wait people think Ben is an idiot? one of the defining moments of the franchise, to me at least, is when he first turns into alien x and makes an incredibly well reasoned argument to get the two sides to a unanimous agreement to act.

he's not an idiot, they probably are still reconciling that he was acting like a 10-year-old... when he was 10 years old. and acting like a teenager... when he was a teenager.

Admittedly, it's more of an older fandom issue. You notice it the more years you go back. The fics around the time UAF was airing had this problem BAD.

There are still fans around nowadays who think Ben is a drooling imbecile, but 1) they tend not to write fics that prominently feature Ben, anyway (and I don't bother reading those, lol), and 2) they're very easy to block :)

I guess, to be fair to the older fans, UA also treated Ben like he's an idiot.

oh man YES like. the whole argument about Izuku not getting taught about not breaking his bones? he took the test at end of February (canon date was the 26th iirc), started new school just over a month later, fought the nomu a week after that, sports festival (and internships) two weeks after THAT... the timeline put so much in it that Yagi KNEW he wasn't the best teacher super fast. what do they expect of him, having two days of one on one time when he was teaching AT LEAST 1B as well. which is assuming he wasn't also aiding in second and third year heroics classes. Yagi and Izuku worked SO HARD in such a short time to get control over it all. Yagi was learning and working how to be a better teacher from the outset, and he's grown so far in that

it's just... really annoying when the series timeline has been so compressed (manga current is at "it's been 10 months since Kamino Ward") and they're complaining that everything hasn't been happening fast enough for them?

Jesus, it's only been ten months since Kamino Ward??? That's... insane. Japan society really did just collapse in a couple months. Wild.

But honestly, I can't even say anything because you're 100% right. Yagi essentially had less than two months to help train Izuku with a quirk neither knew how to work properly - well, closer to one month really, because it doesn't seem that Izuku used OFA during that period between the exam and starting UA, iirc. Considering how bad he was of a teacher at the start, you're totally right to say that Yagi has come so far as a teacher and a mentor to Izuku. Blaming him for Izuku's self destruction, ehhhhh. It doesn't feel right to me.

Izuku's core character is self-destructive, especially without Yagi's interference. Yagi cannot stop Izuku from doing something when he puts his mind to it and really, no one can either. We see this time and time again, from rescuing Bakugo, to the sports festival, to the Vigilante Arc (and yes I will never stop talking about that arc). And I'm not victim blaming Izuku. Heroics and Japan society is inherently bias, we live in a society, yadda yadda yadda. But imo, it's ridiculous to blame Yagi for one of Izuku's defining traits. (Especially when people who bash him for it tend to ignore that every other teacher in UA didn't do jackshit either, and they were experienced teachers.)

And even in his bad teaching moments, let's not forget Yagi genuinely wants best for Izuku. Hell, during the battle trial in s1, he doesn't stop Izuku and Bakugo because he knew Izuku wanted to prove himself. Was it a bad call? Maybe. But was it done from a good place? Of course. And remember, at this point he's been a teacher for two (2) whole days. King's bound to make a few mistakes.

With your last point, I think people complaining abt the timeline, or how fast the series is happening right now, are completely overlooking one thing. This is a shonen anime/manga. A semi battle-centric one, nonetheless. The only asspulls are for power-ups, not character development.

In reality, overlooking the progress Yagi and Izuku have made together completely undermines their journey. When people complain that Yagi isn't being a good enough teacher, it's just... yeah nah. Try teach someone a subject that neither you nor them know in a couple months, because that's what Yagi is effectively doing.

in Voltron Survivor, Coran's the host. Allura, Keith, and Shiro are all the ones everyone guesses as most likely to win, but Allura over does it and gets voted off, Shiro's a "really sorry but if any of us have a chance it's only because you're not here" voted off, and Keith gets an injury and nearly fistfights the medic helicopter to stay in the game. Hunk manages well and goes pretty far before he ends up making a reverse alliance where everyone votes him off and he's visibly trying not to cheer as his flame is snuffed. Lance surprises everyone by winning bc he's just so friend-shaped and that disarms anyone from voting him off

YES LOL I think he goes in super cocky, but by week two he's ditched smack talk and is all about forming natural alliances and making sure the camp has it's bases covered, which can't help but to endear him to the competition. He talked shit out the gate but I think would truly be such a team player AND such a hype man, when his head wasn't on the chopping block lol, and he doesn't get voted off consistently bc everyone's got bigger fish to fry, and low-key think that if they got to the final council with him they would get more votes. Next thing they know, the underdog has become the rock of the tribe 😩👌

Re: chicken raising, be ready to install some wire fencing. My neighbors have chickens & one kept getting out to visit the fallen scraps of our bird feeder (also their family of ducks but that’s not relevant). Chickens are wily and CAN find some way to get out and wander a neighbors yard.

Also be aware of who has Big Dogs that manage to get out bc we once had neighbors with huskies, one got out while chicken was loose & then there was one less chicken. (Those neighbors with huskies have since moved) It might not happen to you but it IS a potential consequence of chickens getting loose

Things I find hilarious: the majority of the straw hat crew only know Buggy from the papers, so whenever they cross paths nobody is gonna anticipate how readily Zoro Nami and Luffy are gonna join in on clowning on him (luffy out of friendship)

the world: shaking, changing, and brand new by cydbys is a girl meets world larkle fic and probably my fave fic of all time. it is so simple but so beautiful and for my fave ship that gets no love....... its everything to me

the 'dates and times' series by beloved ao3 user stackofhay aka @snelwords - literally broke me down and rebuilt me. my top reread fic series of the year for sure. if i had an ao3 wrapped it would be embarrassing.

and finally ill throw in a fic thats long as hell - black to blue by puppetmaster55 is a voltron fic (do not judge me i will end you) that is part of a thus far unfinished series but as a character study enthusiast the first part delights me so. i love and miss them <3
