When people think/write about adult quirkless deku AU where he never got ofo and never became a hero, that he'd be all rage filled and hate bakugo still.

But I feel there's a lot of missed opportunities where he's not rage-filled and hateful but just awkward and weirded out by the whole situation.

Like imagine you're Izuku, you are now a grown ass man, you are completely over Middle School and all of the events that transpired there, you don't really care about Katsuki.

But the problem is you see his face everywhere. Taking the bus to work? Bam! Childhood bully on a billboard. Trying to watch a YouTube video? Bam! Unskippable ad of your childhood bully trying to sell you cookware.

You go on a hero forum to nerd out and you see a couple posts talking about how "Hot hero Dynamite is", and you just have to remember that this is the same guy who, when you were five, you were at a sleepover together and he peed the bed and you had to help him hide the evidence and agree to never speak of it again.

The whole situation is just so unbelievably awkward. And gods forbid you ever try to talk to anyone about heroes irl.

You start talking about heroes but then they bring up Dynamite and you have to try to change the conversation to a different hero without them getting suspicious. You're doomed if you get into a conversation with someone you find out to be a super fan of his. Or worse, you call him "Kacchan" out of habit and then they look at you weird.

And you're not just going to go around telling people that you grew up with him. Cuz either they don't believe you or they just think you're weird and still salty about your childhood.

You really don't care about him anymore! You just wish he would stop popping up in your life.

There's a lot of discourse around the "being quirkless is a disability statement" and while it's not completely right, I don't think it's completely wrong either.

Being quirkless isn't a disability, realistically. But the problem in mha is that it is essentially equivalent to having a disability by their perspective. That's because of how reliant the world is on quirks. Everyone depends on their/other's quirks to function and survive, so not having a quirk essentially means you're "lacking a significant part" like how most disabilities are perceived as. The abuse Izuku experienced from being quirkless is completely rooted in abelism.

Which is where the argument falters, because I don't think enough people realize that something may be treated as a disability in a world where everything is advanced, while it's not treated as a disability in a world without the same advancements. Remember that abelism has many forms

The Good Citizen

An AU where Izuku is just an ordinary boy. He never meets All Might and has his application for Yuuei's entrance exam rejected because of his quirkless status. He still wants to be a hero, but then again, he's just a normal kid with a mom who works two jobs, and since he failed to get into his dream school, he still has to get into another one, he doesn't have time. to go to the gym or learn to fight, or whatever. And yet, he wants to be a hero, so he grabs a pair of old skates and a stick. And he sneaks out the window at night, intending to be a vigilante.

But like a normal boy, he's a bit of a coward, so when he encounters his first crime, instead of getting involved, he calls the police. He calls the police and hides and is delighted when a police car arrives a few minutes later and does its job. And then he repeats that, goes out, finds a crime and calls the police. And repeat. And the next time, he identifies himself as "Good Citizen" when the person on the line recognizes his voice. And the name sticks. And Izuku keeps it, thinking of it as a way to keep his identity safe. But one day, 'The Good Citizen' calls the police on a group of men beating up a guy. And next he stops a man from harassing a girl.

The mens who beat the guy are part of a powerfull gang and their high-rankers discovers that the person who reported them was the same person who has been making several reports. The old man who harassed the girl was an important member of the HPSC, whose arrest creates a huge scandal

With this he successfully angers the villains and the HPSC all at once. Next week there's a bounty on 'snitch's head. And an arrest warrant for the vigilante who is 'an enemy in the making for the society of heroes'.

Then a race begins, villains and heroes mobilizing to kill/arrest one (1) well-intentioned green bean.

And, out of nowhere, this all becomes Aizawa Fucking Shota's problem.

knowing the spoiler led me do knowing more spoilers which i don't mind... and i'm half conviced afo is deku's father and that's not even what the spoilers are about... literally a fanfic led me to believing this concept and then the writer was like "yeah, i don't really believe this theory," all while managing to convince me... ugh, i just REALLY don't want it to be true, but afo is insaneeee like he totally would steal his own kid's quirk if given the opportunity... but also he believes in sibling supremacy and izu is an only child! so there is still hope, but also even if afo isn't his bio donor, it's still possible he took his quirk somehow... but i really like the idea of deku being quirkless naturally, sometimes were born different and that's okay

Complicated Creation by Elemental

Anyone who hasn't read this, probably should immediately. I re-read this around four times a year, so I've lost track of the amount of times I've re-read it in total.

Truly visionary ideas about quirks, that creates a brilliant new perspective on evolution and society within BNHA. This is an AU, the story does not follow the plot of BNHA.

Pacing, story, and character development is creative and extremely well-written. I love the dynamic between Izuku and Aizawa.

As usual when I absolutely adore a fic, I wish there was a sequel or something, but this was beautifully well crafted, so the story does conclude nicely.

