Thoughts on the Marvels (spoilers unter the cut)
- enjoyed it, solid 6/10, story could have been a bit stronger but good wrap up of Cpt Marvel story lines
- more flerkins are better than one 😉
- this is one for the lesbians, Carol’s looks absolutely ATE in every scene! She looked gay af, love to see it.
- loved the new suits, especially the darker Capt Marvel one with the larger star
Tumblr media
- Glad they addressed the elephant in the room between Monica and Carol. Seemed relatable that Carol didn’t want to seem like a failure in front of the kid she raised but it felt strange that she wouldn’t have asked others for help to restore Hala sooner
- once again a (deliberate) missed opportunity to explicitly confirm that Maria and Carol were a couple. Heavily implied but yet again Marvel is playing it safe to not get censored in places… disappointing
- I try not to get excited about queer subtext (because I want marvel to actually commit to it and not bait us with implications) but this one was gay af and I actually loved it. Carol is a crocs and tank top wearing, cat loving U-Haul lesbian, complete with lavender prince husband on another planet. And she’s totally hooking up with Valkyrie… or are you telling me these two are not a gay couple:

Since when did you watch 911?? I mean I'm very happy but I didn't think you'd be into it tbh
No that's the thing I didn't think I'd be into it either sgsvsjbdgd that's so not what I usually watch???? BUT. I've always heard good things about it and especially abt the characters. And tbh I can get on board with ANYTHING as long as i care about the characters, and seeing that the show had many seemingly interesting dynamics (my weakness) I did know I might like it even tho it wasn't my usual cup of tea
But that's the other thing, imma be honest i probably wouldn't have given it a chance if it wasn't for canon bi buck because i knew about the buddie situash and i didn't feel like being baited. something like a year ago @disaster-j started watching it too and it got the show on my radar and iirc I told her I would check it out, but I was still waiting for something to convince me 100%. The show was on my radar at all times but I was kinda experiencing it from the sidelines
And then. Bi buck
And so I said WELL WHATEVER LET'S SEE WHAT THE WEEWOO SHOW'S ALL ABT but I was still reluctant because it didn't seem like my kind of show. But one ep in and I was already hooked because 1) I actually love seeing all the fucked up shit the responders have to deal with 2) chimney my beloved 3) buck my son 4) found family all my homies love a found family 5) everyone's hot in these uniforms 6) I love that the show is sooooo hopeful even when there's tragedy 7) christopher is the cutest 8) it's queer af from day 1 9) love all the couples and the themes and storylines 10) etc etc etc etc
TL;DR i started watching it a week ago and yesterday i finished season 2 🫡

What is Queerbaiting?
Tumblr media
I had a good conversation about this with @ejassy the other day and figured I'd just make a post about it in case anyone else wanted to either share their own thoughts too or were just confused over what people mean when they say queerbaiting. Which CAN get confusing, especially when it gets used incorrectly ALOT.
So in short simple terms, for queerbaiting and its similar phrases?
Queer subtext: I normally think of this in 2 ways. The first being unintentionally gay. This was clearly not the intention of the writer ever, but the gay ships were just accidentally too full of chemistry and the ship shipped itself by accident even though the characters aren't "canon" gay (think batman and joker. Or Lord of the rings or Elsa from Frozen. Or like a good portion of misogynistic anime writers who can't write a female character that isn't flat AF lol)
Tumblr media
The second being where it can also be defined as INTENTIONALLY gay. Where instead of it being something that just happened, it was written like this pn purpose and with full intention of being queer and is in its own way, good queer representation, even if the queer relationship isn't ever technically confirmed, or only confirmed "off screen" by the writers. This is subtext and its sometimes left only as subtext because the romance is only a subplot or because of censorship. (Think Legend of Korra or Think Merthur from Merlin bbc.)
