Ooh new victims!
I made some online escape games during lockdown. I think they might be the best thing I’ve ever made and they’re all free to play so please check them out if you like that sort of thing!
Would love to have nerdy chat about puzzle-making too :)
Acorn Cottage: Collaborative 2-player banana-themed game.
Escape From Catland: Help Dr Woofred Barker save us from being turned into cats! A longer game aimed at more experienced players.
NooZoo Park: This one is more of a silly/creepy self-hosted party game. For the designated gamesmaster only… the password to the NooZoo Park client entrance is BELIEVABLE (all caps).
Enjoy!

Y'all know what's solarpunk? Or at least sustainable? A good sourdough starter. It requires flour, quite a bit of it to get started, but it's healthier for you, and you can use the discard after the initial start phase for all kinds of tasty things meaning no waste and less store bought pancakes, crackers, brownies, breads, etc.
Here's how you make a starter (disclaimer this is how i made it, I've noticed a lot of sourdough purists insisting u need to weigh everything every time you feed and you need a scale for all your recipes, etc i have done none of that and i don't have the energy for all that either)
You need:
Flour, i use unbleached but that's because i had a bag lying around i used for vegan cookies as a gift and i heard it works for starters, Harold (my starter) seems to like it so why change, but I've heard of people using literally any kind of flour
Water, enough to mix into a thick pancake batter consistency
If you feel weird wasting flour you can try the quarantiny starter idea from king Arthur's flour which uses only a tablespoon of flour and some water until it's active and then you bulk it up when you want to bake with it.
You're going to want to add your flour and water and mix until it's a thick pancake batter consistency, i started with a half cup of flour but i left on vacation and my grandma accidentally bulked it up so now it's up to like a cup.
Every 24 hours (not exact measurement and some people swear by feeding it every 12, i do 24 but it varies by person and starter) you are going to want to toss half (in the garbage at this stage) and mix in about the same amount of flour as the mixture you just tossed (ex. You estimate you tossed half cup of starter, add half cup of flour to remainder in jar) add enough water til you reach consistency. I've gotten told this doesn't work but my starter is happy and thriving so I'm sticking with it.
Once your starter is active and consistently doubling within 8 hours after feeding (you will notice it does this in the first few days, that's Bad Yeast do not use. Your starter will hit a slump and then come back to rising, that's good yeast. I recommend putting a rubber band or hair tie where it is after u feed so u can monitor rise easier) experts recommend waiting ten days from initial starter start date to use it, i waited three weeks. Toss all starter at feeding during this time.
ONCE UR STARTER IS ACTIVE then u can save all the stuff u were tossing in a jar in the fridge (i use an old spaghetti sauce jar, and my starter is also in a big olive jar lmao) and use it in recipes that doesn't require yeast, this is sourdough discard and you can find a ton of recipes online for it.
If you want to use it to bake bread, you will use it when it's at its peak rise area, usually double what it was when you feed it. This is the yeast being all active and happy which will rise your bread. I recommend this recipe for beginners:
I reduced the salt to 1 tsp and added probably around a cup and a half of whole wheat flour, i had it lying around and why not. Changes will depend on your elevation and what works for you, it's not a science which is why no recipe will work for literally everybody. Almost everybody's first sourdough bread will fail one way or another but 98% of the time it's still edible and you learn!!!
Feel free to ask questions :)
Edit: forgot to mention that you should keep your jar covered, but don't screw the lid on, i just use the flat part of a canning lid placed on top

🌈is there a fic that you worked *really fucking hard on* that no one would ever know? maybe a scene/theme you struggled with?
Hey honey, ty! 😍😚😚😚😚😚😚😚😚😚
So to the first part: yes, I've worked really hard on a lot of fics, and there's defffffinitely been various things I've struggled with, but for the second part I'm not so sure cos I feel like I'm often here complaining about them 😅🤣
But here are some which jump to mind!
the sex scene in the genie au -- this was supposed to be a short t rated fic which I was gonna wrap up fast then move back to whatever else I was working on at the time but it ballooned 😅
anything angsty (even if there's not soooo much angst on the page & it's more about the pov character's ~canon/adjacent headspace) which I wrote in quarantini, it was a weird time to put oneself into such a headspace purposefully
When I've tried to get a sense of more minor characters & their pov, espec bc the source material often treated them as plot enablers so it's (fun!) work to try to create coherent characterisation to make sense of it all. Eg Turner for found my thrill (Turner pov), Dean (and beth/dean's relationship in early s3) for the rio-Dean bodyswap fic, rhea (and her relationships with both Beth & rio) for the fic I'm working on atm (plus a bit of mick, and a little nick too), Dean again (particularly in s1 but throughout) for the cr*ck fic I'm dreamily thinking abt... A lot of rewatching etc
The sneaky doubled pov in around here we say birds not bitches -- this is a silly throwaway cr*ck fic, but it's also something I worked really hard on! It's designed to reward rereading I hope, and it was the first time I wrote fic ~from an original character's pov, and I created full back stories for both original characters AND made myself scrape lots of that detail I wrote in for myself off the page
Anything which started as a one shot but ballooned bc it was planned as a one shot so it was hard work to make extensions work anything close to seamlessly. I do like to plan, but I also love the freedom of improvising along the way and it's so rewarding (bc difficult!) to bend something this way

