if you’re quadrimanual* in my anthro-bug-allowing universe (that i still need a name for), your choice of “limb set” largely depends on your situation.

so imagine you have four arms, because that’s what i’m talking about. your top set is usually hanging on the “outside”, over the top of the lower set.
so they’re usually the first to react. they’re like being right-handed - they’re the ones spiders raise when they’re showing off or looking for purchase,

they’re the limbs raised first when a bug/tinycritter† is looking to find someone, or to approach. some bugs/spiders use a different set of limbs for signalling so i have some thinking to do but for the most part, yea
†(nominatives used liberally, because i’m trying to build a furry universe that includes all manners of crawlies. yes, i know spiders aren’t bugs. but i’m building something that umbrellas the tinier species. help me work this out!)

so, anthro:
if you default to using this higher set to manipulate tools and gesture socially, you’re right handed. if you default to using the second/lower set to do that stuff, you’re basically a southpaw!
*still checking to see if i can use that term without it already being a scientific thing! i know that there’s bibrachial, bimanual, and others. and “quadridexterous” seems to refer to the gait of horses. if you’re smart and know/can come up with a better term for this, get in touch!
anyway feel free to discuss insect anthro stuff with me, they’re way overlooked and i’m all for figuring stuff out
