“Do you feel old?” You ask Jude, your voice hoarse from performing multiple songs back to back on the garish karaoke machine his mum had rented out for the occasion. There are now at least a dozen badly shot videos of you singing in Jude’s camera roll, including a rendition of ‘happy birthday’ sung by you and his brother where half his index finger is covering the lens.
“What’d you mean?” After hours of displaying nothing but rash energy, Jude finally feels himself getting sluggish while trying to endure the unbearable gnawing feeling of pins and needles rising up his legs; a big plush sofa sits untouched on the other side of the living room but you’ve both decided to drunkenly cram yourselves onto the armchair in a mess of tangled limbs.
“Just a silly question.” As you flutter your eyes shut, Jude tries to get a proper look at the glitter eyeshadow you had meticulously applied earlier that evening. In the wake of a large round of tequila shots, some of his friends had insisted on having their own ‘sparkle stuff’ and began queuing at the bathroom door like kids waiting to get their face painted like a tiger at the zoo. “Do you feel any older yet?”
“I’m not sure.” It’s the kind of question he’d once been asked in the primary school playground, with a blue birthday badge pinned proudly onto the fabric of his uniform. Back then it seemed very easy and obvious to answer plainly with a ‘no’, though now he’s finding himself stumped for a reply entirely. “Do you ever feel like that?”
“I think the last age I felt was seventeen.” You say definitively as if you've thought about it at great length before. Jude hadn’t known you at that age, but his home screen for almost a year was a photo your mum had shown him of you pulling a horrific face while blowing out the candles of your seventeenth birthday cake.
“That’s probably the same for me.” Embarrassingly, Jude had once referred to himself as a ‘seventeen-year-old’ during a frenzied post-match interview and then had to sheepishly correct himself by clarifying that he had just turned nineteen. Sometimes he feels like the years are slipping through his fingers like sand and there’s no sufficient way to stop them.
“Then before that it was twelve.” You continue as you do a little cat-like stretch with your free arm which Jude finds incredibly endearing along with everything else you do; he supposes it’s a very common side-effect when it comes to being in love.
“I found being twelve proper boring.”  It was something he remembers expressing even at that age. Just as if he had been dropped off somewhere by his childhood and was painstakingly waiting for his teenage years to finally pick him up and take him somewhere exciting. “It’s such an in-between age.”
“That’s true.” The sky in the open window behind you is that awkward shade of grey that appears just before sunrise, like a page when a printer begins to suddenly run out of ink.
“I wish we’d known each other as kids.” Jude feels as though he goes through life with your name humming inside his chest like a second heart and yet this sentence seems so intimate that he can’t even look at you as speaks. Instead, he takes extra care and attention towards staring at the ceiling and inspecting all the sparse helium balloons that have floated up towards it.
“So do I.” Your words come out as a dozy whisper and Jude finds himself smiling up at a star-shaped foil balloon. He’s not twelve or seventeen, but he’s just turned twenty and loves you so much that he doesn’t even care that both of his legs have gone completely numb from sitting with you on this unbearably uncomfortable armchair.

What do you mean by digital cleaning?
It's something I've been working on more this year because I had a bit more travel than usual so couldn't do actual home cleaning, but I always take a couple of days in the Month Of Cleaning where I'm focused on my digital life. It's good to make your physical home a comfortable place for yourself, but it's also good to recognize that we have "digital" homes that need attention. And often this is at least less physically demanding, so it's good to keep it in your back pocket for days when you're mentally okay but physically too tired or sore to do more of that kind of work.
In the shortest possible terms, digital cleaning is just making sure that your phone, computer, socials, and other digital "presences" are organized in a way that you find helpful, and that you take a moment to either answer those messages you've been putting off or give yourself amnesty on doing so.
This tends to make a lot of people extremely anxious in a way ordinary physical space cleaning doesn't, so I'm going to put the rest of it behind a cut...
So when I say digital cleaning, I refer to stuff like going through my likes on Tumblr and clearing them out, going through my drafts and turning them into queued posts, answering my asks. I spend time in my email inboxes, either responding to messages or removing them. I am not an "inbox zero" kind of guy, but I like to keep the read-but-not-answered messages to a minimum, and towards the end of the year that usually means a clear-out and amnesty. I clean my Google Drive -- delete old files I uploaded for others, move documents I'm no longer using into an archive, move documents I want to work on into a central work folder. I go through my catch-all folder on my hard drive and organize it; I sort through the year's photos and organize those, partly to archive them and partly because I make a scrapbook from them each year. I don't usually have a ton of tabs open but often have more than I'd like, so I go through them all and either read, bookmark, or get rid of them.
