Hope For the Best, Even If It Looks Like Things are At Their Worst
“Uphold me according to Your word, that I may live; And do not let me be ashamed of my hope.” (Psalms 119:116 NKJV) Perhaps because he was so intimate with God, David had a unique perspective about God’s word. He saw it as more than something to read in church, and even more than a book of wisdom that helped him understand how to live. We sometimes just hit the high spots in David’s biography…

“The earth is filled with your love, Lord; teach me your decrees.” —Psalm 119:64 (NIV)
“Lord, you love everyone on earth; please teach me what to do.” —Psalm 119:64 (FBV)
“Your love, God, fills the earth! Train me to live by your counsel.” —Psalm 119:57‭-‬64 (MSG)
“Give me more revelation of your ways, for I see your love and tender care everywhere. Your extravagant kindness to me makes me want to follow your words even more! Teach me how to make good decisions, and give me revelation-light, for I believe in your commands. Before I was humbled I used to always wander astray, but now I see the wisdom of your words. Everything you do is beautiful, flowing from your goodness; teach me the power of your wonderful words!” —Psalm 119:64‭-‬68 (TPT)
“10 Things to Know About Psalm 119” By Kevin Halloran:
“Many of us desire to love God’s Word more, but are unsure of how to cultivate those desires. Psalm 119 is a heartfelt prayer from the Psalmist that can be used as a tool to transform your affections to love God’s Word more. Here are 10 Things to Know about Psalm 119:
Psalm 119 is the longest chapter in the Bible with 176 verses. It has a similar length to some of the Bible’s shorter books like Philippians, James, or Ruth!
The purpose of this Psalm is to celebrate God’s word and instruction to his people. It is used in Jewish tradition to celebrate Rosh Hashanah (which is Jewish New Year). This holiday is the first of a series of holidays called Yamim Nora’im, or in English ‘Days of Awe.’ It is fitting to use this psalm in that setting because the Psalmist beautifully expresses awe and adoration of God for his Word. Here is one verse commonly used in this celebration: “The law of your mouth is better to me than thousands of gold and silver pieces.” Psalm 119:72
The structure of Psalm 119 is comprised of 22 stanzas, each starting with a different letter in the Hebrew alphabet. Each stanza has 8 verses with two lines each.
There is a tradition in the Eastern Orthodox Church that King David used this psalm to teach his son Solomon both the Hebrew alphabet and the “alphabet of the spiritual life.”
Many of the verses mention God’s Word in one line, and then in the second line connect it to God’s revelation. Other words used to describe God’s revelation are: law, testimonies, precepts, statutes, commandments, word, and rules.
Psalm 119 is a prayer that includes many different elements, including prayers of praise (45-48), lament (81-88), vindication (132-134), obedience (57-64), and petitions for wisdom (33-40).
David Powlison observes, “Psalm 119 is actually not about the topic of getting Scripture into your life. Instead, it is the honest words that erupt when what God says gets into you. It’s not an exhortation to Bible study; it’s an outcry of faith…Psalm 119 is the thoughtful outcry that rises when real life meets real God.” (Speaking the Truth in Love, p. 14). “It is good for me that I was afflicted, that I might learn your statutes.” Psalm 119:71
Charles Spurgeon liked this Psalm so much, he said, “we might do well to commit it to memory.” That’s a tall order for a Psalm that has 176 verses! He also had this to say about it from his Psalm 119 commentary: “As those who drink the Nile water like it better every time they take a draught, so does this Psalm become more full and fascinating the oftener you turn to it.”
The song “Thy Word” by Amy Grant is based on one of the most memorable verses from this beloved Psalm, verse 105 which says, “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path” (KJV). You can listen to the song here.
Use this Psalm as a tuning fork to tune your heart to love God’s Word more. Read the psalm straight through and pray that God will shape your life and heart to love him and his Word more!”