Why Don’t Millennials Have Hobbies?
I sought the help of an algorithm to figure out how to spend my free time. It made me question my generation’s relationship with leisure
I started by aggressively completing an adult colouring book while everyone around me made body-shaped candles. Photos of sourdough baking and people concocting at-home “quarantinis” cluttered my timeline. While these activities captured the zeitgeist of the pandemic—especially in those early months—I allowed myself to believe that in the midst of those hours between solving puzzles and baking bread, my hobby would miraculously turn up. At the peak of my crafting phase, I painted my bedroom walls purely out of boredom. Ever since that accomplishment, I have been possessed by a certain kind of hubris and invincibility. What handy task will I do next?

Porthole aviary
Tumblr media
Sip this one slowly, and contemplate the mysteries of the universe while you do! Among the Aviary Portholes I've tried so far, this is the one l'd most like to make again due to the complexity of its flavor. The other elements add great floral and fruit elements, and the teas give you smokiness and more peach flavor. I actually wished I had put the chili at the bottom of the porthole instead of near the top, so that I got that spice element through the second half of the drink. For the porthole, obviously the Fresno chili had the most notable impact you definitely get a tingle of heat after a few sips. I found that the oat whiskey and pistachio liqueur both gave the cocktail base a thicker, heavier mouthfeel that I found really nice, and the verjus and simple syrup countered with acidity and sweetness, respectively. This was a case where I found the cocktail base to be really impressive on its own merits, and the porthole ingredients just added to the fun! I didn't have access to Dumante Pistachio Liqueur, so l made my own infusion with vodka, dry vermouth, honey, vanilla bean and lots of chopped pistachios. Normally when I do a porthole, I sample some the original cocktail base before it goes in the porthole. In the porthole: pistachio kernels / Fresno chili / peach slices / basil / lemon peel / lapsong souchong tea / peach tea / saffron threads #imbibe #mixologyguide #homebarawards #garnishgame #mixologist #drinkpretty #artofdrinks #liqpic #homebartender #cocktailoftheday #mixoloegyguide #drinkup #myfavoritecocktail #quarantini #capellilavita #savourlavita #savourwithalexandru #craftedmixology of Stone (Porthole) from The Aviary Cocktail BookĪngel’s Envy bourbon / verjus blanc / High West Silver Western Oat Whiskey / Dow’s Fine White Port / pistachio liqueur / simple syrup #drinkstagram #cocktails #bartender #mixology #cocktailart #cocktailtime #cocktailporn #cocktailsofinstagram #puiualexandru #craftcocktails With a bit of patience, it helps you create some sort of paintings behind the glass I dreamt about it for quite some time, and I’m happy I took the leap of faith with regard to the purchase. After an insanely successful Kickstarter campaign, the same product was made for normal users. The Porthole is a fascinating gadget designed by for many years back. Try to seal the porthole as good as you can, add the cocktail, let it infuse for 15 minutes up to 30, serve over ice #cocktails #cocktail #cocktailexperience #cocktailrecipes #cocktailrecipe #cocktailsthatrock #cocktailparty #cocktailoftheday #cocktailgram #cocktailsofinstagram #cocktailbar #portholeinfuser #cocktailphotography #porthole #homebar #homecocktails #homedrinking #mixologybar #mixologists #mixologia #mixologist #mixology #mixeddrinks #mixeddrink #mixologyrecipes #alcohol #drinkrecipes #drinkstagram #drinks #drinkrecipeġ.5oz Calvados Boulard VSOP Domaine de Canton Ginger Liqueur Napoelon Mandarine Cognac XO Royal Prince Hubert de Polignac French Vermouth Blanc La Quintinye Elderflower Syrup Pivnita Bunicii Water Measure 3.5 oz and shake with ice, strained into chilled coupe. 75 oz Honey Syrup (2 pts honey, 1 pt H2O)įor this batch, I infused thyme sprigs overnight. You know how I know? Because it’s Wednesday. First created for, I saw these at in ATL with sliced lemons infusing the drink.įor me, a Transparent drink+Lemon=Bee’s Knees, but it’s a rate so I added thyme. I don’t use these porthole infuser/decanters often enough but they are a beautiful way to display and serve a batched drink. When I know it’s coming, it’s nice to prep drinks and have good ice on hand to serve.

