Since finishing Fellowship I keep seeing references to LOTR as a sweeping heroic tale etc and this is now confusing to me, both in terms of story structure (hero tale or Romance; immram or exile tale) and the level of fantasy. The thing I’m learning about the art of writing swords and sorcery is that — to me, personally! And I get that this sounds bonkers! — Tolkien mostly feels like low fantasy. He just made the magic that was already there real. To the point where it takes a long time to even notice when people are doing magic, and whether it’s magic is sometimes debatable. Sam even complains about this briefly in Lorien (that the Elf magic isn’t dramatic) which is funny bc he’s utterly surrounded by small magics the whole time. Hell, in a story that stresses the power of words, quite literally to protect, I think that in of the fellowship plus Bilbo, only Aragorn, Bilbo, Legolas [edited to add Legolas sorry for forgetting u my guy], and Sam have actually composed their own poems and songs. And most of Aragorn and all of Legolas’s was Boromir’s funeral song.

I’m mostly asleep and have effectively only read Fellowship so far but idk! My point is that it doesn’t feel like it’s so influenced by the structure of later high medieval and onwards hero stories all that much. WAS Tolkien influenced by French Romances and Shakespeare and modern novels like oh absolutely! But lotr isn’t the Green Night or even Melusine, and it is only Macbeth for special occasions.

I know it’s considered a model hero’s journey or whatever but in-universe (and again, maybe just to me!) it’s not? it’s an exile story. Like The Wanderer or Erik the Red or Deor. Frodo et al say it at the beginning a bunch of times: the hobbits have exiled themselves. Gollum we’re told was exiled by his matriarch long ago and has lived as an exile ever since. Where I am at the beginning of Two Towers, Aragorn just saw the mountains that hide Gondor to the south and sang to them because he cannot yet go home. And there are a lot of those exile stories to draw on, in the time period and languages from which Tolkien was drinking deepest. Exile was a legal state and also a favourite story-frame.

Let’s talk dates: obey me! brothers+ Solomon and their dates for you

Super hyped to do this, and thank you for all the love on my previous posts! Everyone is very much appreciated 🥹 like I said tell me if you have any requests, and I’ll get to them!

This post is quite fluffy, with a few kisses here and there. I hope you enjoy!

Lucifer

A dinner at a fancy restaurant

Specifically Restaurante six

Will plan his date at least two months in advance for two reasons:

1. He has a specific seat in said restaurant that is his very favourite, which is why he will make sure to get it for his favourite human

You deserve only the best, and he won’t settle for anything less

2. He makes sure his brothers know in advance so that they don’t destroy his date night with their antics

So on date night everyone is on their best behaviour

On the night of the date he will pick you up punctually

He’ll link his arm with yours and takes you to said restaurant

Will let you order a super fancy meal

You can literally get anything you want

After the eating he’ll take you on a romantic walk

Fingers intertwined and all that cute stuff

Then he pulls out a small box “will you marry me?”

No not that, he’ll take out a small necklace with a beautiful gemstone in the centre

Will put it around your neck all romantic; letting his fingers trace your skin while hooking the necklace

“Wow it looks beautiful on you.”

Mammon

A very cute beach date

His dates are usually pretty spontaneous:

“Babe let’s go to the beach!” On the most random days

You guys drive there with his car, listening to your favourite songs, screaming your lungs out with the windows down

Once you get there you go into the changing rooms, change and then notice how hot you guys look

Cue make out session in the changing room

On the beach you guys do various different things; swimming, playing in the water, sun bathing, making out etc

Will have a competition to see who can build the bigger and better sandcastle

Will buy you an ice cream if you ask

For dinner he lays a picnic blanket on the sand and brings out his „famous“ cheese sandwiches!

you guys watch the sunset while holding hands

At the end of the day you guys get in the shower together, washing off the sand from each other’s backs

He will give you his jacket to wear once you guys finish showering

Drives you home, with a hand on your thigh

Talking about life while the stars twinkle in the night

Leviathan

He takes you to an aquarium! The biggest one in the whole devildom!

He’ll ask you if you wanna go a few days prior

But he’s been preparing for months

He practiced how to ask, what to say on dates, where to bring you, literally EVERYTHING

He wants only the best for you damnit 😭

When you say yes he was absolutely ecstatic!