I look in my phone's file tree to make sure I delete files I don't need (mostly menu downloads, Restaurants Stop Making Your Menus PDFs Challenge 2K24) and I sometimes go through each app on my phone, make sure I still use it, and make sure it's set how I want it. If this sounds like a nightmare, bear in mind that I very rarely put apps on my phone to start with -- I think my mother has more apps open at any given time than I have apps on my phone ever.
Everywhere I clean, I look for files named things like "notes" or "deal with" or "random" and move them all into one place so that whatever is in them, I can sort through it and make sure it goes somewhere permanent. Logins go in the login/password spreadsheet I keep, addresses go into my contacts, story notes go into a "fiction scraps" file, random thoughts either get moved into a journal file or put into drafts to become Tumblr posts, etc.
If this sounds like I might have some kind of compulsion disorder, I get that; when I explain my digital hygiene systems a lot of people look at me like I'm spouting a mad but harmless conspiracy theory. But it's something I used to have to do periodically even before I created National Clean Your Home Month, because otherwise I could never find anything, and everything was just...harder. As I once told a boss who admired my organizational skills, "It was this or endless chaos."
Putting addresses into my contacts list means I always know that the addresses I have for my friends are up to date. Putting logins into a spreadsheet means that five minutes spent now will not result in five weeks of procrastination later because I can't find the login and can't do anything else until I do that. Going through my email and archiving old conversations means not only can I find them easily when needed, I don't have to look at them the rest of the time. Sometimes I even go through my various wish lists and remove old/purchased items, or clear out all my "save for later" carts.
There's no doubt this is stressful, but like every part of NaClYoHo, it's broken down into smaller tasks; I don't have to look at my computer and organize everything on it all in one day. I can answer a few asks, then sort photos (something I find very soothing up until the moment I Don't), then read and delete some emails, then I'm done for the day. I can spread "answer or file all your work emails" out over a couple of days. I can maybe empty out my Likes but just turn the ones I actually want to reblog into drafts for now and deal with them later in the "drafts" phase of cleaning. And if I don't manage to empty out my inboxes, at least they're emptier than they were.
I'm struggling this morning with having put a bunch of physical cleaning on the to-do list but not feeling physically up for it, so I did what I felt capable of doing (measuring cabinets for new shelf liners mainly) and later today I might sit down and start building this year's photobook. Or not -- I have to code Radio Free Monday, sort out a prescription and possibly go pick it up, plus a very full day of work and a couple of afternoon appointments I can't shirk, so today may simply be a "get through the day" kind of day. That's okay too; some days the spirit is willing but the schedule is full.

The really important part of packing
The stuff that needs to go to Finland with me this week is piled up on the bed right now. (Now comes the process of removing the stuff that doesn't really need to go. In some ways this is a little like editing a novel.)
But now comes a vitally important part of traveling with these bags (and something that—due to various weird health issues that some of you have heard more than enough about—hasn't happened in three years):
Refreshing the luggage stickers.
Tumblr media
A company called Laughing Elephant, which started out as Green Tiger Press, back in the day—purveyors of wonderful prints and stationery featuring illustrations from children's books—makes these stickers. They're repros of actual airline, rail and steamship luggage stickers from years past.
Tumblr media
Adorning your luggage with these serves three important purposes (and maybe more):
They help you positively ID your baggage at reclaim.
They serve to distract and entertain people (particularly small children) who're otherwise bored out of their minds while waiting in line / queued up behind you at airports or train stations or wherever. We've gotten into fabulous conversations with lots of people about these over time, and made some great Travel Acquaintances.
And possibly most useful of all:
They routinely provoke enough interest among the baggage handlers who're dealing with your checked baggage that they refrain from flinging it around the joint like the gorilla in the old American Tourister commercial. (When seated in the right spot in the plane, both @petermorwood and I have seen this happening both as the luggage is getting on and as it's getting off. A pause to examine, to discuss, and then the bag gets put on the cart with visibly more care.)
This can only be a good thing.
So: time to freshen this one up a little. Before...
Tumblr media
...after.
Tumblr media
...Ideally the entire visible surface will eventually be covered. But "house rules" insist that the application of new labels can only happen at actual travel time. So we'll see how the next few years go...
ETA: These are where The Great Artificer got the idea for the Discworld baggage labels. We ran into Bernard when making our way across the internal plaza at the hotel hosting the Discworld convention in Tempe AZ in ... 2009, I think it was? -- and Bernard looked at our bags and said "We could do those!" ...As a result, we have a double set of the Discworld baggage labels, but as they are no longer being produced and are incredibly rare, we don't add them to our mundane baggage: they're too precious.

Technical Difficulties (Al/astor)
OK HERE IT IS Seriously the audio took me longer than I expected but rrrghhh I think it came out SWELL YUSS? I really had to push because I don't do a lot of fan voicing and I'm nervous but >.< I promised!! Enjoy!!
