The band’s studio space had become more than just a home for the multitude of cords that attached to equipment and instruments cluttering up two-thirds of the room. It was a designated hang out most days. The five members of Day6 would practice their music, eat meals, share ideas, cram in study sessions and even sleep there.
You were no different, given you had tasked yourself with becoming their manager ever since they won at Band Beats last month. Before that, you had only gone by the title of Jae’s childhood best friend, although to him, usually dubbed the annoying thorn in his side.
“Must you follow me around everywhere I go?” Jae whined as you shut the door to the studio behind him, throwing down his backpack beside one of the couches that resided along the long wall. Ignoring his complaint, you slumped down on the couch and retrieved your phone.
“Someone has to make sure you actually get some practice done.”
“I’m offended, what did you think I was going to do after coming here?”
Smirking lazily, you didn’t lift your eyes from the social media app you were scrolling through. “Game.”
“I would never!” Jae announced dramatically, and you arched one of your eyebrows as he let out a preposterous laugh. “Unless you’re keen to?”
“Jae!”
“Fine, okay, I will practice. God, I liked it better when you were just the friend who came to cheer us on.”
“I am still the friend cheering you on. Encouraging you forward to improve at your skill so when you go to regionals later this year, you win.”
“Is it all about winning for you?” he grumbled and you grinned as you confirmed a venue for the band to play at in two weeks time that you had been organising for the past couple of days.
Putting down your phone, you finally gave Jae your full attention. “Don’t you want to?”
“I’m just having fun with my friends playing in a university band. I can’t even guarantee I’m going to wake up on time for my lectures most mornings, let alone pull off a riff awe-inducing enough to take home another trophy.”
“Well, there’s no better time than the present to start working on that,” you stated with a bright smile, gesturing for Jae to pick up his guitar. He rolled his eyes and then collected the instrument, bringing it over to the couch and sitting down beside you. Nudging his glasses back up the bridge of his nose, Jae then positioned the guitar more comfortably, mindlessly strumming through some exercises to warm up.
You smiled, even if he talked a lot, Jae was more dedicated to his craft that he would ever admit.
You were able to get through some of your assignments whilst Jae practised. You had grown up with him playing his guitar in every situation that you found yourself more productive whenever he was around doing just that, relaxed by the tunes he would play. Two hours had easily passed by with you working and Jae strumming just like that, both completely engrossed in your own tasks. Shifting a little to remove your cardigan, you tried to return to your studies, reaching blindly for your water.
It was getting hot in here.
“Jae,” you called, your eyes nor hands tearing away from your laptop. He didn’t answer. “Jae!”
“What?”
“Open the window behind you,” you instructed and he grunted in response. You soon forgot your request, and when you realised there was still no air circulating around the room, you finally shifted your gaze. Jae was fully immersed in his intricate music and the window behind him was firmly shut.
You groaned and turned sideways towards him. “Jaehyung!”
“Oh what?!” he cried back, lifting his eyes to yours indignantly. You slapped his arm and he gaped at you. “What are you hitting me for?!”
“I asked you to open the window like forty minutes ago! It’s hot in here!”
“I’m fine,” he retorted, going back to playing.
Clamping your eyes shut to push away your growing annoyance at his dismissal of your request, you reopened them and placed your laptop aside before getting onto your knees, stretching towards the latch on the window.
However, Jae was directly in the way.
“Move.”
“I’m busy.”
“I need to open the window.”
“So stretch around me, I’ve just stumbled into something good,” Jae retorted, leaning forward a little, his only compromise to the current situation. Huffing out a breath, you leaned further, your fingers brushing over the latch. You managed to twist it after half standing up on the couch, pushing the window out wide.
You promptly lost your balance in the process.
The sudden screech to the guitar was all that filled the air once you landed haphazardly in Jae’s lap, his instrument the only thing between both of you right now. You had attempted to reach out to stabilise your failing balance, hands now resting on his shoulders, your leg bent weirdly underneath you over one of his thighs.
You should have been able to right yourself immediately. Chuckle it off with your best friend as you had done many a time when either of you had been clumsy like this. However, it felt as if time has stopped entirely. As you stared into Jae’s round eyes that showed the surprise scratched deeply within them, you couldn’t stop the feeling that you were sinking.
Sinking in his gaze, into his lap further, into his heart. Or at least, your heart sure was falling despite how still your bodies had become.
It wasn’t often when you felt like this, but you could admit it wasn’t the first time. Somewhere you had fallen in love with all the nagging banter, the flippant remarks and his soulful singing voice. That was why you hung around at the studio these days, and why, despite having a full academic year, you had opted to help promote the band.
You yearned for those moments where he’d stop being the awkward meme kid from next door and reach into your soul with every breath he made at the end of his lines, his lyrics and voice melding into one.
And yet, Jae hadn’t been singing all afternoon. You had no reason to be this affected and you finally blinked, slowly at first. Realisation dawned on you that it had been over a minute of you sitting in his lap like this and you laughed airily, trying to dislodge the intense feelings you had been drowning within.
“Oh!” you exclaimed with another airy laugh. “Whoops.”
“Whoops?” Jae echoed softly, scrutinising you with his unwavering stare.
“I’m okay!” you announced, still laughing, albeit sounding a little desperate now. You also needed more air than what the window was gently blowing into the room. “Thanks for catching my fall.”
You removed your hands from his shoulders and it was only then that you realised his own were at your waist, holding you upright. It had all happened so quickly, you didn’t even notice that he had actually saved you from slipping further. But unlike your retreat, Jae’s hands remained on your sides, the pressure digging deeper. You bit at your lip, wondering why he had saved you when his precious guitar was between you and could have been at risk.
You gasped with the thought process. “Is your guitar-”
“Are you okay?” he intervened and you nodded softly. “Really? You look like you’re about to cry. Your skin is turning blotchy.”
Trust Jae to kill the mood. Yanking free, you put space between you and him, taking in a deep breath. You were surprised to see Jae do the same, your eyes narrowing on him slightly.
What was he affected by?
“Practice,” you blurted out, waving your arms about at him. “You need to practice.”
“When do I get to do it for real?” he asked and your head snapped back in his direction, your mind more than frazzled now.
“Do what for real?”
“What will all this practice do for us, Y/N?” he repeated, his eyes firmly attached to yours. “I want to know when the real deal is going to come along for us.”
“Well, regionals is-”
“Us,” Jae reiterated, placing his guitar down on the space you had once been seated at. Standing up, he walked to where you stood; licking his lips a little to moisten them.
You cursed the giant somersault your stomach did in reaction to such a simple action.
“Us?” you said, and Jae nodded. “What about us? I’m not in the band.”
“We came before the band,” he stated, nodding along with his statement. “We existed before it.”
“What riddles are you talking about?” you breathed uncomfortably, tearing your gaze away from Jae’s. You really had no idea. Or, you didn’t want to believe in it.
It was better that way.
“I saved what was more important to me just now,” Jae told you and you turned once again back to his face. He was hesitant despite speaking about what was on his mind. As if he had held back one too many times now. It surprised you, and you sighed quietly, shaking your head.
“I could have broken your guitar.”
“I could have fixed it,” he replied and you blinked rapidly.
“You love your guitar!”
“I love you too,” he murmured, stilling once the words were out. Except for the pink tinge to his ears, he seemed unaffected. Jae then smiled with relief. “Did you hear me?”
“I think I did.”
“I love you too,” he told you again, this time with more conviction. There was no way to hide your growing smile, soon grinning at each other.
