Amnesia
Pairing: Steve Rogers x Reader
Word count: 4,141
Summary: You and the Avengers are on a mission when you take a hit to the head, leading to amnesia. Steve and the rest of the Avengers struggle to cope as they realize it may not be temporary.
Warnings: Little angst, mild violence.
A/N: This is a fic from my old blog Purpleocity. All future fics will be posted here at bwemph :)
Tumblr media
You let out a soft groan as you stretched and rolled over, facing Steve who lay on the bed next to you. He watched you with a loving gaze and smiled as you sleepily stared at him.
“Hello,” you said, placing a hand on his chest. He softly hummed in response and pressed a kiss to your forehead. “How long was I asleep?” you asked.
He glanced over at the clock. It was almost half past two in the afternoon. “About a half hour. Do you feel better?”
You sighed and ran your fingers through your hair, scooting closer to him. “Yeah. I’m sleepy now.” You hid your face in his chest, smiling at the way it shook as he chuckled. He touched your cheek and you looked up at him again.
His eyes held such a joy you thought he might explode. “What?  Are you okay?” you asked.
He laughed softly and pulled her into his embrace. “Yeah, I was just thinking about how much I love you.”
You hummed. “How much might that be?"
He cocked an eyebrow and looked as if he were going to make a little sarcastic comment, but the look melted and a gentle smile graced his features. "More than you can imagine.”
You bit your lip as you smiled. “I love you too.”
Steve’s chaste kiss found your lips. Your eyes fluttered shut as you returned it. You felt butterflies in your stomach and you rested a hand on his cheek before he pulled away.
“Hungry?” he asked.
You nodded. “Starved.”
“Lunch?”
“Sounds great.”
-----
You ducked as a punch was thrown at your head. You stood straight and grabbed your attacker’s arm, twisting it and then elbowing him in the side. You kicked his feet out from under him and then zapped him with your lightning, leaving him unconscious. Another HYDRA agent ran at you, brandishing a weapon. You swept his feet out from under him and electrocuted him.
Tony flew over and shot a repulsor beam at a cluster of HYDRA agents. Not long after, Natasha sprung from the shadows and began fighting a group of three people.
You glanced to the right and saw Steve being driven backward. He punched the agent in the stomach, then hit him across the face with his shield. The agent fell to the ground and Steve looked at you with a smile. It disappeared, sending a silent message.
You whipped around and shocked two agents that attempted to sneak up on you. You smirked as they tensed up and fell to the ground. Steve nodded to you, his smile reappearing.
“Captain Rogers!” Thor called from nearby to catch his attention. He shot a beam of his lighting and Steve deflected it, mowing down another group of agents.
More people flooded from the base they were raiding. Arrows fell from the sky, and you guessed Clint was nearby firing them off.
“Bruce, I think this is a code green,” Natasha said over comms.
“Are you sure?” his response came. She glanced at Steve, who nodded in agreement.
“I’m sure,” she replied. Bruce didn’t respond, but they heard a nearby roar from “the other guy”.
You were pulled behind Steve’s shield as a spray of bullets came from the large group of HYDRA agents. The Avengers were far outnumbered and outgunned, but you had your hopes high.
You gave a small smile to Steve, who winked in reply. You conjured a ball of lightning to your palm, sending it into the crowd of adversaries. Several cries were heard as they fell, but it only weakened their numbers by a fraction. The Hulk showed up quickly, jumping into the chaos.
“Avengers, asse—” Steve was cut off as he was knocked off his feet from a blast of an agent’s weapon.
You startled and reached in his direction. He lay there a little disoriented. “You good?” you asked.
He gathered his wits and pushed himself back to his feet. He nodded.
“Good,” you laughed, “I thought I’d have to call Life Alert.”
He glared and raised an eyebrow at you, but your teasing ended there. The Avengers collected and ran at the HYDRA agents in front of them. You shot bolts of lightning this way and that, sending agents tumbling and unconscious. Steve’s shield bounced off several agents, and back to him. You jumped up and kicked a HYDRA goon in the chest, propelling yourself from him and landing back on your feet before you knocked out another with a bolt of electricity.
“Y/N,” Steve called, hurling his shield, which hit three people before it came to you. You caught it and threw it back to Steve with a wink.
“I got you, babe,” you flirted. He would have made a little comeback but he was startled as you zapped a soldier behind him.
You occupied yourself with three agents who started ganging up on you. You were backed into a small half circle of trees. One pulled a gun on you. You lunged for his wrist, twisting his arm behind his back. He let out a pained cry and elbowed you in the stomach. You held your abdomen and stumbled backwards.
You regained yourself and then quickly butterfly kicked him, sending him to the ground. The other two ran at you, but you rolled on your shoulder, shocking the one you just took down, then standing to face the other two. You dropped into a fighting stance and awaited the attackers’ next move. One ran at you and you thrust your hand to his chest, summoning all the electricity you could in a split second. He fell limp. Your other attacker made a grab for your neck, but you ducked and punched him in the stomach. He doubled over, but didn’t fall. He made to punch you, but you drove your knee into his stomach while he was open. You elbowed him in the side of the head, but he caught your arm, twisting it and making you let out a sharp cry.
While you were occupied, your first foe pushed himself from the ground, dusting the dirt from his uniform. He saw the scuffle between you and your current adversary, and joined in. He threw a punch, but you pulled your arm free and blocked it, then ducked as the other tried to hit you as well. You dropped to the ground and swept the feet out from under one, while the other tried throwing another punch. You stood straight again and made to elbow the agent in the stomach, but he blocked. You punched; he blocked. You kicked; he blocked. You threw another punch, and then you found yourself being shoved backward from a kick. You yelped before you hit the tree, then suddenly you were on the ground.
You were seeing stars and losing your vision and hearing quickly. Your heart rate sped up. Both agents approached, but the last thing you remembered was two gunshots and their bodies falling limp to the ground.
Steve heard you cry out and he kicked a HYDRA agent, sending him backward. He looked in the direction of your voice and saw you hit a tree and fall to the ground, unmoving. His eyes widened.
“Natasha!” he called out. She followed his gaze, and as if she didn’t even think about it, shot down the two agents advancing on you. He nodded to Natasha in thanks.
Steve looked around the area, seeing this was a hopeless effort. “We need to retreat!” he said into comms.
“Copy that,” Tony replied. Steve put his shield on his back and ran to you, picking you up bridal style and holding you close to his chest. He was relieved when he saw you were merely unconscious.
“That’s right. You’re good,” he murmured more to himself than you. He jogged back toward the quinjet, hoping whatever injuries you’d sustained weren’t too severe.
-----
The flight back to New York seemed endless. Steve was relieved when they landed. They got you to the doctors as quick as they could.
He paced outside your room with his hands folded behind his back. He walked to the window and stared out at the setting sun.
“Captain Rogers,” Dr. Cho said, closing your door behind herself. Steve turned, a hopeful gleam in his eye. He took note of Dr. Cho’s calm nature, which must have meant you weren’t too severely injured.
“Is she alright?” he blurted. He pursed his lips and ran a hand through his hair.
Dr. Cho held back a smile. “I ran a few tests on her. It looks like she’s received some head trauma. Pretty serious head trauma at that. It shouldn’t have too much of an effect. I’d imagine she’ll only be unconscious for a while.”
“Do you have an estimation of how long?” he asked.
Dr. Cho thought for a moment, placing a hand on her hip. “I’m not entirely sure. Anywhere between two to seven hours. Maybe even longer.”
Steve felt himself tense and sighed. “Can I see her?”
“Absolutely. Go on in.”
Steve nodded in thanks and opened your door. He saw you lying in your bed as if you were asleep. You looked very peaceful despite the little bruises and cuts that were scattered across your face. He approached the side of your bed and gazed at you with worry gripping him. He caressed your cheek and softly pressed a kiss to your forehead. He pulled up the stool from your desk and sat, folding his hands and resting his chin on them. He waited patiently.
Minutes passed slowly as he waited. He only left once or twice to get something to eat or stretch his legs after a couple hours, but he stayed by your side otherwise. He picked up a book from one of the shelves and started reading. He only got a couple chapters in before you stirred. He set the book aside and his eyes brightened as you crinkled your nose and slowly opened your eyes.
“Hey, Angelface.”
Confusion twisted your features for a moment. You were silent. “Um…” you slowly sat up. Your hand flew to your head. “Ow…”
“Yeah, you took quite a hit back there.”
You looked him over, your eyes searching him as if you were looking for something. “What happened?”
“We were raiding a HYDRA base and you hit your head. I’m so glad you’re alright.” Steve leaned over and hugged you. You tensed and politely nudged him back. You had a look of concern molding your features.
“Are you okay?” he asked, gently touching the side of your face.
You hesitated. “Um…do I know you?”
Steve knit hit eyebrows and withdrew his hand. “Y/N, it’s me. It’s Steve.” You studied him for a long time. You scanned his features intently. When you didn’t reply, his heart dropped.
“Wait a second…” you mused. Steve felt a flicker of hope. “You’re Steve Rogers…Captain America!”
That wasn’t exactly the answer he was looking for.
