CLASS TRIAL 1 - Progress Report #4

despite everything i still like the energy of the old version lol

sorry this is late i had a depressive episode and have lost all sense of the passage of time. but im still mostly on track to have this out by the... end of the month?? maybe first week of july?? progress as of 6/14 under the cut:

WRITING: ~99% done (with the first draft)

ALMOST THERE... the last chunk of the trial has the most new stuff so it's taking a little longer than the rest, but i've also been editing/proofreading the earlier sections as i go!

MINIGAMES: ~80% done

still wrestling with anagram gambit

climactic deduction DONE

nonstop debates now have skippable text

all selection screens are workin

the newer minigame is a bullet time battle equivalent and the code is almost done!!

ART: ~60% done

bf found a couple bugs after i sent him a wip build but i think i got em fixed!

experimenting with hosting on itch.io so it's easier to download a standalone version-- 60-70mb is still less than a 5 minute youtube video, but stuff will always load faster if it's already on your hard drive haha

this week i wanna try to finish the music and get the minigames working!! that's gonna be the biggest factor in a release date so hopefully by next week i will actually have a Day and Time

Not me finally posting my arcane au’s lmao

so if you look at my au masterlist post, you’ll note that about a week ago I’ve added the catagory Arcan/lol with two au’s- Never One Without The Other and Dog Teeth! this is much more lighthearted of the two, dog teeth, which came about from me not wanting to draw human children following Jinx around in one of @dragonshoard ‘s au(check them out 🔪🔪🔪) and creating a Jinx cat design for it(which quickly followed with Ekko and Vi lol) and then completely spiraled out of control into this lmao.

basic info is that in this au, everyone has a ‘soul form’(which, btw, is not a spirit animal)- this soul form basically boils the person down to their base instincts and personality- v similar to a daemon au, except the character is the animal and do not become a separate entity.

as a kid, your form is not ‘settled’, and as such you resemble a blend of your parents souls. you also can’t keep your height- which is another thing: when shifting into ‘soul form’ you have two options: True form/naked form/honest form(it changes its name depending on the region/slang)- which is when you take your size that is true to the animal you are. this form is stronger in terms of, say, if you were a grizzly bear you have the strength of one, but is incredibly vulnerable when touched because when in this form you are laying yourself bare. your soul has no protection, and any injuries hurt.

due to this, most remain in their ‘false form’ or ‘sheltered body’, which, while weaker, doesnt risk scarring you down to your soul when injured. it’s the same height as the person is in human form, which is why its also often used for intimidation factors.

kids ‘settle’ into their souls at a wide range of ages, from some as young as five to others as old as thirty. it generally happens after a big event in a persons life that solidifies thier opinions of themselves.

soul forms have been known to change on very rare occasions, however it requires something to completely alter a person’s entire personality and worldview

most kids settle in their mid to late teens

soul forms also keep the key features of a person- parts of their hair style, your scars, and any tattoos will translate over(this is why cait in soul form has her bangs+ponytail and why vi has her scars+tattoo)- so its not the most effective if your looking to go unrecognized sm one.

plus a persons soul form is common knowledge, and its socially acceptable to ask smone what they’re form is upon the first meeting(it is not acceptable to ask to see it tho, nor to touch a friend when they’re in their true size)

generally only family/close friends/long term partners are allowed to freely touch smone in their true size

and now to the shit anyone reading will actually be interested in lol: how this affects the arcane story!

so this much more falls under the ‘fix-it’ tag than most my other stories do, and you’ll note if you’ve read my masterlist summaries, this one is not labeled as notSilco!friendly(which, yes, i will clarify in all my arcane au’s cause i know how divided this fandom is lol). Instead, this au is a dad!silco au who has a queerplatonic relationship with Vander after finding Jinx in her true size having a mental breakdown lol

rq ima list off all the characters and their soul forms, along with the ages they all settled and the settlings cause + act 1 ages:

Vi: Wolf-dog, settled when she was 13 on the bridge where her parents died. 17

Jinx/Powder: Black cat, settled at 11 after the apartment robbery. 11

Ekko: African painted dog, settled at 15 while on a job with Jinx. 13

Mylo: Desert hare, settled when he was 12 when his mother is killed in front of him and he’s forced to flee from the murderers and is then picked up by Vander. 16

Clagger: Giant Panda, settled at 14 when he was on a job with Powder and Vander. 16

