happy black history month <3
i am black and grateful that this is the reality i live every day.
coming onto tumblr and creating this blog was a way for me to express myself and my thoughts in a way that made sense and has felt safe. and has also allowed me to express myself in a way that hasn’t always been allotted to black women when wanting to embrace softness and soft things.
for a while (starting from age 11 ish) i really thought bcs of media and certain commentary irl that my skin and hyperpigmentation was not desirable or pretty. however, as i’ve learned and accepted…it’s always going to be beautiful and serves as a reminder of all the people it took to eventually make me. and that i deserve to love myself and appreciate all that i am made up of.
and a reminder that you’re beautiful, your skin is beautiful, your mind is beautiful, your existence is beautiful.

Dear Dexter Wade, I am so so sorry you were so failed by people. People who claim they are here to protect and serve the community (lies)
you shouldn't have been killed in the manner you were. you should have come home to your mom, your little girls, your family.
im so upset that no one is being held accountable for what happened to you. I am so upset that so many people will forget your name and face, while your family will forever live with a hole in their hearts.
you were so failed. i saw the pain on your mother's face as she stood by the sorry excuse for a grave you were given. you were so so loved. when i look at pictures of your face, i am reminded of my own father.
The father who doted on his little girl (me), my father also struggled with Bipolar and Schizophrenia before he died. My heart is broken, so many Black people die and are swiftly forgotten... I hope I never forget your name, I hope I forever remember your face.
I pray that your family is one day able to find some sort of peace. I hope you are at rest, and i hope that you knew how loved and valued you were and still are.
Tonight I will be thinking of you and my own father. I will lift your names to the skies above and plead with the universe that you are both granted peace in the afterlife.
I am so sorry that your story is far far too common. I pray that one day your story will NOT be the norm, and that we will not have to live in fear of the police.
~Signed, a very pissed off and sad Black Woman

The word needs to spread. They are taking away human rights all across America. They took women's bodily autonomy. A 10 year old child was R*PED BY A FAMILY MEMBER and was DENIED ABORTION IN OHIO. They had to be sent out of state to get an abortion, but pretty soon,, there will be laws in place to make that unlawful. MEN ARE ASSAULTING WOMEN and TELLING THEM that they CAN'T WAIT FOR THEM TO HAVE THEIR CHILDREN. They are allowing R*PISTS visitation rights, they are taking away indigenous people's right to govern themselves, and they are TELLING US what they will be attacking next; Lgbtq+, and our RIGHT TO VOTE. Now isn't the time to stay silent. Get EDUCATED. Pay ATTENTION. And recognize that right now? Is not the time to stay silent.
Thank you.

TW: racism
So I went to the store today like an hour ago and when I was walking in there was this old white man calling every black shopper the N-Word with the ER at the end ( luckily he didn’t say it to us but we witnessed him saying it to a elderly black woman) so my aunt told one of the employees and I don’t know what they said but I know for sure they made him leave and the security was also called ( I don’t know what happened because I was a good distance from where he was but I saw him getting walked out of the store ) and apparently my aunt said he seemed drunk so when we walked out the store we saw the employee and the security guard walking back to the store so most likely they had to walk him off the premises.
And of course this has to happen on black history month
But thanks to the employee and the security guard for making him leave and not allowing him to harass black shoppers and making everyone uncomfortable and Unsafe.

on the flip side of that Toxic Skincare Obsession post: I’m tired of seeing sun protection presented as another frivolous, unnecessary product of the patriarchy
“I’m going to sit in the sun with wine and enjoy it and fuck anti-aging products like SPF!” I mean yes normalize and celebrate people- especially women -not looking 22 forever but also
Skin Cancer Is Bad Maybe?
