Aaliyah as Akasha
↳ in Queen of the Damned (2002)
You thought it was all you? The ego of a king as well. Yes! I know you, Lestat. I know you crave to have the world at your feet. So I've come to give it to you.

King of Corium by C. Hallmark and J.L. Beck
🖤 TRIGGER WARNINGS NEEDED 🖤
I really liked this book. The authors are good writers, they made it fast-paced and I love the twist at the end. I was fully invested and kept reading and was sad it ended. I will check out the next book for sure!
🖤
BLURB:
She came here for protection, but that’s the last thing she's going to find.
Welcome to Corium University, where the most dangerous criminals in the world send their offspring. Assassins, mafia leaders, arms dealers and art thieves.
You name it, this college houses them.
Nothing can touch us here.
The only rule: No one can die.
I knew she would be here.
Aspen was my enemy in every shape of the word. A liar, a thief. I wanted revenge for my family, revenge against her father.
I knew the rules. Knew I couldn’t kill her, but I could hurt her. I could make her wish she never came to Corium. She wasn’t made for this place.
If she thought the university was the only nightmare she would have to face, she was wrong.
I was the king, and this was my kingdom.
🖤
I wish they had included a more detailed trigger warning though. I mean we get that it was non-con, but I think something on the first page would have been good! That’s my only real concern with this, but that could also have been an issue only based on my edition (I was approved as a reviewer by booksirens). Of course book sirens did tell me it was non-con, but I genuinely didn’t expect the extent of it!
QOTD: What do you think is an appropriate trigger warning? Half the time I read one and I think the book didn’t need it, and then now it just struck me how necessary one is. I also do feel like the unnecessary uses of a warning (or maybe this is just what I’ve seen) made me slightly complacent about this.
I’m still reading up on this because this is new to me. I’d love to hear your opinions on this and be directed to any sources of information. If you disagree with me, that’s fine, but I would prefer your take as opposed to an attack!