Vander: Canadian/Alaskan timber wolf, settled at 15 while on a job with Silco. 26

Benzo: Grizzly bear, settled at 13 when he he had to kill someone for the first time. 28

Silco: Borzoi, Red fox. Originally settled at 8 when he accidentally got his yonger brother killed, resettled into a red fox after Vander attempted to drown and kill him at aged 20. 25

Sevika: Spotted Hyena, settled when she was 16 when she watched an enforcer murder her parents in cold blood, before she in turn killed them. 23

Caitlyn: Checkered giant rabbit, settled at 15 when she into a massive argument with her mother about her career and life choices that actually ended with her moving out and getting her own apartment. 18

Greyson: Red tailed hawk, settled at 23 when she killed the previous sheriff to get his title. 34

Marcus: Broad winged hawk, settled at 19 when he first joined the enforcers and was heavily pushed to be Greyson’s partner due to their similar souls. 20

note for settling situations: I plan to expand on all this of these either with art or a oneshot, so they’re only the barebones/vague info.

and yes, Silco was originally a worm-on-a-string dog lmao.

also ima do jayce, viktor, and sm others in another post sm time later, but it you want to know what smone’s soul forms is, feel free to ask! you’ll probably get sm art with it too lol

Other Blogs: @vorta-whore where i post my fics. @stayneurotic from the one time i wanted my blog to be private b/c of some drama but then only like 5 people followed me there so i gave up lol. sometimes i vent stuff there when i’m feeling angsty. @neuroticramblings which was like, for an RP i did with my fiance about our OC faun/satyr pairing a few years ago. and @sisterastoria which is from my ghost (the band) RP days. i ran a pretty popular askblog for papa emeritus iii back then too, but i went through a real bad breakup and handed it off to a friend cause i couldn’t keep up with it anymore.

Why i chose my URL: from a quote i like. it’s really just a more eloquent yolo: “Stay neurotic. Stay frustrated. Stay emotional. Stay excited. Your life is happening.” i have a complicated relationship with my own emotions and neuropathy and it’s just comforting sometimes to remind myself it’s ok to be Not Perfect and let myself feel things openly.

Average hours of sleep: NOT A LOT LOL. maybe 6. i stay up way too late nowadays.

Dream Trip: i have said this before but i REALLY wanna go to colorado to the red rocks ampitheatre to see king gizzard do their three-hour marathon set......barring that though i can point to the honeymoon we were supposed to go on last month which has been indefinitely postponed lol. flying to california, staying in san diego for a few days, hitting up the zoo and all the dope shops and doing some horseback tours and getting cbd massages and room service n shit. and then a few days in an air bnb cabin in the forest, just the two of us.

Last Book I read: warpath.......dont even wanna get into this again...............but i will say. puttin a jem’hadar elder who’s kind of awakening to his brainwashing and havin a wee mental breakdown because of it, on a ship alone for hours w/ a hostage who’s like, a younger woman and she’s smart enough to play it cool while planning a badass escape even though she’s obviously terrified of him, but things escalate until he ends up like, backhanding her and then later on chokes her and hangs her from the ceiling by her wrists and gets real close to her face to taunt her and whispers in her ear while shrouded and shit........god bless

AN: This is mostly some Bucky and Emilia interaction, with a little Steve sprinkled in because I love Steve having an older sister lol. If you’d like to be tagged, just let me know. :)

Emilia had come to the realization that Steve really was the right man for the job.

He took the seat next to her at the bar, ordering two pitchers of beer for the rowdy table of men he was recruiting to his crusade.

“I never thought I would see the day when my baby brother was the strongest guy in the room,” she muttered into her glass. “I may not like that you’re puttin’ yourself in danger, but I’m still proud of the man you’ve become, Stevie.”

He smiled at her, putting his arm around her shoulders.

“I want you by my side too,” he stated as Bucky sat down to her left. “You can do more than you think.”

Snorting, she finished her whiskey and motioned for another one.

“If you thought I was gonna leave while you stay on the front lines, you obviously don’t know me very well.” As the glass was set in front of her, she turned to look at Steve. “I told you I’d always be with you. Always. Like hell I’m gonna let my brother fight some crazy Nazi scientist without me. Consider me in.”

Steve grinned and Emilia sighed heavily.