And then Jae whined. “Why aren’t you telling me back?!”
“Huh?”
“I said I love you! You’re supposed to say it back if you feel that way too!” he explained, voice laced with accusation. His eyes popped behind his glasses. “You don’t feel the same?!”
“Of course I do, you idiot!”
“Then say it!”
“I can’t just say it on the spot, Jae!” you complained, moving to go around him. However, he pulled you back in front.
“I just did!”
“Well, good for you, I’m feeling under pressure about it now!” you grumbled and Jae chuckled, tugging you with him as he returned to the couch. You squeaked when he yanked you down onto his lap, his smile mischievous.
“So let’s go back to this then.”
“You’re feeling too good right now,” you observed and Jae nodded.
“I told you how I feel. It’s kind of liberating, you should try it.”
“Nice try, Jae.”
“So I need to keep trying?” he murmured, brushing your hair back from your face, his smile growing. “Dude, you are so much work.”
“You can’t tell me you love me and then call me dude!” you said exasperatedly and Jae shrugged.
“It’s me, Y/N. Some things might be changing between us, but I’m not going to change.”
“Fair call,” you responded, your hands finding their way to his chest. Jae watched you intently, his ears turning pink again. “Oh! This is a new thing about you.”
“So some things might change about me,” he confirmed, leaning his face closer to yours. “I might be inclined to do things like this more often.”
You frowned. “What, have me sit in your lap whilst we’re in the studio together?”
“Nah,” he breathed, his mouth dangerously close to yours now. “More than that.”
Finally, he kissed you. It was soft, barely moving. Your eyes fluttered shut as you pressed into his lips, seeking more from him. Jae responded, pulling you into his upper body, supporting your weight against his chest as he anchored a hand at the back of your head, soon kissing you with demand.
You were seeing stars when you finally pulled away, galaxies forming behind your eyes. When you finally looked at your best friend, you grinned at him. “I love you, Jae.”
“What was that? I barely heard you.”
“I. Love. You.”
He smiled possibly the best smile you had ever seen graced his lips in your entire existence. And then he kissed you again briefly. “Now that’s more like it.”

Looking over at you, Brian’s smile grew unchecked, tilting his head to the side as he watched you. “What did you just say?”
“Why are you asking me to repeat it when I know you heard me?” you wondered with a sigh, your lips failing to hold back your amusement. Even if he was annoying with his teasing, you couldn’t help but react and he knew this. You began to collect your laptop and lecture supplies, finally shooting him a quick look in the process. “Can I come to the studio today?”
Brian had started dating you just as the new semester began. All of last semester, you had been in several of his classes and flirty banter was easily established between you both. He knew you liked him and the feeling was mutual, but with his concentration on the band and getting into a routine with his studies, Brian had held off from asking you out until recently.
And since you had answered easily and fell into a routine with him that made for optimal band time, studying and dating life, he wondered why it had taken him so long to make you officially his girlfriend.
Just thinking about how you were now his made him smile all too happily.
“Brian,” you called and he blinked away from his thoughts, finding you standing beside him with your thumb hiked in the direction of the lecture hall’s exit. “Are you ready to go?”
Nodding, he collected his things hastily and slung his bag over his shoulder, following you out into the atrium of the small lecture block. Reaching for your hand, he grinned and recovered from his bout of thought.
“So, the studio huh?”
“Well, you’ve never taken me there before,” you pointed out and Brian hummed in acknowledgement.
It was the one place he had yet to show you. Although you had seen him perform a few times and met all the band members before, you hadn’t actually joined him for a session. Admittedly, that had been intentional. Band sessions were kind of messy, with a lot of stopping and starting and conversations over how things should be improved or changed. When he was performing, it was the end product and you would see him at his best. And since you had gushed more than once about how attractive he was when doing just that, Brian didn’t exactly want to remove that image from your mind.
He didn’t want to seem any less impressive when the stage lights weren’t shining brightly on him.
Still, he was equally ready. The band was a big part of his life, and he spent several evenings a week practising hard at his skills. You had been his girlfriend long enough now that it seemed foolish to separate the two worlds. Swinging your hand in his, Brian nodded softly. “Do you want to come?”
“Of course.”
“Really? I might look silly.”
“You couldn’t possibly look any less handsome than you do right now and you’re literally doing nothing,” you assured and his lips twitched with the compliment. Nudging him playfully, you looked at him with a bright expression. “Plus, I want to see you play just for me.”
“Oh, we’re hoping for a serenade?” Brian concluded as your expression turned bashful. Kissing your temples, he laughed lightly. “There was an ulterior motive all along huh?”
“Hey! My boyfriend is a talented singer and musician. Can you blame me for wanting to have a special moment to myself?”
“We better get a move on then. The rest of the guys will turn up in just a little over an hour. I’ll let you see what you want to before it gets more chaotic, how does that sound?”
Clinging onto his arm with your other hand, you nodded eagerly as you bit your bottom lip. “Today’s going to be the best!”
Tumblr media
Once at the studio, Brian felt shy. He had directed you to the couch against the wall, discarding his bag down beside you. And then he walked over to his bass setup, slinging the guitar strap over his head and plucked mindlessly at the strings on the instrument. Brian glanced at your expression, chuckling awkwardly a moment later.
“What should I do?”
“Pretend I’m not here and just warm up like usual,” you suggested and Brian rolled his eyes.
“How can I with you staring that intently at me?”
“Should I look away?”
He shook his head. “No, no, I can do it.”
“Of course you can, Mr. Musician,” you breathed and Brian grinned, nodding at your nickname. He looked down at his instrument and then took a seat in the chair in his area, running through some easy exercises to warm up his fingers. Boldness came forth with your encouragement and he started to play one of the songs that he had penned whilst thinking of you when you weren’t dating yet. You leaned forward when he started to sing, hanging off the edge of the seat by the end of his performance.
You clapped gleefully. “I knew I was missing out when I never came here.”
“Do you think so?” he mused and then took off his bass and stood up, coming over to your side. You reached for his lips softly and then looked back over at the other instruments. Brian caught your gaze and fuelled on by your positive reaction, he pointed to Wonpil’s keyboard. “I can play every instrument in here.”
“Can you?” you asked in amazement, your eyes round with your building anticipation. “Could you show me?”
“Sure!” Brian enthused, kissing your cheek before moving to the keyboard and turning it on. You got up from your seat to approach the area, watching on and ready for the next performance. Brian successfully played the bridge to one of their earlier songs on the keyboard. Then he moved to Jae’s guitar and attempted to pull off some of the most iconic sounds his friend had made whilst on stage lately, making you grin excitedly. He played a round of acoustic guitar and sung your favourite Day6 song and then sat down on the stool behind the drums.
“No way!” you cried, watching as Brian spun the drumsticks around his fingers. “Don’t tell me you can play the drums too.”
Shooting you a smug look, he then began to play, focusing on keeping the right rhythm before winking at you. You giggled and Brian felt content with his attempt to show off in front of you.
Once again, he was surprised with the regret he felt from not bringing you here earlier. Today had gone all too smoothly.
“Wahey, what’s this now?” a voice called and Jae came in through the studio’s front door, followed by the rest of Day6. Brian stopped banging on the drums and stood up. His older friend looked at you and grinned. “A private showing?”
“Brian was just showing me how he can play everything in here.”
“Ahhh,” Sungjin hummed before smirking. “He was being a show off.”
“I was just doing a little,” Brian piped up, chuckling sheepishly.
