Folklore is Necessary, Bigotry is Not, and How to Spot an Expert
Folklore is Necessary, Bigotry is Not, and How to Spot an Expert
Hello everyone. Yes, I know it’s been a long time. This year has had both beautiful and tragic things changing my plans. This blog was also attacked by a racist troll. That has been handled, and their comments will never be seen. I don’t even have to read them, as they are instantly deleted. Yay! This is MY space, and I am honored to share my experiences and expertise with you, and it is my right…

Warnings applied; Queerphobia, state-sanction queerphobia, queer spaces being raided by religious police.
I am disgusted. I am saddened.
On 29 October, just last weekend, the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (or JAWI) has raided a private event held in RexKL under the reason of 'encouraging vice' despite having permit and permission to held such event.
In reality, the raid was made to further prosecute queerfolks within queer spaces. Around 20 queer Malaysians and drag queens were detained and brought into question by the authorities. Not only that, these 20 detainees were asked humiliating and demeaning personal questions.
Though the vocal minorities have been questioning the validity of such raid against a permitted, private event, majority of Malaysians remain indifferent, even supporting this cause because they believe queerfolks nothing more than subhumans. What sad is that many closeted queers, especially closeted Muslim queers, also expressed their support to JAWI in spite them breaching queer spaces, that they also benefited from.
I been trying to stop myself from reading the discourse in social media because I get triggered fairly easily, but keeping silence in these trying times are no less horrible than those who support this kind of raid.
I am proud that some prominent figures, influencers and politicians remain strong in defending queerfolks as well as calling out against the Malaysian government for this atrocity against queers' rights in Malaysia.
For your information, Malaysia is one of the 69 countries that remain adamant to not recognise queers' rights as basic human rights. There are state-funded conversion camps (here and here), state-sponsored homophobia, and not to mention the continue fearmongering of HIV/Aids as a queer-related-diseases when in fact it can affect everyone regardless the involvement of queer people.
For more infos about this incident, I linked a few resources for you to read;
Malaysia police detain 20 at LGBTQ+ Halloween party for 'cross-dressing' and 'encouraging vice' by Amelia Hansford, via PinkNews
Raided RexKL Guests Allegedly Subjected To Demeaning Questions and Poor Treatment By Authorities by Adeline Leong via The Rakyat Post
LGBTQ+ Folks Share Their Stories On What Wend Down At The RexKL Raid by Afiq Amin via Hype
Netizens, Politicians And Artists Express Regret On Halloween Party Raid At RexKL by Fernando Fong via The Rakyat Post
I am both tired, scared, disgusted and mortified to see queerfolks continue to face discrimination from the government and its people, more within the recent few years. This is barbaric, archaic and backwards.

Lets create a house where yelling means we’re having fun. When you hear a door slam you know it was accidentally pulled with too much strength, not slammed out of anger. When there is silence, it is Contentment, not another passive aggressive fight. The dog is no longer barking to protect, he simply just wants the cats to play with him. Let’s create a safe, warm environment that makes you feel like you can breathe, not hold your breath. Let’s stomp on the eggshells we use to tip toe on. Together we will make this house into a home. And welcome all with open arms into this kind and loving space.

Been thinking a lot about gentrifying digital spaces
Mostly because of the upcoming “Migration” from Reddit. And the closest thing I can think of is how it feels for a gay bar to be taken over by straight, cis, women.
I appreciate that you’ve heard of us. I am so glad that we’ve made it safe here for you. Nice of you to choose your night out with us.
This space wasn’t made for you. To ask this space to accommodate you is valid, but not fair. The people you will bring with you (in the metaphor, straight, cis, men, out of the metaphor the parts of Reddit we stay here to avoid) are welcome too, if they play by the rules of the space the locals have established.
But they won’t. We all know they won’t. This is how gay bars die.
The phrase that keeps going though my head is “If you wanted to use it, you’d be here by now.” This site is not your lifeboat because your community got toxic.
This culture and space exists because of the people who have been here, in some cases for literal decades. You either need to prepare to acclimate, or back the fuck up.

reblog this if your account is a safe space for polyamorous and non-monag people or is owned by someone who is polyamorous or non-monogamous
op is a monogamous person who felt they haven't seen enough posts acknowledging this part of the queer community outside of non-monogamous circles and blogs