Alastor lounges over his vibrant crescent desk, his planned skit stacked on the red wood. The Radio Demon leans languidly toward his scepter--the microphone now powering the studio, with his help of course.
He flicks a few switches and curls the knobs with pointed claws until the soothing whine licks his ears, making them shiver.
Yes. The good stuff. The correct method.
“Hm~” Alastor hums as he finishes gearing up the system.
The display lights up and--go!
“Welcome, welcome listeners! To another radio show! Today I’ve been sent a request--which I shall graciously grant. I hope you enjoy this gift. Aren’t I generous?”
The click of a switch marks the start of the queued song and Alastor begins to bob his head along. Mmm~ Not exactly what he would have picked, but it’s nice and jaunty. He shuts off his mic so no one can hear him as he flips through the stack of papers, planning out his next few songs. He grins when he sees the lineup.
Alastor rises, hands clasped behind his back, as he observes the new gear in his studio. He had to wait so long to see all of his new toys. Well, new to him. Technically these mechanisms aren’t new. He prefers it that way.
He skates past his neatly arranged desk, shoes clicking like ice cubes on the hard floor, until he pauses next to a bookshelf. A few tomes have been moved, one leaning against another, and a not so thin layer of dust (dust!) has formed over it.
A snarl lifts under his nostril and he can feel the bubble of anger fizzing in his chest. He reaches to swipe across the top of the book and comes away with a disgusting clump. He growls with indignant offense.
Who in all the visible hells is responsible for--
Snf!
Oh fucks no. Fucking hells no.
Alastor’s dark eyes jerk toward the still rolling song. His snarl stutters, causing the sound to fizz. Fuck fuck fuck.
He pinches his nose with his clean hand, cinching the air in his throat, “HX-٨ـﮩZz!”
The song flutters and Alastor has more than one reason to punish whoever cleaned--or didn’t clean--the station before he came.
Forgetting all else, he picks  up speed, heading toward the gear and holding his hands above it, as if his magic could prevent it from further disturbance.
There. It’s fine. He just n-eeds t-to…
“H˚〰gk!”
The song crackles, jumping forward by at least half a minute, “H’ZN٨ـﮩKw!” his teeth chit together and the static buzzes with new life.
A violent hiss seethes from the Radio Demon as he threatens his nose with a violent smush to stamp out the tickle. Enough of that.
The song finally ends and he glides back to his seat, voice trilling once more.
“Apologies, folks! Technical difficulties. But! I shall make it up to you, dear caller. I have quite a refined ear--makes for a good host, no? Let’s find some--h٨ـﮩhhh--something with a bit more punch, hm?” he ignores the pops from the speaker and flicks on the song.
He knows he should be gracing his listeners with more of his voice, but first he has to deal with this goddamn dust.
After one more sweep of the station, the Radio Demon finds five more patches of grime. Five! Filthier than a hellhound’s gullet, this is!
Even movement as simple as turning around has him bumping into a shelf of old cobwebbed shelves, spitting granules of dust into the air. The air Alastor is breathing for fuckwave’s sake!
He cups his  nose and mouth with a claw as his eyes water. Muffled hitches warm his cheeks and spackle his fingers with moisture.
“Hih٨ـﮩh-XZ٨ـﮩST!”
Godfuckingdammit!
The song on the station warps and a bud of rage burns Alastor’s core. His breaths are beating against his chest, hungry to get free.
“Hh-hmn KZZ٨ـﮩZZH! H٨ـﮩH-FUCK! TZ٨ـﮩZH-IY!”
Alastor stumbles back behind the desk, flicking switches and knobs. Only the clicks and plinks of the switches signify he’s done anything. His left hand covers his face in an attempt to muffle the crackling hitches, but they whine through the janky song regardless.
“H-ih! IH!” The waves bump and leap, Alastor’s fingers wobbling as he fights with himself while trying to regain control of the show. There’s a faint sound, the hint of leftover bandwidth. Then, “HY-X٨ـﮩZZH٨ـﮩH-Y٨ـﮩH!”
A siren pop! The station whirrs, then lets out a final gasp before it loses the last dregs of power.
Alastor freezes in the dark, now silent tower. He gives the switches another flaccid flick.
Nothing’s working. Everything seems to have shorted out. His fist curls, shivering with barely concealed violence.
Alastor rips his hand from his face and whirls to wrench the rotary phone from its cradle near the wall. Thank fucks for landlines.
He dials, eyes black and heavy as he speaks into the phone’s shell.
“I want a new cleaner. Fire the other one.”
A pause. Then, “She sounds perfect. Send her over.” This one better be good.
He scoffs at the next question, “I really do not care what you do with the old cleaner.” He hesitates for a moment, his eyes crawling over the studio, his radio show cut before it even really began. His lips curl, shadows dancing and splitting behind his back. “Actually,” his voice crackles and blares down the line, “I do.”