Tuesday, Tenth Week in Ordinary Time
(Liturgical Colour: White: A (1))
(Readings for the feria (Tuesday))
(There is a choice today between the readings for the ferial day (Tuesday) and those for the memorial. The ferial readings are recommended unless pastoral reasons suggest otherwise)
First Reading 2 Corinthians 1:18-22 Jesus was not yes and no, but yes has always been in him.
Brothers and sisters: As God is faithful, our word to you is not “yes” and “no.” For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was proclaimed to you by us, Silvanus and Timothy and me, was not “yes” and “no,” but “yes” has been in him. For however many are the promises of God, their Yes is in him; therefore, the Amen from us also goes through him to God for glory. But the one who gives us security with you in Christ and who anointed us is God; he has also put his seal upon us and given the Spirit in our hearts as a first installment.
The Word of the Lord
R/ Thanks be to God.
Responsorial Psalm Psalm 119:129, 130, 131, 132, 133, 135
R/ Lord, let your face shine on me.
Wonderful are your decrees; therefore I observe them.
R/ Lord, let your face shine on me.
The revelation of your words sheds light, gives understanding to the simple.
R/ Lord, let your face shine on me.
I gasp with open mouth in my yearning for your commands.
R/ Lord, let your face shine on me.
Turn to me in pity as you turn to those who love your name.
R/ Lord, let your face shine on me.
Steady my footsteps according to your promise, and let no iniquity rule over me.
R/ Lord, let your face shine on me.
Let your countenance shine upon your servant, and teach me your statutes.
R/ Lord, let your face shine on me.
Gospel Acclamation Matthew 5:16
Alleluia, alleluia. Let your light shine before others that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father. Alleluia, alleluia.
Gospel Matthew 5:13-16 You are the light of the world.
Jesus said to his disciples: “You are the salt of the earth. But if salt loses its taste, with what can it be seasoned? It is no longer good for anything but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. You are the light of the world. A city set on a mountain cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and then put it under a bushel basket; it is set on a lampstand, where it gives light to all in the house. Just so, your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father.”
The Gospel of the Lord
R/ Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

(Readings for the memorial)
(There is a choice today between the readings for the ferial day (Tuesday) and those for the memorial. The ferial readings are recommended unless pastoral reasons suggest otherwise)
First Reading Isaiah 61:1-3d The Lord GOD anointed me and sent me to bring good news to the poor.
The spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, because the LORD has anointed me; He has sent me to bring glad tidings to the lowly, to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives and release to the prisoners, To announce a year of favor from the LORD and a day of vindication by our God, to comfort all who mourn; To place on those who mourn in Zion a diadem instead of ashes, To give them oil of gladness in place of mourning, a glorious mantle instead of a listless spirit.
The Word of the Lord
R/ Thanks be to God.
Responsorial Psalm Psalm 89:2-3, 4-5, 21-22, 25 and 27
R/ For ever I will sing the goodness of the Lord.
The favors of the LORD I will sing forever; through all generations my mouth shall proclaim your faithfulness. For you have said, “My kindness is established forever”; in heaven you have confirmed your faithfulness.
R/ For ever I will sing the goodness of the Lord.
“I have made a covenant with my chosen one, I have sworn to David my servant: Forever will I confirm your posterity and establish your throne for all generations.”
R/ For ever I will sing the goodness of the Lord.
“I have found David, my servant; with my holy oil I have anointed him, That my hand may be always with him, and that my arm may make him strong.”
R/ For ever I will sing the goodness of the Lord.
“My faithfulness and my mercy shall be with him, and through my name shall his horn be exalted. He shall say of me, ‘You are my father, my God, the Rock, my savior.’”
R/ For ever I will sing the goodness of the Lord.
Gospel Acclamation Luke 4:18
Alleluia, alleluia. The Lord sent me to bring glad tidings to the poor and to proclaim liberty to captives. Alleluia, alleluia.
Gospel Luke 10:1-9 The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few.
The Lord Jesus appointed seventy-two other disciples whom he sent ahead of him in pairs to every town and place he intended to visit. He said to them, “The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few; so ask the master of the harvest to send out laborers for his harvest. Go on your way; behold, I am sending you like lambs among wolves. Carry no money bag, no sack, no sandals; and greet no one along the way. Into whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace to this household.’ If a peaceful person lives there, your peace will rest on him; but if not, it will return to you. Stay in the same house and eat and drink what is offered to you, for the laborer deserves his payment. Do not move about from one house to another. Whatever town you enter and they welcome you, eat what is set before you, cure the sick in it and say to them, ‘The Kingdom of God is at hand for you.’”
The Gospel of the Lord
R/ Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

