hello ! im socstudies :)

i've been on studyblr for about five/six years now but i haven't always been active ...

i'm doing a reintroduction bc it's been a while and im about to start my second year of uni!

i study criminology and sociology (2nd year!)

i plan on going to grad school, hopefully in the us!

my research area interests are globalisation and the internet! specifically stan twt, kpop and other fandoms and how they've created a sort of culture of their own which transcend country borders!

i also post on instagram and tiktok! (studyingsoc on both!)

i have a lucky black cat who is the most perfect little cat in the whole world <333

it’s been FOREVER since i uploaded anything... uni has been stressful amongst other things, but hopefully i’m back on my feet now and am striving for an amazing semester!

my least favourite part of my degree is definitely statistics (i almost always lose sleep over all these random numbers and letters that have 0 meaning to me - existential crisis coming for sure).

here i am, the night before a stats seminar, stuffing my head into the holy bible of the module trying to get it all to go in.... which is not happening.

but hey, here’s to a better week next week!!

in an introductory lecture to my psychology research skills module, the lecturer told us that blogging our revision or study sessions helps to improve our intake of the knowledge we’re aiming to learn because we’re acknowledging what tasks we’ve managed to undertake and where we need to improve. at first i thought this was weird - why would i want to blog pages of my scruffy handwriting and lack of note taking skills to the public?! but after thinking it through, i realised; this is what everyone in the study or community on (and off) tumblr does! (except a lot are much better at note taking than myself and they have such elegant writing it’s satisfying to see). i realise this post should’ve come before my previous 2 but better late than never to introduce myself and my purpose of blogging/my studyblr! (although i’m sure no one really reads these things)

the gal behind this keyboard is a 19 year old nerd called billie-jayne (i’m not going to blame you if michael jackson references instantly came to mind, i get it a lot) or bee (b) for short. i’m in my first year studying my BSc degree in Psychology and Criminology at Birmingham City University. it’s terrifying but awfully exciting! it’d be great to get to know people also in the studyblr community throughout my journey at university (and to wherever life takes me afterwards). i’m studying 3 modules this semester and it’s overwhelming to say the least, but i’m determined to jump confidently over the upcoming hurdles this course and university life are most definitely going to through at me!

in other news (that’s still talking about myself - wow how self-centred can she get, huh?), i’ve been ridiculously under the weather lately and i haven’t left my student flat in about 5 days. hopefully this flu will leave me by monday as i have lectures all day and i don’t fancy going into them sneezing around everyone 🙄

because i haven’t been to my lectures & seminars all week, i’ve been having to catch up A LOT ready for the new week and i’m completely overwhelmed. luckily i only have 1 exam this semester (for my intro to psych module) and the rest is coursework so i can allow a few breathers here and there!!

thanks for taking the time to read this (if you did, give yourself a pat on the back, well done). if anyone has any questions about me, the course i’m studying or the university, or have any tips to surivive my 3 years in lectures full of 200+ people, i’m open to absolutely everything!!!

I’ve recently started my first year at university studying my BSc in Psychology & Criminology and I tell you what - I’m loving every minute. Never did I think I’d make it this far, nevermind get accepted onto my dream course!

it was rainy today and i loved it. this weather is my favourite (not sure if you’ve guessed that already) although getting caught in 20 minute long hard showers with no umbrella on my way home was not my idea of fun. i had a research skills seminar today and it was stressful - i’m terrible at staying on task so finding journal articles on childhood trauma and cognitive development proved hard.

i remembered i have my first criminology seminar tomorrow and i am in no way prepared. it’s on last weeks lecture and i wasn’t there (i was very present in my bed with a high fever, wishing i was anywhere but feeling like death). i rushed through the lecture presentations we have access to (saved my life, honestly) and made quick notes using my trusted criminology textbook seen in these pics. one of our lecturers (Professor David Wilson - somewhat of a famous man may i add 💁🏼‍♀️) likes to pick on about 7 or 8 poor souls and gets them to tell everyone (200 people in our lectures - mental) what they’ve heard/read in the news in that week about crime and punishmeny. so every week all of us (i’m certain) rush around on the internet, scrolling through news sites after news sites digging up what’s been happening in the dark world of crime. it’s one heck of a dark path. i’m praying he doesn’t pick on me tomorrow but nothing seems to go in my favour when it comes to university so...

i hope you had a good wednesday and i hope it wasn’t as panicky and rushed as mine. if it was - take a breath and relax; it’ll all be fine. you’ve got this.

happy saturday!!

i’ve been feeling better today, health wise, but because of the medication i’ve been taking over the past week i’ve felt so drained mentally and physically today that i got hardly any work done (not half as much as i had wanted to anyway). i’d usually manage to finish all my notes on a good day but i have to keep reminding myself - everyone has bad days and just because you didn’t finish your notes today doesn’t mean you’re going to fail. luckily tomorrow is sunday which (obviously) means no classes or lectures so i can utilise all of tomorrow to studying and getting biological psychology back into my brain. we start a new topic next week (cognitive psychology) so i need to make sure i understand this first. *praying that it all suddenly just clicks*

the notes i have above are the ones i thought were acceptable for tumblr viewing - the rest i can’t even read let alone anyone scrolling through the studyblr tag at 2am. biological psychology used to be a strong point for me but clearly university has proven that it really isn’t. hopefully once i’ve drilled these piles of notes and diagrams and statistics into my brain ready for the exam (*cries*) at the end of the semester, i’ll be a master and will be spilling bio terms to anyone and everyone.

i hope your saturday was more productive than mine! if it wasn’t or was at the same level (high procrastination, low studying) then do not fear, tomorrow is always near!

i’ve been watching GBBO whilst studying biological psychology (specifically emotion) today and noel fielding has been getting me through the confusing theories which ironically determine why i’m so stressed.

in other news, i’ve got the flu and am going to miss my crimes and punishment (criminology) evening lecture today so i’m going to be a busy bee tomorrow catching up *praying for self*

messy notes vs re-done, pretty (still somewhat messy) notes and a grainy version of my view to university this morning for a 2-hour (extremely boring) lecture on academic writing and essay planning - i may or may not have almost fallen asleep halfway through.

it feels good to be back at uni after pretty much a week off, being out in the cold and rainy weather was somewhat refreshing! (can you tell i love the winter?)

as i’m writing this, i haven’t finishing writing up my notes from today’s lecture but it’s 10.10pm and Luther and GBBO are calling me to indulge in a binge session. i have tomorrow off so my day will be spent pulling my hair out trying to understand APA referencing (if anyone has any tips then please send them my way, i will be eternally thankful).

i hope your monday was a productive one but if not, i hope it was enjoyable nonetheless!
