Compton Boole Personality Theory (Psychonauts 2)
HERE IT IS. COMPTON BOOLE PERSONALITY THEORY IS HERE AT LAST. I would like to begin with the fact that this theory uses evidence that is proposed from a different theory I have written: the Psychonauts 2 music theory. I will link this at the bottom of the post.
Compton Boole Personality theory. Allow me to propose a theory regarding beloved Psychonaut character Compton Boole. Throughout the events of Psychonauts 2, we weren't exposed to much of Compton Boole's personality, as he was ridden with anxiety and was unable to act how he naturally would. We got hints of his true personality through his actions and memories of him in collective memory reels. But have we been exposed to a hidden part of his personality obscured and dismissed by his surface level kindness? What might Compton have been like in the past, or if he could act without trying to protect himself the way he has? To begin, after completing videogame Psychonauts 2, we have access to speak to all the characters in the game post completion. When speaking to him post game, Compton jokes about eating goats. How funny. This is clearly a form of dark humour. This sort of manner of speaking would not resurge itself suddenly for no reason. This fact proves that Compton has a history of telling and communicating with dark humour. Additionally, when speaking to Compton for the first time in the game's story, and quitting his conversation after asking for help with the mole, Compton gives a sarcastic remark, saying "tsk, if you say so" (I actually forgot exactly what he says but it's ALONG THE LINES). Secondly, according to Psychonauts 2 Music Theory (Sad Mission), the genres of music in levels and inside minds correspond to the character's previous exposure or history with the genre of music. Through the level Compton's Cookoff, it is understandable and believable how Compton may have been exposed to old game show music through his upbringing, leading him to manifest similar music to cover the theme of Ram it Down. However, the interest lies during the end of Compton's Cookoff. During the boss of the level, the level plays music that can confidently be categorized in the genre of Metal. Music in a level can correspond to a character's history, prior exposure, or sentimentality. Music would not resurge due to prior exposure from exposure alone, because the goats themselves have no connection to metal as a genre to begin with, so you can discount that as reason for the music. The connection of history is used only when a setting highlights the setting's past, without any purposeful inclination to the genre. Because the boss fight is not a peer into Compton's past, we can discount that as a reason for the genre. I believe the music on the boss fight is metal because of sentimentality. I believe I can confidently conclude this shows that Compton Does, or more likely Used to listen to metal. Lastly, Compton's favourite colour is purple, and purple is an edgy colour. This is no debate. I conclude this because, in his isolation (or past), Compton Boole sat down and LEARNED how to make his teleport all pretty. nobody else has done this!! ONLY COMPTON, presumably during all the time he spent in ompton jail, and made it purple. Additionally, the walls of his cell are bright purple-pink (magenta), a colour I believe only an enjoyer of the colour purple would not go insane looking at. He is a purple man I sense it. On the same note, he has purposely trained himself to ornate his teleportation ability with a crt-esque / glitch effect.
Tagging in after this was published for a small addition to the EVIDENCE of this. I keep replaying the game and I keep my full trust in this theory. This is super small and weak, but just the plethora of early images of Compton with smug expressions. Love you man stay strong #girlsforever
According to my three (now four) pieces of evidence, his use of dark humour and sarcasm, Compton's history of being a listener of metal, and a like for purple, the edgiest colour, and his edgy teleport effect, I can conclude that Compton Boole is edgy. Compton Boole is not as single faceted as his simple, kind, and caring facade leads you to believe. That he infact has a side to some of his true tastes hidden beyond the surface level. Thank you for reading my essay.

I fully believe this theory. I believe the evidence posed for this theory actually makes this cannon. For evidence 2, I used evidence that comes from the Psychonauts 2 music theory, check it out here, it's pretty good especially the body content:

Jaune: Y-Y'know, because I don't really know how "great" we are from each other. Heh heh.
Salem: (Blinks)
Jaune: A-Anyways, I'm your descendant, and I'm here to talk you out of being evil because, you know... You're still family and all.
Salem: FAMILY?! All I see is another pathetic hero with a rusty sword!
Jaune: Uh, it's not rusty ANYMORE.
Salem: Another child playing as an adult who needs discipline! (Summons Grimm, Cackles)

