Delivery for Enid Sinclair

A little 2am fic I threw together based on a very sparse prompt from my girlfriend. I don't know proper formatting etiquette on Tumblr so I hope this works out.

Spoilers for Wednesday (2022). Like, right off the bat. Don't even read the second sentence if you haven't finished it yet. Seriously.

Summary: Enid is worried Wednesday left for summer break already, but Wednesday has just been busy.

Honestly, Enid was glad the school year was over. After a disastrous and taxing rollercoaster of a social life followed immediately by a centuries old white supremacist returning from the dead thirsting for genocide and a violent transition into her own as a fully fledged werewolf only to immediately fight for her life against a rampaging Hyde, she was ready for some relative peace and quiet on the sunny beaches of California. She was excited to return to her brightly furnished room at home with the rest of her stuffed animal collection, see her youngest siblings, and soak in the sweet summer rays while exploring the ever changing streets of her hometown, but the cons weighed heavily on her as well. Being home meant being unable to avoid the increasing expectations of her family (No mom, i'm not competing in the werewolf games at the family picnic. Because I don't enjoy rolling around in the mud and ripping the heads off wild animals, that's why), being away from her motley crew of friends, and…well, not being able to see her for an entire summer.

Enid looked around her attic double. Her side of the room was still, frankly, a wreck. It seemed that no matter how much she stuffed into her steamer trunks, there was another stack of jackets or an unreasonably warm quilt to pack away. Wednesday’s side of the room was, in all ways, the opposite. Her luggage was uniformly stacked by her bed, as neat and composed as she was. Where Enid’s side was still draped with every color of the rainbow, Wednesday’s sparse, monochromatic decorations were cleared from every surface she had deemed worthy of their placement. Enid hadn’t even seen her pack. It seemed as if overnight her roommate simply evaporated, leaving only a few trunks and boxes as condensation. Even Thing was noticeably absent. Though she hadn’t caught onto this being the reason why, Enid’s departure from Nevermore was considerably hampered by the distress of Wednesday possibly leaving without saying goodbye. Had she already been picked up, leaving her things to be collected by her odd, zombie-esq butler ? Sure, she had slept in till 11, but after all they’d been through this year Enid thought she meant a little more to her misanthropic roommate.

“I don’t even know if she wants to fill out next year’s housing form together…” She muttered sadly to a stuffed unicorn, holding it by its little chubby cheeks.

“It’s okay Enid” She said in a ridiculous voice, bouncing the doll around as if alive. “You know how she is. I bet she left you a trail of clues to solve that will spell out how she feels about you in no unclear terms”

She scoffed, packing the unicorn away. ‘No unclear terms’ was clearly a sin in the Addams’ household. Wednesday’s vernacular was strictly Victorian-era serial killer. Everything she said was a cutting remark, a blade made of dictionary definitions and honed with 16 years of sarcasm. She had seen teachers and peers alike grow increasingly frustrated while verbally fencing with her, and as someone who valued honesty, as someone who valued kindness, as someone who valued integrity…

…well, she was unwittingly enamored by it. When she had looked up “indelible” in the dictionary, she spent that whole night staring at the ceiling, listening to Wednesday’s nearly imperceptible breathing, thinking about it. Thinking about her. The mark you have left on me is indelible. God, she couldn’t have dreamed of better poetry.

Which is perhaps why she felt so miserable that she was missing. That and the fact that if she didn’t see Wednesday soon, they wouldn’t see each other for months. Wednesday didn’t even have a phone, so they wouldn’t be able to text or call or facetime, and Enid wouldn’t be able to stalk her on Instagram or anything !

She uses her typewriter a lot though. You could send each other letters, sealed with wax and a kiss, like sappho and her friend~

Enid shook her head, clearing the blush she felt rising to her cheeks and stuffing some skirts and leggings into her already cramped trunks. It would probably fit better if she folded them, but she was in no mood, dammit !

She had fully dismantled her decorations and almost finished packing the last of her clothes when she heard the door open and quickly shut behind her. She whipped around and was quite surprised to see no one there until her eyes drifted down and she spotted Thing tapping happily on the floorboards.

