my favorite part about the Barbie movie is how in the beginning of the movie before Barbieland is exposed to patriarchy you can notice the characters actually speak like how a child would when playing dolls, yet once Barbie goes to real world and is exposed to sexism, harassment, and patriarchy her language shifts to a more adult kind dialect. Ken on the other hand, as well as all the other Kens, speaks the same way throughout the entire film because they aren’t effected by the patriarchy in the same way all the Barbies are. It’s so sad because Barbie almost had to shift her language to accommodate the knowledge she now has about the world, yet Ken is allowed to remain naive to the realities of what he has done. it just perfectly depicts the idea that women aren’t allowed to hold on to our childhood the way that men are.