Tumblr media
Queercoding: acting queer or leaning into queer themes/subtext but not explicity queer for any number of reasons, including censorship for fictional universes or just being closeted. Basically there is enough subtext available for the audience to read them as queer regardless of if their sexuality is never confirmed either way. (Again, think Elsa. Or Jo March from Little Women, or think Nick Carraway from the Great Gatsby. Think of Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji from The Untamed, the show not the web novel verison lol. Think Xena: Warrior Princess)
Tumblr media
Queerbaiting: obviously leaning into and promoting queer subtext and queer themes to keep gay fans on the hook and invested in your media with zero intentions of follow through. Almost at times even turning it into like a joke or just making it very obvious that the character was never actually queer. This was a term coined by queer theorist academics in the 1990s and didn't actually exist before then. This is not a term that can apply to real people. Real people can't queerbait. With very few exceptions to that "rule." Which I will discuss some of those possible exceptions in a bit. (Think Destial from supernatural, or Johnlock from Sherlock, or think Supercorp, Lena and Kara, from Supergirl. Or think Sam and Bucky from MCU, Bechloe from Pitch Perfect or Sterek from Teen Wolf. If anyone doesnt know why these would fall under a more queerbaiting label and dont already know, please feel free to ask for sure)
Tumblr media
There are some good sources out there that go into much more detail about what queerbaiting is, how it's been misused and more too as well if you have the time to watch them. This video was recommended from @guacamoli-avocadorado here. It is a great intro to the term and how it is used/should be used broken down in an easy to understand way. And it gives a bunch more examples like I shared above, etc.
youtube
And this one is longer but a really good and interesting dialogue about the topic. They take the definition of queerbaiting and expands upon it greatly as well as gives a very through dive down the history of queerness and queer subtext through film and media. This one was recommended by @chikooritajjk
youtube
Now, real people cannot queer bait. It's impossible UNLESS they have CONFIRMED their sexuality as "straight" and will sometimes "play gay," for an audience. And not just a straight actor playing a gay one, but doing something that is intentionally queer but backtracking and being like "well I mean, I'm straight so I didn't mean it." And doing so repeatedly and/or even making light of it or joking about it. Or even just being plain homophobic about it. Unless you are talking about the actions they take to promote their "brand" in an effort to profit off queer fans on purpose, while continuing to make it clear its not "that serious," then you could make an argument that that person is queerbaiting. Which, for clarification, two people of the same sex simply interacting together, even with lots of general affection, cannot be classified as queerbaiting ever. Especially because a person doesn't have to be "out" to act on their queerness. Our queerness is our own. No one gets to demand someone to give answers about their sexuality to confirm queerness or not before the public "decides" to keep trying to bully an answer out of them or not. You don't get to take self expression and someone else's comfort away from them for your own comfort in labels that don't belong to you anyway. The thing is, no one owes anyone any explanations about how they present themselves or what their sexuality is. You can't forcibly out people. "I think you are gay, therefore I'm owed an explanation and if you don't give me one, it means you are just queerbaiting" is WRONG. It's an umbrella media term, not a bullying tactic. This applys to everyone, random people off the street, actors, musicians, authors who write/engage in queer literature, public speakers, influencers, etc...
Tumblr media
There are some of kpop idol groups (or other celebrities in general) that could be classified as queerbaiting. Because they use queerness to build and promote their "brand" while otherwise never doing anything about it (even as an ally) and/or even being lowkey homophobic about it all or just continuing to make sure the audience knows they "arent actually gay." Or they use queerness in a way that fetishizies it, again without actually meaning it in any way. That's a whole seperate issue, and it could in ways be considered queerbaiting. Or it could more likely dig further into the issue of inauthenic queer fetishization used as a shock value for an audience to be used as sexual fantasies for their STRAIGHT audience, rather than to draw in a queer audience who are more looking for the possible authenticity of queerness or allyship in the celebrities/idols they are building these parasocial relationships with. Because again, unless you know what this person's sexuality is, how are you sure they aren't just exploring/or expressing their own queerness and aren't labeling it or are closeted for whatever their reasons may be, including just not being ready to come out yet.