“Oh. My. GOD.” She squealed at the sight of him. He was wearing the cutest little delivery man hat, perfectly adorned on his wrist-stump, and had several silver rings on his fingers. Around his…neck ? I guess…was a small card on a gold ribbon. Enid got down low on her haunches as he scampered up to her, tapping out his message.

“A delivery ? for me ??” Enid could barely contain her delight at the little man’s cute outfit, but brought herself to her senses when he (with great difficulty) tapped the card tied to him. She carefully removed it and flipped it over.

To Enid Sinclair: May these flowers remind you of the death and destruction we caused together as they wilt and die despite whatever futile attempts are made to preserve them.

“Flowers !?” Enid scanned around eagerly for Thing’s delivery, but he tapped furiously on the ground to reclaim her attention and pointed at the door. She could barely contain herself as she rushed across the room and yanked open the door, expecting a little arrangement placed on the ground. Instead, she found herself looking at a very familiar pair of black platforms. She followed them up until they all but disappeared behind an enormous vase filled with a carefully crafted bouquet. Alternating black and white flowers of a species which she could not name encircled a marvelous center of pink roses. Hidden behind the spectacle came a beautifully monotone voice.

“We would have been more timely, but Thing insisted on getting dressed up.”

Enid was visibly shaking. She carefully took the vase from the pale hands that carried it, revealing Wednesday Addams, looking anywhere except for at Enid. She was speechless as she stepped to the side, allowing her thematic opposite to enter the room. They stood like that, a few feet apart in silence, for several agonizing seconds. Finally, Wednesday looked up from the floor.

“You are crying. Why ? I thought you liked…stuff like this.”

Enid shook her head, setting down the flowers and wiping the long sleeves of her thneed-like sweater across her eyes.

“I do, I do, I swear, I just…” She petered out with a sniffle, overcome with a slurry of emotions.

Wednesday Addams hadn’t left her behind. In fact, she got Enid a present. Not only did she get her a present, she got her a present she thought Enid would like. Not only did she think Enid would like it, it was a beautiful bouquet of subtext laden flowers. Enid felt like she was going to explode.

“I can get different ones, I'm sure the florist is still suitably threatened. I can be back within the hour. Don’t leave.”

Wednesday turned on her heel for the door, but Enid caught her wrist as she reached for the knob.

“No ! No please, just let me get my shit together. I…I love them so much, you don’t even know.” She let out a wet laugh, getting choked up on the last several months of pining. Wednesday looked up down at the hand holding her wrist, then up at the blonde. Her eyes were impossible to meet, but Enid did it anyway. They were absolutely gorgeous, and she could swear that she could see the cogs turning in Wednesday’s head as she tried to navigate such a deeply human interaction.

“Would…would it, perchance, be helpful, if…” Wednesday let out a little sigh, steeling herself. “Would you. Like a hug. From me.”

Enid nodded furiously, nearly bursting out in tears once more. She literally couldn't even as she draped her arms around the shorter girl’s shoulders and squeezed. Wednesday was stiff in her embrace, her arms awkwardly placed around Enid’s back, but she relaxed as the hug lengthened. Enid could feel Wednesday press her face into her chest, resting her forehead on Enid’s shoulder, and those pale hands found purchase in the fuzzy pink sweater. This time, there was no blood. No open wounds from knives or claws. No adrenaline from defying death. No spectating masses. Just them.

“Okay that’s enough.”

They separated, Enid taking a respectful step back, but found that Wednesday had let her hand retain its grip on Enid’s.

“Thank you Wednesday, this really means a lot to me.”

Wednesday looked uncomfortable, looking at the ground once more, scanning for something to focus on. Enid could only look at her with the softest of smiles.

“You…don’t have to hold my hand if you don’t want to. I’m okay, really, just moved.”

“No.” Wednesday said stiffly. “I want to want this. This is both research and experimentation, and I’ve already procrastinated it long enough, so this is what we’re doing. For now.”

Enid couldn’t help but laugh at her determination. Her hand was honestly cold and a little clammy, but it was a nice, sincere sort of clammy.