QUIRKLESS IZUKU AU

yeah, idfk lol. thought of this the other day, can't stop thinking about it. but an mha au where deku is still quirkless and doesn't go to ua, but he and bakugou made up n whatnot.

they talk on the regular now, but nobody in 1a really knows about deku. bakugous never really said anything about him because nobody's asked.

but dekus a lil creepy here, and by that i mean he literally stalks bakugou. bakugous fully aware of it too, and doesn't mind it at all. he calls it fanboy behavior directly to dekus face and says he thinks it's hilarious.

but since 1a don't know about deku, issues happen. anytime bakugou is out with 1a (or alone), deku is there. he is following and watching just bakugou for the most part. deku knows who everybody in 1a is as he watched the sports festival video multiple times, and bakugou will rant about the class to deku sometimes.

but since the class don't know about deku, they get extremely creeped out by seeing him literally everywhere they go. at first they think he's a general stalker for the entire class or something, but they soon realize that deku is ONLY around when bakugou is there. so they dub deku "bakugous creepy stalker".

they eventually try to shield bakugou away from deku anytime they seem him lingering around, but bakugou always moves away from them so deku can have a clear view of him.

deku manages to get his way onto ua property (he's a master of breaking & entering or smth, idk-) and he already knows what dorm room belongs to bakugou. he manages to get up to bakugous balcony and climbs in through the door, but he's spotted climbing to bakugous room by another classmate.

that classmate would go and tell everybody else that bakugous creepy stalker somehow got in, and a bunch of them would race to bakugous room while others went to get aizawa. when they get to bakugous room, they barge in to find bakugou and deku chatting normally.

maybe they are doing smth together, deku painting bakugous nails black, deku writing things down that bakugou says into his notebook, or just something.

they'd be extremely confused, and bakugou would be furious that they barged into his room without warning. they'd express they were worried for bakugou, saying how creepy and suspicious deku was.

bakugou would get pissed off and tell them to leave his friend alone, and eventually some things would click into place for everybody. but they'd still be weirded out by how deku always knew where to find bakugou snd why he followed them around instead of joining them.

bakugou would mention that he's known the entire time that deku follows them around and that there's nothing wrong with it, and he'd have to give a LONG explanation to aizawa once he got there.

it's that time during my yearly mha obsession that I attempt to redesign the girls.

Uraraka's isn't horrible, I just think the astronaut theme could've been executed better. And the more I look at the heel boots the more they weird me out. Plus, her belt plus pink strip gives underwear vibes.

Loose pants, chonky space boots. That's all I wanted. This is like a first suit versus updated suit thing.

Momo's is the fucking worst of course. The cape she gets later on is the only good part of her suit. I'd be find with her having heels, but not three inches or whatever's going on here. Two max for being out in the field.

I meant to give her a bit more heel but forgot. Anyway, her thighs, stomach, and back are exposed since they're bigger areas of fat and parts of her arms are also exposed since I kind of imagine her pulling out stuff by reaching over as it's created. Again, a first suit next to a later update one. I gave her a mask later...I guess cause Midnight has one, idk.

The more I look at Mina's the less I dislike it. It's not bad, but once I saw that in the manga her pattern was meant to resemble poisonous frogs I got a bit disappointed in the first one again. Plus, for a hero named Pinky there's a lack of pink in her suit. I know SHE'S pink, but if you're gonna make it your name then put it in the suit!

I'm not super happy with either of these, but I think I got my point across with the first one. Pink and poison pattern! The one on the right was just a fun experiment, maybe one of her dance outfits or something i dunno.

This isn't a redesign edit this is me trying to figure out how I want my fanfic quirkless midoriya to look. His hero suit is honestly really good and I couldn't think of what I wanted to change, so I just adjusted the mask to more clearly have a smile and gave him a knife. The second has Hatsume Mei's grappling gear so that he can sort of Spider-Man around, metal on his shoes for kicking, and a bit of jetpack power on his shoes so that he can cushion his landings, give his jumps a boost, and maybe move around similar to Gran Torino. I'm not sure if I'll keep the clunky hip grapples since he has them on his wrists, but I drew it just in case.

also I just drew ON TOP of their official designs since they're just meant to be quick idea sketches, so I'm not going to claim this as completely original art, but these are my edits so just keep that in mind.

When izuku is diagnosed quirkless his mum signs him up to martial arts, parkour, and ballet classes so that he can defend himself.

Idea for MHA, the government or secret service? Have a school specifically for the quirkless. They train them to be influential people, specialising in what they are good at. e.g. tech, politics, army, analyst, doctor, hitman, entertainer...

They also make them "quirks", going on something they are good at. When they enter adulthood they help influence the people around them to help the general masses.

This could be the only reason society still functions?

Nedzu is in on it, and there is a class at UA that teaches some of the quirkless.

Maybe Midoriya fell through the cracks of this system, and the "secret service" first found him after the slime villain?

Maybe Present Mic is quirkless and he lost his voice when he was younger, so the "secret service" gave him a new voice with experimental tech and the reason he can't control it well is because it malfunctions?

I'm back with more BNHA fic recs, I have read hundreds of Quirkless Vigilante Izuku fics and well, I enjoyed a lot of them. In fact, my first fic posted to AO3 was a quirkless vigilante Izuku one shot. So, today, I present fics in which Izuku is a quirkless vigilante and interacts with Aizawa Shouta. Izuku thought what happened on his last grocery trip was a one-off occurrence. Hint: it wasn't. Accidental vigilante Izuku! I love how he falls into vigilantism in this fic and all the lives he touches (and baffles). It's really sweet and he comes off so kind here!

open hand, closed fist by achievingelysium

After a month of chasing Knockout around corners and across rooftops, Shouta finding the vigilante bleeding on his doorstep is the last thing he expects. Our boy bites off a bit more than he can chew! I love his relationship with Aizawa in this fic and how Aizawa gained his trust. They are both so caring.

Izuku is a vigilante, Aizawa likes cats and therefore kids who help cats, and sometimes breaks must be forced upon overachieving teenagers. This one gets a special shout out for its worldbuilding!