Wonpil moved towards his keyboard and flicked it back on, his fingers effortlessly playing a melody. You gasped and the man grinned. “I guess we should put on a show for Y/N since she’s here.”
Before Brian could object, you had dashed forward with Wonpil’s suggestion, nodding eagerly. “Would you?! I love how you play piano, Wonpil.”
His friend blushed and looked shyly at you before launching into one of their ballads. By this time, Jae had grabbed his guitar and starting to play an intricate piece overtop of Wonpil’s music. It fitted with the melody still and your jaw dropped, mesmerised when he started to hum incoherent lyrics along with the music. Sungjin picked up next, actually singing out a chorus to one of their songs and that prompted Dowoon to launch into playing the drums, the four members all performing with ease. Brian glanced between his friends and the evident adoration now upon your face, unable to stop the annoyance rising within him.
Had they purposely just upstaged him after all his efforts? He could hear their slight mistakes as a trained musician but looking in your direction showed you were none the wiser, just enjoying the performance. What was worse was he just stood there, not joining in and it sounded fine without him and his bass.
All his satisfaction from before had evaporated, and he began to feel foolish for showing off when the true masters of their instruments were here doing their thing. He had always felt like an equal partner in creating music with his friends. But right now, he was immature in his reaction.
Jae seemed to notice first, ceasing his guitar with a screech and looked in his direction. “Bro, where is your head at? We need you!”
“No, it sounds good without me,” he called over the top of Dowoon’s drumming and Sungjin held his hands up in sign to stop the music. The leader then turned to Brian and gave him a pointed look. Glancing back at you again watching on curiously, Brian sighed, picking up his bass and smiled forcibly. “Well, if you insist.”
“Should we practice now?” Sungjin asked and everyone nodded. You smiled and quietly slipped back over to the couch, picking up your phone and dropping your focus to it. Brian closed his eyes momentarily to clear his mind and then on Dowoon’s count, waited for his turn to play.
Tumblr media
This practice session had not been his best in a long time. Brian had moments where he had captured a good sound and looked to see if you were watching, only to turn dejected at finding you staring at your phone. And then, when he was making mistakes, you were attentive, shooting him commiserating smiles whenever he caught your eye. After two hours, Jae announced he had a date and Sungjin followed along quickly to see if his girlfriend was finished with work. You said your goodbyes to the remaining two members of Day6 as they stepped out of the studio and waited for Brian to pack up his equipment.
When he was ready to go, you held out your hand towards him. He sighed and took it, though he couldn’t stop brooding over how everything had gone today.
“Brian,” you said and he flicked his gaze towards yours as you walked down the hallway of the building together. “You’re really cute, you know?”
“What?”
Chewing on your lip as you suppressed a grin, you stopped, tugging your boyfriend to face you. “You’re ridiculously adorable when frustrated.”
“You… you picked up on it?”
“I’ve been dating you for some time now and was your friend longer than that. I’m pretty sure I can tell when you’re bothered by now.”
Pouting softly, Brian nodded. “I wanted today to go better.”
“Better? But it was amazing!”
“I know it was for you,” he pointed out a little bitterly, picking back up his step and walking with you towards the elevator. “But it wasn’t for me.”
“Why?”
“It sounds childish,” he pre-warned and you grinned, as if you expected it. Brian whined and you giggled at his annoyance. “Y/N, don’t!”
“I knew it! You felt upstaged.”
Brian gaped at your suspicions and then pouted again, scrunching up his face in the process. “Was I that obvious?”
“Just a little,” you mused with another giggle. Once inside the elevator, you immediately wrapped your arms around his waist and snuggled in. Brian sighed, holding you close even if he felt his frustrations still bubbling over. The doors sprung open to the ground floor but you moved just in time to hit the top floor, sending you both back upstairs.
“What are you doing?”
“Healing you,” you mumbled from back within the embrace and Brian frowned. Looking up at him, you grinned. “Your feelings are hurt and I don’t want you to leave here tonight feeling like that.”
“I just wanted to show my good side to you,” he muttered and you reached a hand up for his face, shaking your head at his statement.
“Do you know how many girls would swoon at having someone as amazing as you in their lives? You’re dedicated to all that you do, you’re ridiculously handsome, sing like the Gods blessed you themselves and can do so much as a musician. Not to mention all the times you’ve come to my aide to help me with any issue I have. You can even look good changing a light bulb, Brian. I’ve seen it firsthand. Must you be good at everything?”
“You know that’s not true,” he replied with a look in your direction but you tapped his nose and grumbled at him.
“It is too. The problem isn’t that they showed how good they were, Brian. It was that you don’t want to show me anything to make me like you any less. However, that’s bound to happen. We all have flaws and we all have bad days. I’m certain I’m not always enticing you to love me.”
“Love?” he echoed and you laughed.
“Is that all you heard from me right now?!”
“Well, no, I heard all the rest but-”
“Yes, Brian. I’m falling in love with you. So you need to relax. I’m going to be at your side, even if you have a bad day. And I’m not going to love your friends more just because Jae sings really-”
“Babe, I get it,” he intervened as the elevator door sprung open and Brian smiled. “I think I’m good to go back down to the ground level now.”
“Had enough of your heart soaring as the floors went up?” you teased and he laughed, leaning over to hit the button to go down before pulling you in close again. Staring at your lips, he shook his head.
“I’m pretty sure by the time we get back down there my heart rate will have skyrocketed.”
And as he kissed you passionately to prove his point, Brian relaxed. He hadn’t realised how high his expectations had become in trying to make everything between you both always good. Your reassurance did more than enough to remind him that he was only human. Knowing you would embrace him, even with all his flaws was enough for him to forget all about how he was feeling in the studio just before.
Well, almost.
When you stepped out of the building, Brian looked at you and swallowed. “So, you’re not saying Jae sings better than me right?”
“Well, I wonder if when Jae’s girlfriend says she loves him that he tells he loves her back immediately or not?” you responded with a shrug of your shoulders and Brian groaned.
“Couldn’t you tell from all those kisses just now?! I’m falling in love you too, Y/N!”
You laughed heartily and wrapped your arms around his waist as you walked along the sidewalk. “You can’t hold the number one spot in every situation, Brian.”
“Wait, so you’re saying his voice-”
“Sungjin’s is my favourite,” you announced proudly and then darted away from his side, squealing when he chased after you.
Brian caught you easily and reeled you back to his chest, panting to catch his breath. And then he nodded. “Okay, you’re right I can’t top the list in everything. As long as I have you though, I know that’s enough for me.”

It was the biggest scoop thus far for you to take on as a reporter for the campus newspaper. You had only transferred to this university at the start of the semester, and since the roles in the editing room had been well established before you came along, you had been lucky enough to be writing a weekly column as it was. Still, there was only so much of your journalism skills you could exercise in the highlights reel you had been assigned to.
So when a seasoned writer for the paper, Maggie, had fallen over skiing in the weekend, well, you had been worried for her, of course.
And secretly grateful for the opportunity to snag some of her workload.
“This is a big deal, Y/N. Day6 won another band competition on Friday night and we need someone to interview the members and write about their growing population on and off campus as a band.”
“I can do it,” you assured your editor-in-chief with a confident nod.
Gerrie sighed and looked around at the rest of the hustle in the office and then back at your face. You could tell he was hoping he could rely on someone else, perhaps someone who had already proven their talent in his eyes.
But this was going to be your moment. You had been accepted onto the newspaper team because of the stellar recommendations from your past university. There, you had usually held the third most important story of each edition. You had even saved the dying campus cafeteria after writing about their surprising culinary art.