Chaterine quarantino
Tumblr media
This is perfect since the stores are sold out of everything and in epic chaos currently. You luckily only need a few ingredients to make this Quarantini. However, if you aren’t into a martini, go ahead and call any drink you’re currently enjoying a Quarantini if you are busy social distancing. Next thing I know, it’s taken the internet by storm and the famous Quarantini was born and now has a huge following on the #Quarantini hashtag on instagram.īelow you will find a killer recipe for a Honey Lemon Martini with optional powdered Vitamin C along the rim or mixed into the cocktail. Then my husband and I joked about adding toilet paper (which is worth more than gold in our current economy) and emergency Vitamin C packs. The initial thought behind a Quarantini was that it’s a martini that you drink alone in your house when under lockdown. Literally any drink you are drinking, you have my permission to call it a Quarantini on principle. Well, first and foremost, it’s a drink you drink in lockdown. We are living in unprecedented times, so we might as well follow the rules, stay safe, wash your hands, share your toilet paper and enjoy a delicious Quarantini while you are at it. And the optional added pack of emergency vitamin c - that can also be used to rim the glass - is just an added bonus! The local honey and lemon boosts your immunity. What are you going to do? How about we make a Quarantini and chill! Send us feedback. You can’t find toilet paper, everyone is stuck in the house from school and work and the whole family just got into a huge fight over your 100th game of monopoly. It happened!
Weeeeeks ago when I migrated to this hellsite (affectionate) I shared the one thing I’ve actually created - the digital escape games I made during lockdown. I amended the starting forms to add Tumblr as an option for where people found the games and waited for the influx of new players.
And I waited.
And waited.
I even pinned the post to the top of my blog so it didn’t get lost. And then unpinned it a couple of days later when it still had zero notes because it just felt a bit sad. I resigned myself to the fact that maybe Tumblr just isn’t that kind of vibe and let my zero-note post slip shamefully down the stack.
But now look! My first ever Tumblrina!
Unfortunately this one is a 2-player game and only one of the characters was initiated so “A” has not actually gotten past the first screen… but still… I’ll take it!
Link added in case any of you beautiful weirdos were curious and/or fancied making my day.

Hi! 16, 19 & 26 for the writing asks, please? Bye! *retreats into shadows of lurkerdom*
Oooh, ty! 🥰
16. What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever used as a bookmark?
🤔 maybe a leaf?
19. Tell me a story about your writing journey. When did you start? Why did you start? Were there bumps along the way? Where are you now and where are you going?
I used to like writing as a kid! And now I still like writing, ha. I guess I started cos... I liked stories? And I wasnt discouraged from doing it? 💭
There were definitely bumps on my route! Or at least periods where it wasn't part of my life for ages. Plus I had no idea what I was doing!!! 🤯 But overall I do really rate ~figuring things out by tinkering? 🤔🤔
I know I got drawn towards writing short (original) stories at some point, and I think they're a really good learning ground!! And while I had written a few fanfics pre gg, I was never (even considering!) publishing them.
Gg (fandom) got me writing again, & even posting!!! 😱 Wild!! Now I feel more confident about writing and improving, and I feel like I'm approaching it with more purpose? Like I'm choosing things/ways to write with the intent of gaining or growing particular skills/areas of writing ✌️
The main place I wanna go is finished with this damn fic I'm working on 😂 and back to some short ones 🙏 but also I think it would be nice to return to original fiction at some point too 💭
26. How do you get into your character’s head? How do you get out? Do you ever regret going in there in the first place?
I guess part of the beauty of writing fanfiction is that you don't have to invent (most of?) your characters' heads, you get those for free 😂🤝
It doesn't feel like climbing into say Beth or Rio's headspace is difficult, I guess bc I spent a lot of time with these characters through re/watching the show, discussing & speculating with others, reading & writing fic etc, so idk that I do much consciously to get into their heads, other than plan out the story initially in a v character-focused way (what would they do next & why & what the fuck would the other one think was going on in response etc etc etc).
with other characters (turner; dean; rhea) I've done them-focused rewatches, really aimed at trying to pull together the disparate bits of characterisation & info to see how they hang together compositely? (I do think acting & writing fanfiction are kinda ~the same etc etc etc).
As to getting out of the headspace... Um falling asleep tends to be a mainstay of my angst writing process? 😂
And do I ever regret going to their headspace... Hmm yes and no! I guess my major issue is I dont really know how to write canon rio or Beth pov which isn't like ~clinically depressed. Take what we learn about rio's backstory in s4 (nick set him up as a child for no real reason) in combo with his frontstory (allying with Beth to get rid of nick bc the person who nearly killed him is apparently more reliable than his close relative) AND the murky sidestory (mick, who IS presented as a Beth mirror, betraying him)... I feel like this is sadder than the show really acknowledged?! 🤯
It fucks me off that the show didn't really give appropriate weight to stuff like this, and so I don't regret going into such headspace bc it's an active choice on my part to try to address it. That said, it can be... Intense! And I found writing angst kinda a headfuck at the height of quarantini for example. I definitely like to balance the stories that I'm writing as a result, so there needs to be some humour-focused ones mixed in with the high angst... But also I don't tend to vibe with stories which are purely emotionally heavy bc I don't think that's realistic, so there will be pretty much always some absurdity mixed in with the sad stuff 🤞🤞🤞
Weird writing asks!
