That thing going around, about your quarantine name being the last thing you ate, plus your high school mascot? I’m a Cheese Dragon.
Which sounds like something Wisconsinites make at a state fair, but also something I’m kind of into.

This… ‘social distancing stuff’? Oh… okay. I see. You think this has nothing to do with you. You go to your Costco in a simple face mask and you select out, oh I don’t know, that 36 pack of White Claw, for instance, because you’re trying to tell the world that you aren’t too worried about your health or the health of those around you. But what you don’t know is that your trip is not just unnecessary, it’s not frivolous, it’s not idiotic, it’s actually dangerous. You’re also blindly unaware of the fact that in 2003, the WHO warned about potential consequences of easily-transmittable upper respiratory viruses and our apparent inability to combat them on a large scale. And then I think it was the US Government, wasn’t it, who failed to follow up on orders of portable ventilators? I think we need a ventilator here. And then coronavirus quickly showed up in the hospitals of eight different countries. Then it filtered down through cruise ships and then trickled down onto some tragic “spring breaker” who you, no doubt, will bump into on your ill-advised shopping trip. However, that social distancing order represents millions of dollars and countless hours of epidemiological research and so it’s sort of comical how you think that you’ve made a choice that exempts you from the healthcare industry when, in fact, you’re wearing the face mask that was selected for you by the people in this room. From a pile of “stuff.”

thank you babe you know I crave these moments of enrichment... new ask memes and quizzes are like the equivalent of packing a pumpkin full of ground meat and rolling it around my enclosure
8: What’s a goal you hope to achieve while being quarantined?
I hope to make some serious progress on a few of my long-term projects! I have several extensive AUs I’m finally organising and seriously working on, with finishing them actually looking realistic. I also have a reading goal of 70 books for this year, though I’m thinking of putting it up to 100 seems I’m smashing it (currently at 43). I’m also dedicating a lot more time to language-learning and my Russian is actually really starting to come along. like, I’m saying sentences now. having short conversations in my head. all of it is fit for polite society, too!
17: How long do you think this quarantine will last?
I have no clue. hmm. official lockdown for us has been since the... [checks journal] March 23, meaning it’s already been-- like a month?? what the fuck. anyway, I think it’ll last around 2 more months, perhaps. I think that’s what should be done, anyway -- remain in full lockdown until the peak has passed, and then gradually reduce restrictions carefully over the next few months. however, I think that the government is going to fuck up during this time period and in the autumn we’ll see a resurgence. I really don’t think things will be back to normal for at least a year.
27: What do you like most about the quarantine?
I like how relaxed I am. that seems strange to say because the situation is so stressful, but I’m lucky that I have a lot of hobbies that allow me to ignore the real world. with no obligations or looming appointments or “huh it’s been a week I should probably go out” to consider, I realise just how much time to do things I have in a day. I find myself no longer rushing things; I take my time and I feel like overall my productivity and ability to retain information has improved. don’t get me wrong, I still miss going out when I get the urge, but I don’t get the urge often. far more common is the realisation that there’s something I should probably be doing that involves going out, but I don’t have to worry about that right now.
28: What are you finding most challenging about the quarantine?
about the quarantine itself, rather than just the situation surrounding it? like on a personal level, hm. the paranoia is very unpleasant. every time I get something in the mail or have to go to the store because it’s unavoidable, I don’t like the days and days of worrying at every twinge. sometimes I find myself panicking because I have the windows open and the neighbour just walked past, and like. it’s not like I can just say “stop being so anxious”, because this is a very real pandemic and it’s actually that dire.
45: Are you stressed?
it comes and goes. most of the time I find I’m dealing with it very well, and there are whole periods of the day where I don’t think about it. but every time I see something on the news, or I think about it in any detail, it’s easy to become stressed. it’s impossible to ignore the fact that every time I go out, I’m risking my life. it’s impossible to ignore the fact that every time I go out, I could catch something that might kill me or anyone who comes into contact with me. again, it’s not something I can write off as being paranoia or exaggeration. it’s literally that dire, and it’s the most surreal situation. most of the time I have to laugh, because it is so unreal, but other times I do find myself stressing about it. it really is unbelievable sometimes.
46: Tell me something positive.
in keeping with the theme: a group of neighbours in Italy wanted to share a toast together but obviously couldn’t be in the same house or even stand close enough to one another to toast, so they all got onto their balconies and improvised.