Tumblr media
It is a fine line to walk, and there will probably be times in the "real life" instances above where you will have to use your own critical thinking skills to decide how you feel about things, etc. But for the most part, real people can't really queerbait. But hopefully this helps anyone who was/is confused. There are also a lot more resources out there if you wanted to continue looking into it. This is just what I know about it all myself too, if anyone has anything to add, they are free to do so. 💜

I would just like to say that the duffers know what heteronormativity looks like and doubting what could be possible because of it. we have been explicitly shown that robin AND will—two confirmed gaymosexuals—don’t believe that they themselves will get a happy ending with their love interest because they assume them to be straight. they wrote these characters like this for a reason. in s4 robin and steve are arguing over whether vickie ‘likes boobies’ right? well in this scenario us bylers are robin, wishing so badly that our ship (vickie) will be canon (gay) but doubting it still despite being given all these signs from the duffers (steve) through the writing of the show because of heteronormativity and lack of positive queer rep. well robins doubt was already proven wrong with that flirty af pb&pb sandwich scene which, I might add, a straight character witnessed (steve The Hair harrington) with a very ‘I know what you are’ look on his face. not only did they set us up for robins possible rejection by showing vickie kissing her bf (which goes to show the duffers aren’t afraid to straight bait) but we also got a reliable narrator to confirm the absolute off the charts fruitiness of the situation, subsiding any delusion we may have thought we were experiencing. like robin the duffers wrote wills character so that we would root for him, we all know there’s one thing that he really wants and that is to be with mike. do you really think he will get rejected and not have his happy ending? while all of s4 he’s shown hurting over assumed unrequited love? BECAUSE he’s gay no less??? THEY KNOW EXACTLY WHAT THEYRE DOING!!!

These writers are racist af, George wrote Laena and her daughters with strong personalities and confidence. If you hadn’t read the books you wouldn’t understand why they’re so popular.
Laena’s sapphic relationship was given to a white woman.
Daemon fought for Laena’s hand, in the show she’s “second best” whilst he’s pining for his white niece. He then fucks said niece at her FUNERAL because black women don’t deserve love and respect.
Baela would’ve been an easy fan favourite, she’s the Arya Stark of HotD. Instead she has the personality of a cardboard box, reduced to nothing more than a background character. Her scene with Rhaenys was cut out because the writers don’t think of it to be of any importance.
Will we see Rhaena’s triumph as the last dragon rider until Daenerys Targaryen? She’s HotD’s Sansa, underestimated but comes out winning. Difference is GoT laid the groundwork for Sansa, HotD on the other hand seem to forget Rhaena exists.
Every single decision made in regard to Laena and the Dragon Twins was built on anti black misogynoir.
THANK YOU! Let’s not forget the theory that Rhaenyra, Laena, and Daemon were their own little couple too, but they wanted to age up Rhaenyra and Alicent to queer bait in one episode 🙄. She also loves Rhaena and Baela to pieces. Rhaenys is also supposed to have dark hair, but they wanted to push the “Strong” boys narrative even though that’s not confirmed in Fire and Blood at all. And poor Nettles. The genius who managed to bond with one of the wild dragons, was taken under Daemon’s wing, and was just an overall badass has most likely been overlooked even though she is important to the story. Like stop with the 8-9 episodes, do right by these characters and the story, or just leave it alone. Those are the only options.

❤️ - How did your muse come to realize their romantic and sexual orientations? Was it difficult to accept? Are they proud of who they are?