So writing about a campus band would be a piece of cake.
“Alright, you have four days to interview them and present your article to me. It’s running in our next release.”
“I’ll get it to you on time, Gerrie,” you confirmed and picked up your notebook you had been scribbling in, shifting up out of the chair in front of the senior.
“Y/N,” he called out and you stopped to look back at Gerrie. His gaze pierced yours. “Don’t mess this up, I’m counting on you.”
“I won’t let you down, boss.”
Returning to your desk, you let an elated smile cross over your lips momentarily. You were wired up, excited to finally let your reporting prowess shine. Glancing down at the name written in the middle of the page of your notebook, you picked up your pen and circled Day6 a couple of times.
Oh yes, this would be amazing.
Once you found out who Day6 even was, that is.
Tumblr media
Thankfully, it was never all that hard to research anything and your lack of knowledge about the five member band had been replaced with notes on all of their current accolades, how many gigs they had played this year, a fansite address, and most importantly, where their studio was located. You had even contacted the band over their official Instagram account and arranged an interview for the following evening. On your way over, you hummed along to one of their songs, Better Better, playing on Spotify through your phone, feeling more than ready to meet the band now known as regional finalists.
You could tell upon the studio door opening that this title was a big deal for them.
Sungjin, their leader, laughed heartily after greeting you, clasping his hands together and looking towards his members as he gestured for you to take a seat. “I never thought we’d be interviewed by the school paper.”
“Given you were interviewed by the local news station, it can’t be all that bad to have me here today.”
Having memorised all the members’ names, you smiled at Wonpil when he bashfully smiled, waving his hands around to dismiss the notion. “No, we’re really happy. Thank you for thinking of us!”
“Dude, you’re shaking, are you really happy?” Jae teased and leaned forward in his chair. He attention then switched to you. “You’re not taking a photo of us tonight, right?”
“No, I can use a photo from your latest gig, if you’d prefer. Your manager has sent me more than enough photos to pick from,” you offered and he somewhat relaxed, a lazy smile crossing his lips. You smiled knowingly, he definitely had a relationship with their manager as you suspected from her glowing conversation about the lead guitarist in particular.
Clearing your throat, you launched into your prepared questions after confirming it was alright to record the interview. It didn’t take long for Brian and Jae to take over, answering what you needed to know with relative ease. You picked up that whilst Sungjin was the leader, answering questions on the spot was more Brian’s forte. Still, the former was present, throwing in some witty remarks and making sure his younger members did participate.
You noticed that every time Dowoon talked, his ears would turn pink and he’d chuckle a lot. It was rather endearing, and you wondered just how many of their fans liked his shy persona. You could almost guarantee he was the type to get embarrassed being stopped on campus for a signature or photo.
“Oh yeah, he’s totally the type,” Jae confirmed with a laugh at the expense of the drummer. And then he nodded. “But Dowoon is the dark horse of our team.”
“Without a drummer keeping you all on time, how can you effectively work together,” you agreed, smiling brightly at the student now almost as red as Wonpil’s shirt. “How do you feel about the term Jae mentioned?”
Dowoon rubbed at the back of his neck awkwardly and then grinned. “Well, uh, I guess I’m kind of important.”
“Kind of?” Brian echoed with a laugh. “You’re definitely important.”
“Shall we go as far as to dub you the most important member?” you offered with an encouraging smile and Dowoon shook his head. “Come on now, if you don’t keep the time, then how can you play together as in sync as you do?”
“I guess that makes sense.”
You clapped your hands together and beamed at the rest of the group. “Thank you so much for your time today. I’m looking forward to your future achievements. And the show this weekend, as well.”
“Oh, you’re coming?” Sungjin asked and you nodded.
“Sweet, if your article goes well, you can come to the after-party,” Jae offered and shrugged when Wonpil gaped at him for suggesting it on those terms.
You merely chuckled. “Well I’ll consider myself invited since you all made it easy for me to write this up, I can tell.”
You thanked them all again for their time and then headed towards the door to the studio, smiling back at everyone before stepping out.
You felt relieved. Not only had the interview gone well, but you already felt inspired to draft up your first copy of the piece. Hurrying towards the elevator, you only hoped that your hands could keep up typing the thoughts now swirling around in your mind.

“Well, I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I’m super impressed,” Gerrie announced when you handed in your article for submission. You beamed with his compliment, watching as he tried not to smile at you when he looked up. “I guess the highlights reel was not the right place to put you.”
“No, I think it humbled me.”
“Well, I’ll have to do some rearranging of the team. We’ll definitely need more of your articles running in the paper, Y/N.”
Thanking him repeatedly, you waited until you were out of the office before you began to celebrate. Pumping your hand up into the air, you let out a cheer, did a little dance on the spot and then patted your own shoulder.
When you were done singing your praises, you looked up and found someone watching you. Instead of feeling embarrassed, you grinned happily and approached the tall man whose ears were now the same colour as your blouse. “Destiny called you here, right?”
“Who’s Destiny?” Dowoon wondered and then eyed you carefully. “Are you alright, Y/N?”
“Never been better.”
“You ran around in a circle,” he pointed out with a small smirk. So he had enjoyed the performance you had just put on.
Nudging him playfully, you couldn’t contain your happiness. “My scoop on Day6 was a hit. I was complimented by the steely Gerrie Moore. That is not an easy feat and it’s all thanks to you.”
“Really?” he genuinely enthused and grinned. “Let me buy you a celebratory coffee then!”
“Only if you allow me to buy you a piece of cake to say thanks for helping me out,” you compromised and Dowoon laughed, nodding once.
“Are you free now?”
“Didn’t you see me just run around in a circle? Do you think I could possibly be up to anything more productive?” you mentioned with a laugh and Dowoon chuckled.
“Well then, coffee and cake it is.”
You had believed that conversation with Dowoon would be hard to achieve. Admittedly, at first, he had seemed shy. But he persisted through in asking you how you had been and you easily steered the conversation towards your hobbies and interests.
“You know, I’ve always wanted to learn the drums,” you mentioned and Dowoon’s eyebrows arched curiously.
“Really?”
You nodded. “Of course. How cool would it be to vent your annoyance by banging something?”
“There’s more to drumming than just banging at the instrument, Y/N. It takes a lot of skill.”
“Of course there is,” you agreed and then leaned over the table towards him. Dowoon eyed you cautiously. “Reckon you could show me sometime?”
“You… you want to learn?”
Nodding eagerly, you pointed to the exit. “Are you free now?”
“You just do everything on a whim, don’t you?” he asked with a laugh and you shrugged.
“When I have an idea, I want to follow it through. So, can you teach me?”
“I bet after thirty minutes you’ll never want to drum again,” he proclaimed and you gaped at Dowoon, rolling up your sleeves as if you were preparing yourself to prove him wrong.
You smirked. “I’m competitive.”
“I can tell.”
“Come on then, let’s go so I can prove you wrong!”
Tumblr media
You did in fact, last longer than thirty minutes. But you had to admit, it was a whole lot harder than you expected. Most of the time, Dowoon had you simply kicking the bass drum in a stable rhythm. That was relatively easy until your leg tired.
Dowoon smirked. “It’s not easy, is it?”
“I can do it,” you corrected, heaving in a deep breath and trying to regain your tempo. When you had it, you smiled smugly and gestured for what was next.
“Y/N, most people learn the basics for weeks on end. You need to build up your leg muscles on the kick drum first.”