“Still doesn’t change the fact that I’m gonna worry about you, even if you are some superhero now. I also still think you’re confusin’ bravery with stupidity.”

He nodded, pulling her closer as he looked at Bucky.

“What about you, Buck?” he asked. “You ready to follow Captain America into war?”

“Captain America?” Bucky replied. “Hell no. The punk kid from Brooklyn who never knows when to walk away from a fight. I’m following him.”

Emilia chuckled at his words and nodded.

“I’m stayin’ for my idiot little brother who never backs down from a fight,” she agreed. “But I guess I’ll help Captain America the Dancing Monkey too.”

Steve shook his head, laughing with them as Emilia patted his cheek.

The bar suddenly went silent, and they turned to see Peggy walk inside the bar, wearing a solid red dress. She sure knew how to silence a crowd.

Steve stood, stunned speechless as he watched Peggy walk towards him. Bucky stood as well, weaseling his way into their conversation. He seemed to be determined to win Peggy’s affections, flirting and pulling every trick in his book. But lucky for Steve, Peggy only had eyes for him.

As Peggy walked away, Steve grabbed the beers and carried them back to the table where some of the men he’d saved were seated. The crazy, brave men who were going to follow him to war.

“Your ego is showin’,” Emilia said loudly, causing Bucky to turn to her and grin.

“And why do you say that, Doll?” he asked, taking Steve’s prior seat, his eyes alight with his usual mischief.

She sent him a look through the corner of her eye, “Just because a woman isn’t fallin’ at your feet doesn’t mean you have to try to steal Stevie’s thunder. He likes her, ya know. And she likes him.”

“Obviously,” Bucky muttered, eyeing the half-empty glass of whiskey in Emilia’s hand. He’d forgotten how much he liked her when she was drunk. Her words ran together a bit, and her Brooklyn accent came out stronger than ever when her eyes were alight from the whiskey. Scratch that, he loved her drunk. “I was just testing her.”

Emilia snorted, “You’re just jealous ‘cause she only has eyes for Steve.”

“And what’s it to you?” he asked, plucking the glass from her hand and draining it. “Why do you care, Doll?”

“Because Stevie’s my baby brother, and just because you’re my best friend doesn’t mean I won’t kick your ass if you ruin this for him.” She turned to glare at Bucky, taking her glass back and motioning for another. “You could have any other girl in this bar, and you go for the one Steve has been pining after for the past year.”

“Not any girl,” he muttered under his breath, causing Emilia’s head to snap in his direction as the bartender refilled her glass.

“Peggy-”

“I’m not talkin’ about Peggy,” he said, exasperated. His eyes were trailing across Emilia’s dress, which she had actually borrowed from Peggy. The muted pink complimented her lightly tanned skin and it hugged her body perfectly. Peggy had said she never wore it and told her to just keep it. “You won’t get it.”

Her eyes narrowed and she took a deep breath, raising her eyebrows when she saw him staring at her intently. Since when did his gaze give her butterflies?

“Buck, if you’ve got somethin’ to say, just say it,” she said, taking a sip and ignoring the hitch in her breath when she realized that he was still staring at her dress. “I don’t have all night.”

Shaking his head, he grinned at her again and scooted his stool closer to hers. He draped his arm around her shoulder and leaned his head on top of hers as he took a deep breath.

“I missed havin’ you around, Doll,” he whispered. “Those letters from you helped keep me sane, ya know.”

She couldn’t help but smile, thinking back to the short letters they exchanged for the first few months he was gone.

“Yours had me all worried,” she replied, tilting her head under the weight of his. “I’m glad you’re okay now.”

“Okay as I can be,” he replied, snorting lightly. “At least I don’t have to eat your cooking anymore, that’s enough to kill a man all by itself.”

She pinched his side harshly, causing him to let out a laugh and press a sloppy kiss to her temple.

“I’m just kiddin’, Doll,” he said cheekily, “you know I love your cooking. Even if it does make me feel like I only have a few minutes left to live.”

After a quick glance at the clock, Emilia shoved him away and stood, murmuring that she needed to get back. Bucky nodded, offering to walk her back but she shook him off, causing him to smirk.

“Independent as always.” He grabbed her glass before she could, taking the last sip and standing as well. “Guess I’ll go find the punk and his other friends.” Leaning down, he pressed a kiss to her cheek, really the corner of her mouth. “I’ll see you around, Em.”