“Well I like it. A lot, actually. But there’s no rush, yaknow. We could just sorta take it slow, see what works ?”

Wednesday took a step forward, leashing Enid closer with what quickly became an iron grip. It felt like Enid blinked and Wednesday had closed the gap between them, looking up at her with those stupid, beautiful, inquiring eyes. They were scanning her, reading every inch of Enid’s face as she quickly became a bright red. With her other hand, Wednesday reached up and traced the scars on her face from her fight with the Hyde. The fight to protect her.

“Right. Slow.”

Enid was going to faint. She had gone from believing she was but a memory Wednesday had left behind to kissing her softly in the room they had shared all year. It felt as though the clouds had parted and a beam of celestial light was shining on them through the spider webbed window at the other end of the room. Time stood still, not daring to interrupt the inscrutable Wednesday Addams as she explored this unknown territory, and yet it was still over too soon.

“Interesting.” She said as she came down off her tiptoes. Enid was downright woozy as Wednesday no longer anchored her to the spot.

“Jeepers…” She said dreamily. After kissing someone who regularly used chapstick, it made sense why her kisses with Ajax had needed so much extra spice. She regained her footing, if not her composure, and addressed the Addams.

“So, does this mean- HEY”

Wednesday was writing something down in a black leather notebook. Enid planted her fists firmly on her hips, taking on a scolding tone that was a little too much like her mothers.

“Are you taking NOTES !? Do NOT tell me this was just for your book !”

Wednesday snapped the notebook shut, wrapping the elastic around it to keep it closed.

“Of course I'm taking notes. What part of research and experimentation was unclear. And it’s obviously not for my book, Viper would never be so easily distracted by a love interest.”

Enid was about to fire back a retort, but something tripped her up.

“Love interest ?”

Wednesday nodded and took a slip of paper from her pocket. She held it out to Enid, revealing her new phone number.

“If that is what you would like to be.”

I did a lot of sewing in 2023, and spent more time on my sewing projects than on any of my other hobbies, even though I ended up with relatively few finished products. I drafted patterns, fitted mock-ups, and worked with specialty fabrics, several of them new to me. I'm pleased with how all of them came out, and feel like I improved my skills in both sewing and drafting. And most importantly, I had a ton of fun wearing each one of these projects!

The majority of the year was spent on my Rhaenyra Targaryen cosplay, starting last January with drafting a pattern from my measurements, sewing a mock-up, fitting the mock-up to achieve a more screen-accurate look, and adjusting the pattern accordingly. I worked with silk for the very first time, black silk organza for the underdress and red silk jacquard (woven by a small maker in India) for the main dress. I dyed lacing cords to match, hand-sewed several yards of trim, set a couple dozen grommets by hand, sewed on several different types of beads, and did a lot of handsewing to complete the whole thing. I worked on it continuously for just over seven months, in between work and alongside other sewing projects in the last month or so.

The other major sewing project last summer was the sequin shorts for my Harley Quinn/Taylor Swift mashup cosplay. I based them on the sequin shorts in the first Suicide Squad movie, but made them red and black to match both Harley's more typical color scheme and Taylor Swift's Red color scheme. I drafted a pattern by altering a swimsuit pattern I drafted in 2020, and made a lining out of swimsuit fabric to check the fit, then cut out the exterior sequin fabric. I'd worked with sequin fabric before, but never one with sequins attached in one continuous chain of stitches, which took a little while to figure out how to best handle to keep from unraveling when cut. I ended up handsewing extra sequins onto places of the shorts where the sequins had fallen off.

I purchased the Taylor Swift tshirt but added quite a lot of hand-sewn details, to make it look more like the Suicide Squad tshirt. In July and August I also finished a bunch of other small cosplay crafting items, everything from wig styling and jewelry making, to gluing rhinestones to a pair of bunny ears, repairing the beading on a purchased dress, and adding a hidden pocket to a purchased skirt, all in preparation for Dragon Con at the end of August.

After Dragon Con I needed a couple of months to recover, and while I did start (but not yet finish) a simple knitting project, I didn't do any sewing or pattern drafting again until late November. At that point I knew I wanted to make a cozy stay-at-home winter dress and get it finished just as soon as possible, so I could start wearing it as the weather turned colder.