Miscellaneous Symbol Headcanons
Tumblr media
(Elliot figured it out quickly but not before he irrevocably damaged his understanding of love with unrealistic expectations and few boundaries. He's constantly chagrined by society + his own self hatred but has a decent amount of compromises in place to protect himself. and nolanel is not normal. nolanel will never be normal about anything in his life, least of all sex)
but oh MAN this is a good question and one i think abt all the time. the answers are v detailed and a bit nsfw so it's all going under a cut
Tumblr media
elliot was young when he figured it out. his childhood was lonely and studious--and that was partly his doing. josseloux treated him almost like an adult, allowing him to make his own decisions abt where to go and what to do, and elliot invariably pursued learning over play. he was snobbish, oversensitive, and peculiarly observant and analytical--which hasn't rly changed.
he was obsessed with quixotic male heroes, would find his eye drawn for hours to the ideal male figures in statues, and wanted nothing to do with the coarse or unintelligent (read: not like him) boys around him. josseloux wasn't unaware, and stuffed a few books in his shelves to bait his son. something like edward carpenter's anthology of friendship Absolutely ruined elliot's understanding of what a relationship w another man should be: something full of devout loyalty, intellectual greatness, unerring inspiration, and nothing like what he observed in real life. he was Different and he wanted Better.
women were Better but they didn't do it Right. they had the grace, kindness, and beauty that he wanted--except they were women, and women were inconvenient bc of societal structure/expectations and ☆misogyny☆. he intuited what sex was between the lines of his dad's books and decided it was not for him. then a teenage boy stopped an 8yo eli in the hall, bent to fix elliot’s tie, and spiraled him into understanding.
his imagination became more in depth once he knew what he wanted to see but wasn't seeing it. as he grew older, his queerness became more prominent in contrast w the dominant culture, and he began to resent the way people treated him as a curiosity. it was in his sense of beauty, his voice, the carry of his body, his values, and he knew that he would feel humiliated abt it for the rest of his life. he doubled down on himself and allowed ppl who wanted to dislike him to do so; he would weaponize gossip against them eventually.
he's still self-conscious. self-hatred is part of it, but most of that hatred is towards other parts of himself. at this point, he's thrown himself so far into fretting about his socks  that bigger matters feel smaller. almost every salon, house, lodge, and backroom where queer talk happens has also heard elliot's laugh. his experience w relationships before nol are unexpectedly fleeting and shallow, too: 6 months mightve been the longest because he always knew smth isnt clicking completely and it's all hot & quick sparks before they stop talking.
his first approach to nol was intellectual before anything else, then sexual, and when neither of those made nol open up, he regarded their interactions as platonic until he actually learned what nolanel's suppressed af tells were. then he kissed the dope and entered the 'Oh. So Nolanel Like-Likes Me. He's Also Terrified Of Me. Please God Tell Me I Can Fix This' phase. it got worse before it got better. its a miracle he didnt drop nol then and there but i never claimed elliot was smart.
anyway. nols insanity aside its a huge effort for elliot to have to juggle his big silly personality & professionalism with smth (possibly) undesirable that ppl clock in him the minute he's in view. by n large tho, he likes being gay n celebrates it. he just gets in trouble bc his gay feelings are too big for him to handle.
Tumblr media
nolanel is just. jfc. so practically everything in the world terrifies nol. romance and sex are no different. part of that is just his own brain, and the other half is taught or cultural. he grew up knowing the how and why of sex bc of how crucial it was to the operation of the ranch. simultaneously, the only love he had towards a person was ephemie, so he just assumed one day he'd marry her and figure the rest out. he kissed her when he was 10 and both of them were like. uh yeah No.
his only other exposure to love was at community dances in the lowlands, where he danced and tried to convince himself of feelings but just couldn't sympathize with the couples secreted away and groping at each other. it didnt seem fun or worth breaking rules for. halone would be mad.
moving to the brume when he was 14 woke him up. the culture around sex was more open, which was distressing and confusing and thrilling. then the military compounded the jumble with peer pressure, the live-before-you-die mentality, and ohhhhhhh god oh no no no men everywhere why are men hot too. sex seemed embedded in everything down to their uniforms. perhaps he would learn to live w this. :)
absolutely fucking not. the ppl who ply sex horrify him by reminding him of his own desires (which halone says are bad). the most nol's done is make out w rando ladies but the minute they touch him past that he nopes out. this got even worse when his body was burned. dont look at him dont touch him (please look at him please touch him). he wants to be in love and have sex but any exp fills him w dread to the point it makes him sick. also, war makes him scared and sick. he is now doubly scared and sick. he starts telling himself its a waste and a distraction while knowing its not bc he cant. stop. thinking abt it.
