Just thinking about how Pierce Brown did the most for his fans. When he realized his books had found an unexpected home with the queer community he listened to their interpretations of his characters and said “yea absolutely 100% they are all bisexual and I accept 90% of your theories about who has banged” and then he doubled down by adding a queer character to his sequel series who became an instant fan fav. He wasn’t a token, he wasn’t a small side character, he was a new, main character, which was a huge risk when your fan base expects to spend time with characters they already know and love. But in typical Pierce Brown fashion he created someone so rich, nuanced, and heartbreaking that the fans responded with love. And *spoiler alert* before someone says “bury your gays” I will defend that choice because it was meaningful, powerful, and cemented his legacy as a top tier character. Besides, if you know these books you know the theme should be “bury your favs” lol I’m gonna go cry now.

Anybody who’s been in the closet knows what it feels like to take actions independent of your self identity and interior will, which I think is what makes Taylor Hebert such a relatable protagonist for queer and trans people.

There was a period while I was in the closet where I was a fucking irl supervillain for some people while interiorly thinking “I hope this helps them respect me more :)”

The android was a little taller than her, ash-white synthetic skin, with legs like a light year slotted into heeled black boots. It wore the same tapered black trousers and half-buttoned shirt as the many-toothed receptionist, though significantly better. The face was carefully androgynous beneath a shock of electric blue hair.

“How do I turn you off?” she asked. “Enough that you stop trying to sleep with me?”

A short piece of queer scifi that fell into my brain one day at work and wrote itself on the back of scrap receipt paper. Contains discussion of sex work, issues of negotiating consent, and briefly non-explicit sexual scenes.