“Wait…but you’re dead.” You looked just as confused as he did moments ago.
“I…I was, I guess.”
“Then how—”
“It’s a long story,” Steve cut in. “Hey, you’ve been out for a while, what do you say I go get you something to eat?”
“That’d be great. Thank you.”
Steve stood and left your room, quietly closing the door behind himself. He sighed and let his gaze drop to the floor.
“Cap, is Y/N okay?” Tony asked as he and Natasha approached. Steve hesitated. “She’s…fine.”
“But?” Natasha cued.
Steve closed his eyes again and looked out the window, turning to face it. “She doesn’t know who I am.”
Natasha tilted her head. “What do you mean?”
“I mean,” He turned back to Nat and Tony, “she has amnesia. She doesn’t remember me. She thinks…she thinks I’m still in the ice. I don’t even think she knows she’s an Avenger anymore.”
The words hurt to say. He hoped to God it was temporary.
“Let me talk to her,” Tony suggested. Steve shrugged, not stopping Tony as he entered your room.
-----
Questions stirred in your brain. You weren’t entirely sure what you were doing in this room, though it was vaguely familiar. You wondered if it was some sort of recovery room. You furrowed your brow as you thought about the fact that Captain America was awaiting your awakening. Someone knocked on the door, pulling you from your train of thought before it could go anywhere.
“Come in,” you called. When the door opened, you saw a familiar face. Then it came back to you. “Tony? What are you doing here?”
He smiled at you and approached the side of your bed. “I live here.”
“This is your apartment?”
He snickered. “You could call it that. It’s Stark Tower. I built it. This is your room.”
You squinted. “Really?”
Tony nodded. “Yep.” He sighed. “You have amnesia, Sparky.”
Sparky. You remembered that nickname. Where from though? You didn’t realize how quiet you were or how long you thought.
“Sparky?” Tony tried. “Y/N…”
You snapped out of your trance and looked to Tony. “I have a feeling we’re close…right?”
Tony nodded. “Somewhat. Not as close as you and Cap, but…”
“Cap?”
“Steve.”
You nodded. “How do I know him?” you asked.
You could tell Tony tried not to snicker. “You two are…you’re kinda…you guys…” He shut up and thought for a second. “He’s your boyfriend.”
You squinted at Tony. “I don’t have a…” you trailed off. You shared an awkward glance with him. “I’m sorry. I…I think I need to sleep. Everything’s a little fuzzy right now.”
“Yeah. Uh, you do that.” He took a few steps toward the door. “Let JARVIS know if you need anything.”
“Jarvis?”
Tony glanced upward. “The AI. You’ll meet him soon enough.”
You nodded as he walked away.
You watched him close the door. You then glanced around ‘your room’. You bit your lip and took in each of your surroundings. You flipped the blankets back and swung your legs over the edge of the bed. You stood and paced to the window, glancing out over the city. The sun was setting slowly, casting an orange light along with shadows from the skyscrapers. You then crossed to your desk. You saw a picture of yourself and your mother smiling. You had vague memories of that day. You’d gone to a festival and gotten copious amounts of cotton candy and gotten sick. You pushed the thought aside and went on, running your fingertips over the top of the desk. You looked in the mirror and glanced at your reflection. You had a fairly decent wound on the side of your head and your eye was generously blackened, with several other scrapes and cuts about your features. You sighed and glanced at another picture. It was you and Captain Rogers. He stood with his arm around you, pressing a kiss to the top of your head. You were smiling brightly in the picture, and a soft blush covered your cheeks. You stared at the picture for a long time.
You felt heat rise in your face the longer you stared. You wished you remembered that. It seemed like it must have been a wonderful thing, being in love with Captain America himself. You picked up the picture, looking at it for a few moments longer before you laid it on the desk face down. You went back to bed, falling asleep soon after pulling the blankets up over your shoulder and laying down your head.
-----
"You know, brooding isn’t gonna help you much.“ Natasha found Steve in the lounge staring at the wall.
"I’m not brooding–”
“You’re brooding.”
“…just thinking,” he finished with a small glare. She sat on the couch next to him and rested a hand on his shoulder.
“Whatcha thinking about?” she asked in a softer tone.
He rubbed his eyes and sighed. “Y/N.”
Natasha have him a sympathetic look. “I understand this is rough. Is there anything I can do to help?”
“Probably not.” He stared at the wall again. “Thanks though.”
Natasha nodded in response and patted his shoulder. She stood and crossed to the doorway, stopping for a moment. She turned back to him. “Just let me know, 'kay?”
Steve nodded. He looked up with his puppy dog stare as she walked away.
-----
The days passed as they normally would for Steve, save for the lack of you. He was surprised with himself and how often he wanted to go see you just for a cuddle or a quick kiss and even to see how you were doing. He had also realized how often he would most nights end up falling asleep with you before you lost your memories. His drive to go to you and just snuggle your memories back was surprisingly intense. He fought it for your comfort’s sake.
Every couple days, you would get a random memory. They were mostly scattered pieces and random things like a picture you drew for a friend or your sixth birthday. There was a point when you remembered going to see your family. You couldn’t remember why you were doing that, but you were told it was because you’d been working with the Avengers and hadn’t seen your family in a while. You hadn’t had many memories of working with the Avengers at all. Anything having to do with your relationships with them was very fuzzy and distorted.
Steve would spend what time he could with you when you were in a central area and he wasn’t busy. You both got along pretty well, but it was hard having to start from square one again with you.
-----
“So are we going to address…you know,” you said, breaking the silence between the two of you as you looked through some old pictures of yourself on the iPad Tony had given you, “or are we going to act like it didn’t happen?” Steve was caught somewhat off guard by that, but he closed his book and looked up at you. “Well I figured since you don’t remember…I-I thought we’d leave it.”
“Oh come on, you act like it doesn’t hurt. It’s obvious that it bothers you.” You laughed softly and set aside your device. You tucked your legs under yourself as you locked your gaze with Steve’s. He didn’t respond to what you said. He simply cast his eyes downward, rolling his lips. You tilted your head at him. “I can tell it bothers you because you do that little thing where you run your fingers through your hair and sigh and you rest your hand on the back of your neck,” you prompted.
He perked up and looked to you. “Wait what?”
“I said–”
“No, no, you remembered something.”
“Oh.” You shrugged and bit your lip. “I kinda knew that I guess. Your mannerisms are very familiar. It’s partly why I sort of make an effort to be around you. You’re the most familiar thing I have right now.”
Steve found himself involuntary smiling. “Really?”
You shrugged. “Yeah. That and your voice. I like listening to you speak.”
He laughed quietly and moved from the chair diagonal to you to the couch cushion next to you, making sure he was at a friendly distance as not to cross any boundaries.
“That’s not my point though,” you reminded. Steve nodded. He exhaled and looked around the room.
“Well what is there to talk about?”
You looked at the floor and thought. “What happened? The day I lost my memories…I wanna know everything in as much detail as you can give.”
“Oh, well, um…”
He explained the mission and the situation. Your adorable flirting and the quips you threw at each other were some things he remembered with surprisingly vivid detail. You were surprised. He explained the way that you had been cornered and thrown back before you hit your head. He tried to keep the plane ride brief too.
“Honestly, I was worried you wouldn’t wake up. I–” he trailed off.
You waited in suspense. “You…?”
Steve shook his head and waved the matter off. “It’s nothing. I’m just glad you’re alright.” He sat back on the couch and folded his hands in his lap. You rested your hand ever so softly on his shoulder, making him look up and meet your eyes. “I’m really sorry.”
“No, no, don’t be.”
“No, I see how much this hurts you. I honestly wish I remembered what we had. It must have been great. I just…I’m sorry.”
He shrugged. “Nothing you can do to fix it. It’s alright.”
You leaned in and pressed a kiss to Steve’s cheek. You blushed and stood, giving him a little smile before exiting the room. He watched you leave, a feeling of sadness hitting him. There you were, leaving again and you still weren’t his. He ran his fingers through his hair and then rested his hand on the back of his neck. He laughed softly when he noticed he actually does that.
-----
You ran a hand across the shelf in your closet with a sigh. Every now and then you would find something that would make you ask yourself if you actually wore that.
You left your closet and looked at the books on your bookshelf. You ran your fingertips over them and looked out at the cars driving by below. The sun was starting to sink behind the New York skyline. You sat on your bed and started staring into space.
You felt a sense of regret within, not for anything you had done, but for what you couldn’t do. You wanted to remember. You felt as if you had lost a piece of yourself with your memories. You had an amazing life. Hell, you were a superhero! That was your dream as a child with parents working with SHIELD. Not to mention what you must have had with Steve. He seemed like a great guy. You sighed again and lay back.
To your dismay, you found that your headboard was closer than you thought, and it collided with the back of your head. You let out a surprised yelp and you sat up quickly. Your hand flew to the back of your head. You felt your head ache, and stars spattered your vision. You swore under your breath and grit your teeth. That hurt a lot. Almost as much as when you hit it the first time, only there’s was less snow and you…wait a second.
Despite the throbbing headache you had now, you were smiling brightly and your heart jumped with joy. You stood and stumbled a couple steps, then hurried to Steve’s room.