December Prep
Hello everyone and welcome to the 2024 Grimoire Challenge!
I'm your mod Hazel/ Basil and my main blog is thehazeldruid.tumblr.com
So for December's prompts we will be setting things up and getting prepared for the challenge. We'll be using a lab notebook, as we did in the last challenge I ran and a similar format to both of the other challenges that I ran! Check them out at the links below
2019grimoriechallenge.tumblr.com
2022grimoirechallenge.tumblr.com (this one didn't make it a full year as I had some personal things come up that prevented me from completing it!)
Now, to jump into things properly, let's start by getting our lab journal ready. This is a notbook that goes alongside this challenge and is a tool to help you work through and understand your own craft. Here's a short video on lab notebooks to give you and idea of what we'll be doing with it.
Now along with the lab notebook, I recommend keeping a a meditation/ dream journal that will also go along with the challenge. Both of these can be plain old notebooks or loose paper stuffed into a folder.
"But Hazel, why two notebooks if all this stuff is going into my grimoire?"
So for a long time, and in I would imagine most peoples practices, their grimoires or books of shadows are not really a fancy big thick notebook. Mine was a folder stuffed with loose leaf paper for the longest time.
While the lab notebook is going to be used for the practical side of the challenge, during spellwork and rituals and so on to help you build that side of your practice, the other journal is going to be used for the personal side. To help you understand your feelings, your spiritual side, your thoughts on what you're doing and studying. Think of it as a literal journal or diary!
Next we'll talk about Planning and Routine. Now, you don't have to take this challenge so very seriously that it rules your life. Once the prompts are posted, there will be a list of them on the blog that you can go back to whenever you have time. But if you're someone who strives on structure, then by all means, take the time set aside each day to perform the prompt on the day it is set for. And stick to it. Plan ahead and create a routine to help you get into a groove for working through the challenge. Set aside the time each day, find a space where you won't be interrupted, have your resources and tools prepared, and go nuts!
That said, I will be making all of the prompts ahead of time and having them all more or less queued (hey I have a full time job and a family after all) so that I'll be able to add supplemental posts, prompts and ideas on the fly.
Once you have your notebooks, and your plan made up, we'll be prepared to start in January! I look forward to all of you taking part and encourage everyone to share resources by asking questions on posts, leaving messages in my inbox with resources and ideas as well as submissions of your progress!
So what all do I recommend we have for this challenge?
A regular journal
A dream journal
Your collection of information
Your supplies for making your grimoire
and of course your Grimoire itself
Thanks!
Mod Hazel

Christmas at the Mansion (+ the castle)
I'm posting this now because I leave for a trip for the holidays tomorrow (and I don't know how my schedule will be), although I also have an old holiday scenario queued up for Christmas day :) If you celebrate anything, Happy Holidays, and if not, have a nice end of the year! I'll still be around to answer questions and post quotes and stuff at the very least.
Like with Thanksgiving, first and foremost, Slender is cooking and baking a fuck ton of food. But, he's got a lot more company in the kitchen this time as LJ, Candy, and Jason are all making a whole bunch of candy and cakes and other desserts as it's their time to shine. LJ actually has his own candy-pulling hook, and he makes homemade candy canes for everyone in whatever flavors they might want that year (they usually vote on them and he'll make a few batches), and everyone snacks on them while waiting for dinner to be ready.
I think they probably do Secret Santa in the mansion because there are just so many of them, and if they want to get an extra gift for specific people they're allowed to do that too, although those gifs are usually exchanged privately, although Slender gets at least one gift for every resident. They all get up early in the morning, and Slender will make a big yummy breakfast with pancakes, homemade cinnamon rolls, and hot chocolate for everyone, and they'll sit around the giant tree and exchange all the Secret Santa gifts. Some years they might do themes, but most of the time they just all try and get something that they think their person will enjoy. After they exchange those gifts, if anyone got an extra gift for specific people they usually pair off and exchange those.
After the gift exchange, it's Christmas movie time. They'll go into the big living room and they take turns picking Christmas movies to pass the time while Slender is making Christmas dinner. Everyone snuggles up with their hot chocolate and just relaxes, telling jokes and funny stories while they watch Christmas movies they grew up on, and it's fun for the creeps that were/are human to show movies to the demonic residents who haven't seen them yet. For lunch, Slender will usually have Tim prepare some food for everyone, and by that time the candy canes are usually ready so everyone snacks on those as well.
