Project 3: Imaginary trip through time

The inspiration and how I did the project it is in the Youtube video (sorry I could not upload it on the blog) but I have not done it the way I wanted to present it. I will create a papyrus roll.

I also think that something similar can be done but I think I should find a better way to present it that can stand alone.

Add other media to see how it works with coloured pencils because I think this is my favourite way of working on this type of project.

Ideas that came from this project

17th-century travel books were full of myths and stories that we do know now not to be accurate and probably were just legends. I think it will be lovely to work on things like that.

Related to the previous one. I would like to explore mythical creatures. 

On a more serious note. I have been thinking about oppression and inequality in the centuries where these books take form. On the pages, we can see slavery, exploitation, discrimination, and objectification as we understand it now. I want to do some research and create a piece of work that reflects this part of history that is not often talked about in Hispano America.

Project3 process note

When I first started this unit, I found myself struggling with the complex introductions, unsure where to begin my thought process. This led to procrastination. But with the help of Julia, I regained confidence and began to find entry points to my essay. At the beginning of the project, I spent almost every day contemplating which questions would be talked about for the research. After reading the assigned texts, I delved into additional literature. Eventually, I chose to focus on the influence of celebrity culture and mass media.

There are several reasons why I chose this topic: Firstly, it fits the requirements of the project. It encompasses guiding questions from Derek Tompson on the impact of social media, Hines on the celebrity effect and the culture of sad girls, and Thelandersson on the commodification of sadness in sad girl culture. So that I could systematically study these issues by integrating the questions posed by these three authors. Secondly, this topic is highly relevant to everyone's daily lives. The influence of celebrity culture and mass media on societal values and cultural norms is immense. Moreover, the emotional expressions and manipulations often appearing in mass media significantly affect individual emotional well-being. Furthermore, the celebrity effect plays a crucial role in shaping personal identity and self-perception. Understanding the relationship between the celebrity effect, mass media, emotional health, and self-identity is vital for personal and societal development.

In the initial stages of my research, I explored the deeper meanings of the sad girl culture and studied a series of music videos by Lana Del Rey, a figure I selected to understand the public's definition of a sad girl. Subsequently, I examined the characteristics of mass media, discovering the proportional relationship between its development and celebrity influence. I then focused on how mass media correlates with the development of self-concepts in adolescents, supported by findings from an academic paper on the significance of adolescent idol worship in self-concept development. Additionally, I discussed how the celebrity effect contributes to the glamorization and commercialization of sadness, exploited for profit in the market. Later, I analyzed the pros and cons of the dissemination of sad culture on social media, linking it to theories of self-identity and recognizing the impact of mass media on psychological well-being.In the end, I called for influential figures to promote more positive emotional expressions through mass media and to guide healthy social media usage.

Upon completing this unit's project, I felt a sense of achievement. Firstly, I was able to organize my divergent thoughts and write a logical article through continuous perseverance and effort, marking significant progress for me. Secondly, I learned how to integrate academic papers from peer review into my article to enhance its persuasiveness. Lastly, thanks to the professor's understanding, I transformed from a procrastinator, indecisive, and perfectionist into a more motivated and confident learner. 

However, my writing process still needs improvement. Because in the initial stages, I read extensively to stimulate my writing inspiration and broaden my perspective on various aspects related to the topic, but this decreased my efficiency and delayed my research. I hope to improve my writing process in future projects by determining my research direction earlier and conducting more in-depth research on selected topics.

After researching the theme of sadness in this unit, I had a deeper understanding of the previous unit's theme of happiness. I realized that in this era dominated by mass media, emotions are sometimes forced upon us. Merely understanding the value of happiness is not enough; people also need to think independently to resist the invisible "emotional weapons" prevalent in this media-dominated age. Only by critically assessing the information on social media can people better protect themselves from being overwhelmed by the inundation of information and from being manipulated by others' negative emotions.

Project 3: Concertina

I love this sketchbook. I want to say that I play the changing of colour beforehand but it is just not true. It felt right at the moment to move forward with it. 

It was very interesting to reinterpret the book in front of me. Changing colours, and creating a different atmosphere were crucial. 

For other projects

Used concertinas. I think this long format works well for me. I am not sure why

Reflect on your  blog posts this semester. Summarize the arc of your understanding of course themes. In what ways have your knowledge and perspective changed? What will you do with this new awareness?

I think the blog post of this semester is helpful for the way we think about the course. In the semester, we learned about how to co-create with the communities.

The readings and the project3 we have designed are all the And for the 5 steps we have read, it said about the abandon, prepare, engage, co-create and evaluate. When I wrote my assignment3, I use it in the co-create part. I think for me, at first, I didn't understand what can be a co-create, what's the difference between co-create and cooperate. But then I realized for a community and museum, co-creation is what builds their connection, and for community, only the co-creation can make them gain the things/knowledge they want to know. We need to really not always think about how we want it to be, but also always give this right to the community and hear their voice.

For this change of thoughts, I think I still need to continue learning, to know more about co-creation, and make sure I can do the real co-create with community, not just seems like co-create with them, but actually is me always decide what I need to do. and I should always hear the community's voice, accept everything and consider about that.

Overall, all the blog posts I did this semester was helping me think more deeply and thinking with a purpose. These helped me have a better understanding of every weeks readings and also the help me figure out my mind in my heart.