When you got there, you didn’t even knock. you threw the door open and found Steve halfway to where you were. He froze mid step and wore a confused expression.
You smiled brightly. “Steve…” you breathed before running to him. You threw your arms around him and kissed him full on the lips with passion. You laughed and smiled into the kiss, placing your hands on either side of his neck. He reluctantly returned your kiss and rested his hands on your waist. You pulled back for a moment, laughing joyously.
“I remember!” you exclaimed. Steve’s eyes lit up, and he returned your ecstatic laughter. He picked you up and spun you around, and when you were back on your feet, his lips crashed into yours again.
You kissed and giggled and laughed and kissed some more. Steve would whisper “I love you” between each kiss, and each kiss grew more passionate.
You both ended up tangled together on the bed, all of your kisses and touches lost within a blur of joy and excitement.
You prolonged the kiss as much as you could, but eventually, you had to breathe. You hesitantly pulled away from each other. Steve rested his forehead on yours and wrapped his arms snug around your waist. He kissed your nose.
“I love you,” Steve murmured again as he buried his face in your shoulder, hugging you tightly.
“I love you too,” you replied equally as quiet. You still found yourself unable to stop smiling. You pushed yourself back a little so you  could look into his eyes. You couldn’t quite tell what emotions were behind them, you just knew there were many. Your brow furrowed a little in confusion. “What?"
"I just love you so much,” he said, squeezing you.
“You said that already,” you teased.
He laughed. “I figured it was worth repeating. I missed having you.”
You smiled and ran your fingertips over his chest. “You’re the best,” you murmured sleepily.
“I’m not so sure about that.”
“Oh hush. Let me love you.” You laughed softly, pressing a kiss to his lips again.
The pair of you shared many sleepy kisses and soft laughter as you dozed off.

Secrets
Pairing: Peter Parker x Reader
Request: @cherrykarts Could I get a Peter Parker x shy reader where Pete breaks things off bc he doesn’t want to see her hurt, but when he goes to the avengers tower it turns out she’s an avenger and she’s crying and stuff with Wanda and fluffy happy end? Idk
Word count: 2,400
Summary: After breaking up with Peter, you go to Wanda for comfort. When Peter shows up at the Compound unexpectedly, it turns out you both have secrets to share.
Warnings: Mild angst, light swearing, Peter being an absolute dork :)
A/N: This is a fic from my old blog Purpleocity. All future fics will be posted here at bwemph :)
Tumblr media
“I just…I don’t think this is going to work.”
Your heart dropped, tears already threatening to spill over. Your brows furrowed. Why was Peter being like this? You two had been together for six months now. What changed? Everything was fine until just recently. He got that “Stark Internship” and he started acting all strange, now he’s breaking up with you out of nowhere? It just didn’t make sense.
“Peter, what do you mean ‘this isn’t going to work’?” Your voice shook a little as your crossed your arms. You leaned back against his wall, sinking a little further into his mattress. Your thoughts raced back through everything you could have done wrong, but it was all little stuff. Things that shouldn’t have mattered. You thought everything was going fine between the two of you.
“It’s just…It’s really complicated.” He reached out to you in order to take your hand, but you pulled it away, your vision blurring with tears. You bit your lip to keep back the sob that hitched your breath.
You shook your head. “’It’s complicated’? What’s gotten into you?” You asked as you stood up. He stood to meet you. “You’ve been acting so weird lately. You’re always disappearing. And you’ve been at least ten minutes late to almost every single one of our dates in the last month!” He opened his mouth to say something, but you cut him off. “Just the other day I came over after school like you asked me to and you weren’t even here. Aunt May said she didn’t know where you were either. What, is there someone else? Are you…” You faltered a little, your heart dropping even further. You didn’t even want to say it for fear of the answer being yes, “…are you cheating on me?”
“Y/n, please just let me explain.” He took your hand again. You shirked away as he tried to hug you. You turned away, watching his reflection in the mirror with stone cold eyes. Your phone buzzed, and you glanced down.
Tony Stark: We’ve got a situation. Get here as soon as you can.
You cursed under your breath, looking back up at Peter. “I have to go.” You pushed past him.
“Wha- Y/n, please,” he practically begged, reluctantly letting go of your hand as you crossed the room to open his door. “Don’t go.”
“I gotta. I’ll–I’ll see you at school.”
You closed his door behind yourself a little harder than you’d intended, lowering your head as you made for the apartment door.
“You’re not staying for dinner?” May asked as she looked up from a mixing bowl. “I’m making your favorite cookies for desert.” She nodded toward the cookies in the oven. They almost tempted you.
You sniffed, quickly drying a few rebellious tears before turning to her. “I, uh, I have to be somewhere. Thanks, though. Maybe another time.” You mustered a smile and picked up your backpack, slipping your shoes on.
“Is everything okay?”
You sighed. “Probably not, but don’t worry about it. It’ll be alright. See ya, May.” With a wave, you left before she could further question you. You made for the Compound as quick as you could, though you had some down time in the back of the car before you got there. You allowed a few silent tears to fall, holding back the real deal for later as not to make things awkward for the chauffeur. You scrolled through your pictures on your phone, still unable to wrap your head around the situation. You half hoped this was maybe just a bad dream. You dried with your hoodie sleeve another tear that dropped onto your phone screen.
When you arrived, Tony was already standing outside to meet you. He walked you inside. “Well, I needed you in the moment,” he explained, “but we got it handled before you showed up.”
You shrugged one shoulder, putting a hand in your pocket. “Sorry. I got here as quick as I could.”
He clapped you on the back for reassurance. “Don’t worry about it, kid.” He paused, removing his glasses and moving to stand in front of you. “You okay?” His hand remained on your shoulder.
You forgot you’d worn mascara that day, which was probably smeared and streaking your face at this point. You sighed, shrugging. “Don’t worry about it. It’s just boy trouble.”
Tony gave a sympathetic look. “Boys are literally the scum of the earth.” He took a moment to snarl at the thought of whoever had hurt you. “Whoever he is, he’s a douchebag. Let me know if I have to hit him.”
You laughed softly. “Thanks, Mr. Stark.” He winked in response. You sniffled again. “Is Wanda here?”
Tony nodded. “Up in her room.”
You wasted no time as you hurried up to her room. You weren’t sure how much longer any more tears could remain unshed.
You hovered in her doorway, making sure she was alone. She sat on her bed, plucking her guitar. She hummed a soft melody and took notes on whatever little riff she just made up. Her eyes lit up when she looked up and saw you. She set the guitar back in its stand and ran to hug you.
“Y/n! What are you doing here?” She pulled away and her smile vanished in an instant. “What’s wrong?” She touched your arm in an attempt to comfort whatever was bothering you.
“Do you have any makeup remover?” you asked, breathing a laugh as you assumed you were a mess. You glanced down at your phone when it vibrated, but you ignored it.
“Yeah, yeah, come here.” She led you to the bathroom and handed you a container of makeup wipes. You looked in the mirror, somewhat amused despite your broken heart. You started with your eyes. “What happened?” Wanda asked, hovering close to your side.
You removed the makeup from your other eye before answering. “Peter broke up with me.” You choked up, biting your lips. You didn’t want to cry again. He’s just a stupid boy. Why did it matter?
He wasn’t just a stupid boy, that’s why it mattered; this was Peter.
Wanda gasped, pulling you into a hug as your tears started flowing again. “Why? What happened?”
You hid your face, your voice muffled by her red sweater, which was now gaining dark splotched from yourr tears. “I think he was cheating on me.”
She gave a hum of disapproval, leading you to sit down on her bed. You proceeded to explain everything that pointed toward his disloyalty: his weird absences, being late or sometimes not showing up at all to dates or when you were supposed to hang out, and how weird he’d act when you asked where he was. You shouldn’t have let it go so easily. You knew something was up and shouldn’t have ignored it. She listened to you vent for the next while, comforting you where she saw fit.
- - -
“Peter, dinner is ready,” May called softly as she poked her head into Peter’s room. He looked up from his phone, sending you numerous text messages. You didn’t reply to any of them. “Is everything okay? Y/n looked upset when she left.”
Peter dropped his head again, letting his phone fall onto his bed. “Uh, no, not really.”
“Why don’t you come talk about it over dinner, then?” May offered, gesturing for him to follow her. They sat at the table together. Peter explained what was up, poking at his spaghetti absentmindedly, but eating very little.
He wanted to protect you. Now that he was Spiderman, everyone he knew and loved would be in danger. He wanted to keep you safe most of all. He cared about you so much, and he regretted every time he had to take a raincheck or be late to see you. He always wanted to be around you, but saving the world would make that hard. Villains kidnapping or killing you would make that even harder, so he decided to break things off in order to keep you safe.
“I understand why you did that, but there’s plenty of other things you could do to protect her. You didn’t have to break up with her,” May said, reaching across the table to touch his hand. “Are you going to eat?
He sighed and shook his, the corners of his mouth being tugged down. “I screwed it up now. I don’t think I can get her back.”
Before May could say anything, Peter heard his special ringtone he had set for Happy. His eyes widened and he stood and scrambled to his room.
