there’s a huge part of me that wants to continue watching a play through of the game to actually experience it, but there’s another part of me that screams and runs away at the chance of encountering spoilers for that specific romance route…… as if i’m going to be able to play it in the next 1-3 YEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i’m so torn. i know i’m speaking into the void but where else am i gonna post about this.

I've been waiting for Baldur's Gate 3 with so much gotdang anticipation and now that it's finally here I'm reconsidering my plan to buy a PS5 to play it, because the console itself is $500 and I like to play old Windows games from the early 2000s that have become available on Steam again. I'm currently using an old Macbook Pro (2017) with a dead screen that still connects to external monitors and running bootcamp to run Windows, so I'm thinking of skipping the PS5 (I've had a 4 for a while) and getting a gaming PC instead. You've patiently answered countless questions about hardware for people and I'm hoping you can recommend a setup that I can use to play BG3 and Command & Conquer and Age of Empires II via Steam. Signed, someone who got trapped into the Apple ecosystem long ago and has now idea how much I should expect to spend for something like this or what kinds of components to look for and is ashamed because I used to mod my own PCs in the late 90's and is angry because I'm vaguely aware of what cryptominers are doing to the graphics card supply.
So my primary massive tech blindspot is that I don't know anything at all about video games, consoles, and graphics cards. I don't really do much with them for work and I don't play any games myself so it's just not my wheelhouse.
So if anyone wants to drop into the comments with advice here, that would be fantastic!
Now, that being said, I've had to purchase something like 5 gaming computers for work in the past few years and the company we've worked with is a local shop called NZXT, who do customizable prebuilts and fully custom computers at what seem like decent prices with decent specs. Our customers have been very happy with the computers we've purchased through NZXT, so I feel pretty comfortable recommending them as a place to get a gaming computer. Their prices start at around $1000, which is what I understand is a common entry level price for gaming computers.
If you use their custom build tool it guides you based on price and the performance you can expect from different games on the system, which seems handy (but which I don't fully understand the import of).
Good luck, and people who understand gaming requirements please feel free to jump in with advice!

PS5 Wafer Announced
Tumblr media
Let’s face it- The PS5 is BIG. At 10X15” and almost ten pounds, it’s a doozy. But for those who have waited this long for the chip shortage to fade and prices to drop, their wait is about to pay off.
Sony today announced the release of the “PS5 Wafer” for only $199, with all the functionality of the full PS5, save for its ability to accept discs and connect to televisions. It also lacks controller connectivity, wi-fi and bluetooth technology.
“Aside from the impossibility of connecting to a television or the internet, this new Playstation has all the same specs as a full original PS5. Though it cannot download games, nor display anything on a visual media device, nor be controlled by any known means, it’s the real deal.”
Pre-orders have already surpassed 50,000,000 morbillion sales.

hi!!!! saw u played cyberpunk…. insanely jealous first of all i do not have a strong enough set up… but to the point do u have any cyberpunk au thoughts!!!!
hiii! omg for some reason (i am generally just Quite Bad with AUs) i had not thought of this but now i cannot unthink it
ngl wanting to play the 2.0 rebuild properly was the deciding factor in upgrading to a PS5 and frankly it was worth it lmao. changed my life!! obsessed!
ANYWAY. so i'm gonna keep this fairly vague because a) i am thinking of it on the fly and b) spoiler avoidance but the basic idea of cyberpunk is that personality constructs can be uploaded to 'shards' (like a fancy USB stick) and those shards can IN THEORY (although they're not meant to be) be uploaded into human brains.
so like. oscar's a cyborg racing driver in the night city formula x league. he's promising but he's at the start of his career and his cyberware kinda sucks because he can't afford decent sponsors, so he's stuck with a first-gen operating system and shitty optical reflex enhancers whereas that guy max verstappen who's winning everything is sponsored by arasaka so of COURSE he has a top-spec biochip and state of the art mods, he's practically one with his car at this point.
and then he gets given a shard by this weird fan who won't tell him what's on it. he knows it's dumb but he installs it anyway. only to find it contains a personality construct of this other driver, some sassy little prick called lando norris. who's now stuck in his head. and won't shut up. critiquing oscar's driving, sneering at the way he's still got to manually jack in to his car with cables like a heathen.
only. he's also got some really good tips. and he's actually really helping oscar out. and he's actually kinda funny and hot, or at least the projection of him oscar can see is. and oscar thinks maybe he could start winning, if he keeps taking lando's advice. except this shard in his head isn't meant to be there. and it's slowly taking over.
FUCK NOW I WANT TO WRITE 50K OF THIS GODDAMNIT

Working on some 2024 short term goals for starters:
Replacing my scratched specs.
Upgrading my bike (replacing the handlebars and the pedals) and learn to ride hands free.
Writing my commissions' Terms and Conditions before taking in work.
Getting as much raw screenshots from TW3 on the PS4 before retiring the console to play the game again on a PS5.
Buying the PS5
Coming up with ideas for the first fanart for January.
Writing the next chapter of The Roles We Play and releasing it this month.
Saving enough dough to buy those expensive Japanese AceCooks ramen (they are really delicious... and expensive), on top of saving enough for a PS5.
Try not to think I'm getting another year older...