I drafted a new dress pattern based on the pattern I drafted for Rhaenyra's dress, and a pair of funky wide legged pants from a pajama pant pattern I'd drafted in 2022. The whole project, from drafting the pattern and ordering a sample of the heavy fleece fabric I wanted to use, to the final hand stitching on the hem, took just under a month -- much faster than the Rhaenyra project, with much less fussy fabric and far fewer details. Now that I've gotten to wear it around the house over the last week and a half, there are a few small changes I may make to it in the future, but generally I'm very happy with it.

Currently I actually have two other sewing projects in process, too: hand-sewing/quilting the print from an old tshirt onto the back of a hoodie for Jack (slow going but getting close to done), and a surprise birthday gift for a family member. I'll post pictures of each once they're done, but probably won't post about the surprise project until the gift has been given.

After that, I have plans to start making some layering pieces to put over (and under) the fleece dress. I have some scrap fabric from older projects I'd like to turn into wearable things, and that bolt of cotton herringbone fabric I got a good deal on on Ebay arrived the other day, and needs to be washed and ironed and such before I start figuring out what I want to do with it.

I'm hoping to continue my streak of 2023 sewing into 2024, with that focus on more practical, everyday wearable items, rather than on cosplay. I don't know yet if I'm going to have any cosplay events to attend this year, and even if I do, I'd be quite happy bringing older projects, including those I finished in 2023, out to play again. As much as I love making those big show pieces for conventions, and pushing myself with new-to-me fabric types like silk and sequins, I'll get a lot more use out of everyday pieces, and feel better about my day to day wardrobe at the same time.

Like my first portraits (x), these quilts use a technique called paper piecing, where you print the pattern on paper and then sew through both the paper and the fabric. This method allows for very precise piecing and tiny, tiny pieces of fabric. These quilts are even more detailed than the first ones. I kind of want to remake the first ones now.

I made them into a tote bag.

Check back in a few months for my next Supernatural quilt project; just about ready to start!

Waiting for You | Snupin | M

A little ficlet (299 words) written for Pahn as part of the 2022 HPFC Gift Exchange. Put under a cut because dark themes and nsfw-adjacent.

CWs: Mind manipulation, implied non-con, dark magic and dark potions

It had been so easy.

Almost too easy, in the end. A tap here, a drop there, a counter-stir when the instructions called for clockwise. Not enough to alter the effects of the potion, that wasn’t the point. But every day, a few drops added of his own brew, created to lower inhibitions and to bind the mind of the drinker to the brewer.

It had been his desire from the moment he found out, from when he had been tricked and almost killed, but he had seen and since then he knew. Severus wanted to tame the werewolf, wanted him to be brought to heel, kneeling at his feet.

As he climbs the stairs to the derelict cottage where Lupin now spent his full moons, he feels the anticipation grow. He finds him on the bed, scarred body on display, nothing but skin and bones. The werewolf’s head snaps up as he enters the room and he grabs a blanket to cover himself.

“Don’t,” Severus commands, a thrill sizzling through him as Lupin freezes, his hand dropping the quilt instantly, a confused flicker over his face at his own reaction.

Oh, the need to rant about sewing machines and bad ideas because people don’t actually know what they’re talking about.

My blood's just boiling about a YouTube video I just tried to watch. "Five best sewing machines of 2022".

What a load of baloney.

Seriously.

The video starts off with recommending a toy machine "because of the low cost." What that low cost is going to get you is pain and suffering. Not to mention that it’s unfixable. The sewing machine technicians I work with will not touch them. There’s nothing they can do for them if they break and it’s not worth it to put the money into them. You’re slightly better off with a Singer from a box store. At least you’ll get a little more use out of it. And even then I wouldn’t recommend it with a clear heart. While a cheap, Singer is still better than a toy machine which- just no- leave it on the shelf, don’t put it in your cart, back away slowly and save yourself the money for something better.