ENTER BRUCEMONT. who loves sniffing out a weakness. he drills those feelings deeper into nols head while loudly contradicting them in his own life. he'll sit there and give explicit details abt the woman he bedded the night before so nol gets blueballed and furious. its hook line and sinker every time. truly embarrassing. brucemont loves his job. also, elliot is a political pest Needs To Go.
so this uber ridiculous religious, occupational, and personal shame cocktail is rly not helpful to nols state of mind. he Literally throws up after elliot kisses him for the first time bc he's so violently scared. his internalized homophobia acts up at the worst times, he's deathly ashamed of loving elliot at all for a while, and it takes forever for him learn that privacy is not secrecy and vice versa. the last thing i wrote is all about this.
honest to god if he just let himself enjoy something instead of analyzing the moral properties of kissing the man he's been pining after for 4 yrs, he'd have a better time of life. nol please go get laid im crying. and then he can't be normal abt that either bc hes i like uhhhh yeahhhhh im not rly interested in taking any of my clothes off the first time
i think if he fell in love w a woman he'd feel a lot more comfortable about it. anyone but elliot (and bruce. i know i joke abt it but GOD its possible its terrifying) would also do him good. nol has a v servile personality that adapts to the needs of the person he likes, but he and eli have such wildly different needs that they have to beat each other's brains like laundry for several years before they're compatible. none of this helps nol view his sexuality as smth hes remotely okay with for a v long time

I honestly feel so betrayed and gaslit after watching vol 2. We were told it’s been “building up” from the beginning. We were told to ship it. We were given so much hope, so much content, so much excitement for byler, only for them to literally stomp on every ounce of hope we ever had for byler. I stayed up 4 hours just for this, just for their “heart to heart” to be feeding into more lore. The Duffer Brothers obviously lied SO many times this season. Every thing they said, the “five deaths” the “address his sexuality” So so so much that we hoped and expected to see in volume 2. I am never trusting a single word the Duffer Brothers ever say again. They don’f give AF about the aftermath and reactions of their beloved fans and viewers. All they cared about was getting a massive audience, and obviously we can see they went to great lengths to get this audience, including queer baiting. As much as I want to believe byler will eventually be canon in season 5, I’m so done, those byler crumbs? Obviously more queer baiting to give us hope, don’t even fall for it, anything Noah says? Don’t listen to him he obviously lied about many things. I still can’t believe this, i’m so disgusted with the DF.

off the bat XO, Kitty has a lot of potential. i saw where they were going with it, they tried so hard to make it like a kdrama, where you think one thing, or miscommunication trope, or the enemies x lovers trope, or the villain is actually a good person: all that aside, it failed in many ways. the miscommunication thing was a lot. it made me not really ship dae and her at all. like AT ALL. throughout this whole struggle for her to get to him, and finally end up with him, it felt like uGh bruh are we deadass?? their breakup was ill timed too, but i loved the ending speech. (i have not finished the last episode because i refuse to watch her board that plane)
i had a hard time shipping dae with her in the first place which i think the writers did intentionally because they wanted the audience to engage with the other possible people: Yuri and Min Ho. and you can see the appeal off the bat. i think the bumping into people trope got way too lost in the sauce, and Yuri letting her into the car just cause was absolutely stupid: to sell a “bad girl” villain, you gotta do better but they kept making you want to like her so it was obvious right off the bat we needed to keep an open mind about her. and then, min ho, he was our straight bait. like off the bat every audience member can say without a doubt that min ho is sexy asf. i can say it. we all can tell. he was obviously the other catch. the run in at the grocery store, the cooking for her, the giving her space thing, that was what sold it.