“Hello? Hi, yeah. It’s Peter.”
“You’re late for your training session, Peter. I’ve been out here for twenty minutes!” Happy snapped over the line.
A hand went to his forehead and he rushed to grab his things. “Shit! I’m so sorry, Happy. I’ll be out in a minute.” He rushed to throw the rest of his things he needed into his backpack and swiped a handful of cookies from the jar as he rushed out the door. “Sorry, Aunt May,” he mumbled around his mouthful of cookie. “I had to be at the Compound like a half hour ago! Bye, love you!”
He rushed out to the car where Happy stood, his arms crossed and a glare set deep in his features. Peter got in and said nothing on the way to the compound. Happy didn’t ask. In fact, he reveled in the fact that Peter shut up for once.
- - -
Sweaty and exhausted, Peter left the training room. The personal trainer worked him harder than usual today, probably because he was late. He stumbled out of the training room and into the common area, chugging a glass of water.
“Peter?” you said, eyes wide. He startled, fumbling with the glass. “What the hell are you doing here?” You dropped the apple slice you were holding into the bowl of caramel as you stood. Wanda eyed both of you, looking very confused.
“Wait a minute, that’s Peter?” she said with her brow furrowed.
“You two know each other?” Peter asked, pointing between the two of you.
You put your hands on your hips. “I asked my question first.” Your voice was a little too calm to be okay with the current situation. He crossed to meet you, rubbing his hands together nervously.
“Well, uh…” He glanced between the two of you. “I’m kinda an Avenger?”
You furrowed your brow. “Why didn’t you tell me?” You threw your hands in the air with exasperation.
He stuttered as he gestured between you and Wanda. “Well why didn’t you tell me?” he asked you, equally as irritated. “It’s what I was going to tell you! I’m freaking Spiderman!”
You were taken aback, and you hugged yourself, unsure what to think. A thousand thoughts raced through your mind. Peter was the Spiderman? Since when? You thought he’d just been working out, not suddenly training as a superhero! You looked to Wanda, who seemed about as confused as you were. “Well then I guess we have to work on our communication skills…” you said eventually, your tension easing.
Peter laughed a little. “Yeah…” he sighed and reached out to take your hand. “Look, I know I probably screwed up any chance I had with you, but am I allowed to take back what I said before? I didn’t really mean it when I said things weren’t working out…I lied. Sorry.”
Your shoulders relaxed further. You felt a little embarrassed. “Well I haven’t exactly been honest with you either.”
Peter laughed a little, stroking your knuckles with his thumb. “It’s okay. Since we’re telling each other our darkest secrets right now, can I tell you something else?”
“Hit me.”
He cleared his throat, rubbing the back of his neck. “Things were actually going better than great…yknow, with us. They’re amazing. And like, you’re amazing. And I’m so sorry I’m always late and disappearing and I’m sorry I’m such an idiot.” He looked at his feet for a bit, shame curving his features into a bit of a pout. He glanced back up at you, his puppy dog eyes begging for forgiveness already. “But like, I really love spending time with you and Aunt May loves you and I…” he faltered again, “I love you, yknow?”
You smiled, taking his other hand. “I’m an idiot too, so it’s okay. And,” you stood closer to him, “I love you too.” You leaned in to kiss him, but Wanda cleared her throat, reminding you of her presence. You pursed your lips, your face warming a little with embarrassment.
She picked up the tray of caramel and apples. “I’ll just put these away,” she said, hurrying to put them away and leaving you two alone.
“I’m all sweaty and gross. Sorry.” Peter said before you silenced him with a kiss. It didn’t stop you from pulling him close.
When you broke away, you murmured, “It doesn’t bother me.” You ran a hand down his arm, entwining your fingers again, but remaining close. “Stop apologizing. It’s really okay,” you giggled.
“Sorry–Er, I mean…” He laughed, pecking another kiss to your lips. He smiled brightly, startling a little as Tony entered the room. It seemed that everyone needed to know now.
He froze, his glasses coming off again. “Wait, this is the douchebag?” he asked, unsure he was actually seeing the two of you together like this. “And why are you smooching him? I thought he was giving you trouble?” He pointed at you. “Were you giving her trouble, Parker?”
“No, Mr. Stark,” Peter assured. “It was a misunderstanding. I think we’re good now.” He looked back at you, and you nodded in agreement. You tried to contain your smile.
He squinted, turning with a shrug and going the other way, dropping whatever his previous task was.
“Wanna go get ice cream?” you asked.
Peter smiled. “I like the sound of that. But can I take a shower first?”
You nodded. “You do that, Spidey.”
He dropped his head with a laugh. “That’s cute.”
“What? Spidey?”
“Heh, yeah.”

You smoothed the wool blanket you had just set in the bottom of your basket, smiling as Constance came around the corner with some vegetables and a small container of flour.
You breathed a sigh of relief, running a hand through your hair. “Thank you, Constance. You have no idea how much of a struggle it’s been to handle all the newcomers in the orphanage. And practically all the children are coming down with a sore throat and a cough. It’s been a nightmare.”
“It’s not the whooping cough, is it?” she asked, concern furrowing her brow. You shook your head, making Constance relax a little. “No, thankfully. Just a cold.” You held out the basket as she set in a few more things. She turned to a cupboard and retrieved a small jar.
“Here, take some honey to soothe their throats. Mix it with some peppermint tea and it works wonders.”
You smiled, closing and setting the basket aside for a moment. “I don’t know what I would do without you.” Constance shrugged with a humbled smile. You absentmindedly rubbed your forearm. “Any word from D’Artagnan?”
She shook her head. “I received a letter from him last week, but nothing since.” She waved the matter off. “What about you? Have you caught the eye of any dashing young men?”
You gave a breathless laugh. “Not yet. Well, actually–” You pursed your lips with a sigh, looking over Constance’s shoulder for a moment. “That’s a lie. A few have made advances, but,” you broke eye contact again, casting a glance at your feet, “I still haven’t really let go, you know?”
“I can imagine.” With an empathetic frown, Constance reached out and rubbed your arm, a comforting gesture.
You smiled a little, picking up your basket. “Don’t worry about it. Someone will show up sooner or later. Besides, with all the new children I’d hardly have any time to worry about a man.” You looked down at the basket which had been packed full of goods. “Thank you again, Constance. I wouldn’t be able to manage if it weren’t for you. Thank you so much.”
She gave your hand a little squeeze. “You’re welcome. Let me know if you need anything else.”
“I will.”
“I mean anything, Y/n. I’m here for you.”
You nodded, your lips curling graciously. “I’ll probably turn up again soon.” “I look forward to it.” You hurried back to the orphanage before the sun had set, as it was already sinking on the horizon and you did not want to be caught on the streets alone at night. You opened and closed the orphanage door quietly in the event that any little ones were sleeping already. You glanced around in search of Catherine, the woman you ran the orphanage with and your closest friend, but you furrowed your brow when your comrade was nowhere to be found.
“Catherine?” you called out, setting the basket on a countertop.
A curly haired child came bouncing up, a smile lighting up her eyes. She clutched a small plush creature with long, carefully stitched ears that flopped to and fro as she approached you.
“What have you got, Marie?” you asked. You crouched down to the child’s eye level as she showed off her new toy.
“It’s a rabbit! The nuns came to visit and brought us toys!” She examined the rag doll and smiled brightly before hugging it close.
You smiled. “That was very kind of them. Did you say thank you?”
She nodded with a shy grin. “Yes.”
You ruffled the child’s hair. “Good girl. Does your rabbit have a name?”
She shook her head.
“He doesn’t have a name? Well he must have a name!” you exclaimed with a gentle surprise. You settled on the ground in the midst of a few scattered figurines and spinning tops, which were at rest now.
Marie shrugged. “I don’t know what to call him.” She examined the bunny again, smoothing its ear as she sat next to you.
You hummed. “Well, what are your favorite things about him?” Marie thought for a bit, giving the toy a gentle squeeze. “He’s nice, and he’s soft…and he’s fluffy.”
“What if you name him Fluffy?”
Marie thought long and hard about the title, nodding with approval as a grin grew on her face. “Okay!”
You gently shook the rabbit’s paw. “Hello, Monsieur Fluffy.”
Marie smiled brightly, hugging Fluffy close to her chest. A set of footsteps descended down the stairs. You glanced up as Catherine smiled at Marie, who was now introducing her rabbit to a wooden horse figurine.
“There you are,” you said, “I was beginning to wonder where you’d gone off to.” Catherine shrugged. “Just upstairs.” She seemed to fight back a smile. “Have you seen that book?”
“Which book?”
Catherine cleared her throat. “The one I lent you the other night.”
You thought for a moment, your mind running back through the week. You nodded when you recalled which book you had borrowed from your friend. “Oh, yes, it’s up in my room.”
“Would you mind getting it for me?”
You furrowed your brow and tilted your head a little. “Can’t you?”
Catherine hesitated, scooping up Antoine, the nearest child who was small enough to pick up. “Don’t you see I have my hands full at the moment?” Antoine looked about as confused as you did. “Catherine,” you stood, “what’s going on?”
