As I was painting this, I was reminded of @qinniart. She was a 4x survivor of open heart surgery and sadly died right before Covid. Her art was beautiful and often had glowing yellow goldfish or stars in it. She inspired many artists with her work including this piece here. I hope her friends and family are doing well.
I will have this 5 X 7” piece up for sale at the beginning of June. Follow along for updates and more pieces of my series for MerMay.
¿Cómo me contagié?
Hi, C! Your drawings look so dynamic and pleasant to the eyes. One thing that always catches my attention is the way you draw hands, any tips on how to draw them or how you go about it?
I've actually received a few similar questions too before and I always got a hard time finding an easy way to simplify the explanation because to me drawing hand is like drawing a whole mini body that's attached to the main body 😭 It has its own angles, motions, foreshortenings, anatomy, details, etc, and I think a quick tutorial won't cover all of those unless the question is more specific :') And if you ask me how I go about drawing hand I just draw it the same way I draw bodies (making messy sketches first to determine the overall shape of the hand and then drawing the details later)
But I found this tutorial made by @/Qinniart, reposted via EtheringtonBrothers and I think it has pretty much all you need to know about drawing hands!
I hope it helps Anon and I'm so sorry I can't give you more than this 😭 As much as I love drawing hands it's the only thing that's hard to explain for me. The easiest way to draw a perfect hand is by following a reference, and if the pose is more specific you can use your own hand as a reference!
I just got nostalgic over my old drawings and started remembering all the artists that brought me on the path of art! And one of them was Qinniart who passed away in February 2020. So I looked her up on Google and saw many posts like this
Which... yeah, she might have been the creator of that meme, but she was also the creator of dreams
☕ Do you do warmup sketches before drawing? (Bonus: do you have any to share?)
🐻 Your go-to things to draw when you need comfort?
From this meme
When did you start drawing? Do you remember?
I did actually! The earliest stage I remember leading my artistic path is when I'm 3 years old, which is means, it's around 21 years ago ^^ that time I remember my brother ask me if I want to color his drawing and gave me a crayon. All my siblings WEIRDLY have their artsy phase during coming of age days, but for some reason, only me and my sis who continued drawing and painting until now :D
If I can make a timeline of my skill development stages;
3 y.o - first drawing activity exposure
6 - 8 y.o - copying the characters from anime (watched Tokyo Mew Mew back then) + first exposure of One Piece OwO
11 - 13 y.o - starts taking art a bit seriously after I have access to internet + find the late Qinniart's deviantart page that contains all the art tips + tutorials in it and self-learning from there
18 y.o - starts going to learn basics and fundamental after focusing too much on 'just making good art'
I feel like a newborn baby everyday when it comes to drawing and making art. There's just...always new things to learn :')
((I'm having fun over-answering not really sorry))
Do you do warmup sketches before drawing? (Bonus: do you have any to share?)
Ooo warmup sketch is a bit foreign concept to me as I more often just create thumbnails and persistently wish those thumbnails have a finished products. It's a toxic traits I yet to overcome as it limits my creativity.
Maybe one day I'll confidently share warmup sketches that I made ^^
Your go-to things to draw when you need comfort?
When I need comfort, instead of drawing, I actually go find someone to talk to, doing house chores, or basically doing anything but drawing itself LMAO
Believe it or not, I can't really find drawing comforting these days. Not that I hate it either, or even hate seeing my own art styles, just it's not something I'm able to escape to again like I used to! I'm still working on relationship between me and art at this age as well :D just wish me luck, thanks~!