“No I want to try and incorporate my hands too!” you bit back, looking at the drum kit before you. Pointing at a part of it, you looked over at Dowoon. “This is the floor Tom, right?”
“You know your parts,” he replied with a surprised smile.
“When I research something I have an interest in, I like to know all the facts,” you commented, heaving in another breath.
Maintaining this beat was a lot harder than you wanted to let on.
“Oh yeah, is that how you knew stuff about us?”
“Of course. A reporter’s job is to find the facts and bring the story to life with them.”
“So you know about us?” he repeated and you glanced in Dowoon’s direction, your focus narrowing as he rubbed at the back of his neck. “I bet you know a lot about Jae and Brian. They’re popular with the fans.”
“Your favourite colour is red, you have a dog and a cat, you love most types of meals with meat in them and you strangely like green tea ice cream.”
Dowoon blinked, and his ears turned red. “You know all that?”
“What, that’s just after a simple search from your fansites. Kind of crazy to think you have fans compiling lists like this, huh?”
“I’m grateful,” he mumbled and you nodded.
“I thought you would be.”
“Do you know anything else?” he wondered, his hand mindlessly playing with the cymbals. You examined his motion for a moment before giving up on kick pedal, collapsing over the snare drum.
“I know that my leg is about to fall off,” you heaved and Dowoon chuckled. Looking up at him, you smiled. “And that you have a nice talking voice. Your laugh is really cute too. And when you smile, I almost forget what I’m talking about. At the interview, you were the one I wanted to hear from the most.”
“Really?” Dowoon tried not to grin but it spread across his lips all the same. “You like talking to me?”
“I do. And admittedly, you were right. I don’t think I’m cut out for drumming. You’re super talented, Dowoon. I just wanted to spend more time with you.”
“Why would you want to do that?”
You chewed on your lip with hesitation. However, you were known to be bold with all your thoughts. It was how you were an excellent reporter. Sometimes, the risks you took were worth a moment of feeling out of your depth.
“Well, I saw what your ideal type was listed as and hoped I matched up well enough for you to want to spend time with me. And maybe go out on a date?” For a moment, Dowoon was frozen. You weren’t even sure he was breathing still and you watched carefully to ensure he wasn’t going to collapse or anything. And then he seemed to come back alive again, unable to control his emotions. His eyes were bright and he swapped between chuckling and grinning giddily. His ears were pink, as was his neck too. He seemed to be overheating.
Reaching out for his hand, you squeezed it, hoping he would calm down a little. It seemed to work, even though Dowoon had rested against the wall to hold himself up. “You’re bold.”
“I told you, when I show an interest in something, I need to know all the facts. There’s no point in me trying to play coy with you when I like you. But, if you don’t feel the same-”
“No, I definitely do. I just… you really do match my ideal type. I’m kind of surprised that you actually exist.”
It was your turn to blush finally and Dowoon seemed to like this a little too much. “Hey, about that after-party this weekend…”
“Want to come as my date?” Dowoon asked before you could suggest anything and you nodded happily, swinging your still linked hands back and forth gently.
“I’d really like that.”
“Can I request something though?”
“What?”
Dowoon grinned. “I don’t know nearly as much as you do. Reckon you could write up a facts list like the one you found on me? That way I can learn about you too.”
“Don’t you want to find out slowly like how most people do whilst dating?”
Dowoon shook his head. “If you’re going to know all you do about me first, I want to level out the playing field.”
“I’ll have it to you by tomorrow then,” you answered, standing up from the drum kit. You weren’t prepared for how weak your leg was, and stumbled, Dowoon reaching out to catch you. Your hands went to his middle and your eyes snapped up to his.
“Oh,” you commented, blinking slowly. “I guess that’s true too.”
“What is?”
“That drummers tend to have really good bodies.”
“Y/N!” Dowoon spluttered and then laughed. “Maybe you know too much.”
“It’s my job to know a lot about things,” you countered and Dowoon nodded. You then slipped your arms around his waist, nestling into his body. You waited to see what his reaction would be but he didn’t pull away, his arms gingerly sliding up to pat you gently.
“Let me catch up. I want to know a lot of things about you too.”

Band Sessions: Sungjin

You paused before you approached the door, quickly checking yourself over. Once you were satisfied with how one could look whilst in their work uniform and inhaled deeply, you marched the three remaining steps towards the studio door. Knocking, you waited for someone to answer it, mentally hoping it was who you had checked yourself over for.
Your smile deflated a little when it was Wonpil. However, the brunette grinned and gestured you inside. “Guys, Y/N is here. Break time!”
Entering the studio always made your heart race a little. Normally because some of the members of Day6 were still hovering over their instruments, music blaring around the room until everyone realised or smelt your arrival. You smiled politely as you set down the bags of food, holding yourself rigidly as they all came in above you like swooping birds pecking away at their orders.
“Oh yeah, this burger is going to be great! Thanks, Y/N!” Dowoon enthused, Brian tipping his pack of fries towards you in gratitude as he stuffed a few into his mouth. Wonpil was busy handing out drinks and Jae was complaining that he spilled the overflowed one on his shirt again.
And then finally, there was Sungjin.
He grinned. “You’re a lifesaver you know.”
“I don’t know about that,” you replied, chewing on your lip in hopes you wouldn’t come across too giddy.
All he had to do was speak and you were mush for this man.
“No seriously, I think if you hadn’t of stopped by right now, Jae might have lost it at Wonpil for missing his cue to sing one more time.”
“Ah, well, I’ll accept my life-saving skills with pride.”
“You should,” he confirmed with a hearty laugh and then frowned at the remaining food. Sungjin looked up at you. “Not staying?”
“Boss is in tonight, there’s no break time for me,” you explained, smiling politely when Brian pointed in your direction.
“You know, that’s illegal.”
“Kind of want to keep my job, all the same,” you replied, darting your focus towards Sungjin.
Because if you didn’t work at their usual delivery store, then you wouldn’t get to cross paths with Sungjin as much as you did now.
Nodding your head lightly in farewell, you backed off towards the door, going to close it behind you when Sungjin followed you over. You blinked curiously. “Did I forget something?”
“No, I uh… you will eat when your shift ends, right?”
You nodded happily. “Of course!”
“Okay good, because eating is important,” he announced, rubbing his neck before chuckling. “Hey, uh thanks again for the delivery. I know we’re only down the street but still, you go above and beyond for us.”
“It’s what I do!” you enthused and Sungjin nodded.
“Well, I guess you better get back to what you do, Y/N. See you next time!”
Your smile dropped as soon as the door shut, slumping in posture.
Today’s visit was far too short.
Tumblr media
Thankfully, it wasn’t long until you received another order for a studio drop-off, and like always, you ensured you looked your best, smiling graciously upon arrival. Several more drop-offs happened in this fashion, and sometimes you’d have a quick bite to eat with them and others you would head off early. Either way, you were seeing Sungjin at least twice a week off-campus, which was more than the times you saw him on it. Your timetables, so you had gathered from observation and casual conversations, showed that when you were both at university during the day, you were in opposite directions. Even if you had enough time to cross paths with him, it would take you fifteen minutes to walk over to his department, and by that time, the chance to meet up would be lost.
So the odd occasion when you did match up always startled you more than it should. Sungjin chuckled softly. “Oh hey, I’m sorry, did I interrupt you?”
“No!” you whispered hastily, shaking your hands to dismiss his claim, your lips curling up into a giddy grin. “Not at all.”
“That looks like quite the textbook,” he murmured, and you nodded gently. “Got a long study session ahead of you then?”
