This nameless pain,Why doesn’t it stop?
What has finished,Why doesn’t it pass?
It wasn’t just a face in All this world
Why doesn’t the one far from my heart, get out of my heart?

Sound creates motion
By Syd
It is able to move, transform, reverberate and harmonize. When you experience something vibrating sound, whether it be a speaker, your cat purring or even your own voice, you can see or feel what that vibration is doing.
From a speaker, we can feel the bass of a favorite song resonating through the air to our ears giving cause for our bodies to react or dance. Your cat purring next to you may help induce feelings of peace and calm. Sometimes, if you're petting the cat, you can feel the vibration of the purring. If you pay close attention, you can feel the vibration of your voice as you talk and can also feel along the 7 chakra system when you hit a certain note, a certain chakra resonates.
Not only does sound create motion, but it has been scientifically proven to create form. This is shown to us in the study of Cymatics. In short, sand is sprinkled on a plate, membrane or diaphragm attached to a sound amplifying device like a speaker or even an acoustic transformer like a paper cone. Once sound is produced, a beautiful mandala-like image appears.
This is what I imagine happens to our bodies when we tone with shruti or any drone instrument or even just hum to ourselves: that our cells resonate with the sound and vibration and therefore produce a more balanced environment, possibly preventing disease and most definitely producing a feeling of well-being after.
I have always sung to myself. Privately in the bath/shower, in the grocery store along with a guilty pleasure or in the car at the top of my lungs to my favorite jam at the moment. Singing has always made me feel good after having done it. I came across the musical scale singing lessons of Tahir Qawwal who sings with the harmonium and then Anastasia introduced me to the shruti box which is basically a harmonium with valves instead of keys. Because the shruti box has 7 notes corresponding to the chakra system mentioned earlier, it great to sing along with the notes and tone my chakra system. It always makes me feel clearer mentally and physically.
I invite you to try it on your own. Or, if you live in the Portland area, come visit with us during one of the Shadow Circle sessions https://www.facebook.com/groups/681390063972035/

headcanon: rashid qamar santagar, lord of spottswood, first introduced lord armaan yronwood to a musical form of worship years ago upon hearing the lyrics of the guard. he found it strangely soothing following the yronwood massacre upon his eighteenth nameday. the style of worship consists mostly of travelling wanderers with harmoniums and tablas, a type of drum, who serenade the gods among a sat crowd who tend to sing and clap along. you can often find armaan sat quietly in the back.