A Psychonauts 2 theory I will live and die by:
Everyone -EVERYONE- in the series is an unreliable narrator. Yes even Raz. That's why the timeline is confusing and makes no sense, that's why some things seemingly conflict, that may even be why different people look vastly different -almost inhuman-. It's because we're filtering the game through Raz's perspective. That's why we see the Hand of Galocchio, after all: because Raz sees it.
This is especially exemplified in the fact that, at the Motherlobe, in the "Agents" hall, there's really only three doors for agents: Sasha, Milla, and Oleander. Because those are the only agents whose names Raz recognizes, and therefore they are the only ones that matter. I'd argue we're playing through Raz's memories of events, not the events as they happen exactly. We know for a fact that there are more active field agents, because Agent 33 is an active field agent, so she should have an office, but you can't find it in-game in the agent hallway.
It's absolutely implied that the Motherlobe is much bigger than we explore (Upper hallways are visible but inaccessible), I would go so far as to say we're only seeing the bits of it that Raz cares about because the rest is irrelevant to the story he's telling.
In conclusion, the timeline is whatever we say it is because everyone is either misremembering it or straight-up lying anyway.
(I do not count Campster profile dates as being evidence of a timeline, I thoroughly believe those exist out-of-timeline, and while they likely represent canonical information, the dates should be disregarded).

Is Psitanium a limited resource? Will the Psychonauts ever run out of it? What would happen if they did? We know it can lose it’s psychic charge; can it be recharged or once it’s inert that’s it? Is there a way to make more of it, and if so, how? Psitanium got into the ecosystem of Whispering Rock which caused the animals to get psychic abilities; did the same thing happen to humans? Is psitanium in people’s blood like micro plastic, and this causes psychic abilities? Is this what mental cobwebs are? Is that why they are purple, because they are accumulated psitanium? Is this why Edgar and Boyd have slight psychic abilities; higher exposure? Is there psitanium things like chalk and paint, like lead back in the day? Is this how Edgar and Boyd got exposed? Does Psitanium accumulate in the brain? Can brains turn into psitanium or other psycho-active minerals? Is this why that psilirium in the rhombus looks like a brain, cause it is one? Do different brains turn into different colored minerals with time or circumstance? Is that why all the brains in Otto’s brain-frame are different colors? Are the psi challenge markers a form of psychic material? Is this why he wants to collect all those brains, to make more psitanium and other psycho-active minerals? Is that why all those supply chests with psitanium in them around the motherlobe form into a vaguely brain shape when put together, because they are? Psitanium can be used to give items psychic properties, like the jet the Pelican and those floating islands in the quarry; can the same be done for humans? Can you create an artificial psychic? Is this why is Otto be so obsessed with mining and gathering psitanium? Is he an artificial psychic, and psitanium is needed to maintain this power? In Psychonauts 2, we see his psi power come from his necklace; is this meant to give him psychic abilities? Or is it that his ability is weak and he needs artificial assistant to be on par with his peers? Can psitanium be harvested from people? What if that is a secret function of the brain tumblr, to extract psychic power/material from psychics? Is the one that exploded in Otto’s old lab trying to take ability from an extremely powerful psychic that caused a fatal malfunction? If so, is that the brain we see in the brain-frame that was killed in a brain tumblr accident? Who is this person? Can brains actually come back from being dead? Can brains die in this universe? Are the brains in the brain frame aware, or be made aware like Helmut’s? What happens when that happens?
…. Excuse me everyone, i think I just got possessed by the spirit of Boyd for a few minutes… it’s late, enough insane rambling, off to bed go i… *passes out*

The reason I think Compton is so disconnected from his family is because he used to do animal rights protesting before he joined the Psychic Six (Early 1960s, so he's probably in his mid forties) and, due to the fact that he was probably one of the only psychics in that division of protestations, he got thrown in jail a lot cause prejudice. I know damn well that man never had any jail time, so he was most likely bailed out by his s/o. Said s/o and himself likely got into a lot of arguments about it. One day, it got so bad that his s/o said, "You go out, protest and get thrown in jail one more time and we're done." Then "I was only trying to help happened." And Ford bailed him out. HOWEVER, Compton was so afraid of the repercussions of going back to his family, that he just fucking ghosted them. He still loved them, sure, but he fucked up. I do believe also that
1. The relationship between him and his s/o was great until he started protesting (no income, s/o having to work more than one job, little to no affection, etc) The s/o may have also done some stuff too.
2. He was distant from his child in their early development years. He may have been there for 5-10 years as a father, but after that he may have practically emotionally abandoned his kid (spending too much time away, little to no affection)
3. This behavior is passed down from Compton's parents being similar to how Compton and his s/o treat their child. With one parent being who the child is primarily dependent on (in good and bad ways) and the other one being distant, always away and giving them less than ideal affection/praise.
This is all just theorizing. I love Compton Boole to death, but I just don't think he was the best dad.
Also I will be writing my theory on his life because I can and will.

what if Loboto was having hypoglycemia from forgetting to eat the MREs Oleander gave him throughout the entirety of PN1 and RoR and he acts less erratic and then falls asleep on Sasha’s table in PN2 because they gave him snacks

