there’s a trend on the show (especially in the 4th season) where ladybug will disregard chat noir’s emotions and continue to push him away even though he’s told her before that it makes him feel bad.

she can acknowledge his hurt and apologize and try to make him feel better, but eventually, the same problem of chat noir feeling as if he’s not really a trusted and equal partner of ladybug repeats again. and while it’s understandable why ladybug still has an insistence to rely solely on herself or to rely less on chat noir, it’s also important to see WHY it keeps happening on chat’s side.

adrien comes from a household where he has to continually forgive his father over and over again whenever his father disappoints and disregards him. it’s to the point where adrien doesn’t feel like he can stand up to his father about what he wants. BUT! it’s adrien’s complicated relationship with his dad which explains why he keeps forgiving ladybug again and again (even when there’s no change in ladybug’s actions). on one hand, he completely adores her so he can overlook a few grievances. but on the other, he’s just been raised to forgive without really addressing the extent of his pain. so it’s this cycle of being hurt, forgiving, hoping that ladybug/his dad will change (disclaimer: which is not to say that the way ladybug treats him is the equivalent to the abuse he experiences from his dad), and being hurt again.

again, i need to STRESS that ladybug is completely valid in her fears and the way she treats chat noir makes sense. in NO way does ladybug abuse chat noir. but it’s just interesting to note how adrien’s relationship with his dad has shaped how he deals with conflict. i feel like season 4’s finale is a culmination of ladybug’s fears coming true, and hopefully it’s in season 5 that we see some character growth for both ladybug and chat noir. it’s when ladybug finally lets chat noir in about chat blanc and allows him to share her burdens that the duo can grow stronger. and it’s when chat noir can effectively hold ladybug accountable that he can also find the courage to stand up to his father as well.

Chapter summary:

3. Girl Repellent

For the first time maybe ever, Adrien did not want to go to school.

He wasn’t sure he could handle it today. The whispering. The speculation. The gossip. (Apparently, Marinette and Chat Noir already had a couple name—“Marichat.” Which sort of made him want to use his aqua powerup and go live in the ocean forever, never to be seen again.)

He did not think he could sit through another lunch hour of Nino doing terrible impressions of Chat Noir asking Marinette out (“Marinette, you are the purr-tiest baker girl I’ve ever seen. Will you paw-lease do me the honor of being my girl-fur-end? You batter not say no or you’ll totally bake my heart. Meow, meow, meow.”) And he definitely didn’t want to hear more of Nino’s theories about what the girls were talking about without them. (“I bet Marinette’s telling Alya about their first kiss. Wait … do you think Chat Noir kisses like a person or a cat? Like, would he lick her face? Or bite her?”)

Frankly, he wanted to die just thinking about it.

My favourite cartoon ships 2.0!

1. Broppy, Branch and Queen Poppy, Trolls

Such an adorable couple with highly entertaining interactions, anything from bickering to heartfelt encouragement. Great yin and yang with very opposite yet very compatible personalities. These two truly have changed each other’s lives for the better, bring out the best in each other, and would do anything for each other - you can’t have one without the other. I’m not much into reading fanfics in general, but have read all kinds of Broppy ones! Hopefully we’ll get another special and series!

2. Elixie, Eli Shane and Trixie Sting, Slugterra

Close friends who are always there for each other, loyal teammates who work really well together, who both pester and support one another. Cute interactions that, to me, give the vibe that they could become more than friends in the future. I don’t know, there’s just something about them that catches my attention, so many options for fanfics!

3. Embade (not sure if there’s a ship name for them yet), Wade Ripple and Ember Lumen, Elemental

About as opposite as two people can be! I fell in love with these two immediately - their dynamic is highly entertaining, being fire and water they have unique interactions no other couple could have, their dance scene / first touch gives me butterflies, their first date is the cutest thing ever, and I like how it wasn’t ‘love at first sight’ - they got to know each other first, then fell in love, and they really improved each other’s lives.