By the time dinner is ready everyone's excited and rushing into the dining room to have Slender's famous Christmas feast. Slender usually has his brothers and his mom over for Christmas dinner, Toby invites his mom over, and Natalie invites her younger brother. Everyone is happy to be surrounded by the family they love, especially since Mrs. Rogers and Slender's mom always bring extra dishes that taste so fucking good. It's one of the most lively dinners in the mansion because everyone's bantering and sharing stories about each other, and the room always fills with laughter and smiles. I think Slender's mom would probably also get gifts for all of the residents (and the extra guests) too, and she'd share them after dinner was over. After dinner, everyone normally just hangs out and plays video games or board games, especially if someone got a new one for Christmas, and they'll just spend time together laughing and having fun until everyone gets too tired to stay awake anymore.
On the other side of the Underworld, Zalgo also tries to have a Christmas for his employees as well. He and the best cooks of his employees will prepare a gigantic, lavish feast for all of the workers that reside in the castle, and they'll all eat together in the large dining room in the castle meant to fit all of them. Zalgo also takes care to provide a gift for all of his employees, and while he has well close to 100 including his castle and the employees of his assassination company, he makes sure to get them a gift they'll honestly enjoy. Of course, they always get him gifts as well, even if he tells them that he doesn't need them, but the blush and shy smile on his face at their generosity makes it worth it for them to do so. Zalgo will have to return to some work eventually, but he does his best to provide a good holiday to his workers, as he feels they deserve it for all of the hard work that they do.

All of this start of the season Jack content is making me feel things!!! All I can think about is him and older Norris reader after the ring toss! What does he plan for the date? How does it go? What is everyone in their lives reactions to it? Does she go to Jersey with him? Jess your writing is so immaculate this AU has infiltrated my brain😂🥰
read part one here :)
as she hears his footsteps descending the steps, she thinks about how she wouldn't be doing this for anyone else, especially not on a first date.
her dress and heels were long abandoned in a guest room, instead exchanged for a pair of jack’s sweatpants and a too big t-shirt from her college days she had left at the hughes brothers’ house at some point during her many trips there over the past few weeks. her hair was now pulled away from her face, the fact that she had moved her wash day for the occasion be damned.
“so,” he lets out a big sigh before quite literally falling onto the l-shaped part of the sofa beside her. she’s got her legs tucked underneath her, a wine glass held tight in one hand, and her head resting on another on the back of the couch. the remote is resting on her thigh and all either of them had to do was press play on the third mighty ducks movie (“it’s better than miracle, jack. not even an argument,” and she quickly learned that jack does whatever she wants, so that was an easy debate to have before he retreated to shower) that had been queued on the screen for the past twenty minutes. instead, jack throws an arm lazily over her legs, gives her that stupid grin of his she’s become obsessed with, and nods, “tell me about y/n.”
“you know about y/n,” she states as though it was a fact, which it was. they weren’t strangers to each other in the slightest, having been somewhat background characters in each other’s lives for the last eight years.
“no, i don’t. i know about the y/n whose posts i see on instagram or whatever updates my mom tells me she’s learned from your mom. that doesn’t count,” his index finger traces the outside seam of the pants she was wearing from her calf, to just above her knee, and back, “i want to know about the y/n in front of me.”
“okay then,” she takes a deep breath, swirling her wine around in her glass before taking a sip, “i was born here in michigan, but moved to germany for a little while when my dad was still playing. before you ask me, no, the only german i can remember is my old address and how to tell them i was lost. when we moved back here, i picked up hockey for a couple of years before deciding to leave it to the boys-”
“you played defense, right?” jack interrupts, staring at her with such an interest.
she hums, “why do you think i always win when me and my brothers fight? i had potential, but it really just wasn’t for me.”
“is that so? because i remember a certain tipsy moment a few weeks ago where you said you quit because you didn’t like the colors of the uniform.”
“that may have been a contributing factor, but i was fourteen and very fashion-conscious. you can’t hold that against me,” she rolls her eyes. she catches sight of the wristbands on his arm and she can’t help but to reach down and tug on them as she resumes her story, “anyway, graduated high school, moved to minnesota for college. go gophers-”
“debatable,” he teases.
“got my degree in communications. thought that i met the love of my life in the backyard of a sigma chi frat house, which we both know how that worked out. moved down to florida, got engaged, called off the engagement, and now i’m back living with my parents. i have lived a life, jack hughes,” she sighs as she finishes off her glass. she didn’t miss the way that his face twitched at the mention of derek and how she just barely ghosted over what had happened. due to the movement, his damp hair had fallen over his eyes and she reached out to push it away, “it’s going to take more than one glass of wine and a first date to get into the good stuff.”
“but i already knew all of that,” he huffs, “tell me something that i don’t already know. tell me about something that makes you happy.”