First details via PlayStation Blog:
The team here at Naughty Dog is excited to announce The Last of Us Part II Remastered, the definitive way to experience the acclaimed The Last of Us sequel originally released in 2020. We’re thrilled to confirm you won’t have to wait long for it either; players can jump into Ellie and Abby’s emotional journeys on the PlayStation 5 console on January 19, 2024.
Whether you’ve already played and even platinumed The Last of Us Part II on the PlayStation 4 console or have recently jumped into The Last of Us Part I on PS5 and want to continue the story, Part II Remastered will offer plenty of reasons for new and returning players to revisit a story that means so much to our studio. The engrossing campaign returns alongside technological improvements, new modes, and new behind-the-scenes features that will deepen your understanding of Part II’s creation. But before we break down what’s in store, take a look at our announcement trailer above.
Roguelike Mode: No Return
The Last of Us Part II Remastered is designed to let you dig deeper into both its development and mechanics. Chief among these is a brand-new mode called No Return, a roguelike survival mode designed to let players prove their mettle in randomized encounters and experience The Last of Us Part II’s combat in a fresh experience.
The mode includes a host of playable characters to choose from – some playable for the first time in The Last of Us franchise (which you may have spotted in our trailer) – who each come with their own traits to suit different playstyles. Players will chart their own course on each run, choosing between various stealth and combat encounters that will pit you against a range of enemies, with unique twists that can add new, unexpected factors to any given encounter.
Tumblr media
Each run will offer a new chance to decide what rewards you get after each encounter, how you spec out your character, and more. Unlock more characters, skins, and more as you progress to use in the mode, customize your own runs, and compete on a global leaderboard as part of a Daily Run2. We’re excited to share more about No Return as we get closer to launch.
Guitar Free Play Mode
For those who have already played The Last of Us Part II, we know the included sections featuring a playable guitar were a favorite for many, and you burgeoning rockstars impressed us with your performances. So we’ve introduced a new Guitar Free Play mode, which will let you strum the strings across a host of unlockable instruments, use audio FX pedals to modulate your performance, and play as different characters in several in-game locations to customize the mood and feel of your set.
And for both new and returning players interested in learning more, we’ve designed Part II Remastered to offer a comprehensive dive behind-the-scenes of how our studio brought this game to life. A new set of Lost Levels in Part II Remastered allow players a unique chance to check out some playable sequences previously cut from the game. These aren’t fully finished levels, but rather early-development slices that not only let you see some new glimpses of Part II’s world, but also include embedded developer commentary to give them richer context. Explore these spaces and hear directly from the team about the intention of aspects of each level – this is a unique inclusion for our studio and we’re excited to allow players a glimpse into the creative process.
Tumblr media
Director’s Commentary
We’ve also included newly recorded director’s commentary across the campaign’s cutscenes from director Neil Druckmann, narrative lead Halley Gross, and actors Troy Baker, Ashley Johnson, and Laura Bailey. They assembled to offer insight into the story and its characters that mean so much to both our team and our fans, and we’re delighted to give fans even more understanding of the team’s approach to this story.
Enhanced for PlayStation 5
The Last of Us Part II Remastered will feature enhanced graphics, including native 4K output in Fidelity Mode, 1440p upscaled to 4K1 in Performance Mode, an Unlocked Framerate option for TVs that support VRR, increased texture resolution, increased Level-of-Detail distances, improved shadow quality, animation sampling rate, and more. It all brings the world of Part II’s story to life in richer and smoother detail, from the snow-swept mountains of Jackson, Wyoming to the rainy cityscape of Seattle, Washington, and should make a first visit or a return trip to the complex journeys of Ellie and Abby all the more engrossing.
Part II Remastered takes advantage of the PS5’s power and features in more ways as well, including improved loading times. Part II Remastered also incorporates DualSense wireless controller haptic feedback and adaptive triggers integration to better immerse you in every moment of combat and exploration.
Tumblr media
Enhanced Accessibility
We’ve ensured Part II’s award-winning suite of accessibility options returns for the PS5 experience, alongside new additions like the inclusion of Descriptive Audio and Speech to Vibrations, which uses the DualSense controller to indicate character speech and cadence. The unlockable Speedrun Mode, included in The Last of Us Part I, will also be coming to Part II Remastered, allowing players to post their best times. Following The Last of Us Part I, The Last of Us Part II Remastered includes the ability to unlock bonus skins for Ellie, Abby, and their weapons that we’re excited for players to see and take some incredible Photo Mode shots with. You can get a first look at some in our announcement trailer. And speaking of Photo Mode, we’ve made some additions that players of The Last of Us Part I may be familiar with, including dynamic lighting, Frame Forward, and Gaze Direction, as well as new frame and logo options.
Game Editions
We’re so excited to natively bring The Last of Us Part II to the PlayStation 5 as the definitive way to experience the sequel and everything it has to offer, while also offering fans new and returning deeper levels of appreciation for the work that went into it. Pre-orders will be available beginning December 5, both for the standard edition, as well as The Last of Us Part II Remastered W.L.F. Edition, which will be exclusively available direct from PlayStation in select markets (United States, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Benelux, Italy, Spain, Portugal, and Austria). It includes a SteelBook® display case, four enamel pins, a Washington Liberation Front Patch, and a total of 47 Society of Champions trading cards, including eight holographic cards. These were a favorite of Part II players to collect in-game, and we’re so happy we could bring these to life. Check it out below:
Tumblr media
And good news for existing owners of The Last of Us Part II on PlayStation 4! You will be able to upgrade to a digital version of The Last of Us Part II Remastered for $10 USD at launch. You’ll also be able to import your saves from the original game to Part II Remastered.
Tumblr media
We’re excited to share more with you about The Last of Us Part II Remastered as we get closer to its release on PlayStation 5 on January 19! Preorders will go live on December 5, 2023.