“Just go upstairs, Y/n. I promise you won’t regret it.” Catherine winked, setting Antoine down. He scurried over to play with the spinning top.
Hesitantly, you ascended the stairs, glancing over your shoulder at Catherine, who grinned brightly. The staircase creaked as you reached the top. There was a moment of hesitation where you listened to a similar groan of the floorboards in your room before you opened the door. You were startled first, but utterly confused at the man sitting on the chest at the foot of your bed.
He flipped through a book, the one Catherine had lent you, in fact. He looked up at you and set it aside, standing and removing his hat. He lingered at the foot of your bed almost nervously.
“Aramis,” you breathed, first taking a few hesitant steps forward, then running up and throwing your arms around him.
He laughed. “Hello, darling.”
You squeezed him tightly and buried your face in his shoulder and breathed in the familiar smell of his leather coat. He wrapped his arms around your waist and embraced you. Silence hung in the air, but it was a sweet silence. Content filled both your hearts, joy radiating from either of your faces. He pulled away, but his hands remained on your waist as not to let you stray too far.
“What are you doing here?” You ran your hand down his arm and back up, a smile forming on your lips.
“The monk life didn’t suit me.”
You laughed softly, mirroring his chuckle. “I can see that.” You hugged him tightly again in an effort to assure yourself that he was truly here. “You look better in leather anyway.” You felt his arms firm around your waist and his warm breath against your ear as he chuckled.
“I missed you,” he murmured with a soft peck to your cheek.
You smiled, running your fingers through his hair. “I missed you too.”
He pulled back, his hand on the side of your face and his thumb gently stroking your cheek. He leaned in slowly, almost cautiously. You didn’t hesitate to close the remaining space between you. You sealed your lips enthusiastically to his, hands on either side of his face.
A familiar shot of adrenaline made your heart flutter at having Aramis so close. You practically melted into the kiss as he pressed himself to you in order to bring you closer if possible.
You broke away from each other, your hands wrapped in Aramis’s. You smiled brightly.
“Are you here to stay?”
He smiled. “I believe so.”
“Good.” You hugged him again, pressing a soft kiss to his neck. “I’d hate to see you leave again.”
He kissed your temple. “I won’t.” He rested his chin on top of your head. “I promise.”
You soaked up his embrace, taking his hand. “I wasn’t the only one who missed you. The children asked about you all the time after you left.”
“Aw, I’m flattered.” He winked. “I saw Marie. She’s grown so much,” Aramis observed with a fond look in his eye. He caressed your cheek.
You nodded. “She probably doesn’t even remember you,” you laughed. He smirked. “What a shame, I’m usually so memorable.”
You giggled, curling your fingers into the collar of his shirt and tugging him forward. You stopped just short of his lips. “I’ll say.”
“I do have a sort of charisma about me, don’t I?” he coaxed, eyes flickering to your lips. He eyed them hungrily.
You bit your lower lip, almost as if you were trying to further entice him. “Show me.” Next thing you knew, you were collapsed on the bed with Aramis hovering above you as you exchanged insatiate and sloppy kisses. Clothing was gone somewhere in between locking the door, crawling under the bedsheets and the fervency of your lips being sealed together impatiently.
“You’ll have to forgive me,” he murmured between kisses, “I may be a bit rusty after four years.”
You laughed softly. “I doubt it.”
He kissed you again. The world melted away and all you felt were each other. A mixture of emotions and sensations rushed over the pair of you while things slowly escalated. The next moments, although fleeting, were worth the long wait, and wouldn’t soon be forgotten.
You rested your head on Aramis’s chest, your eyelids drooping slightly. He ran his fingertips along your arm, leaving tingles in their wake. You shifted a little, listening to his steady heartbeat.
“Well, you haven’t lost your touch.” You sighed, tracing one of the many scars on his chest.
He sighed as well, letting his hand rest at your shoulder, gripping it gently. “Neither have you, my dear,” he purred. You felt butterflies in your stomach as you let your eyes droop shut.
You synced your breathing with Aramis’s, but opened your eyes and pursed your lips as a feeling of subtle anxiety hit you. “What now?”
“‘What now’?” He hummed shortly as he thought. “We’re together again. We’ll figure out ‘what now’ when now gets here.”
Despite his comforting words, you still felt an unease rising in your chest. “No, I mean it’s been four years, Aramis.” You stopped tracing the scar for a moment, your finger still pressed gingerly to his chest. “Something has to have changed.”
He folded his arm under his head, his other hand remained on your shoulder. “Well I’ve spent those four years in a monastery with only children and old men, so hopefully that tells you how much change I’ve encountered.” He chuckled softly at himself, but something in him shifted. “Unless you’re saying something’s changed for you.” He evaded your eyes. “You moved on, didn’t you?”
“No,” you were quick to respond as you propped yourself up on an elbow to look him in the eye, “no, Aramis, how could I?” You pressed a kiss to his forehead. “I love you. I love you so much. I didn’t think I would be able to let go.” You pressed another soft kiss to his lips, your hand going to his cheek. Hope sparked behind his eyes, a small smile forming on his lips. “Well then nothing’s changed, and it doesn’t have to.”
You bit your lip. “So we’ll just pick up where we left off?”
Aramis shrugged. “We’ll consider the last four years a detour.”
You smiled, kissing him yet again. “Deal.” You settled next to him, rolling on your side to face him. He mirrored your example. You noted his drooping eyelids and caressed his cheek, moving aside some stray hairs in the same movement. “You look tired.”
He closed his eyes and gave a small nod. “I am. It’s been a hell of a day.”
You ran your hand down his arm to lace your fingers with his. “Rest.”
He cracked an eye open, smiling a little. “Only if you do.” He pulled you closer with a peck to your forehead.
You sighed. “I have to go help get the children ready for bed,” you said as you began to push yourself from the bed.
His hand went to your waist in an instant. He locked eyes with you and grinned a little. “Catherine said you’d say that.” Aramis tugged you to move close to him again. “She also said to tell you she’s got it handled.”
You smiled at Catherine’s thoughtfulness. You snuggled up to Aramis’s chest, and he draped his arm over you. “I owe her one.”
He nuzzled your forehead. “Worry about it later.” He ran his hand slowly up and down your back. A pleasant silence lingered for a moment. “I love you.”
You smiled. “I love you too.”
“So, so much,” he finished for you.
A drowsy giggle slipped past your lips, your eyes closing again. “Yes.”

You sighed, rolling onto your back. You stared up at the ceiling for a long time, listening to the white noise of Steve in the shower. Despite your exhaustion from not having slept well the last couple nights, it seemed the pattern would continue tonight, though for perhaps a different reason. You yawned, squinting at the light from the bathroom as the door opened before Steve flicked it off.
“Why are you still awake?” he asked, looking a little concerned. You took a moment to admire Steve’s silhouette against the light pollution from outside. He wore a pair of grey sweatpants that loosely clung to his hips.
“Baby’s dancing,” you replied, propping yourself up on one elbow as he approached.
“Oh yeah?” He laughed softly. “Sounds like we’ve got a gymnast on our hands.” Steve plucked a shirt from the dresser and pulled it on, tousling his already messy blond hair. He peeled back the sheets and snuggled up close to you, pressing a kiss to your forehead.
You squirmed a little as you felt another kick.
“Geez, even I felt that one,” Steve laughed, placing a hand over your very swollen belly.
You locked your fingers with his. “She’s a super baby, I’m sure of it,” you joked. “Maybe she’ll take after her dad.”
He chuckled, the sound shaking his chest a little. He let loose a content sigh. “I hope not.”
“Why?”
He shrugged. “I won’t be happy if our daughter is picking fights in a back alley right out of the womb.” He laughed again. “She’ll get in less trouble if she takes after you.”
“Steve, this is our baby we’re talking about. She’s getting in trouble regardless.” You ignored the weight and reality of that statement, and tried to push aside all the horrible scenarios flashing through your mind. Being a parent seemed a lot more daunting than you initially thought. “Do you think we’re ready for this?”
Steve reflected on the question for a while. Whether or not you two were ready, Baby Rogers was going to come sooner or later. “I think we can handle it. Besides, we have plenty of help between the rest of the Avengers if we need it.”
You fidgeted again at the feeling of the very restless baby. “You think so?”
“Absolutely.” He kissed your forehead again. “It’s okay, I’m scared too. But we’ve brought down entire organizations, fought robots and aliens, and saved the world too many times to count. We were scared then too, weren’t we?”
“Plus we have to take care of Tony,” you added with a little laugh.
Steve nodded, snickering in response. “Exactly. I think we can handle one baby.”
You hummed in agreement. “You’re right,” you answered after some time.
You were quiet for a long while, embracing the comfortable silence. Eventually, the baby became still, allowing you to begin dozing off. You opened your eyes again with a little gasp.
“Steve, you still awake?” you whispered, giving his hand a soft squeeze.
His eyes remained shut, but he raised one eyebrow, the corner of his mouth curling upward. “Mhm.”
“I thought of a name.”
His eyes fluttered open slowly as he shifted a little. “Lay it on me.”
“I was thinking Sarah.”
He thought about it for a while, running his fingers absentmindedly down your arm. “Like my mom Sarah?”
