FATHOM - a submarine crew looking for something big. - main genres: horror, fantasy - underdeveloped but i love them - main characters: skalder (he/him), angler (he/him), grenadier (they/them), zion (she/her) and petoskey (she/her)

REWRITTEN - a rewrite of minecraft diaries, a minecraft roleplay from 2015.  - main genres: fantasy, adventure, elements of horror - this one u can actually read!! u dont need to know anything abt mcd to read this bc its completely rewritten - main characters: vylad ro’meave (he/they) and seraphaura (she/her)

THE DEATHCAP - a podcast about the paranormal in the creator’s hometown, whitewood. when they start searching for content, they dont like what stares back. - main genres: horror - planning to put this in a podcast medium  - main characters: arden tilsdale (they/them) and vincent “vinnie” baines (he/him)

Transcription

For me, transcription is a very hard practice to do. The letters all lock together, staring at the computer screen makes every line blur together, and some of the letters are completely recognizable. However, I did do my best to discern which letters were which and what the different punctuation indicated. For abbreviations, I referred to Introduction to Manuscript Studies notes on abbreviation. I also consulted the textbook to look at the different types of bookhands to gain some familiarity with the shape of the letters. It was still quite a struggle and left me with a bit of a headache. Nonetheless, for my transcription, I (attempted) to transcribe the commentary on f. 11v of Apocalypse in Latin with commentary by Berengaudus. (I will admit I am not totally confident with the results.)

Despite the trouble I had with the transcription, I enjoyed making a modern interpretation of Apocalypse in Latin. I thought using a Tumblr blog would be the best platform to create it on because it is very versatile. It allows for adding long passages of text, photos, links, sound clips, and video. A lot of bloggers explore very niche interests and has users that display a wide range of interests. This is another one of the main reasons I enjoyed using the Tumbr platform for my modern interpretation of Apocalypse in Latin. There are other blogs on the platform that relate to manuscript and medieval studies. This allowed me to retweet other posts that were related to my blog. I was able to find images from other apocalypse manuscripts and information on the gothic script.

The app also allows users a lot of freedom to personalize their blog space. For this project, I choose to use this pale yellow-brown background color because it reminded me of the color of parchment paper, and I used black for the color of the text. For the profile picture, I put a picture of a medieval scribe, and the background image is a study room filled with manuscripts.

For my discussion units, I choose aspects of my manuscript that were the most interesting the annotations and marginalia, genre, miniatures, content, ownership, spacing, handwriting and initials, and the damages. The blog explores the different question and mysteries that surround Apocalypse in Latin with commentary by Berengaudus. I tried to make the blog conversational and interesting, and I played a persona of a student who studies medieval manuscripts. I also included photos of the different aspects of the manuscript and the folios I discussed to provide visuals for anyone who would happen across the blog and not understand what the blog was referencing. In the comments, I provided links to different resources I used, and I added hashtags to the posts that corresponded to the manuscript and the different discussion units. I feel like this adds another layer to the modern interpretation and provides more opportunity to explore the character the manuscript has.