what this show did was rush things, yes. a lot of the tropes are cliche and a bit run, but what the show did succeed on was make the characters lovable. dae is adorable. his soft voice and endearing smile, and Q being the sweet one who happens to be an athlete and our bby gay, and min ho who is like a cat, where once he warms up to you, he lets you pet him, and yuri being our badass lesbian goddess: all these characters great. showing how some koreaboo went to KISS and the show making fun of that was good, but there were times where she was on screen and it was unbearable, like ugh, poor actress who had to play this :( , but also i loved the soundtrack, like these bitches paid MONEY for blackpink and itzy to pop up.
i feel like they rushed though all and all. but i will say this and it might be unpopular. i’m queer and i loved that kitty was figuring herself out. i needed that. it healed something in me because she realized at 17. i was closeted and pushed away my feelings for a girl being petty or feeling a tummy butterflies thing till like college. so this? was relatable af. yet, i still chose to ship min ho x kitty. why? because netflix set it up that way. you KNOW yuri is head strong. she’s after julianna and like the show kept saying, not everything is on kitty’s timetable. kitty getting rejected is bound to happen. i’m glad she fell for yuri and the connected on such a deep level: that’s a real crush and real feelings, but you see the parallels to peter kavinsky and min ho. the mom thing, the suddenly knows things about you, the “not surface level” deep, the “id rather move on with a koreaboo than face my feelings for my friends ex, and even when they get together, i still avoid my feelings because that’s what i do as a troubled lead man” thing. i ship them, i’m sorry. and i hate myself for it but i do ship it.
—my hypothesis is that something next season is gonna happen between kitty having to choose between Yuri and Min Ho. do i agree with this tho? no. —
i disagree with how netflix set up this ship. they give her bi awakening and already set her up for the straight ship. that’s why i’m not surprised. that’s why i knew to ship min ho and kitty together. netflix may say they are for the ppl but they will give the bare minimum. and this is not to say that this makes kitty less bi, no it doesn’t, and this is not to shame bi babes who are in heteronormative relationships, but it’s a reflection and call out to how netflix shaped this. if next season she doesn’t end up with yuri, you know why.
i’m rambling now. but my main point was that they rushed things. they rushed all these deep moments, they added too many plot twists in the season like a kdrama does (but kdramas actually make it good), and they rushed the way people fell for each other. i wish there was a bigger backstory to julianna and how they fell in love . how dae knew the comfort sock thing, the reason why min ho had divorced parents: how that affected him, and making Q a bit more dimensional. i hate when they include a gay character and only make it about them being gay. you only see him date florian, you don’t really get to know Q outside of his quest for Florian and his relationship with him. and even the talks he had with kitty were revolved around men. like bffr. i loved his character on Love, Victor and the undersold Anthony’s acting abilities in this one :(
overall i needed more from this show and i will finish the remaining minutes soon, but yeah. i think kitty’s bi experience was exceptional and beautiful, but the way that the show is setting up it’s love interests, you can see where this shit is going. i’m hoping kitty ends up with yuri, but at the end of the day i know it’s gonna be min ho, and he was played so well and became such a likeable character that i don’t mind shipping it and that’s when the inner conflict is where it doesn’t change the fact that kitty might be bi or pan, but that netflix acknowledges is and still sets her up in a heteronormative society welcomed relationship instead of the one like Yuri’s pushing the boundaries of South Korea one step at a time with interracial love and lesbianism <3

Misha uses his platform to raise money for his activism primarily.
Stands and Gish both funnel money to good causes. Stands site even says that they recommend donating direct to the charity of your choice to ensure they get 100%.
That said, people want merch, people want to have fun and do good at the same time. Normal merch sites donate 0% or very little. Stands is a minimum 10% plus whatever actor/artist agrees to distribute. Some choose 100%. It provides a model to help people get something from their charity, which is why so many other celebrities participate.
The model helps both artists and actors to help good causes (like queer charities) but also is an income stream in an notoriously unstable career (many aren't super rich celebs).