You nodded. “Yeah. I like that name a lot. I think we should call her Sarah.”
Steve smiled. “Good idea.”
- - -
“Mommy?” a tiny voice said. You felt a dip in the bed and a small hand shaking your shoulder. You rolled over and saw Sarah clutching her stuffed bunny close to her chest.
“What’s wrong, honey?” You ran a hand down the little one’s arm.
Sarah trembled a little, hugging her bunny. “I had a bad dream.”
“I’m sorry, baby.” You moved back the covers so Sarah could climb in next to you. “Do you want to tell me what it was about?”
Sarah hid her face, nodding a little. You heard Steve shift. He propped himself up on an elbow, peering over at Sarah.
“What’s going on? Are you two having a cuddle party without me?” he teased, hoping to elicit a smile from his visibly shaken daughter.
You laughed softly. “Sarah had a bad dream.”
He frowned, reaching over to touch her shoulder. “Oh no,” he said. He thought for a moment. “I’ll take her back to bed so you can sleep, love,” he pecked a kiss to your temple.
“Thanks, Steve.”
He stood and picked Sarah up. “So, tell me about this bad dream.”
It wasn’t long before you realized you were thirsty. You got up and crept out to the kitchen, passing Sarah’s bedroom door. You listened to what she told Steve.
“…and there were bad guys and they taked you away and they putted you and Mommy in jail.”
“That sounds scary,” Steve said, pulling the blankets over Sarah. He handed her the stuffed bunny, which she took and clung to.
You put your glass in the sink and leant in the doorway as Steve went on.
“But there’s no bad guys here,” Steve went on. “Even if there were I wouldn’t let them put me or Mommy in jail. I’m pretty sure she wouldn’t need me to stop the bad guys from getting her, though.” He looked up at you and shot a wink.
“Yeah,” you chimed in, pulling a face at Steve, “and Daddy is Captain America, remember? He puts the bad guys in jail.”
Sarah smiled. “So there’s no bad guys?”
“Well, doll,” Steve said, brushing her pale hair away from her face. You marveled at the way she looked exactly like her dad. “There’s always bad guys. They may not be here right now, but you’re going to see them someday.”
You settled on the bed opposite to Steve. “But we’re not going to let them get you. It’s our job to stop people like them.”
Sarah thought about that for a while, hugging her bunny. She smiled after some consideration. “I wanna be like you guys when I grow up. I’ll fight the bad guys too.” She grinned, eyes sparkling at the idea.
“That’s great, honey.” You kissed Sarah’s forehead, glancing at the clock. “Get some sleep. It’s very late.”
“Do you want me or your mom to stay?” Steve asked as he stood and turned out the light.
She shook her head. “Nope. I’m not scared of the bad guys anymore.”
You followed Steve to the door. “Good,” he replied with a chuckle. “Goodnight, doll.”
“Night night, Daddy. Night night, Mommy.”
Steve closed the door almost silently, turning to you. He noted your drooping eyelids, pulling you into a hug.
“You okay, babe?” He rubbed your back in large circles.
You sighed, wrapping your arms loosely around his waist. “Just sleepy.”
“Let’s go back to bed. I’m tired too.”
The pair of you crawled back into bed, curling up together. You traced small circles on Steve’s chest, letting the rhythmic rise and fall lull you. It didn’t take long before you fell back asleep, curling against him.

Emperor
Pairing: Kylo Ren x Reader
Word count: 1,000
Summary: Emperor!AU  After rising to power as the Emperor of the First Order, Kylo Ren becomes withdrawn, and you miss him.
A/N: This is a fic from my old blog Purpleocity. All future fics will be posted here at bwemph :)
Tumblr media
You gazed at your reflection in the mirror, smoothing your hair. Even as a child, you never dreamed of wearing a dress as extravagant as this. You ran a hand down your body, admiring the way it hugged your figure.
You gave a trembling sigh, touching your face which you almost feared wasn’t pretty enough for that of an empress. You finally gathered the courage to leave the quarters.
The doors slid open to reveal two Troopers on either side ready to escort you to the ceremony. Your heart pounded inside your chest as you neared a corner. You entered an elevator and savored the last few moment of calm and solitude. The door opened, revealing several more troopers, Phasma at the front. Behind the soldiers stood Kylo Ren. His eyes sparked at the sight of you. A smile threatened to curl his soft lips as he gawked. He reached a hand out to you and you took it. You gave a nervous smile as you started down another hallway.
“Relax, love,” Kylo crooned, “today is for us.” A corner of his mouth raised ever so slightly. He seemed proud that this day had finally come, that the Resistance had been destroyed. Now they could seek to further restore order to the galaxy. Now they could stop the fighting and struggling you had known all your life. You were about to become an empress. Everything was going to change, but you believed it was for the better. Kylo was right, today was for you.
You pushed the worries and what-ifs aside and breathed in the pride of standing beside your beloved and taking on the world, living like kings. Kylo kissed your temple, pulling you from your thoughts.
“Do I look okay?” you asked. You didn’t often care much about your appearance as long as you were presentable. You never really had to worry before.
Kylo caressed your cheek. “You look beautiful.”
You held his hand a little tighter as you entered the throne room for the first time as emperor and empress.
***
“Kylo?” you called softly, pulling your blanket sung around your shoulders as you approached him. The cold floor against your bare feet sent a chill through you. You found him staring out at the void of space, stars twinkling in the distance.
“Why are you awake?” He asked, his gaze locked on the stars. There was something sadly familiar about that cold, withdrawn tone. Where had the Kylo you knew and loved gone?
You hovered in the doorway, shifting from foot to foot. “I heard you get up.” You approached him, touching his shoulder lightly. “Actually, you were dreaming, talking in your sleep again.” You laughed ever so softly in hopes of lightening the mood. “Gibberish, mostly. I couldn’t make anything out, but it didn’t sound good.” Your fingers grazed his arm and you noticed how tense he was.
“Go back to bed.”
“No.” You crossed your arms, shrugging a little to keep the blanket from slipping further off your shoulders. He looked at his feet. “You’ve been spending too much time alone. It’s not good for you.” You hugged his arm, which he hardly reacted to, save for stealing a small glance at you. “I’m worried. I miss you.”
He sighed, pulling you into a hug, his movements sluggish and almost forced. “I’m sorry,” he whispered. His lips brushed your forehead. Finally, just a little affection. Though, it did nothing to satisfy your craving for more. You just wanted his closeness, to latch onto him and never let go. He took several moments to embrace you and piece together some words. “I’m just so tired. The Resistance may have been crushed, but they are persistent. It seems as though I cannot stop watching them or else they’ll reignite the rebellion.”
You touched his cheek. “You’re so paranoid, Kylo.” You laughed. “We are the leaders of the First Order. There’s a fleet of Star Destroyers at our command. Thousands of Troopers stand at the ready, eager to crush any resistance. You and I,” you poked his chest, “we have the high ground.” You locked fingers with him and yawned a little. “Come back to bed, Kylo. I’m tired and it’s cold.”
Another long sigh emitted from Kylo’s lips, but he nodded once and followed you back to your shared quarters. You snuggled up together under the sheets and you huddled close to Kylo’s body, savoring the warmth he provided. You hid your face in the crook of his neck, pecking a few kisses here and there.
“I promise,” you said between kisses, “you won’t find a better duo than us. We hold the Resistance down and the First Order together. It’s going to be okay,” you assured with a sweet kiss to his lips. “Come on, at least drop hints. Am I doing anything for you or am I just wasting my breath?”
Kylo watched you closely, his eyes holding something you couldn’t quite place. Whatever it was, you hadn’t seen it in quite some time. He kissed you softly. There was so much emotion in the kiss, much more than you’d felt from him in a long time. You savored it before he pulled away with a sigh. You smiled as he wrapped his arms around you.
“I hear you.” His voice rumbled in his chest as he spoke. He ran a hand down to the small of your back. “Thank you.”
“I’m doing my best,” you teased.
Kylo breathed a chuckle, somewhat dry and lacking emotion, but he tried.
“I’m going to help you, Kylo. I don’t want you to handle things alone anymore, because you’re not alone.”
He gave a small smile, his breath shaking a little. “Thank you.” His voice was almost inaudible, and it broke part way through speaking. He hugged you tightly and refused to let go. His next words were even softer, and if you hadn’t listened closely you would have missed them. “I love you.”

Rathides. The Resistance were stationed here to replenish provisions and fuel. Around the ships that had just landed stretched a small city, fitting for the similarly small planet. Though, outside the city was what drew most to this quiet, middle of nowhere place.
Long, rolling hills stretched far as the eye could see under a peachy sky with spindly clouds being dissolved by the dwindling sunlight. However, the real sights were the night skies. The sky turned ebony, and light pollution was minimal, revealing millions of bright stars twinkling in the inky atmosphere. It was rumored that one could see numerous galaxies and nebulas from the right viewing point.
This is what prompted you now as you strode with purpose through the hangar in search of a certain pilot. You glanced down at your watch to make sure you weren’t short on time before your shift was to begin–you were definitely cutting it close. When you looked up from your watch, your eyes landed on Poe Dameron, exactly who you were searching for. BB-8 was handing him tools as he tuned up his X-Wing. You recalled Poe mentioned a strange buzzing sound the other day, so you assumed that must be what he was fixing.
