Since no one seems to remember Journey, here's some art about our little hooded friend! :D
An explanation about the game below the cut:
Journey is a PlayStation game that was first made available on the PS4, and was later made compatible for the PS5 system. You play as a little creature in a red cloak, and use your summoning abilities and your scarf to solve puzzles and fly. Your goal is to reach the top of the mountain in the distance, and when you do, you are accepted into heaven, since the mountain's crook is the gateway.
With every playthrough, your cloak will get patterns, and you will get a different summoning symbol each time you play. There is no dialogue, and the story is told through murals.
If you don’t have a PlayStation but want the Journey pack, you can use a friend’s PS to buy it with your own account and then have it on your usual play device. This is also how I got the Switch pack. I used my cousin’s Switch.
BUT you have to be careful to do things in the correct order! It told me if I started Sky on the PS without linking my account first, then they’d never be linked and my items I bought on the PS would not show on any other device. It said the same when I bought the Switch pack.
Make a PlayStation account and set up a payment method. Using your usual play device (I use an iPad mini, but occasionally use my phone), log into Sky and go to “accounts” in settings. Link your Playstation account, make sure it finishes and says it’s linked. Then log in on your friend’s PS, buy the Journey pack first in the PS store (NOT in the game!). Then open Sky on the PlayStation and check for your stuff. If you don’t see the items in your inventory, check the in game store. It may list the Journey pack but show the price as “free”. Click that and you should be set. Once it appears for you on the PS, it’s yours on every device.
Also have a look at the little Journeyer I made for a Secret Santa we had on TGC’s forum years ago. The body is supposed to be white on this one. The friend who received it liked to imagine her Journeyer as an expert “white cloak” who masqueraded as a less experienced “red cloak” to help newer players. I want to make another but it was SUCH a pain in the 🍑! That golden thread knotted with every stitch.
This motherfucker would be so floofy if you turn him into a more "organic" beast. You can't tell me otherwise cause all his red relics are mimicking hair/fur. Knack even curls himself into a ball like a hedgehog.
If I have to match his body type for a less blocky form, a mix between Saiyuki Journey West Sun Wukong in build and Digimon's Lamortmon in fluff. What do you guys think?
Edit: Since I'm more awake, Knack would have raccoon paws. His hands just remind me of the trash pandas I feed at night. Two, my sleepy brain last night came up with organic when I really meant filled out.
Like Legos actually clicked together than broken and floating. I think the best match would be the trolls from Trollhunters, specifically AAARRRGGHH since he's the closest both in body type alongside fur. Guess Knack is the troll to his goblins if I compare the two series, lol.
Now I imagine his runes glowing like in the Trollhunters' show too based on his emotions.
I've only been playing video games regularly for the past 5 or 6 years (if you don't count my hundreds of hours in Pokemon White and Nintendogs) and I find that committing to a long game can feel like such a drag. Why should I start playing The Witcher 3, a game that will take hundreds of hours to finish, when I could just play Animal Crossing again? Through this thought process, I've come across many short games that are up to 5 hours long that I love and I wanted to share them. These are in no particular order.
1. THE GARDENS BETWEEN
You play as two neighbours unravelling their memories through cool time manipulation mechanics. The graphics are absolutely beautiful and just adds to the overall tone of the game. For anyone who likes a bit of a puzzle and heartwarming human relationships. [3 hours - Switch, PS4, Steam, Xbox One]
2. A SHORT HIKE
Play as a dubious penguin trying to climb a mountain for phone signal. Complete tasks for other people on the mountain to reach the peak and explore the beautiful sights. This 3D pixel art style is not one seen often in gaming right now and it's a refreshing change. While only a very short game I expect I will revisit just to explore the island again. [1 hour - Steam]
3. PIKUNIKU
You play as a ??? in a capitalist world hellbent on destroying an island to build a new industrial town. Your job is to save them all. A wonderful and silly adventure where you play watermelon basketball and run away from attacking toast. Happy little game! [3 hours - Switch, Xbox One, Steam]
4. FLORENCE
Despite being the shortest on this list, this game is by far my favourite. Florence is about a former artist struggling to regain her creativity while stuck in a dead-end job. It's beautifully illustrated, animated, and scored and as a creative, I totally understand the feeling of not being motivated to do what you love. If you don't play anything else on this list, play Florence! [less than 1 hour - iOS, Android, Steam, Switch]
5. JOURNEY
Many people have likely heard or played this game before but it is scheduled to release for the first time on PC so many people will soon be playing it for the first time. Journey is exactly what it says it is. You play a fairly unknown character as they climb up to the peak of a mountain. Somehow without a word of dialogue and with the music and visuals alone, you feel the emotions of the character. An absolutely fantastic game [2 hours - PS4]
Most of these games have been sat in my game library waiting to be played for so long and finally playing them and finding out I'd had this great game sitting there was somewhat annoying. So I encourage everyone to play that game you bought 6 years ago in a Steam sale that is still in your library dying to be played because it might be better than you think.
i stayed up late last night to finish playing rdr2 and i have been walking around Crying all morning and i imagine i will be crying for the rest of the day..... idk if they could've made an ending more upsetting and devastating than That
Journey is so calming, so immersive and beautiful. It’s so well done you can zoom way in on your character and see the weave of the fabric! I played it for hours each week, using “reverse charge boost” to fly sky high, going OOB to twilight places with glittery sands overlooking a city of ruins, making friends on TGC’s forum on their main site years ago (the forum is long gone).
The call is ethereal, and in Sky: CotL, they kept it exactly as it was. By far the best call in Sky now.
If you need a calming escape from reality, download Journey. It’s best on PS4 or PS5, but they have a mobile app too.