“Thankfully, I only need to read a few chapters out of it for my assignment.”
“That’s a relief,” he mentioned and then tapped you on the shoulder. “Well, I’ll let you get back to it.”
“Are you not here to study?” you wondered, your voice a little loud for library etiquette. Blushing, you bowed your head apologetically to those you had disturbed before darting your attention back to Sungjin.
“I uh, came to find a place to relax,” he admitted, rubbing his neck. He looked at the empty chair beside you and you yanked it out, Sungjin slipping into it, placing his bag on the tabletop to rest his head onto. He gave you a quick smile. “Jae and our manager have started using the studio for extra-curricular activities so I figured I can’t go nap there in between lectures.”
“I’ll make sure to wake you before your next class,” you told him and he nodded, pulling out his phone and earbuds.
Sungjin hesitated before thrusting one towards you. “I recorded one of our new songs. Want to hear it?”
Nodding eagerly, you took the earbud and placed it into your ear. Sungjin hit play on the music and then closed his eyes.
There would be no more study for you now. At least, not from the textbook before you. As the music fed your soul, you shifted in your seat so you could have a better angle to gaze at him. Sungjin was so peaceful, instantly relaxed in his position. Placing your elbow up on the table to support your head that fell into your hand, you watched as he rested, imprinting every part of his face into your mind.
God, he was so handsome. You loved the strong arch to his eyebrows, the light forehead crinkles he had as he dreamed. His eyelashes were longer than you had noticed before, and his nose made you smile. Your eyes then transfixed on his lips, wondering if they were soft or not.
You knew it was foolish but you were certain you were in love with Sungjin.
There was nothing to dislike about him, and your crush had dragged out for over a year now. Still, you were aware that it was an unrequited love. Sungjin just was friendly with you, happy to talk about the weather or good recipes. There were no signs that he felt the same as you did, and instead of dwelling on this thought, you simply enjoyed the unreserved moment where you could admire the man before you. You allowed yourself to fantasise that this could be something you did as a couple, Sungjin seeking you out to nap whilst you studied before going off to your respective classes and then meeting back up for dinner. You thought about how supportive you could be to his band on the weekends when they had a booked gig and he could come to your debates. Hand-holding whilst on campus and gentle, soft kisses that warmed you like the summer wind.
It was beautiful and you sighed in content, lowering your head onto the textbook, still staring at Sungjin.
How you yearned for all you had just envisioned.
It was quiet when you eventually sat back up, blinking away your disorientation. You realised you were still in the library and after checking your watch, it was several hours later. Gasping, you then looked over at the empty space beside you, your gaze shifting all around you until you found a note over your pencil case.
Looks like you needed a nap too. I left my phone here with you so the music could keep you company. I’ll be at the studio tonight if you want to return it.
- Sungjin.
Glancing down at your arm, you snapped up his phone that was still playing through the catalogue of Day6’s songs on repeat. You were surprised by the gesture, smiling when you wondered how hard it was to leave his device behind with you. Holding it fondly within your hand, you tidied up your space with the other, slinging your bag over your shoulder and then headed for the exit. Checking the time on Sungjin’s phone again, you hoped he was still where he said he’d be.
Tumblr media
“Y/N,” Sungjin greeted when he opened the studio door half an hour later, frowning when he noticed all that you carried. “You went to your work?”
“I didn’t know if you had eaten dinner or not so I got some food,” you confessed, peering around the studio. It was otherwise unoccupied, which strangely made you feel more at ease.
Besides, you had only gotten enough food for two.
“You didn’t have to,” he murmured and you looked up at Sungjin who quickly grinned. “But I was kind of hungry, so thanks.”
“I don’t know what else you eat so I got something I knew you enjoyed,” you replied happily, settling everything down on the table. And then you pulled his phone out of your pocket. “To say thanks for letting me borrow this.”
“Hey, it’s no problem. I didn’t want to disturb you.”
“I hadn’t realised I fell asleep staring-” Your eyes widened momentarily as you caught yourself. Sungjin watched you curiously. “Staring at that textbook ha-ha!”
“Right, no, I feel you,” he agreed with his signature chuckle, gesturing you to take a seat.
Unlike you, Sungjin seemed more awkward with it just being the two of you. As you chewed on your food, the silence now stifling any of your attempts to converse with him, you wondered if you had gone too far getting food just now. Maybe it would have been better to just hand him the phone and go.
Except, you were kind of living out your daydream right now. You had both fallen asleep together and met back up to eat dinner. You would humour yourself this one time and then never step over the boundaries again.
“So uh-” “You know-”
Both staring at each other, you giggled and then motioned for Sungjin to go first. He smiled. “So what did you think of the song?”
“The first one?” you asked and he nodded. You grinned. “I loved it. I think it’ll be a great hit at the show next weekend.”
“Oh, you know about that?” he asked and you pointed to the board where the schedule had been written on in detail. Sungjin laughed airily. “Right, of course. What would we do without our manager’s organisational skills?”
“So you are playing it at that show?”
“I dunno, will you be coming?”
You tilted your head to the side, watching as Sungjin’s gaze darted all around the place, flickering towards you every moment or so to gauge your expression. It hit you then that this wasn’t so one-sided after all. You smiled, which soon grew into a grin and for once you didn’t check yourself over it.
Your heart felt full.
“Do you want me there? Because I’ll come if you want that.”
“Yeah, that would be cool,” he breathed, clamping his eyes shut a moment later. “Okay, so that would actually be more than cool.”
“True or false,” you stated and Sungjin finally looked at you again, frowning at your statement. You grinned. “Did you stare at me sleeping before leaving?”
“Well-”
“True,” you announced with a giggle. “At least in my case it was before falling asleep. I gave up studying right away and studied your face instead.”
Sungjin laughed. “True as well for me. I was late to my class because I didn’t want to leave you.”
You were certain your heart was going to leap out of your chest with all the realisations you were having. Connecting all the little moments over the past year – the gestures, the haphazard attempts to keep you around just for a moment longer.
Maybe Sungjin was close to loving you as well.
“True or false,” he spoke up next, shifting closer to you on the couch. “You have wanted to kiss me for more than just today.”
“True,” you breathed immediately, sizing up his lips. “It’s been a year, Sungjin.”
“A whole year?” he repeated and you nodded. “Man, what was I thinking?”
“Can you just kiss me now without thinking about it?” you instructed in a voice a little louder than a whisper, leaning in midway to meet him. You had been wrong; his lips weren’t as soft as you thought earlier. But they were real and firmly attached to yours, sending you into delirium.
And that was more than what you could have ever expected when you fantasised about them.
“Come to the gig with me next week,” he said when he was done stealing your breath and you nodded. “Not as the girl who delivers us food. Not just as a fan of our music either.”
“What as then?”
“My girl. Come as my girlfriend,” he suggested and you grinned giddily.
“Does that mean you’ll make time for my debate club match the week after?”
Sungjin nodded. “Of course.”
“But as the guy I deliver food to?” you teased and Sungjin laughed. “Or as my boyfriend?”
“Which would you prefer?”
You nestled into his side and Sungjin instantly wrapped his arms around you. “You know, when I do have to do my job it’s going to be that much harder to just deliver the food and go now.”
“That’s okay, I’ll have to organise that you receive an extra tip.”
“Oh?”
“Mm, kissing in the hallway should be more than sufficient, right?”
You leaned in and kissed Sungjin again. “I don’t think I’m ever going to get used to doing that with you so that sounds like a good tip.”