4. The Love Square (Adrinette, Ladynoir, Marichat, Ladrien), Adrien Agreste / Chat Noir and Marinette Dupain-Cheng / Ladybug, Miraculous Ladybug

Four ships in one, so lots of options for different fun stories between the characters! I’ve read a few neat fan-comics of them, their varying dynamics are always interesting. This ship also moved down my favourites list, because I personally thought their ‘just friends’ status dragged on too long in canon.

5. Simonette, Simon Seville and Jeanette Miller, ALVINNN!!!

Close friends who have similar hobbies and compatible personalities, I love the episodes where they interact, especially helping each other on projects or just hanging out. They would make an adorable couple, I’d love to see them on a sweet little date. I’m not a huge fan of the CGI movies, but I watch Chipwrecked solely for their interactions.

6. Guep (no solid decent ship name for them so I’m going with this), Guy and Eep Crood, The Croods

I love the fact that she’s stronger and bigger than him, and far from a typical girly girl, it makes a unique and unconventional couple. Also, they take care of each other, it’s never one-sided (the macho guy rescuing the dainty damsel, or the powerful woman rescuing the weak guy).

7. Eugunzel, Eugene Fitzherbert and Princess Rapunzel, Tangled

Tons of excellent interactions in the series, a healthy relationship and another couple who has given each other better lives. She’s not the typical dependent princess, but not an overly powerful female either, just the perfect balance. And like Guep, he rescues her, and she rescues him; both have strengths and weaknesses, making them a very realistic pair.

8. Hiccstrid, Hiccup Haddock and Astrid Hofferson, How To Train Your Dragon

Another couple where she’s the stronger one. I like their teamwork and interactions - even though she’s much bolder than him, she respects his leadership and is loyal to him. At the same time, he respects her and is open to her suggestions.

9. Jilaire, Jim Lake Jr. and Claire Nunez, Trollhunters

Their development from barely friends to a close couple was natural and realistic. There is literally nothing these two wouldn’t do for each other (Jim risking his life and breaking the law to save Claire’s brother, Claire fully accepting Jim no matter what physical form he’s in)

10. Snowlin, Prince Merlin and Princess Snow White, Red Shoes and the Seven Dwarves

Excellent messages about true beauty. The rare movie relationship where the main female does not represent ideal beauty standards, yet still ends up in a happy relationship. These two learned to truly love each other for who they are on the inside, regardless of their appearance, and will surely stick by each other’s sides no matter what.

I don’t know if I can even express how much I hate miraculous season 5? Like words just don’t exist to express the depth of my disappointment and anger at that cluster fuck? Like, when season 4 was coming out I wasn’t exactly happy with all the choices they were making but season 5 is just… gods it sucks so bad! I mean, Luka is easily my favorite character in the show but after Truth I was just like ??????????? the fuck you doing? It’s like Luka became popular with fans and for some reason they decided to just retcon the fuck outa him and Juleka? They’re twins now? No! Luka is the cool older brother! He has a bit more experience and maturity so he can understand Marinette but also understands when she’s being immature and ridiculous because that’s what happens at that age! Also great to see a non-nuclear family with a single mother and two kids with different fathers. The Coufaines are a much more positive representation of an atypical family dynamic than the Bourgeois family. Their all white and snobbish and damaged and they don’t love or support one another. Totally realistic and good to represent the struggles of different kinds of people, including those with privilege but it’s a pretty negative view and the Coufaines made sure kids watching the show could see how loving families can come in all shapes and sizes. Of course this was all before Chloé’s redemption arc was slashed to pieces.

And they sent Luka away!? And they started being open about hero identities like Alix? And suddenly Kagami’s mom is a villain? And Gabriel isn’t just insane with grief and power but it was all an evil plot from the start? What is even happening with anything?!?!?!?!?!?! Talk about losing the plot oh my fucking god!