#DailyDevotion The Words Of The LORD Open His Ways To Us
Tumblr media
#DailyDevotion The Words Of The LORD Open His Ways To Us Psalm 119 129The truths (edah) You wrote are wonderful; that's why I keep them. 130Your word (dabar) is a door that lets in light and helps the simple person understand. 131I open my mouth wide and pant. as I long for Your commandments (mitsvah). 132Turn to me and be merciful to me as is right (misphat) for those who love Your name. 133Make my steps firm by Your word (imrah), and don't let wrong have control over me. 134Free me from the oppression of men, and I will follow the way You want me to live (piqqud). 135Let Your face shine on Your servant, and teach me Your laws (choq). 136Tears stream down from my eyes because others don't follow Your teaching (torah). The first three verses here seem to form some sort of unit. We start off with the written truths i.e. the covenant stipulations. They are wonderful to the psalmist which is why he keeps them. Wonderful, this is the same word the LORD tells Sarah when she laughed, "Is anything too wonderful for the LORD?" As Christians, we have a New Covenant, Christ Jesus' body and blood given and shed for us for the forgiveness of sins. In this covenant the LORD calls us His People and He calls Himself our God. He forgives our sins and remembers them no more. He places His teachings in our hearts so no one need teach us, "Know the LORD!" Our part in this is to eat, drink and remember what the LORD has done for us. Wonderful indeed are His truths. His word is a door that lets in light to help the simple person understand, Jesus says in John 10, "7...I tell you the truth, I am the Door for the sheep... 9I am the Door. If anyone comes in through Me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture.10 ...I came so that they will have life and have it overflowing in them." Jesus is the Word of God and He is the Door of God. He is the Light of God who gives understanding even to the simple. If we trust Him and do what He teaches, anyone can gain understanding thereby from the Almighty. The light that comes from Him gives us eternal life. The psalmist longs for the LORD's commandments. His mouth is open wide and panting. I'm trying to envision this. The best I can come up with is you see a person who is drop dead gorgeous and your mouth just opens and you are locked in on them. So should we be when we read the will of our LORD for us in the Scriptures. The ESV translates vs. 132 as "as is your way.” Our translation has “as is right.” It's an interesting translation for mishpat. It is used as an attribute here. It's been used that way before. So the LORD's is misphat and that mishpat is to be turning and being merciful to those who love His name. Of course if you hate His name, then you won't be able to see that. It will appear to you He is turning away or towards you in anger. But it is His will to turn to you and be merciful to you. We want the LORD's word to make our steps firm so we do not let evil rule over us. If we serve sin, it will be our master. In modern parlance, one addiction leads to the next and worse and worse levels of those addictions (sins). Jesus' word can free us from those addictions and keep us from going back to them if we continue in His promises, who He is to us and what He has done for us. In similar fashion, we are freed from the oppression of men when the life of the LORD is most important to us. It doesn't mean they won't make life difficult, but we don't have to do as they say. The LORD's face is gracious to us as He teaches us how to live our lives under Him. It should sadden us when we see others don't follow His teachings, particularly those who were raised in them. Our prayer should be for their return to His rest. Heavenly Father, grant that we may always have Your light. May we in our love for You see Your gracious turning to us with mercy. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen. Read the full article

John Hagee Daily Devotionals 29th November – Isaiah 62:2.
Tumblr media
TODAY’S  SCRIPTURE : Isaiah 62:2 You shall be called by a new name, which the mouth of the LORD will name.
JOHN HAGEE DEVOTIONAL MESSAGE / SERMON FOR TODAY 29TH NOVEMBER 2023.
Jacob stubbornly wrestled with God. He would not let go until God gave him what he wanted more than anything. God blessed him with a new name; He would now be called Israel. Jacob had struggled with God and man, but he had prevailed. His desperation for the blessing won out. In an instant, he received a new name, a new character, and a new outcome. No longer was he known as Jacob – the heel catcher, deceiver, and trickster. God called him Israel, a Prince with God. He had lived up to his previous name and fulfilled the expectations of that label. But when His Creator – the One Who formed and ordained – called him by name, he became the man God had designed. When his Maker told him what He saw and called out his true identity, Israel was born. Many of us wrestle with who we once were. We are exhausted by the expectations and diminished by the doubters around us. Our Creator will struggle with us – just like he wrestled with Jacob – until we are in a position to receive the blessing. In a moment, He will call out the person He designed you to be. He will give you a new name, new character, and new destiny. One touch will change everything. Blessing May the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you and give you His peace. The old things have passed away, and everything has become new. He has raised you to walk in newness of life. Give thanks to your Creator! ZIP Code 28278 Post Office City: Charlotte, NC County: Mecklenburg County Area code: 704 Charlotte is a feminine given name, a female form of the male name Charles. It is of French or Italian origin, meaning "free/freed/freedom" or "petite". (Wikipedia)
“I wanted freedom in the same way I wanted my next breath: an unspoken but constant desire.” ― Jodi Meadows, Before She Ignites
“Freedom is a place, an area. It's a higher place. There are some other people that are here, and things that are here which are unseen. But you first have to set yourself free and believe in what you cannot see, believe that there is something more out there. In freedom can be found many devotions: a devotion to love, a desire to believe, a willingness to be happy, a perseverance to have peace. All these unseen things breathe and grow in the unseen soul. A free person is not an uncommitted person, but in a free person you will find a deep devotion, and a desire to be devoted to even more.” ― C. JoyBell C.
“The trees called to me, urging me to abandon what I knew and vanish into the oncoming night. It was a desire that had been tugging me with disconcerting frequency these days.” ― Maggie Stiefvater, Shiver
“Your life will be transformed when you make peace with your shadow. The caterpillar will become a breathtakingly beautiful butterfly. You will no longer have to pretend to be someone you're not. You will no longer have to prove you're good enough. When you embrace your shadow you will no longer have to life in fear. Find the gifts of your shadow and you will finally revel in all the glory of your true self. Then you will have the freedom to create the life you have always desired.” ― Debbie Ford
“Sometimes she has imagined what it would be like to fly, to live in the river, to run like a horse. She has dreamed of that freedom, that power, and fears the wildness in herself that wants to live as beasts live, moved purely by need and desire. She has felt torn between the heat of her limbs and the thoughts in her mind telling her to be careful and good and always calm. Don't scream or cry, don't run to him and throw yourself at his feet, pleading for him to take you in his arms, don't strip off your clothes and run naked to the water, wild with wanting.” ― Francesca Lia Block
“I felt that I could swim for miles, out into the ocean: a desire for freedom, an impulse to move, tugged at me as though it were a thread fastened to my chest. It was an impulse I knew well, and I had learned that it was not the summons from a larger world I used to believe it to be. It was simply a desire to escape from what I had.” ― Rachel Cusk, Outline
“Being female in this world means having been robbed of the potential for human choice by men who love to hate us. One does does not make choices in freedom. Instead, one conforms in body type and behavior and values to become an object of male sexual desire, which requires an abandonment of a wide-ranging capacity for choice… Men too make choices. When will they choose not to despise us?” ― Andrea Dworkin, Intercourse
“I had no epiphany, no singular revelation, no moment of truth, but a steady accumulation of a thousand slights, a thousand indignities and a thousand unremembered moments produced in me an anger, a rebelliousness, a desire to fight the system that imprisoned my people. There was no particular day on which I said, Henceforth I will devote myself to the liberation of my people; instead, I simply found myself doing so, and could not do otherwise.” ― Nelson Mandela, Long Walk to Freedom
“I have observed this in my experience of slavery,--that whenever my condition was improved, instead of its increasing my contentment, it only increased my desire to be free, and set me to thinking of plans to gain my freedom. I have found that, to make a contented slave, it is necessary to make a thoughtless one. It is necessary to darken his moral and mental vision, and, as far as possible, to annihilate the power of reason. He must be able to detect no inconsistencies in slavery; he must be made to feel that slavery is right; and he can be brought to that only when he ceased to be a man.” ― Frederick Douglass, Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass
John 8:31 To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. John 8:32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