Misha also donates 100% profits for some initiatives like the cookbook.
He is not perfect but i think he tries very hard to balance his need to earn a living and also do good.
Similarly Jared also tries to contribute a little of Mantra profits, i think about 2%, to charity. Lots of cast members also participate in other fund raising and awareness activities (e.g. bad idea tour). Misha is a driving force behind many of them.
Hate him if you like, but please consider all the aspects.
i will be honest with you i don't know or care how much stands donates. i just find it interesting how you have sooooo much to say about misha being a Good Person Who Donates To Charity but when it comes to jared, you mention only 2% from mantralabs going to charity instead of... you know. akf. or all the work he does for outyouth in austin. you know, the bulk of his campaigning for mental health and queer people. your bias is really clear from the content of your ask.
i don't care how much misha donates to charity. donating to charity doesn't inherently make you a good person just because of that. what i do care about is misha's long-standing habit of lying to his fans to make money, KNOWING stands merch sells more when he does so. he had gay cas merch ready to go the second 15.18 aired. he had bi merch ready to go the second he lied about being bisexual. this man cares more about money than any cause. and all of this isn't even touching his history of making jensen uncomfortable on purpose, twisting facts about jared to make himself look like a victim, all while pretending to be friends with them. this doesn't change anything about him being a creep towards underage fans, being an asshole to people who PAY to see him at autos, all the insensitive tweets he's made just to be Funny On The Internet and then dropped a basic ass apology for when he gets called out. this doesn't change anything about the disgusting af comments he makes about "topping" jensen, or his absolute lack of boundaries with fandom (posting ao3 links? really misha?). it doesn't change anything about how he KNOWS what his fans are like, the toxicity and abusive behavior and suicide baiting that they gleefully indulge in the second someone doesn't agree that destiel is the greatest thing to happen to queer people since stonewall, and yet he doesn't discourage them. y'all love bringing up his charity work and going all "be a misha" and "we're all one big ess pee enn family!" when it benefits you, but won't acknowledge all the disgusting things he's done.
charity work alone doesn't make someone a good person. that man is not a decent human being. it's about time y'all stopped trying to make excuses for him.

i'm not kidding at all when I say that Haylor is what turned me into a gaylor (well, bilor). Had I not had to read through 5000 tumblr posts analyzing and propping up a 3 month long relationship with an 18-year old, I might've never started looking for another explanation that made more sense. And I do feel like I'm not the only one who followed that path.
These days, I'm more skeptical and I can't say I'm 100% committed to the belief that Taylor's queer in any way anymore. But I STILL think Haylor was fake af and all of the songs credited to him are a mix of fiction, baiting, and a few real moments of hurt pride and anger.
valid takes! (tho i have no doubt tay is queer)

Jfc are y’all really this dense or just tryin to be cute. Be straight sure, fine, great, good, no one gives a shit. It’s the queer-baiting that pisses folk off. Like got damn why is it so hard to find anyone normal in this fandom it’s either you ppl with your head so far up his ass or a buncha damn pedos.
I swear to god if anything can ruin this poor man’s career it will be his stupid af fans.
While it might be frustrating to see celebrities whom we assume (key word being “assume”) to be cis and straight adopt queer aesthetics and practices, no public figure owes us any information about their sexuality. In the end, queerbaiting accusations strip public figures of their humanity and complexity and turn them into characters for our consumption.
Please, do tell me how Tim queerbaits in his personal life. Jfc, playing a queer character on film doesn't make him a queer-baiter. It makes him an actor, doing his job. Wearing women's wear on the red carpet, for his job, doesn't make him a queer-baiter when in his real life, he's in normal streetwear like any other random 20-something you would see in your hometown.
Your need or want for him to be gay is your problem and he owes nothing to anyone on how he decides to present himself. Read the article linked above and educate yourself and learn to mange your expectations of what you assume someone's sexuality is. You are owed nothing from him.
