That last round of hyena facts was crazy holy shit. I’m morbidly curious though, do you have more hyena facts?
Those are the more shocking hyena facts but I've got some more yeah!
Firstly, hyenas, despite looking like dogs, are actually within the feliform suborder, not caniform. This means that despite being stocky and havig non retractable claws and other various traits we more commonly associate with caniforms (dogs, bears, etc) they're actually more closely related to cats! Most closely related to mongooses and the fossa. They groom like other feliforms do.
Aside from the Aardwolf (not mentioned in my previous post), the three other hyena species all have skulls and dentition evolved for bone consumption. Strong bites, especially with the teeth towards the back of their jaw!
The Aardwolf on the other hand is in its own subfamily, Protelinae. It's basically "what if this catmogoosething that HAD specced into being like a dogwolf chose to now spec into being an anteater". Like an aardvark. You can imagine how it got the name. It's teeth are comparably reduced as a result. It has a long sticky tongue for eating termites. They're usually solitary but pair up for mating season, and unlike other hyenas, they're monogamous. They don't eat carrion and they really just like bugs.

Aardwolves
The aardwolf (Proteles cristata) is a small, insectivorous mammal, native to East and Southern Africa. Its name means "earth wolf" in Afrikaans and Dutch. It is also called "maanhaar jackal"(Afrikaans for "mane jackal") or civet hyena. The aardwolf is in the same family as the hyena.
Unlike other hyenas, the aardwolf does not hunt large animals. It eats insects, mainly termites – one aardwolf can eat about 250,000 termites during a single night, using its long, sticky tongue to capture them. The aardwolf lives in the shrublands of eastern and southern Africa – open lands covered with stunted trees and shrubs. It is nocturnal, resting in burrows during the day and emerging at night to seek food. Its diet consists mainly of termites and insect larvae.
The aardwolf is generally classified with the Hyaenidae, though it was formerly placed into the family Protelidae. Early on, scientists felt that it was merely mimicking the striped hyena, which subsequently led to the creation of Protelidae. The aardwolf is the only surviving species in the mammalian subfamily Protelinae. Recent studies have shown that the aardwolf probably broke away from the rest of the hyena family early on; however, how early is still unclear, as the fossil record and genetic studies disagree.
Aardwolves are shy and nocturnal, sleeping in underground burrows by day. They will, on occasion during the winter, become diurnal feeders. This happens during the coldest periods as they then stay in at night to conserve heat. They have often been mistaken for solitary animals. In fact, they live as monogamous pairs with their young. If their territory is infringed upon, they will chase the intruder up to 400 m (1,300 ft) or to the border. When food is scarce, the stringent territorial system may be abandoned and as many as three pairs may occupy a "single territory".
An aardwolf pair may have up to 10 dens, and numerous middens, within their territory. When they deposit feces at their middens, they dig a small hole and then cover it with sand. Their dens are usually abandoned aardvark, springhare, or porcupine dens, or on occasion they are crevices in rocks. They will also dig their own dens, or enlarge dens started by springhares. They typically will only use one or two dens at a time, rotating through all of their dens every six months.
In some areas, they are persecuted by man because of the mistaken belief that they prey on livestock; however, they are actually beneficial to the farmers because they eat termites that are detrimental. In other areas, the farmers have recognized this, but they are still killed, on occasion, for their fur. Dogs and insecticide are also common killers of the aardwolf.

Aardwolf (Proteles Christata) -
Despite its name, the aardwolf is a member of the hyena family.  It is smaller than its Hyaenidae cousins and it does not hunt large prey.  Instead, it has a modified, long sticky tongue that it uses to eat insects and termites.  Occasionally, it will scavenge for carrion.  Because of its diet, sometimes their teeth wear or fall out.
They are nocturnal and live in burrows.  They are social and pairs will both work to raise cubs.  However during foraging, they will typically separate and feed alone.
Since they cannot run very quickly, they rely on their foul smelling spray, and their mohawk like manes that can be raised to seem more threatening.