“Yeah,” he agreed, staring at your lips with a hunger that wasn’t over the food he could taste upon them. “But just so we can get accustomed to it, I think we should keep on trying now.”
“It has been a year’s worth of waiting for this.”
“I can see how the studio works for Jae now,” Sungjin murmured, his lips a breath away from yours.
You could tell there would be more opportunity now to see Sungjin. And if it meant he made your heart sing every time you were in the studio with him, you were ready to ensure it sang loud and clear.
You were in love, after all.

Band Sessions: Wonpil
Tumblr media
Pairing: Kim Wonpil x reader
Genre: band au / university au / fluff
Warnings: none
Word count: 2305
Index: Jae | Sungjin | Young K | Wonpil | Dowoon
Tumblr media
“Careful, Y/N!” Wonpil called out, stepping over to your side and pulling you back before you bumped into a library trolley stacked with books. You blinked at your sudden change in place and then back at the obstacle your boyfriend had prevented you from knocking into.
Shooting him a grateful smile, you chuckled lightly. “What would I do without you?”
“End up with a lot more bruises,” he concluded, shaking his head.
Wonpil loved everything about you except that you were clumsy. Over the past two years of dating, he had learned all there was to you. And mostly it was all good stuff. You were the type of person who grounded him in his weaknesses and empowered his strengths. And he’d like to say he did the same for you, however, most of the time he was simply saving you from impending doom.
For all the good that came with you, you also attracted all sorts of chaos. He would never understand how or why but he had witnessed it enough now that you were a walking time bomb. If he spent an entire day with you and no accidents occurred to you, then it wasn’t a miracle. It only meant the next time was guaranteed to have more than one.
Despite your bad luck, you were rather upbeat about it all. “Thankfully you saw it before me!”
“How you didn’t is beyond me,” he remarked and you merely laughed.
“You’re right, I should have seen that trolley. Could you imagine the mess I would have made?”
Wonpil nodded, biting his bottom lip to hold in his sigh. He could see it all too well because he had seen it in the past. And all the bruises that you had gained from sending books flying on the third floor of the campus library.
If he wasn’t with you, he sometimes worried about what could potentially happen. You had an innate knack for tripping over your own feet, and so setting you free on the university campus full of other students and potential hazards could easily give him anxiety if he let it manifest. However, he had had to learn that it usually worked out for the better. You were naturally accident-prone and it wasn’t something he could protect you from.
Even if he tried his best to do so whenever he was with you.
Wonpil never wanted to treat you like a damsel in distress. In fact, he knew you’d hate it if he did. Sure, there were moments where you liked whenever he fussed over you after sustaining an injury, but for the most part, you had already lived over two decades on this earth and survived without him before you started dating. He had to believe that you would be safe otherwise he was certain his mind would implode from constant worry.
“So it’s band practice night, right?” you mentioned when you both left the study session you had been at the library for, giving Wonpil another one of your infamous smiles.
For all the trouble you could cause to his heart and mind, your smiles made up for it. That and the kisses you gave. After kissing him briefly, Wonpil nodded. “And for you?”
“I have a date with Netflix,” you proudly stated and Wonpil playfully gasped.
“A date?!”
“Lee Minho and Woo Dohwan will keep me company whilst you hang with the boys.”
“I’m feeling the need to cancel,” he teased before brushing his lips over your forehead. “So long as you know that when the date is over they remain in their world and you come back to mine.”
“Hm,” you pondered innocently, pursing your lips with your thoughts. Wonpil leant in to kiss them, mirroring the grin you gave him when he pulled back. “Will you come over when you’re done?”
Although he had shared a bed many times with you now since your relationship progressed, Wonpil always felt his cheeks warm up with the idea of holding you all night long. If he was honest, he wanted to do that every night. Nodding at you happily in response, you then squeezed him tightly into a hug before stepping away, his hand quick to reach out to stop your departure right away.
He didn’t want to part ways just yet.
“Good, well I’ll go home and enjoy my dinner and dramas instead of causing any trouble at the studio. Have a good session with the boys.”
“I won’t be too long.”
You smirked. “Take your time; I have a few episodes to catch up on.”
You pried your hand out of his and turned rapidly, losing your balance and he lurched after you, stopping when you righted yourself. You snapped your head to look back at him with a breathy chuckle. “I’m alright! Love you!”
“Love you so much you will end me,” he mumbled, watching you intently until you disappeared around the side of the building.
As Wonpil walked the short distance from the campus to the studio, he almost wished he had brought you along with him instead. He knew how dangerous that was. You had tripped over the cord to his keyboard in his apartment more times than he could count, and the instrument was up against a wall. Wonpil thought of all the cords to the equipment in the studio and shuddered. There was a lot of expensive gear in there that he wouldn’t want you to damage or hurt yourself on.
Even you were aware of how much it would be like testing fate. When he had invited you in the past, you had come up with multiple excuses in the beginning before admitting you didn’t want to ruin things for the band with your accident-prone tendencies. So you had never seen the band outside of performing at their gigs and usually it didn’t bother him. Wonpil had a short attention span whenever he was with you, and wouldn’t be very productive if he spent all his time staring at you instead of working as a team with his fellow bandmates.
Sometimes though, he wanted to just bring you along and deal with the consequences. And lately, that urge had been growing. With your official two year anniversary two weeks away, he wanted nothing more than to perform the song that he had written for you then. He knew he would eventually bring it up on stage but something special like a private performance really stood out to him as a desire he wanted to fulfil. Especially after the playful session with Brian’s girlfriend recently, Wonpil yearned to have you sit on the studio couch away from all the equipment and play for you.
Surely that would be easy enough to do, right? Throughout practice that night, Wonpil stared at the empty couch and then at the door. The pathway from both was relatively clear and if he assisted you to your seat, nothing should eventuate. That way he could play for you and protect the studio from any potential mishap as well. It was a solid plan and after discussing it with his friends, Wonpil headed over to your apartment after practice feeling excited by his thoughts. It would be the perfect gift for your anniversary, especially with the restaurant reservation he had booked for later in the evening.
By the time you opened the door to your apartment and looking more than ready for bed in your sloth themed pyjamas, Wonpil was confident. Nothing would go wrong because you would have him to make it all go off without a hitch.
Tumblr media
When your anniversary arrived, Wonpil wasn’t worried about anything going wrong today. In fact, all he felt all day long in your company was constant adoration and equal levels of disbelief that he had nurtured something this beautiful with you. He couldn’t understand just how lucky he had gotten, even if you spilled your drink on his shirt – thankfully it was only water – and tripped over and landed into his side awkwardly as you walked towards the studio. Usually, these moments would make him feel as if a bad omen was looming, yet today Wonpil felt more in control. He had saved you from falling and he would keep everything safe at the band session as well.
“Are you sure about this?” you questioned hesitantly, your expression clearly showing your concern. “I mean, this place is pretty special to you all.”
“All the more reason to have you come by finally.”
“I’m scared I’ll break something.”
Wonpil shook his head and smiled with assurance. “You will be fine and cause no harm. I mean, you’ve already done two things today and we’ve survived through them.”
Despite his encouragement, you didn’t look convinced, clinging onto Wonpil’s side when he twisted the handle to the studio. Thankfully, due to the entire afternoon yesterday he had spent decorating, your nerves eased when you saw the balloons and banner in front of you. Eyes now welling with tears, you gave Wonpil a watery smile and he led you inside, right over to the couch.
“Happy anniversary Wonpil and Y/N!” Sungjin exclaimed and Jae let off a party popper.