“recently?” she quirks an eyebrow and he hums, “honestly, you.”
and jack’s world comes to a screeching halt. for as long as he had known her, she wasn’t the type to get sentimental, vulnerable, but over the last two months, he felt that he had seen more versions of her than he knew existed. from the first night she was home, to that plane ride to florida to get her things, to watching her toss her engagement ring into the water right outside his house, it wasn’t enough. he wanted, no he needed more of her. he needed to know every single version of her, every single story, every single emotion that she had to offer him.
her eyes find his and he squeezes her knee, a silent ask. he watches as her throat bobs and just as he goes to crane his neck up to meet her, an alarm sounds. that stupid fucking pizza.
after scouring the entire grocery store, they couldn’t find any pre-breaded chicken for chicken parm and neither of them wanted to bother with doing it themselves. so that’s how they found themselves snatching up a premade pizza with a reduced sticker on the front because its sell-by date was that day and even though jack insisted on getting one that was fresher, she only rolled her eyes and insisted it would taste the same. he, of course, let her sit it in the basket along with the thing of cookies she suddenly had a craving for the second she laid eyes on them. the way her face lit up made it worth the extra work he was going to have to put in later.
despite the insistent beeping from the stove timer, neither of them dared to make a move to go and pull the pizza from the oven. she blinks, “we should probably go and check on it…”
“i think that it can wait for a couple of minutes,” and yeah, it definitely could, because jack was leaning in and so was she. the second their lips meet it’s like nothing either of them had felt before. the build-up, the tension between the two of them over the summer was worth it as they melted into the kiss.
jack’s hand grips onto her thigh while her hand cradles his cheek. it was easy to get lost in each other, lips moving against one another’s like they’d been doing this forever. only when the need for air becomes too great do they pull away panting, still holding onto each other like either would disappear at any given second.
“we really should go check on the pizza,” she insists, swearing she can smell the cheese starting to burn.
he frowns, “can we do more of that later?”
“if you hurry back, you don’t have to wait that long,” she incentivizes and jack is all but scrambling towards the kitchen with the sounds of her laughter following behind him.
yeah, this was definitely something they could get used to.
(they never did hit play on the movie and the pizza didn’t burn, but it didn’t get eaten either. they were too lost in each other to even bother slicing through the crispy dough as it grew colder and colder on the countertop. oh well.)

I'll be leaving tomorrow and then back either Sunday or Monday (the last day of the convention is on Sunday but depending on travel we may stay another day to get some visiting in with fami ly members in the area) so I likely won't be as active in that time ! Most of what you'll see me post will either be stories on my IG of the event OR queued up stuff that I'm cranking out and scheduling tonight 😌
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend, wish me luck! ( ´ ∀ `)ノ~ ♡

I'm going to keep reblogging and helping inform people about the situation(s) happening in the world. but all the problems have really been a huge detriment to my mental health and I think after the strike I might take a little time off tumblr.
This blog isn't even a year old, and it has already deviated from its original purpose (for a good reason!) to help raise awareness to issues in the world and on the internet. Once the strike is over, I just need a break from it all. The blog will be back to its most basic purpose and will just post the daily sparkles until I'm ready to go back to answering asks and posting funny stuff. I've also got some posts queued up for after the strike.
I love y'all and I appreciate you for being receptive to my advocacy and wish to keep my followers informed. For the remainder of the strike, I will still answer asks if anyone has any questions or wants to request any further information on anything.
❤️

It starts at the top
Rev. Dr. Tamara Siuda is a good person who I admire. I consider her a mentor and I probably always will to some degree. She is a skilled Egyptologist, a talented divination professional, a beloved spiritual leader (even still to me now, that remains true), and I dare say under different circumstances she'd be easily considered a friend -- the problem is, no one these days has access to Tamara Siuda long enough to be her friend -- but what's worse is that in, my opinion, no one has enough access to Tamara Siuda to be her devotee, either.
And that is definitely one of the big reasons behind my dropping down from Shemsu-Ankh to Remetj.
Let's roll back for a second though.
Tumblr media
Rev. Dr. Tamara Siuda is the creator of Kemetic Orthodoxy (not Kemeticism, but Kemetic Orthodoxy in specific. She is a truly beloved spiritual leader, and the self-proclaimed incarnation of the Kingly Ka (a spiritual component linking all Pharonic Kemet rulers, aka Pharaohs). She had a calling, and a vision, and she did everything she could to bring those ideas and visions to fruition. Enter Kemetic Orthodoxy.
I arrived in the House late 2000. The year 2000 was a different time: Some people like me will tell you the old days were the better days, and we really do mean it; however, it doesn't come without its caveats. We were smaller back then, and that isn't something I deny to be an easier situation. With a smaller community size, came differences. Much different, in fact. So different, it may have well been an entirely different religion in a lot of ways, not in belief structure, but in access to the people most important to be the guiding lights of the path itself, and interaction with Hemet (a word conveying a type of royalty), or Rev. Dr. Tamara Siuda, was not at all infrequent.