So I've been wanting to play Baldur's Gate 3 pretty much since I heard of it, but I was going to wait until I had a PS5 before I got a copy, given that I have other things my money needs to go towards first and PS5s are Not Cheap. So it was gonna be a while before I could get the game, right?
Then I thought of a few things this morning: 1. Baldur's Gate 3 was released on PC first and 2. I got a new laptop last year that should be able to handle the specs and then 3. I'm an idiot for not putting this together sooner.
So guess what I'm most likely buying later today?

currently looking at trying to get baldur's gate for myself after checking my laptop specs but until then i wanted to show off my tav rohan (he/him half elf wood elf 🏳️‍⚧️) and his guardian frappucino (she/her dwarf 🏳️‍🌈) that i made with @slimepuppied when they spent the night with me before we went to go see beetlejuice the next day (they brought their laptop over so i could play it since i don't have a ps5 and didn't know if my laptop could handle playing it). he's a bard/monk multiclass because i wanted good con/dex for saving throws and then decided to multiclass so i can also hit things and i believe frappucino is a barbarian? i don't remember off the top of my head because i (stupidly) only took one screenshot of her but she's a fighter class because i wasn't thinking about multiclassing at the time so i made her to balance out rohan being a bard. they're platonic soulmates that are also magically bonded to one another which is why they have the same scar + tattoo and heterochromia and in my head they've already gone on several adventures together before the game even starts and got separated from one another when he was captured by the mind flayer.

Meet Levis (Brightwater) A nonbinary A-spec Mephistopheles Teifling. They're currently on their third run (Bard - College of Valour - Durge) to save the world from the 'Grand Design' which basically boils down to ridding the world of the Githyanki, while the survivors of other species are turned into mindless thralls. They've made some questionable choices, sometimes repeatedly, but despite that and the occasionally amusing sass, they do show some promise to make the world a safer place to live in. All while having a little fun along the way...
First completed run (Paladin - Oath of Vengence)
Second completed run (Wizard - Necromancer - Durge)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Despite the class, they make a point of saving both Scratch and the owl bear cub. Willingly get slapped about by Abdirak... and more that can be seen in the vids below. Wanna know more? Just ask! They don't bite (unless asked)
All images and videos posted here are my own unless stated otherwise. My gaming platform has been the PS5.

it's not even a matter of funds... whenever someone says 'oh just build a computer and become a pc gamer' whenever i complain about a game not being on playstation or whatever... i really want them to look me dead in the eyes and say that again
like... how the fuck am i gonna build a COMPUTER
you expect me to learn that?
you want me to spend more money than i would on a console... and then i have to build it on my own... and hope the specs are good enough for the games i want... even though... i don't know what the fuck the specs mean???
every two months i google what motion blur is and if it's bad/good for my games because i don't retain it and you want me to know which GPU is both good for my budget AND futureproof??
i get stomach aches from the stress of taking the case off my ps5 to clean the inside once every 6 months and you want me to hold a motherboard in my bare fucking hands without getting an anxiety attack??
you want me... ME??? to build a COMPUTER??? what the fuck is this, dexter's lab?? if so, i'm not dexter, i'm deedee
not even getting into when you ask how long a gaming pc lasts and how frequently you have to "upgrade it" meanwhile my fucking ps2 i bought used in like 2010 still works and has had to be upgraded zero times. sure, i might be tempted to buy a new console... once every 7-8 years but it's one and done baby!!! one and DONE
