love how doctors' new-patient questionnaires STILL ask "do you have sex with men, women, or both" as if the answer to that question actually tells them what they want to know. it wouldnt be that suprising if it was just the trans exclusionism, but do they not realize by this point that:

cishets have anal sex too

cishets have sex where the man is anally penetrated

cishets have nonpenetrative sex all the time

I feel the solution to this would be pretty simple. just give patients a checklist for what kinds of sex they have and include stuff like "penetrative anal (giving), penetrative anal (receiving), oral anal (giving), etc etc etc." Not only would this be more gender inclusive but it would ACTUALLY TELL the doctor what they need to know

just remove gender from the question entirely, otherwise you are quite literally making assumptions about the patient's sexual behavior that could affect their health and how your treat them

hi not being called the name and pronouns you want to be called is a big fucking deal actually. yes, i know honey, you're used to it. you're so used to it, because you have to be. because if you realized how people don't see *you,* and instead see who they *want* you to be... it'd hurt too much. and i don't want to trigger that pain here.

but i do want you to know that just because it doesn't feel important on the surface, doesn't mean it isn't significant. doesn't mean you don't deserve better. doesn't mean you shouldn't fight for yourself. i want you to know your feelings and the pain they cause matter, no matter how repressed they are.

being queerly gendered is hard in this world, and it's even harder when people don't truly see you. whether they're passing strangers who make too many assumptions about you, or people meant to love you who refuse to see who you are. it's hard. it's tiring. and one day, when you get all the love and support you deserve, you'll know just how important you are.

until then... take care. be patient with yourself. give yourself a little grace. even seemingly unrelated things get exhausting or distressing when your identity is ignored. that's natural. it's not your fault. ever. it's theirs.

Shout out to the doctor I had the pleasure of getting these wise words from:

She said this during our first meeting, in which I expressed I wanted top surgery. She cut me off before I relived all my years of body dysphoria.

#it was the first time it was acknowledged my body makes my mental health worse #rather than my transition being a product of trauma I experienced #i sobbed in her arms #and she ordered x-rays the following week because she knew medically motivated reasons for surgery are more likely to be approved #rather than a 'mental diagnoses' #even living in a state where queer healthcare is objectively 'more accessible' I still gotta be careful #my x-rays revealed today a bit spine curvature right about where my chest rests so theres some progress #lgbt #queer #queer health #trans #top surgery

We’ve all see the posts about a recall of a batch of testosterone cypionate. It turns out there are FOUR separate recalls, some with multiple lots included, all within the past month and a half.

On the next page, we’ll have a list of those lot numbers and expiration dates, and on the following slide there is a photo highlighting where you can find the lot number as well as where to call/email to start a return.

We had a patient yesterday who contracted HIV after being raped. She was raped because she was drunk. She was drinking because life was shitty: a house burnt down, a divorce, and a death of a child within the span of a year.

My heart hurt for her. I can’t imagine the pain she has been through. I am so proud of her for making it through and seeking care.

Fuck the stigma, we have enough barriers as it is.