Now I’ll focus on Singer. Be careful with what you buy. If it’s over 20 years old (secondhand) you’re good. You’re probably going to be happy with your machine as long as you get it serviced once and awhile. They were good quality machines. DO NOT BUY A BIG BOX STORE SINGER! YOU WILL RUN THE SAME RISKS AS A TOY MACHINE. They are budget machines now. Some of them aren’t worth it to get fixed. You’re likely going to run into issues. And don’t believe the advertising when they call their little grey machines “heavy duty”, they are not. They’re just a basic mechanical machine that will only handle heavy materials with gentle care. One small caveat, Singer has started selling *some* machines through sewing machine dealerships only again. Those machines are supposed to be of a little bit higher quality again. Though they haven’t been out long enough yet to see how they’re actually performing in real life situations yet. So just be wary and realize that Singer machines are known to have many issues.

There are some brands that I can’t say much about as we (where I work) do not regularly see them, nor do we sell them. Which does lead to certain bias against those brands.

If you are looking for a decent affordable brand, Brother is probably one of the safer brands. They come out of the same factories as Baby Lock does. So while my store doesn’t deal in Brother, we do in Baby Lock. And I do Like Baby Lock. They have wonderful embroidery machines and they’re much more quiet while embroidering than a Pfaff or Husqvarna machine. Both brands I would consider good. (Also machines that I’m actually familiar with, as we sell them. We also sell Bernina and Janome, which would also fit into that category.)

So the brands I do know as we sell them where I work is Bernina, Pfaff, Husqvarna, Baby Lock, Janome and Singer (though there’s a grand total of 3 machines in that brand). I do have personal opinions on all 6 of those brands. Though at work we’re supposed to try and stay impartial. Though none of us are. All of the first 5 have their good points to them. (Speaking mostly about computerized machines.) Bernina is among the most expensive and among the most difficult/different to use. I also find that Husqvarna and Pfaff can be a bit difficult to get a handle of, but are decently priced relatively speaking. Janome is easier to use, most geared to quilting, and in my personal opinion expensive in comparison to what you can get in features on other brands. Baby Lock to me seems to be the most intuitive to use if you’re familiar with computers at all, easy to navigate, and has one of the best needle threaders, and again decently priced.

(I do own a Baby Lock, though I would own a Pfaff as well. Mostly because I’ve sewn the most on Pfaff machines. It’s what I’ve learned on and use at work.)

Well, it’s starting to get late and as much as I could continue the debate of the pros and cons of each machine brand. I DO still have to GO to work tomorrow. So I will leave that for another time.

This kind of spiraled from my original rant, but what have you. I don’t expect anyone to read to the end of this unless there’s some interest in sewing machines.

I saw a post about 2022 crafting goals, so here are my crafting goals this year: - make some stuff - hopefully make the hypothetical dollhouse less hypothetical by making an actual dollhouse for the furniture, Bert the goblin, Gwen the bat, and any future dollhouse denizens to live in - finish the flannel quilt - donate more beanies and figure out what I can make to donate in the summer - learn something new in a craft and/or learn a new craft (embroidery maybe? refine my needlefelting a bit?) - bake more! I want more cookies and I want to make them - learn to make more foods (tortillas and arepas con queso turned out awesome and I want to learn to make more variations of bread) - the rest of my goals are currently unknowable but are probably some variation of “make some stuff” WAIT forgot one: - get more of my patterns in a shareable format and share them

Well the ring is associated with his (501’s) coincidence but it has Daniel engraved on it which is an angrezi version of Daniyal 🙄 my fiancé

I’ll be sharing all the details along with the wedding band over here…

But at the same time I wanted something more graceful and not minimalistic like most coming of age love bands… I have a really expensive taste & here are my top 3 favourite Jewelry brands:

1. Cartier

2. Bvlgari

3. CHANEL

I specifically love Cartier’s traditional range not the minimalistic modern stuff… and Bvlgari is great for the latter, I don’t think anyone does it better than them, however I am extremely fond of the Serpents… that collection is inspired by Medusa, isn’t it lovely to have a diamond crusted snake draped around your neck or wrist? I remember I had taken a snake ring (when I was 16) from Accessorize because it reminded me of Bvlgari… Chanel is a bit more feminine because of their Camellia flowers and quilted pattern but their Jewelry is worth all the hype, it is very exquisite

