actually promised to let him take it in the first place.