Having an actual human relationship with Rev. Dr. Siuda back then wasn't a difficult task, and it is what I remember most fondly about "the old days", as it were.
Today, you can literally go months without ever seeing Hemet in any accessible KO location. It's strange because I think I didn't notice it for a long time, and only began to realize the extent of this isolation / disconnection for myself when I first joined her Patreon server. While I had spent the 3+ years (4 come Wep Ronpet) since re-joining the temple wondering "where is Hemet in all of this these days" as her presence grew ever more scant, joining her Patreon would be a refreshing surprise, because basically: there she is. It's not terribly difficult to touch base with her when you're on her Patreon Discord or in one of her Patreon programs, and that shook my world a bit more than I thought it would. To the point where it became one of the reasons I pulled out of the same program after being in it for only a very short amount of time.
Where was Hemet? Well she was there, for anyone who was willing to pay for it at least, and that bothered me to my very core. To be extremely clear, I do not believe she means it to look this way. I do not believe it is her intention for things to be this way, but as per our capitalistic society, maybe that's just the way it needs to be.
That sent me spiraling back into my memories, some more recent than others. We had for years disavowed the idea of a "paywall" inside Kemetic Orthodoxy, for example. Even the old mailing list which was a "Donate $5 and get access to extra stuff!" was a source of disdain: People considered that "tiered access", though I think the donation aspect still exists but not held in perpetuity or the like (you donate once, no one notices if you never donate again). But today, the quality of what you get is no longer there anyway, even for $5. I suppose that is because holding anything back "just for donors" brings that "tiered access" problem back. Today, the list you are subscribed to is nothing but a regurgitation of some Daybook content, and it appears to be queued up robotically with absolutely no customization.
It's funny because if you read what the list is meant to provide, it is that Daybook content as well as (quote) "hymns, prayers, and other tidbits provided by Hemet (AUS)." We used to get that back in the day, to be clear. The tidbits, prayers, hymns… we used to even have access to KO blog-style posts from Hemet multiple times per week. Unfortunately, those days are long gone, and as I mentioned, the mailing list is nothing but the same Daybook content on a never-ending carousel, the beautiful inspirational blog posts are long gone, and Hemet is about as distant as both of them.
As a result, I hardly consider the "mailing list" to be a form of tiered content, but there was at one point in the House's history a time when people cried about the disparity between those with $5, and those without, despite always needing donations, and I suppose here we are.
When you think about the fact that we no longer have the access to Hemet we once did, we no longer have the relationship to Hemet we once did, we no longer get the tidbits, prayers, hymns, and other unique content we once did, and no one really cares if you continue donating "at least $5 in a calendar year or not" to be on it, you realize that list is really nothing anymore. It's just recurring mush pre-scheduled and unlovingly dumped into your box at midnight or like, akin to so much spam we avoid day in and day out, and you still technically have to pay $5 for it.
But all the while we the Kemetic Orthodox crowd is getting this regurgitated content and limited access, people are in fact able to get plenty of access to Hemet and personalized relationships and advice... just not within the actual religion she created. And the way they do that is, in fact, by paying for it: the one thing we kept saying we didn't want to do as a religion, but that we can -- and dare I say, should -- do. Because listen: I recognize capitalism, and that nothing operates on hopes and prayers. There should be tiered access available within Kemetic Orthodoxy that gives access to programs and resources so that donations do happen and that Hemet does not need to go to Patreon independently to do what she needs to do, and our community can again have an access to its spiritual leader that makes that much more worth being here to begin with.
Because I can get the Gods anywhere -- I can only get Kemetic Orthodoxy here though.
But at the same time, you can't keep asking for donations, and delivering almost nothing to the very religion you created. And I do not say that in a vacuum, because before you say "all she does behind the scenes", I already know quite a bit of what she does behind the scenes, and I'm here to tell you quite point-blank: it isn't enough (clarify: it isn't enough to only be behind the scenes and just tell people you really really promise you're doing tons of work, even if you never see or get to interact with me).
I'm sorry, Tamara.
It's weird, I know, I sound like I'm speaking against her, but yet seem to turn it around entirely saying things like she should be available via paywalls. It also seems like I'm screaming into a void of entitlement, but again that's not meant to be the case. If you look at what I'm saying, you will understand I am not speaking 'against' her at all. I am in favor of her doing every single thing she must to find joy, happiness, and yes money, because that's the world we live in... and if that's outside Kemetic Orthodoxy, so be it. But you can't necessarily be "King", either, at the same time.
I do not agree with the idea that the only place you can seem to get access to our own spiritual leader in any significant capacity, is outside of the very religion she created. And creating a religion is no small thing, particularly if you are going to be assigned the literal role of Royalty that comes down from a very long, long line. I mean, she won't even participate in our own Discord, and to be clear, she is definitely participating in her own. So this is not a technology-gap kind of thing, and while the excuse over time has always been that people will try to overwhelm her, there are ways of dealing with that -- none of which anyone is willing to explore.