These sleek minimalistic love bands are from Bvlgari but you know what? Even if I could afford this brand I would’ve taken those serpents from here not the wedding bands because they are far too modern for my taste…

I love these type of rings, the classic ones…

I believe instead of investing in gold as an asset, one can simply buy something of their choice and save the rest of the money in a fixed deposit because the only way you can incur it’s value is by selling it away and let’s say if it is something you hold dear to your heart like if it’s a promise band or a birthday present then I’m sure you wouldn’t want to sell it. Secondly I did some research and I have shared all the pros & cons of Gold vs Gold plated jewelry, for smaller occasions and broke Millennials or Gen Z, Gold plated jewelry wouldn’t be such a bad idea… (I belong to Gen Z because it starts from 1995 but I still feel like an old soul and I am literally like all those who claim they have a generation gap in their own generation) Brands like Zara, H&M & Mango have all started making 18-24 karat gold plated accessories which range between 2200-3000/- I do have a signet ring from Zara which is 24 karat gold plated and I had taken it from sale for 1500/- the colour is very rich and it has a lot of lustre which shows that it is actually wrapped in pure gold

Here are the pros and cons:

1. Gold plated items are far more durable than solid gold because they are made using metals like nickel, zinc, steel & alloy whereas gold, in it’s purest form is too soft to be wired or moulded so it is mixed with alloy and the higher the karat, the more delicate it is… you’ll have to prevent it from bending.

2. The plating can wear off which is like a major con of gold plated jewelry and this is exactly why they do a double plating in some brands but you’ll have to avoid getting it wet or using moisturisers, perfumes, scented items/all other chemicals… and in rare scenarios if you are using wool ties like me, to make your ring tighter then you’ll have to take it off after every wear because it can tarnish the plating. Solid gold jewellery can also get tarnished and have dents, scratches, blackening etc. but you can get it fixed at your local jeweller and they don’t wear off like gold plated items obviously but you’ll have to save them from soap & water because it can cause the gold to fade away which will lighten up over a period of time, so no soap + water.

3. Since gold is usually mixed with alloy for adding more firmness, inspite of being the least reactive of all metals, it can get oxidised or even show signs of rusting if you’ll regularly wear it in water… because it’s the alloy and all other metals that can rust and surface a little bit of discolouration on the top, on the other hand gold plated jewelry will also wear off with water. However, in today’s times, you do get a lot of nickel free, lead free, hypoallergenic & anti-rust stainless steel options in gold plated jewelry which is great for everyday use. The latter can have the look of gunmetal steel jewellery even with the gold plating on top but who looks that closely?

Coming back to my wedding band… umm in my country you don’t wear wedding bands while exchanging vows but I still got this because I love them, I had no idea that they were comparing Cartier with the brand which I got haha it was like a lovely coincidence

Cartier is on the left with a small diamond stud in the centre, DW is on the right… it does have Bvlgari’s minimalistic touch along with a little bit of softness (like all those regular wedding bands) because of the curved edges, it’s very delicate and beautiful, I was not able to click proper images on my phone but I tried my best.

It looks slightly similar to the Bvlgari rings (in the above images) but it’s somewhere in between that and Cartier, the edges are relatively more soft & curved so it has the minimalism & sleekness of Bvlgari but at the same time, it also looks a lot like those classic wedding bands, it has a vintage touch especially their gold edition which was already running out. I was again very particular about getting it in gold instead of rose gold… but rose gold is equally beautiful, it just depends if you want something more classy and vintage or modern. They do offer a small size like 48, the exact diameter/circumference of my ring finger is 45 mm & this one’s precisely 47 so as guessed it was still slipping out but it got stuck in the middle finger of my right hand because as girls even our fingers bloat when we PMS, it fits me in the mid finger on my left hand though :/which is a little skinnier than the right one, unfortunately it doesn’t fit the ring finger even on the right one (it’s too loose in my ring fingers) It looks big in the images and you can’t make out the actual shade. I have taken it in gold, it also comes in rose gold and silver. The colour looks really light in my images but it’s a beautiful shade of gold