Oh! And! They made Marichat canon but they took everything that made it great away?! Like, Marichat was great because neither of them were aware that they liked each other! They were able to be themselves and relax without trying to impress their crush. They both already saw one another as friends but couldn’t let the other know. It was sweet and fun and they were each other’s safe place and then they just took everything I hate about Adrinette and Ladynoir and projected it onto Marichat and UURRGHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

Fuck Miraculous seasons 4 and 5. Fuck miracle queen too. As far as I’m concerned Miraculous got tragically cancelled after season 3 episode 23.

It’s just her luck that she’s trying out with Adrien, who she can barely get a sentence out around. So when she’s told to improv the heroes’ patrol night she does the easiest thing– and repeats exactly what Chat Noir said to her on patrol last night.

My thoughts: look, I’m a sucker for identity reveals in kinda stupid ways and this fic is one of the best imo. I genuinely go back and reread this one on a regular basis

A Rational Fear of Dragons by orphan_account | 4k

When Kim gets paired with Marinette for a history project, he learns a lot, though most of it has nothing to do with their project.

My thoughts: unfortunately, the author has deactivated but this fic is still a good read. I always like fics from an outsider’s perspective and this one does it really well. I especially like Kim and Marinette’s relationship in this.

My thoughts: alright, this one is mine. I tend not to like when ppl rec their own works so apologies if you’re the same but I’m really proud of it. It’s still unfinished but its fully planned out and I’m slowly but surely getting there.

My thoughts: this one is rated Teen on AO3 but I'd just say that there is quite a bit of sexual discussion so if you're sensitive to that then maybe skip this one? But this one was really good. It's one I've read more recently and I really enjoyed it (hence why it got the favourite star). It's on the longer side for a oneshot but the pacing is So Good. It's another identity reveal fic (look most fics I read will be identity reveal fics coz they're my fave) but it also has some really good Marichat close/flirty friendship (my favourite side of the love square and one of my favourite dynamics)

☆ drowning in plain sight by buggachat | 73k

My thoughts: buggachat is a staple of this fandom for a reason. This fic is incredible. I think I read it in one sitting? Or thereabouts anyway. I really like sentimonster!Adrien fics and this one was especially good

My thoughts: yes its another buggachat rec. I actually read this one first before realising it was by buggachat and loved it. Once again, I am a fan of identity reveals. Also I will forever find it amusing that both of them wrote the room off and yet both end up immediately using it

☆ The Messenger by CassarillaDraws | 5k

In a recent conversation Ladybug had jokingly suggested to Chat Noir that if Alya knew both of their identities they could contact each other through her. When Marinette shares this conversation with her best friend, Alya thinks it's an idea that they should consider for real. Since it's about his identity, the final decision is left up to Chat Noir. But he'll have plenty of opportunities to talk to Alya, since Ladybug has the flu, and she's filling in as Scarabella.

My thoughts: I love stories where Alya finds out both of them and is then just watching the sitch and sighing heavily. The identity reveal in this one is really good and kinda emotional and I love it

My thoughts: idk if I can rec this coz I technically haven’t finished this one yet. I was reading it as it was coming out and I remember it being really good (I believe if you look hard enough, theres a comment somewhere which says I almost missed my bus coz I was reading the update). I ended up busy and didn’t have time to keep reading it as it updated but I remember really enjoying what I read and I do plan on actually finishing it eventually. This one has been a bit of a staple rec recently so you can also have it from me too lol.

From memory, this one deserves to be in my favourites but given I haven’t finished it yet, I’m gonna leave it starless for now. But just so you know, its good

The thing is, Alya just had the bright idea for the four of them to go play with puppies. He can handle that, right? Turns out, he can't, and that results in Marinette finally connecting the dots.

My thoughts: very short, very sweet. Adrienino is usually not a ship I read that often but I loved the dynamic in this and it made me desperate to read some more polycule!core four. Alas, it appears there really isn't much atm. I love the final scene so much

My thoughts: I adore fics where LB and CN are genuinely close friends even without knowing each others identities and I also love identity reveals (one-sided but still). This fic is a win-win!
