Protean Anagram Solutions

When I started making proteans last summer, I decided to name them all after a person, shuffling the letters in the name to make an anagram. I challenged my followers to figure out who each protean was named after.

So here's the solutions. Some of these people got when the monsters were originally posted. Others I got no replies on.

The temortanga, protean of fashion, was named after Stefani Germanotta, aka Lady Gaga

The alengos, protean of plant life and ecology, was named after Henry Gleason, an ecologist who argued against a universal "climax community" and that every ecosystem had a unique balance of plant life.

The ricretillo, protean of weather, air and water, was named after Evangelista Torricelli, who invented the barometer and was the first to explain how winds form from differences in air pressure and temperature.

The cthilpuk, protean of emotions and moods, was named after Robert Plutchik, who created a psychological classification for emotions.

The yexhul, protean of evolution and animal life, was named after the Huxley clan, particularly Thomas Henry Huxley, first generation evolutionary biologist, and his grandsons Julian (a eugenicist) and Aldous (who parodied eugenics in Brave New World as a dig at his brother).

The heputwisa, protean of conspiracies and lies, was named after Adam Weishaupt, founder of the Bavarian Illuminati.

The renegwe, protean of plate tectonics, earth and fire was named after Alfred Wegener, proponent of continental drift

shape of the beast lessons with Aiden and Eli !

she coyote ! After attempting to return back to the customer service job she had in life, Aiden had a small frenzy moment in the pub toilets. It left her with beastial features trapped, unable to sneak out without an entire pub's worth of kine seeing her half-coyote frenzied self. Some well-timed protean lessons were in order. After which some running in the park to eat squirrels and showing her off to everyone

Feykiller (Hunter Archetype)

  While there are plenty of heroes that gain blessings from the fey, or perhaps even befriend them, there are those that fight against them as well.

Whether it be because the fey in a region are particularly harmful or evil, or are corrupted by a malevolent force, or because the hunter in question just has a personal vendetta, there are those that train to resist the trickery of the fey and strike back against them.

We’ve seen similar archetypes before, such as the Defenders of the True World, but now we are looking at a hunter that does something similar.

This archetype does hearken back to the blighted fey created by the Darkblight, a supernatural fungal infection caused by the depredations of the Demon Lord Cyth-V’sug and his cultists in the Fangwood in Nirmathas, but anywhere where fey exist one might find this archetype, hunting or defending against the fair folk, whether they are evil or not. Indeed, With the Darkblight defeated, the tradition is more likely to arise in other places with hostile fey now.

Regardless of origin, these “feykillers” are specialists against an insidious and tricky foe.

 These hunters call upon a different set of animals for their foci compared to other hunters. They can call upon the cunning of the crow to better recognize their foes, the stubbornness of the goat to protect their minds, the serpent-hunting ways of the mongoose to resist poison, the blood scent of the shark to track fleeing prey, and the armored shell of the turtle for more traditional defense.

Through sacred rituals, these fey-slayers infuse the power of cold iron into the form of their companions, starting with one, then affecting them all, turning their beast into a lethal destroyer of fey.

Their companion also bolsters their thoughts and minds with their company, helping them resist the magic of the fey.

This expands further to other enchatments and illusions as well, and their companion later wards them entirely against such effects from the fey.

Most of the changes this archetype makes are actually to animal companion abilities rather than their own, which can make it nearly impossible to combine with an animal companion archetype. That being said, it does mean your specialization against the fey doesn’t prevent you from being a competent hunter in other areas. Indeed, you’re free to build them mostly as you see fit, so if your campaign promises to include a lot of fey foes, this archetype could be very good indeed.

 Even if your character doesn’t have any personal vendetta against the fey, they must have a reason for doing what they do. This may vary between having a vendetta against a certain court of fey, trying to clear out the “Unseelie”, or perhaps being some sort of fey-hunting mercenary.

  The locahthah are ordinarily a peaceful people that do not seek violence needlessly. Gogoach is no ordinary locathah. For years he has trained himself to slay and resist fey with his octopus companion, all to hunt down and slay the oceanid that rules over the sea he calls home. Exactly why he is pursuing such a bloodthirsty act is anyone’s guess.

 The feykillers of Blaxxon are exactly what they sound like, soldiers trained to hunt down and slay the fey that resist the empires continued expansion into the wild places of the world. How they maintain natural magics despite their hand in blighting it is anyone’s guess, but some suspect a dark natural power of wastelands and death empowers them.

 When strange chaotic magical events are sighted, the council calls in specialists in the fey to deal with the problem. However, they have not reported back, and the chaos has only gotten worse. In truth, the fey are not responsible at all. Instead, a protean cult has sprung up, seeking to shatter the order with wild magic and conjured ourdivar proteans as shock troops.

