Shadow games characters as Taylor Swift albums bc I love both so much.
Enne is totally REPUTATION! Good girl corrupted by the City of Sin. It makes sense, so badass and so her. Love her sm <3
Levi is Midnights for sure. His growing maturity through the series and highlighting how he feels just gives off Midnights.
Jac is Red (Taylor's Version). There's this sadness to it like Jac, he's sad. This album has in my opinion some of the saddest songs. What happens to Jac was sad so yes.
Lola is Folklore. I can't really explain it but many songs here highlight this type of anger, especially "Mad Women" & Lola's anger was mentioned many times in QOV. It makes sense
Harvey is Evermore. Only because of the song "Tolerate it." Need I say anything more?
Grace, Poppy & Narinder get Lover. I feel like Poppy & Narinder give off the MOST lover vibes, but Grace as well because, like she loves romance novels while being badass.
AND so Sophia is Speak Now. I feel like most haunted, it's an ambitious album really. She's just soft but she'd NEVER admit it. But to Jac...(brb. Still crying over them.)
Blurb: Enne Salta was raised as a proper young lady, and no lady would willingly visit New Reynes, the so-called City of Sin...but when her mother goes missing, Enne must leave her finishing school and her reputation behind to follow her mother's trail to the city where no one survives uncorrupted. Frightened and alone, Enne has only one lead: the name Levi Glaisyer. Unfortunately, Levi is not the gentleman she expected; he's a street lord and a conman. Levi is also only one payment away from cleaning up a rapidly-unravelling investment scam, so he doesn't have time to investigate a woman leading a dangerous double life. Enne's offer of compensation, however, could be the solution to all his problems. Their search for clues leads them through glamorous casinos, illicit cabarets, and into the clutches of a ruthless mafia donna. As Enne unearths an impossible secret about her past, Levi's enemies catch up to them, ensnaring him in a vicious execution game where the players always lose. To save him, Enne will need to surrender herself to the city...and she'll need to play.
Good morning to finishing school students who become streetlords, streetlords who fall from grace, self-destructive ring fighters, aspiring journalists with compassion fatigue, drug heiresses with a penchant for arson, mentally ill poachers, murderous romance novel fans, explosion enthusiasts, nightclub owners who need a vacation, thrill-seeking prima ballerinas, overprotective prima ballerinas, whiteboots forcibly adopted by gangs, human lie detectors, vultures who find the truth, and girls who commit crimes in a hideout with thirteen cats <3
Sorry guys I'm thinking abt the guild again. Like if Bryce didn't pit harvey and rebecca against each other from literally day one maybe these stupid fucking business partners wouldn't have contracted terminal infighting disease and perhaps the three of them would have been in posession of the north side like at LEAST 2 years ago. But no we couln't have that because they all have the pettiness of a high school drama club and also the drama department is literally burning down and everything's on fire oh god oh god.
I get why the series focuses on Harvey’s mental health and interpersonal conflicts, but I really wish we could have seen more of the physical health issues he must have (and I’m not even getting into the effects of the shade, which I’ll make a separate post about). I find it very difficult to believe that he wouldn’t have at least some form of asthma after his experiences.
Harvey spent most of his life pretty much isolated on Chain Street, breathing in secondhand smoke for eighteen years straight and living so close to the dens that he and his siblings constantly smelled like the drugs. Then he spent the next four years as a salesman who went to clubs and cabarets every night to poach new employees in an environment where many people were also smoking and doing drugs. Then in Queen of Volts he locks himself in a burning building and spends over five minutes breathing in the heavy smoke until he passes out. He also gets choked and strangled by the omerta several times in this book. Then, also in Queen of Volts, he ends up in another locked, burning building because this is New Reynes after all.
You can’t convince me that Harvey doesn’t have moderate to severe persistent lung issues after all of this, like jfc. I’m so tempted to write something and explore my take on it, but my long list of unfinished WIPs is glaring at me 😭