Reading 1
2 Cor 1:18-22
Brothers and sisters: As God is faithful, our word to you is not “yes” and “no.” For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was proclaimed to you by us, Silvanus and Timothy and me, was not “yes” and “no,” but “yes” has been in him. For however many are the promises of God, their Yes is in him; therefore, the Amen from us also goes through him to God for glory. But the one who gives us security with you in Christ and who anointed us is God; he has also put his seal upon us and given the Spirit in our hearts as a first installment.
Responsorial Psalm
Psalm 119:129, 130, 131, 132, 133, 135
R./ Lord, let your face shine on me.
Wonderful are your decrees; therefore I observe them. R./ Lord, let your face shine on me.
The revelation of your words sheds light, gives understanding to the simple. R./ Lord, let your face shine on me.
I gasp with open mouth in my yearning for your commands. R./ Lord, let your face shine on me.
Turn to me in pity as you turn to those who love your name. R./ Lord, let your face shine on me.
Steady my footsteps according to your promise, and let no iniquity rule over me. R./ Lord, let your face shine on me.
Let your countenance shine upon your servant, and teach me your statutes. R./ Lord, let your face shine on me.
Gospel
MT 5:13-16
Jesus said to his disciples: “You are the salt of the earth. But if salt loses its taste, with what can it be seasoned? It is no longer good for anything but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. You are the light of the world. A city set on a mountain cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and then put it under a bushel basket; it is set on a lampstand, where it gives light to all in the house. Just so, your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father.”

IMPACT A LIFE:GOOD MORNING
“Come and show me your mercy, as you do for all who love your name. Guide my steps by your word, so I will not be overcome by evil.”-Psalms 119:132-133
God loves us He loves us so much that He continues to do for us even when at times we don’t deserve it. That’s His mercy and His grace being put on full display when we instead should receive His punishment for our actions. That’s why it is so important for us to follow the instructions He has given to us in His Word. Following His directions for our lives will keep up from falling into the trap of the enemy which takes us off the course God has prepared for us since the beginning of our existence. Good news is if we fall off course, God is a forgiving God who is merciful enough to forgive us(when we admit our wrongs)and loving enough to pick us up and put us right back on course. Want to reach the destination God has for you? Follow His instructions and allow Him to lead. Where He guides, He provides.
P - PAUSE to be still. Meditate on what you’ve just read, allowing it to sink in.
R - REFLECT on Scripture. What was God saying to you today through His Word?
A - ASK for God’s help. How does today’s Word challenge you to do that?
Y - YIELD to His will in your life. Take up His invitation to live differently, understanding His plan is beyond anything you could ask or imagine.