This started as something simple and now it turned into something not simple.
I pointed it like "lol Raz acting like employee of the year is gonna be him and then he looks upset in the background when Loboto wins" but I figured it was just coincidentally at first;
Tumblr media
They announce it's time for the award,
Tumblr media
Raz is like "oh yeah it'll totally be me",
Tumblr media
They say it's actually Loboto,
Tumblr media
Now look at Raz in the background.
I took this to Twitter and Discord and we began having basic discussions about it until I noticed some details of the animatic that was released yesterday;
Tumblr media
Raz flexing on the haters and Lili's like "haha little does he know.."
Tumblr media
Lili's like "ha gotem" and Raz is so heavily confused.
So it makes me wonder, did the Psychonauts somehow import Raz into the construct without him knowing? Were they trying to mess with him? It would make sense for him to fall for it since he hadn't been to the Motherlobe at that point yet so if they could've easily convinced him if they got him in there. It would make sense as to way he's so out of it at the computer and like "man Psychonauts is boring." Maybe psychics have the ability to import other people into minds? They were on the jet for multiple days so (if this is a real thing they can do) Raz could've easily been sleeping and the nauts were like "guys I'm bored let's do a funny" or something and put him in there. Now thinking about it it was most likely probably Lili's idea and Sasha and Milla were just like "yeah sure go for it lol". If this is the case I'm assuming Lili told Raz the actual plan while everyone else was telling Loboto his boss needs to sign the thing but yeah. I've been thinking way to hard about this recently so now you have to as well.
That's it. That's the thing.

WARNING: SPOILERS FOR PSYCHONAUTS 2 AND RHOMBUS OF RUIN BELOW
On a recommendation I watched a playthrough of Rhombus of Ruin (for the second time), and something I find interesting is that Dr. Loboto tells Raz that his client was paying extra for Raz's brain, in addition to Truman Zanotto's.
Anyone who's played through Pn2 knows that his client is Gristol Malik, but apparently he was only interested in Truman's brain, and Loboto wanting Raz's brain as well for his client is never even mentioned. Obviously it's possible the writers forgot about this or just decided to go in a different direction for the story, but that's not as interesting, so I'm gonna speculate. :V
My guess is that, since Loboto admits that he was moonlighting for Gristol during the events of the first game, he was in contact with his client, and therefore Gristol knew what was going on at Whispering Rock. Given Loboto's connection to Oleander, it's possible Gristol had been spying on the camp for a long time, trying to find leads on where to find Maligula. After all, he'd been to the camp at least once before, as we see in Fatherland Follies. Furthermore, it's probable that he's been searching for Maligula's family for a long time, reasonably suspecting that they could lead him to her - and he's used his wealth and connections to track them wherever he can and build up a profile.
So when he caught wind of a mysterious circus kid with Marona Aquato's last name turning up, along with reports of great psychic power and a 'water curse', naturally he'd want a word with him. And maybe more - if the whole 'use Truman to find Maligula and bring her back' scheme didn't work out, maybe he could make a new Maligula. Or perhaps he could use Raz's body as a backup. Or maybe both at once.
It's also possible that Loboto had another, unrelated client who wanted Raz's brain for some reason, but at that point you can just make up whatever story you want, I can't help you there. :V