That responsibility you create by the process of birthing an entire religious movement into this world… it cannot be quantified by contracts, donation levels, exterior commitments, or other spiritual lives you may lead. If you create a path followed by hundreds, you need to be there, because that is your creation from the ground up, your baby, and all the babies that came from it depend on you for as long as it remains standing. "How do you make money", "How do you keep it going", "How do you find the time" -- all good questions, and all not questions anyone in the religion you've created technically needs to worry about, because it wasn't their choice to make this path, it was only their choice to follow it.
By making a statement of such importance as being the incarnation of an ancient, profound, holy and somewhat unbroken energy, followed up without a commitment that reflects the very innate reverence and humility contained within the statement itself, is a paradox I am having great difficulty to reconcile, not the least of which is how you can claim to be this, but also be dual-aspected in terms of your own spirituality in your own personal life as well (something I will not comment further on, asit is a point of bitterness I cannot overcome right now but also a very complex point as well that is not fair for me to touch on).
Simply speaking, after great, deep consideration, I have simply had to come to the conclusion as follows:
Rev. Dr. Tamara Siuda, who I still admire, and deeply respect, is not the incarnation of the Kingly Ka of Pharonic Kemet. She remains an amazing spiritual leader, a strong and experienced divination practitioner (which is why I still accept my RPD results), and a beautiful soul. But in its current incarnation? I feel Rev. Dr. Tamara Siuda has functionally abandoned Kemetic Orthodoxy in one too many ways, and I do not believe any true modern-day King could be capable of such a serious lapse or gap.
In a not-insignificant way, I do feel she avoids her community more than she embraces it, and that makes me sad. Too sad to stay as I was any longer, because I was not getting what I needed from a spiritual community, and too much of it went back to Tamara in specific.
It's possible, one day, I will change my mind about this. I am not so arrogant to think I will never change my mind again, I am 41 years old and have changed my mind more times than I can count. But for now, I agreed I would talk about why I've decided to make these changes in my Kemetic spiritual life, and this needed to be said if I was going to be honest. This is how I feel, right now, for today, and probably tomorrow.
I've cut out quite a bit of material from this, things I wrote down in my first few days after I made the change to Remetj that were perhaps a lot more harsh than I intended. I re-read it to myself and, while a lot of it still made sense, I decided it was just not fair to post. Instead, I tried to balance the way I feel, and the things I want to say, with enough balance that I can still project how disappointed I am in the state of everything and turns of events (or lack thereof), without equally projecting a serious attack against another person (which is not my intent).
I am not here to attack. I am here to express, and that will walk a fine line not everyone is going to agree with.
As usual, I'm fairly OK with that. Edit: Wow... in writing this, I wasn't expecting it to feel like a 20-lbs weight has been lifted from my chest, and my heart, and my soul. But here we are.
Edit 2: Someone on Facebook decided to state that I believe Hemet is a "dirty capitalist" -- I want to be clear that if this is what you've gotten from this post, you are wildly mistaken. Either I am not calling her that at all, or I am simply calling us all dirty capitalists, due to the innate unavoidability of capitalism itself. Ultimately, the idea is to combine 'necessary capitalism' with KO in order to save it and to ensure its spiritual leader can survive on what is connected to the House, rather than what comes from outside the House.
But, I was also accused of stating that Hemet should spend 'all of her free time' in the House, and that is a bit more tricky to address. Here's the thing: if you're going to call yourself King / Pharaoh, perhaps this is the responsibility that comes along with it -- whether that is 'palatable' to people becomes irrelevant.
Edit 3: Because we need these edits, yo. To be crystal clear, I also believe there are alternatives to Tamara being "only involved" in KO, but that's going to involve her a) speaking more readily, honestly, and openly to her congregation on a regular basis (perhaps not every day, but regular, none the less), b) dropping down from a position of "King" to something more akin to High Priest or Spiritual Leader so that her role makes more sense, c) creating full delegation to a wide group of people to run the Temple and its resources/platforms (something where change is happening slower than a snail can jog), d) dropping all contracts that indicate she will work x-amount-of-hours for x-amount-of-pay, because the organization is no where near big enough or committed enough to support it, unless e) they finally agree to integrate some revenue stream into the Temple itself. I'm not saying I have all the answers. I'm saying the way it is now, doesn't work, and will only get worse. I am hoping for change that bridges the gaping divides, and I don't have a scripted plan to 100% tell anyone how that would go. I just know that it can't stay like this, and as long as it does, Kemetic Orthodoxy is not for me. Like I said: I can get the Gods anywhere.