You silently approached and hugged him from behind. He froze in surprise before he realized whose arms were wrapped around his waist. “Hey, Doc.” He wiped his hands with a rag before turning to hug you back. He pecked a greeting kiss to your lips. “What’s going on?”
You grinned. “I just wanted to see you.” You tapped the end of his nose, making him squint and scrunch it a little with a soft laugh. You giggled before going on, “And I have a proposal for you.”
“A proposal? Isn’t that my job?” Poe quipped.
“Any day now, Dameron,” you teased back, your eyes flickering to the ring on the chain around his neck. He winked in response, one side of his mouth curving upward. “Anyways,” you cleared your throat, “I heard the night sky is incredible this time of year on this planet. I was thinking maybe you and I could go stargazing tonight?”
Poe smiled, brushing a few stray hairs away from your eyes. “Alright, I’m in.”
“Well, you don’t take much convincing.” You mirrored his chuckle, biting your lower lip. “It’s a date.”
“Yes ma’am.”
You noticed the approaching ship that landed outside, realizing in the ship were a few officers returning from a mission. Several were wounded and being rushed to the infirmary. “Looks like that’s my cue to leave.”
“See you later.” He pressed another quick kiss to your lips.
You gave a rushed, “bye” before jogging off toward the med bay.
“Alright, someone prep this man for surgery. We need to operate immediately,” you heard a medic instruct, pointing to an empty operating room. You strode down the hall as another doctor rushed by with a wounded soldier of some alien species. A groaning pilot staggered down the hall and held his side as a nurse strode along beside him. Several instructions and orders were being relayed across the medical ward in the background as you glanced down at your watch and noted the convenient timing of your shift.
You felt a hand on your shoulder and turned to see a nurse with tan skin and bronze hair holding a few documents.
“We’ve got a woman in need of some attention if you wouldn’t mind taking that on”
You nodded. “It’s what I’m here for. Where’s Doctor Ginn?”
“Assisting a surgery. So is Doctor Dymos. I have a feeling we’ll all be pretty busy for a while since there’s still have more officers that have yet return.”
You nodded again. “Sounds like that mission went badly.” With that, you strode to the room you were pointed toward to find a woman with striking blue eyes slouched against a wall. She grimaced as she looked up to meet your gaze.
“Really, Tatina? You’ve gotta quit getting yourself hurt on these missions.” You laughed softly as you crossed to the brunette.
“I swear, I don’t have a death wish,” she chuckled. “We were ambushed.”
You settled next to her, beginning to tend to her wounds. “What happened out there?”
“Stormtroopers. Somehow the First Order found out we were about to attack. They got to us first.”
You brushed Tatina’s brown locks behind her shoulder, cleaning a wound right at the crook of her neck. “It seems like they’ve been aware of our every move lately. Did they trace you back here?”
“I hope not,” Tatina said, her eyes wide. “We got out as quick as we could.”
You hummed. “I don’t doubt it. You guys are pretty beat up, though. Especially Lieutenant Rourke. He’s part of your squadron isn’t he? How did you manage to stay in this good of shape?”
Tatina looked at her hands and shrugged, a mistake. Her breath caught before quickening. “I’m not sure. The odds were in my favor, I guess.” She offered a little laugh.
“I guess so,” you agreed, finishing the last of Tatina’s wounds. “That should keep you for now. Next time, try not to die.”
Tatina scoffed. “As if I try at all.”
You shrugged and stood. “Well, with how often I see you, I’ll admit I’m a little suspicious,” you joked. “Take care of yourself, Tatina.”
“I always do.”
You shot the soldier a wink before leaving.
You glanced at your watch, realizing your shift was supposed to end an hour and a half ago. You left your quarters after changing into your own clothes and started down the hall in search of Poe. You turned a corner and stopped short, toe to toe with the pilot. You felt your cheeks get a little warm at how close your faces were. Your lips were just short of colliding with his.
“You’re late.” He touched your arm, running his fingers down to lace with yours.
You sighed, your thoughts running back through today’s events. “I know. This Toglomian came in with some serious injuries and we needed to operate immediately. It took us forever.” You looked at your hands tangled together, smiling as you looked back up. “But, I’m here now and I’m all yours.” You sealed your lips to his to punctuate your sentence.
Poe hummed, a hand going to the side of your face. “I like the sound of that.”
You rolled your eyes. “Come on!” You pulled on his hand eagerly. “What are we waiting for? There’s zillions of stars out there waiting for us!” You practically dragged him down the hall.
The stars were endless. There was almost no space in the sky the stars didn’t cover. Between the stars, planets could be seen, peeking down at you. Galaxies and nebulas also scattered themselves about the sky, glowing rich colors.
“Isn’t this just gorgeous?” You folded your arms beneath your head as you gazed in awe at the sky. “There’s so much life out there. It’s so strange that as much of it that we’ve travelled through, there’s still an infinite expanse out there that we’ll probably never live to see.”
Poe hummed a response.
“It’s just…wow,” you went on, feeling unable to tear your gaze from the sea of stars. “It’s one of those things that’s just so beautiful you can’t look away, you know?”
“Yeah, I know exactly what you mean.” His voice was serene, almost as if he were in a trance.
You broke your gaze away from the sky and looked to Poe, who was turned on his side and smiling softly at you. You felt your cheeks flush and watched him prop himself up on his elbow. You followed his example.
“You are so beautiful.” He caressed your cheek, closing the space between you two. He kissed you so tenderly, and yet you felt your heart was about to explode right out of your chest from the adoration in the kiss. You returned the kiss, your passion seeping in. Poe pulled you closer to his chest, letting a hand roam your body. He guided you down to your back and hovered over you, smiling before leaning down to kiss you again. However, before he met your lips, a ship appeared from light speed in the sky. Your eyes widened. Poe followed your gaze and let you sit up, unconsciously interlocking his fingers with yours. A shuttle descended from the ship and made to land nearby.
“We gotta go,” Poe said, tugging on your arm and pulling you toward the base.
The shuttle you tried to elude landed in front of you, keeping your chace brief, and several Stormtroopers poured out. You and Poe raised your hands in surrender while while the Troopers aimed their blasters.
“Excellent job, trainees,” a familiar, very smooth voice said. A woman with long brown hair stepped around the barrier of Troopers. “Captain Phasma will be proud.”
Your eyes widened in surprise. It took you a moment to process the situation. “Tatina? Wha…”
Tatina shifted her weight. “It’s Jayne, actually.” She looked down her nose at you, but the antagonistic look in her eye wasn’t entirely genuine.
“You-you’re with the First Order?”
Jayne sighed, crossing her arms. “I’d consider myself more of an ally.” She hesitated. “I’m sorry, Y/N. I’ll be missing having you stitch me up every other day.” She offered a small smile before looking to the trainees. “Let’s get them to Commander Ren. If he gets impatient I’ll be left to deal with the repercussions.”
The last thing you remembered before it all went dark was being hit over the head, and hearing Poe’s grunt as he felt the same.
Jayne led the trainees off the shuttle, watching a couple transport the now unconscious prisoners to a cell. She met Kylo as he strode into the hangar and watched the Troopers head toward the prisons. He removed his helmet to look down at Jayne, a smile threatening to curl his lips.
“Well done, love,” he praised, caressing her cheek. She savored the touch, as it wasn’t typical for him to show affection while on duty. “You never disappoint me.”
Jayne gave a proud smile. “That’s pleasing to hear.”
A ghost of a smile appeared on Kylo’s lips before he rested a hand on her shoulder to push past.
“Commander,” Jayne blurted, catching his hand, “do me a favor?”
“Of course.” His voice was soft again as she stepped forward, his demeanor shifting a little at the use of his title.
She watched the Troopers disappear around the corner. “Once you’re done with them, the prisoners,” she shuffled a little, “send them back. We’ll have no benefit from keeping them here or killing them.”
A look flashed across Kylo’s face that Jayne couldn’t quite discern. He took a step toward her, his looming nature leaving her unphased. “Are you empathizing with the Resistance?”
“No,” she responded cooly, “just the doctor.” Kylo raised an eyebrow, prompting her to go on, “I endured no shortage of wounds during my time undercover. She took care of me. Please, let her and the pilot go. Just this once.”
“They’ll die anyway.”
Jayne sighed. “I know. Please, just give them the illusion of hope.”
Kylo’s expression hardened as he nodded once. He sighed and strode off the direction of the prisoners.
A chill went down your spine as you woke with a start. You looked around as your eyes adjusted to the dark. You realized you were on the floor. You sat up and squeezed your eyes shut at your pounding headache.
“Y/N, you alright?” Poe asked, his voice rasping a little.
You nodded shortly, then furrowed your brow as you spotted a red streak on his face where his dark curls clung to his forehead.
“You’re bleeding.” The concern was evident in your tone as you leaned forward and inspected the wound closely. In your mind, you started running through all the possible treatments for his wound.