[My final original species of protean, this time embodying plate tectonics as a manifestation of change. I knew I wanted to do a continental drift-themed protean, and this was one of the first art pieces I found when embarking on this project. As a reminder, all of my protean species have a name that's an anagram. I'll be posting the solutions to those at the end of the week.]

Protean, Renegwe CR 19 CN Outsider (extraplanar) This massive creature appears like a snake with a humanoid torso, its body composed of black volcanic rock. A snort hood grows between its head and neck, and a pair of horns like bent stalagmites grows from its head. It shimmers with heat.

A renegwe is a protean devoted to some of the most dramatic changes in the cosmos—plate tectonics. Renegwes are the shepherds of whole continents, observing them move over the course of thousands or millions of years, and steering them if their whims dictate they speed up or slow down. Rather than the immediate thrills of transforming a person into an animal, or the destruction of killing enemies and overthrowing governments, renegwes prefer the gradual pleasures of growing mountains, eroding canyons and rock formation. That is not to say that they cannot be dramatic—a renegwe who grows bored with a landmass’ progress might start earthquakes with magic, or heat up a lava reservoir to re-activate a dormant volcano. 

Few renegwes care much about the short lives of humanoids directly, but may become territorial of particular mineral deposits and protect them from mining or other exploitation. They might also come into conflict with magical creatures that seek to stop or mitigate the destruction their earthquakes and volcanoes engender. A renegwe prefers to fight atop or within a solid surface—although they can fly, they feel much more comfortable when touching earth or stone. Renegwes spew lava from their mouths and can fire exploding boulders from their hands. They have relatively few spell-like abilities compared to other proteans, and prefer simple melee tactics to pitched battles at a distance. 

Renegwes are more common outside the Maelstrom than in it. They dwell mostly deep underground on planets of the Material Planes, or in places where the Planes of Earth and Fire overlap. From these magma-rich bastions, they may plot against the shaitans and efreeti—both of these genies types are lawful, and seek to impose order where the renegwes prefer chaos. Renegwes are natural allies of magma dragons, but these allegiances may be fractious and marked by power struggles. Few renegwes have much interest in the politics of the protean choirs, but may work for a given protean lord on a temporary basis when their interests overlap. The protean lord most sympathetic to the renegwes is Etna, herself a being of volcanic power.

Special Abilities Breath Weapon (Su) Any creature that takes damage from a renegwe’s breath weapon is coated in lava, taking 10d6 points of fire damage for the next 1d3 rounds (no save). Change Shape (Su) A renegwe can change shape at will, but does not gain the healing from changing shape as is typical for proteans. It can only assume the form of dragons or elementals with the earth or fire subtypes. Earth Mastery (Ex) When both a renegwe and its opponent are touching the ground, the renegwe gains a +1 bonus on attack and damage rolls. Fiery Body (Ex) A renegwe’s body is blazing hot. It deals 2d6 points of fire damage with all of its natural attacks, and any creature striking it with a melee touch attack, natural weapon or unarmed strike takes 2d6 points of fire damage. Lava Bombs (Su) As a standard action, a renegwe can fire two lava bombs, one from each hand. Each lava bomb is treated as a ranged touch attack with a range of 200 feet and no range incremenent. A creature struck takes 4d6 points of bludgeoning damage and 2d6 fire, and then the lava bomb explodes, dealing 10d6 points of fire damage in a 40 foot radius (Reflex DC 29 half). If a creature is in the radius of both lava bombs, it makes a single save at a -4 penalty, and treats the fire damage as coming from a single source. A renegwe can use its lava bombs once every 1d4 rounds. The save DC is Charisma based.

Alrighty! Pretty quick progress on this drive! Already well into 7 bonk territory! And now that the first poll is done, decisively making me a pooltoy, it's time to spice it up a bit! Link to the main post (here)

The rest of the polls will only be one day in length, and the drive will end sooner that originally intended, but how much sooner is yet to be decided (probably at least a week out, will update main post when decided). That being said it's time to pick out a side effect!

so i could lie and say something like the colour and more complete the images represent how free she feels in that moment and while it fits its kinda just a happy accident and i just wanted to test colours for the beast forms and transformation effects but here is Sabrina first time using Protean beast forms, shes locked to bat and wolf cos shes a tzimisce but those are the forms she would have chosen anyway also her first magic transformation, well at least one that's not body horror also i still don't know if she can here her music in the beast forms, cos clothes and stuff disappear and come back dose the music keep playing in her ears magically or is it just gone ?
