thing about deltora quest that only occurred to me in hindsight is not only just how much jasmine carries the entire party on this quest but also how genre-defyingly brutal she is lol. like, this is a kid's series that hinges on riddles and puzzles far more heavily than combat - even when deaths occur, they're often the result of cleverness in some way rather than straight up combat ability. that said, let's look at the villain kill count at the end of book five of eight of the first series:
- lief: 1 - even there it's with a well-thrown bottle of cursed water rather than his sword.
- barda: 0 - i'm not counting that one unnamed sand beast, that's an animal not a villain.
- filli: 0 - he is a squirrel, this is unsurprising.
- kree: 1 - killed an invincible sorceress all by himself, good bird best friend.
- jasmine: 5 - dropped a tree branch on a mf, drowned two cannibals in quicksand, cut a giant snake's throat, shoved a dude down a pipe full of toxic mold (after having to be told not to cut his throat while he slept jfc).
idk it just suddenly struck me as really funny how this one character who isn't the protagonist is almost from a different, far more brutal story, and uses that fact to consistently be the mvp and save everyone else's asses. i need to read this series again it's been too long.

Just realized that, in the eyes of Teyvat, Furina is the first Archon that wasn't part of the OG 7 that we meet.
Venti and Zhongli are literally the oldest remaining archons from that time.
Almost nobody knows about Ei and Makoto being twins, assuming they are the same person (even then Ei has been there since the beggining of the age of the archons).
Thanks to Rukkhadevata's sacrifice, everyone assumes Nahida has always been the archon, just lost plenty of memories and powers.
Meanwhile, Furina succeeded Egeria as Hydro Archon.
Maybe that's the main reason Neuvillette didn't mind working with her (at first, before he basically adopted her alongside the melusines). All the other archons can be seen as Celestia's accomplices in taking the power of the sovereigns, since they were all victors of the Archon War and "accepted" said terms. Meanwhile Furina just received the title after Egeria's death, having nothing to do with that.
So maybe Neuvillette sees Furina as another victim of Celestia, because, despite doing her best to protect Fontaine, she is clearly struggling to hold everything. And he decides it's an injustice to just thrust someone into such an inportant position without prior training, or maybe even consulting said person beforehand (who knows, maybe they just threw the gnosis at her face after Egeria died).

Spoilers for 2.0 and Hanu's prison break
The Watchmaker created Clockie after IPC left Penacony, probably to represent himself. He probably also created the other cartoon characters too, based on real history. Boss Stone obviously represents IPC (there are stories that are supposedly based on real history - so the distrust towards IPC should be ingrained in Penacony's culture. Boss Stone is literally Clockie's main antagonist).
So I've got a crack theory.
Hanu reminds me of our MC - gray hair, yellow eyes, Caelus' hat with feathers and wing-like things from the trailer reminds me of Hanu's hat. One communicates with cool grunts, and the other is mostly a silent protagonist. So he probably represents us? Or, if it's about some old history, is it one of the Nameless Himeko mentioned? What if we are one of these Nameless? Our age and past are unknown, what if we are really old and took part in these events, together with the Watchmaker?
And some dialogues in Hanu's prison break remind me of what's happening right now in the story, with people forming alliances against each other and all. I'm not exactly sure who this bird is supposed to represent though.

brad loves all of his bugs equally (so he says), and he'll be the first to admit that he's a spider person above all else.
but his favorite species that he owns? scolopendra dehaani centipedes. they're one of the most venomous and aggressive centipedes, and one of the largest, too. these fuckers give old world tarantula owners nightmares (I know this because I just got a dehaani for free from a tarantula owner with OBTs that kept having nightmares about the pede), and even most people that keep centipedes wouldn't touch a dehaani with a ten foot pole.
but brad is, well, brad. the idea of a creature so gorgeous and intelligent being capable of scaring even the people who keep truly deadly species is fascinating to him.
he would certainly hate to be bitten by one. but that only makes him love them more - that an animal so incredible could also be capable of inflicting pain unlike anything he's ever experienced before. they're certainly a beast that doesn't just ask for respect, they demand it. brad only wishes he could be that intimidating without even trying.
anyway here's a picture of my new dehaani named antares who's somehow the only chill dehaani in the entire world. brad would probably be disappointed to see a dehaani that's not eagerly biting everything that moves, but I for one am incredibly relieved to know they're not all chaos embodied