Psychonauts 2 music theory
I am presenting my theory on the music in Psychonauts 2 Music. I have a theory on the music in the soundtrack of Psychonauts 2. The genre of the music that appears in locations, levels, minds, and battles in Psychonauts 2 (and Psychonauts to some soundtracks) pertains to specifically one of three derivations of the character or setting (which can allow us to derive information about characters from the music genre that isn't explicit in the game). To start, the reason I believe this is mostly unique to Psychonauts 2 is the fact that, in the original game, the soundtrack is simply not easily categorized by genre. And, while diverse in sound, all the music in the original game is more or less similar in genre and style. While some soundtracks clearly pertain to the setting it's played in (for example, the campgrounds music, or the extra orchestral music in Gloria's theatre, which can applied in this theory), some soundtracks play more into the feel of the battle or level rather than the potential history or sentimentality of a genre (for example, in the tank battles, Sasha's shooting gallery, or the brain tumbler experiment). This is unlike in Psychonauts 2, where each track can be very easily identifiable in genre, time period, and style. I think music in each level of Psychonauts 2 pertains to the character to which the level belongs in through the character or setting's history, prior exposure to the music genre, or sentimentality towards the music.
I think music in each level of Psychonauts 2 pertains to the character to whom it belongs through: the character or setting's history, prior exposure to the music genre, or sentimentality towards the music genre. Listing through these three ideas:
History: I believe the music present in Loboto's Labyrinth draws inspiration from popular music from the 1940s. Whether Dr. Loboto was interested in the style of music or not, he was probably exposed to the style of music in his past growing, even if this timely music transcended time (he wasn't raised in the 40's, although he probably has). The music present in the Questionable Area is reminiscent of the original Psychonauts' campgrounds music. This doesn't go deep, but this can relate to the facade the Questionable Area was put under as a harmless campground. Character's prior exposure: In the game, I believe a style of music can relate to a highly stylized mental setting (in this context, this mean this mental setting is highly based on an existing setting with a lot of connotations, I will use the casino as an example) if it's fitting, but only if the character has had exposure in the past to the style of music. As an example, Hollis might not have been exactly listening to casino music (for lack of a better term, if not the jazz genre), but you could imagine she's experienced the style in her past if she's ever been in a casino and remembers it. In the game's plot, through her sudden unplanned connection to casinos, this music she has only passingly heard in the past resurges and comes to represent her mental scape without a deep personal connection to the style. The same could be said for Comton. He was probably not actively listening to cheesy gameshow music, but had only experienced it (this is corroborated by the IGN interview on Compton's Cookoff, where the staff said they styled his mind after a 60's game show, because that's what he would have watched growing up) in his past. When Comton's Cookoff became a thing, he used his memory of this style of music to represent Ram it Down.
And lastly, Character Sentimentality: Probably the most important connection. This presence of music within this meaning to characters was also present in the original Psychonauts with certain levels (e.x. Gloria's theatre, Basic braining, Meat Circus). A character has a genre or style of music that is sentimental to themselves, or represent themselves in their mind, and so gets used to represent their mental world. This is present in many levels including Psi King's Sensorium, where you can infer Psi King's past as a music performer from the music. (Fun fact the music in Psi King's Sensorium runs in 4/5!). Sentimentality is also clearly present in Fatherland Follies, where Gristol grows attached to the song he's created and is the soundtrack to his mind. I theorize that the 40's music present in Loboto's labyrinth gets used out of sentimentality. Since the music only fits the theme of his mind semi vaguely, not as strongly as the hospital casino or game show, I believe he is sentimental to the genre from growing up on it.
Post-theory additional information on the application of this theory: this theory can be applied to most soundtracks in Psychonauts 2, but some songs in the game may not have any of these meanings, and can be there just to set the mood. Like in Ford's follicles, or the backstage music in Fatherland Follies, which just sets a "dark, cautious" feel. I also think that you could append these meanings to some of the original Psychonauts soundtrack, but less across the board than Psychonauts, such as in Oleander's themes, the Meat Circus most obviously, and in Milla's Dance party, but I don't find I can derive as much information from the characters from those than from Psychonauts 2. In Psychonauts, for a character like Linda to have the Lungfishopolis music in her level could attest to the fact that it's less applicable or accurate to the original Psychonauts, as a fish she might not have been exposed to a lot of music (what a quote), although in her memory vault she has been seen watching tv. Actually, If Linda's mental world possibly is a mix of her and Oleander's mental scape, it can show that how Oleander at the time viewed himself in the context of Lungfishopolis and his feelings of grandeur.
This theory is important not because "look the music in Psychonauts 2 says something," but specifically, the ability to append where the music comes from for a character could allow you to learn something about the character that isn't explicit in the game, like I did for Loboto's Labyrinth in this post, if you properly infer which of the three meanings the music for a mental world is derived from.
I use this theory to provide evidence in another theory I wrote: Compton Boole Personality theory. PLEASE CHECK IT OUT IT MEANS A LOT TO ME I seriously believe this theory.
Compton Boole Personality Theory:
Thank you VERY much for reading, I think the beginning made the post come across as potentially boring, I tried to shorten or help that, but the contents of this theory are pretty thrilling to me, especially in the context of Compton Boole personality theory.

Psychonauts Theory revisit
The more I think about Psychonauts 2 the more I am convinced that Agent 33 is a Deluginist. I think she was recruited prior to the events of the game and responsible for putting the Maligula block in Loboto's head. Everyone talked about how a powerful psychic was required for him to break the office construct and a lot was made of the fact that Malik was not psychic. The line about Agent 33 being on vacation does not satisfy me. She manipulated her vacation to put her in the Lady Luctopus so that she could work with Malik undetected. She was used or recruited by the Deluginists, made Truman's kidnapping possible, and got away with it.
If we ever get a Psychonauts 2 DLC mission I want it to be about Helmut.
But if we ever get a SECOND Psychonauts 2 DLC mission I want it to expose Agent 33's crimes.