“Welcome to our humble abode,” Dowoon mentioned and then Brian slung his bass guitar over his head.
“You ready to play, Pil?”
Nodding as he shifted across to his keyboard and turned it on, they agreed to play a couple of songs you already knew first. It was a great experience. You sat and clapped, loosening off from all your previous tension and Wonpil felt bolder with his triumph. It had actually happened. You had come to a Day6 practice and nothing had gone wrong. He hadn’t even forgotten his lyrics once and when they played the song he had created for you, it was the most magical moment he had felt within this room. Everything worked in harmony, the music filling the space was some of the best he had ever had a part in making.
And once the room fell silent after the last guitar strum, you were clapping proudly, wiping away your tears momentarily before clapping again. That’s when it all started to go wrong.
“Oh, you don’t have to stand, Y/N!” Wonpil mentioned as you got up from the couch, his mind flashing with panic. Before he could understand anything else, you had already sat down and he was… falling too?
He watched as the keyboard stand he had knocked in his hurry lost its balance and fell into one of the amplifiers in the room. He also tripped over a cord in the process and ripped that out, causing a screech of static to bounce off the walls. Brian and Sungjin covered their ears and Jae got a fright, backing into another amp and knocked it over and popped several balloons in concession. It was like a domino effect and even Dowoon’s station was affected in some way before the entire room fell dead silent.
No one moved for a good minute or two. And then there was laughter.
The five distraught men looked in your direction as you now helplessly held your stomach, waving a free hand in their direction as if in attempt to dismiss your amusement. You sucked in a deep breath to try and settle your laughter but it rolled through you some more.
“I’m sorry!” you wheezed, trying to catch your breath. “It’s just this is exactly… what I have imagined so many times… if I was to ever come here… and for once it wasn’t me who caused the chaos!”
Sungjin couldn’t help but chuckle, though his was darker and pointedly aimed at Wonpil still sprawled on the floor. “You’re right. It wasn’t your fault at all, Y/N.”
“I have to admit when we prepared for tonight this wasn’t what I was expecting,” Jae announced and Brian moved to help Wonpil up.
“It looks like all your fears about Y/N and this place only ended up coming true by your hand instead.”
He was mortified, of course. Head lowered as he tried to calm down from the various emotions coursing throughout, Wonpil eventually cast his focus around the room. It was in a right state but for the most part, everything looked like it wasn’t broken.
And then he glanced in your direction, sighing heavily. More bravely than he expected, given the turn of events, you stepped over to his side and gave him a warm hug. “I loved everything about today.”
“I messed up just now.”
You tried to stifle another laugh. “Is it bad that I’m kind of relieved? After all this time, it’s always me causing calamity everywhere I go. We’ve been together for so long and it’s the first time I’ve been on the opposite side of things.”
“I’m glad it made you laugh.”
“Will everything be okay?” you asked of the other members as Brian checked over the amplifier behind Wonpil’s station.
“It should be. And if I remember correctly, you two have a dinner reservation to make.”
Wonpil sighed. “Maybe I should-”
“No,” you said firmly, taking his hand in yours. “Whatever else happens tonight is meant to occur. It’s our anniversary. Let’s shake up the town!”
“Not too much!” Jae pleaded as Wonpil’s smile slowly grew.
So maybe you were a little dangerous to be around, given how accidents followed you wherever you went. And now Wonpil was certain he couldn’t save you from them all. In fact, he could cause them himself too. Yet, your hand was in his and as you both fare-welled his band members, he realised that this was okay. You’d no doubt have many more accidents in the future to navigate together.
And a whole lot more to laugh about in the future whenever you thought over the crazy memories you made together.

Band Sessions Masterlist
Tumblr media
Pairing: Day6 x reader
Genre: band au / university au / romance / fluff
The band’s studio was home to many things. Instruments and assorted sound gear, not to mention a multitude of cords running all around the place, connecting the power of Day6 to each other. But it wasn’t just music that rocked these walls. Friendships and love confessions found their way into the mix, sounding around the room and creating the memories of Day6′s youth.

PWYL’s Year In Review
2020 has been quite the year, huh. Let’s look at what you’ve enjoyed, I’ve enjoyed and all that’s in between.

I would have thought there would be some Monsta X in amongst this though, since I wrote for them a lot this year. However, I expected Got7 stories to dominate this list.

Highlights of 2020
Finally finishing my You x Idol drabble game.
Writing some series ideas that I really thought were going to be hard (Forsaken, To Be Continued, 10 Dates) and being satisfied with how they turned out
Doing some groups series, like Band Sessions and MonX Hospital, and creating an entire world.
Collaborations with my writer friends. I honestly love writing with my friends!
Writing Sungjin as a cop in To Be Continued. He wasn’t even in the original draft notes for the series but became someone so deeply important to the storyline! I feel like each year, Sungjin’s characters keep coming out on top (last year, it was his story Existence in the Spiritual Connection world that came for my soul)
Destined hitting 2k notes and still being the most popular story and series on my blog.

Things I wish had gone differently / things I wasn’t happy about
The gaps in my writing schedule - whilst I needed to take those moments, looking back now, I wish I could have remained more consistent.
The lack of variety - in some areas, I did improve but looking back on everything, it was pretty obvious I stuck to like three groups for most of the year. Of course, this isn’t entirely bad as I discovered deeper connections with some of these characters, but it did mean I didn’t get as much variety as I hoped to.
The endless hate for Forsaken and Bloodstone - two stories that I was really excited to share. I know I need to let it go, but I really don’t get the big fuss around it all.
Personal pressure - I was so busy trying to improve as a writer over and over that at times I forgot to enjoy the journey as I travelled along it.
Frightful October - that whole thing was so unfortunate and it still breaks me to think of all the discarded plans @this-song-thats-only-for-you and I had, only to not give the segment it’s final hurrah as we hoped to. This was the last year we wanted to do it as we were going to try something new for 2021, so it’s really bittersweet knowing how much of a fail October was.

2021 Goals
To complete at least ten series
To either write the ideas that have been sitting in my ideas file for sometime, or to let them go... holding onto them for a rainy day so to speak isn’t going to work
Always aiming for variety but also accepting that there are some groups I just naturally have an affinity towards and that’s okay
To try and write more details into my worlds. This way, I’ll be adding more depth and word count - which isn’t a bad thing to be practicing if I wish to attempt writing longer pieces for eventual novel preparation
To collab with some other people than I usually do. I’m not very brave at approaching others but I want to give it a try! (please if you want to collab with me, feel free to message me haha)
I dunno why but it makes most sense to me to put Mayday6 in May, so it’s kind of a goal to make that happen then lol
Figure if I’m going to open another prompt list up for requests or offer sporadic requests - either way, bring in some fresh ideas from my followers at some point
To be uncaring about genres I choose. If I want to write four royal au stories in a row, then so be it (I have a lot of royal and regency au ideas, someone please make me stop dreaming about being a princess or wearing pretty dresses lmfao)
Whilst scheduling to me is important, not pressuring myself to stick to the same format of writing each week/month. I’m not burned out, but I am bored of the same thing time and time again.
Admittedly, this one is one I can’t not ask of myself - make a pile of writing so I’m ahead again. I like the feeling of having stories to fall back on.. but also allowing newer stories to jump the queue if I’m most excited for them.

Phew! What a year I’ve had! There’s been some amazing moments not captured in this list, and amazing people who I’m forever grateful for. Thank you for supporting me!
May 2021 bring some really awesome personal writer growth and fun for this writing blog!!