And his career is going to be just fine, even with so-called fans like you harping on this ridiculous bs.

Unrequited love is not queer bait :)
Just cause your ship didn’t happen doesn’t mean that its queer bait. Fan about it all you want but cannon and fannon are a ven diagram. Don’t throw a tantrum when its not a complete circle.
Queer characters existing outside of a relationship is not queer bait :) Go figure, queer people CAN be single AND interesting (and still queer!).
If your end game for all queer characters is to shoe horn them into a queer relationship to ‘prove’ they are queer (see also: ‘prove they are queer ‘enough’ for you) then your taste is just boring af sorry not sorry.
Coding characters as queer, using it to gain profit, then sidelining them all plot to spotlight straight leads is queer bait *IF* the show is marketed as being queer off the bat. That’s a bait and switch.
See queer bait example: Marvel unleashes its first openly gay character in Avengers Endgame! Then gives us a single sentence from a nameless side character with less than a minute of screen time. *marketed as gay to draw views, sidelined and let down as its completely insignificant and able to be easily cropped from the plot*
See example of not queer bait: *Stranger Things Season 4 Volume 2 Spoilers*

Will Byers pining for his best friend but knowing it may never be isn’t queer bait. Will is still queer. This is something Will struggles with from the beginning of S4 to the last episode. It’s heartbreaking to love a friend that doesn’t love you back. Your dearest and oldest friend at that. It can make you feel like one wrong step you can lose them forever. In one fell swoop you lose not only the crush your heart aches for but the friend you so desperately want in your corner. Will struggles with direct communication because the thought of losing Mike is literal torture to him. This ENTIRE plot between them is so relatable to the experience of queer existence that the audacity to label it as queer baiting because ‘I didn’t get my ship dammit’ is baffling! This is literally so raw and emotional and accurate to the queer experience. Its not pure trauma porn, its anxiety and angst and deep love that makes these interaction HURT to witness but Will still loves Mike. Even if Mike will never love him back in the same way. Even when it hurts him to feel left out and sidelined in this next stage in their lives Will LOVES Mike and will never stop being his friend. Staying in his corner, filling him with hope and reassurance and helping him with El because dammit Will desperately hopes that Mike will have his back when and if Will ever does come out. And yet he’s hesitant because that fear is always there. They love you til they don’t. And its your best friend. And the stakes are SO high.
Byler not being ‘cannon’ in S4 is not queer bait. Its some of the deepest truth into queer existence I’ve seen on screen and even on the side among many plot threads and heartfelt moments this season it still touches home hard in a way no other character actions have.
And bless Jonathan for seeing his brother and loving him so much and REASSURING him that he will ALWAYS have HIM even if he’s got no one else. Do you have any idea what sort of lifeline that is? It was raw and messy and a massive relief for Will. A massive confidence stepping stone and the feeling that he is not suffering alone.
To reiterate, queer characters existing outside of queer relationships in shows/books is not queer bait. You’re still queer regardless of your relationship status. These stories need to be told too. It’s all in how its marketed and honestly, STS4′s marketing was pretty keyed in on the whole end of the world plot line, not Will’s dating life.
This is my two cents. Agree if you want or not but I just scrolled through way too many queer bait rants on my timeline and had to say something even if just to the great blue void.

While we’re at it I thought vol 2 was pretty lackluster in terms of the SLOW AF villain monologues from Vecna that had me drumming my fingers impatiently to annoying cut scenes from all the characters in crisis.
Russia plot was the same, I wanted to get back to the action.
Don’t even talk to be about Eddie I still hurt...
ALSO I kept seeing this marketed as the last season so when it ended THERE and all these threads were yet to wrap up I was pretty ticked but now I see there’s a whole other season I guess??
Overall, I really did like season 4, I thought it was most riveting to watch since S2 cause the stakes felt so high. I’m excited to see what happens next season and I hope there’s lots more Erica and Robin cause I loved that they got more screen time this round.