“I’m fine, I’m fine,” Poe assured, catching your wrists as you reached forward to examine his head further. He pressed a soft kiss to your knuckles on both hands. “You’re bleeding too.” He gestured to the spot on your head that mirrored his. You reached up and felt the sticky red substance on your forehead as well, looking down at your fingers.
“Where are we?” you asked.
Poe sighed. “Some sort of holding cell within the First Order, I assume.”
You were about to say something when your head turned at the sound of heavy footsteps approaching. They echoed through the rest of the presumably empty cells ominously. A dark, looming figure paused at the door: Kylo Ren. He used the Force to open the door and stepped inside, stalking forward. He stood over you, and you couldn’t help but inch backward to escape the heavy gaze of the Commander. He took a moment to inspect the pair of you closely before heaving you to your feet.
“Y/N, no!” Poe protested, lunging forward. Kylo Force slammed him against the wall, leaving him unable to do anything but watch. You held back a frightened yelp as Kylo looked deep into your eyes through his dark helmet.
“I want answers,” he spoke, his voice deep and distorted. “The more compliant you are, the sooner I’ll leave you be.”
You felt your feet lift from the ground as Kylo used the Force to paralyze you (Though, you were already practically paralyzed by fear).
“I’m not telling you anything,” you hissed between strained breaths.
Kylo’s chuckle was low, almost inaudible. “You don’t have to.”
You gasped as you suddenly felt his presence in your head, intrusive and overpowering. He poked through a few of your thoughts, staying at the forefront of your mind while you fought to keep him from going any further. He was subtle at first, trying to slip through the places you left unguarded. You cried out as Kylo took a more aggressive approach, shutting your eyes tightly as though it might help.
“No, no, stop,” Poe rasped, his panic betraying him and seeping into his tone. He fought the Force that kept him in place. “You will not hurt her.”
Another cry escaped your lips despite your resistance. Kylo stopped and observed one of your thoughts for a good long time, realizing Poe was at the forefront of your mind, even before the Resistance or the information you were trying desperately to keep.
“You’re right,” Kylo crooned, dropping you. You landed on the cold floor with a thud and a small grunt. “I’ll hurt you. I imagine she’ll sing then.” He was too pleased with himself as he strode toward Poe, driving him to his knees. “Right, Doctor?” Kylo glanced to you.
“She’s a nurse, how can you expect her to know anything?” Poe blurted, tripping over his words and now looking afraid.
“Oh, I think she knows something.” Kylo ignited his lightsaber, the red glow highlighting the crimson streaks on Poe’s forehead. “Speak now, and your precious pilot will be left unharmed.”
“Don’t give him anything!” Poe urged, “Think of the Resistance!”
A conflict stirred within you, and you felt your heart pounding as Kylo threatened to run Poe through. You hesitated just a moment too long before Poe’s scream echoed through the cell as Kylo touched the crossguard of the saber to Poe’s shoulder.
“Poe!” you shrieked, tears blurring your vision. He grit his teeth and fruitlessly tried to escape the pain. Sparks flew and the smell of singed fabric and flesh wafted through the air and intermixed with Poe’s cries.
His head fell forward when Kylo removed his saber, awaiting a response from you.
“You’re not easily persuaded,” Ren observed. “No matter. I’ve got all night.” He circled Poe for a moment, calculating his next move as if this were a game of chess. He slunk to Poe’s left side, sinking to eye level. “Unless you have something to say, pilot.” Poe kept his gaze fixated on the ground, his shoulders rising and falling with each irregular breath. “Very well,” Kylo said with a shrug, again using his crossguard to burn a patch into Poe’s ribs. Kylo dragged it slowly and shamelessly across Poe’s side.
He cried out again, his voice breaking before Kylo withdrew his lightsaber and then landed a slash across Poe’s left arm. Kylo let the Force subside around Poe, watching him collapse to the ground. He groaned feebly.
You clamped a hand over your mouth, fighting with everything in you to escape the Force, but you were left helpless to the situation.
Kylo raised his saber as if he were going to strike Poe across the back, but you blurted at the last moment, “Alright, I’ll talk!” You tried to contain a sob. The red light contracted, leaving the shadows to consume the cell again.
“Go on then.”
You held back tears. “Our ship is located in Chaxnuss City.” You paused to take a breath. You sniffled.
“When are you leaving?”
“Tomorrow afternoon.” Your voice shook. “We’re refueling and restocking on food.”
“You’re vulnerable, then.”
You let your head drop. Poe helplessly tried to push himself from the ground. You found yourself unable to look at him at all.
“Tell me,” Kylo said, using the Force to tilt your chin up, “when can I expect you to be at your least immune to an unfortunate attack?”
You took another shaky breath. “Dawn,” you admitted with a quiet sob, “just before dawn.”
Kylo nodded, satisfied with the information he received. “Guards!” he called. He stalked away almost silently, murmuring an order to the two Troopers who marched in.
They paced forward, seizing you and Poe. You were towed down several halls and corridors before you were taken back to the hangar, where you were put on a shuttle and promptly dropped back onto Rathides.
You looked to Poe, whose breathing was ragged and labored. You stumbled over, throwing his arm around her shoulder. He groaned softly and staggered alongside you.
“It’s gonna be okay, don’t you worry. You’ll be okay,” You assured yourself more than Poe.
When you finally reached the ship, you wasted no time calling in a handful of other medics to assist you in taking Poe to the med bay.
Poe grimaced as you helped him remove his shirt to assess his injuries.
“You doing okay, Dameron?” you asked in hopes of keeping him conscious. You inspected his shoulder wound a little closer, trying your best to keep your eyes from flickering across his chest despite your concern.
He gave a half smile. “You think some creep in a mask can get rid of me that easy?” he teased, his voice low and raspy.
You laughed softly. “Well, a girl can worry, can’t she?”
BB-8 beeped a greeting as it rolled in, seeming relieved that Poe was alright.
“Hey, buddy.” Poe smiled at his droid.
It cheeped back in a scolding tone something along the lines of “how dare you get captured without me?”
Poe chuckled at his droid’s comment, but then there was a tense silence that lingered a few moments. Poe broke it as you began dressing the wound on his shoulder, “You didn’t have to do that for me,” he spoke softly, “you didn’t have to tell him all that.”
You avoided his eyes. “I know. I just…I couldn’t keep watching him do that to you.” Your voice shook as you recalled the sight. You tried to distract yourself away from the subject by moving on to Poe’s other wounds. They wept a little blood, but at this point were mostly either cauterized or clotting.
“Hey,” Poe’s hand went to the side of your face in spite of his injuries, prompting you to meet his gaze, “thank you.”
You blinked back more tears, smiling a little. “Any time.” You pecked a kiss to his lips before continuing fixing up his wounds.
Later, you went in search Leia, guilt thoroughly wracking your insides. “General Organa?” Your voice shook as you approached.
Leia turned and looked at you, a small smile curling her lips. “Doctor, I’m pleased to see you’re safe.”
You nodded in thanks, one of your shoulders raising slightly. “General, I…” You sighed, holding back even more tears. That seemed like all you had been doing tonight. “I told Ren everything. Our location, our vulnerability, our–”
“I wouldn’t worry about it too much, Doctor.” The General placed a comforting hand on your shoulder. You looked up hesitantly. “We’ve finished fueling and we’ll be leaving within the next hour or so. Anything you told him isn’t going to matter.”
You breathed a sigh of relief. “Oh, thank the stars.”
“Besides,” Leia smiled, “you saved my best pilot. I couldn’t ask for more.”
Your head dropped as you realized you suddenly felt shy. “What would we do without him?” You rubbed your arm and shuffled your feet a little.
Leia nodded in agreement. “We were lucky this time. Next time, maybe stargaze a tad closer to the ship when we’re on a foreign planet. You never know when reinforcements will be needed.” She winked. “Now, go ahead and take the rest of the evening off, Doctor. You need it.”
“Thank you, General.” You nodded in thanks before turning to leave.
You collapsed onto your bed after showering and changing into something clean and comfortable. You let your eyes close for a minute while you tried your hardest to avoid thinking about what happened earlier that night. You couldn’t seem to get the image of Poe writhing on the ground out of your mind. It was seared into your brain like the burn on his side. You decided to go check in again. It would keep you from worrying too much.
You strode to his quarters, finding him out cold and tangled in his sheets. You smiled and watched the subtle rise and fall of his chest before he stirred. You quietly padded over to his bed and settled on the edge. You brushed a few of his curls away from his forehead. Poe slipped his hand into yours as his eyes fluttered open.
“Hey,” you breathed.
Poe moved over and gestured to the empty space next to him. “You okay? You look like you’ve seen a ghost.”
You sighed as you lay next to him. “Just concerned about you, I guess.”
“Well, no need to worry. I had a really good doctor fix me up.” He pecked a kiss to your nose.
You smiled, your face heating a little. You rolled onto your side to look at him. You ran your fingertips over his chest. Your lips found his cheek before you hid your face in the crook of his neck. “Thanks, babe.”
“And as soon as we land on another planet, we’ll go stargazing for real.”
“Promise?”
“Promise.” He sealed his lips to yours for a moment.
“Well then,” you broke the kiss for a fleeting moment, “it’s a date.”