Wait you said yes?!?

Cue more planing and stressing

Asks his online friends how he should go on about it in the most optimal way possible

On the day of the date he’s a nervous wreck

Fussing with his shirt, refusing to make eye contact and a few very short yet fast sentences

He just needed a bit of time to relax

So once he gets to the aquarium he relaxes

Besides the ocean is his natural element, so he feels most confident around sealife

He tells you a few things about the fishes you see

The conversation is light and easygoing, doesn’t feel forced and everything you guys say comes out naturally

Very soothing if you ask me

If he feels especially confident he’ll hold your hand with red cheeks

Will point at pretty fishes saying: this one is you

When you go to the bathroom he converses with the fishes asking for pointers

Will buy you matching keychains

Once you have seen enough fishes for a day he walks you home

Gives you a quick kiss on the cheek as goodbye

Satan

Plans this date a week prior and asks you two days beforehand

Brings you flowers like a gentleman

A lovely two-part date: first he takes you to one of those places where you can make your own teacups

While making the cup he completely fails

Sure he’s read about it and how you do it but when they give him the clay he literally goes; wtf why is it so sticky and doughy

Tries to make it look good but.. well

He applauds you for being able to do it so well

A surprisingly good sport about not having the most pinterest worthy cup

Just uses his inability as an excuse to go on another make-your-own-teapot date with you

The painting was a whole lot smoother than the making of the cup

That being said it still wasn’t extraordinary

When you finish he lets out a small laugh at his cup

For Lunch he takes you to a cute cafe

Let’s you pick anything you want

He even lets you eat off of his plate

Which is good because his food always looks better than yours…

While going home you WILL come across a cute kitty

And he will start petting it

Gets whiny when the cat likes you more but secretly finds it utterly adorable

At the end of the date you two exchange cups

His cup is on your shelf, and yours is on his

Asmodeus

Takes you to a lovely botanical garden!

Asks you a day or so prior

You guys get ready together; matching outfits are a MUST

First you guys get Lunch at a super popular cafe. Then you go to the gardens!

The gardens are absolutely beautiful! He takes lots of pictures of you the plants

Butterflies always land on his hair and make him look like a disney princess

Sadly bees like him too, so count on lots of squeals of happiness and fear

Points at two flowers growing next to each other and names them after you two🥹

After that he takes you to a pandora store and gets you two matching bracelets the ones with the hearts

I hope you don’t mind paparazzi because his fans are everywhere

that totally didn’t happen because he couldn’t stop yapping about his date with you on his live

Don’t worry they won’t disturb you, actually they just take a bunch of cute photos of you two and send them to asmo

And because he has so many fans you guys get a LOT of pictures

Seriously his fans have been graced with the ability to take the most gorgeous pictures!

Not to mention you guys look so darling in every. Single. One.

Asmo saves ALL of them, literally ALL OF THEM on his phone

He has one especially cute picture of you two as his lock screen and will always look at it when he feels a little sad

Beelzebub

He‘ll take you to a fangol game

Asks you about the same time he gets the tickets, which is like a month prior to the gane

So he‘s exited about your date for the whole month!

On the day of the date you guys go there by bus

When there’s only one seat available he lets you sit on his lap, or if you don’t like pda then he‘ll just make the other demon scram 🤷‍♀️

He is one of the seven rulers of hell so theres not much the other demons can do or say

When you get there the crowd is HUGE

Beel of course gets everything you can get from the food stalls

He even shares his food with you 🫣

While watching the game he lets you sit on his shoulders because he likes having his face between your thighs so that you can have a better view

After the game he takes you to one of those restaurants where you can get a huge bowl of ice cream and whoever finishes it gets it for free

Totally didn’t get inspired from the main storyline

Will steal a kiss from you at the end of your date

Belphegor

Takes you on a super sweet carnival date

The plot twist is he takes you to one at night

I‘m to 99% sure that devildoms carnivals open at night you can not change my mind

Like they open at 7PM and go till the whee hours of 4AM

He asks you super spontaneously but planned the date like a few weeks prior

You guys walk around holding hands looking absolutely darling

If you want to go on a specific ride but the line is too long he will pull some strings to let you skip the line

Whatever ride you feel like, you can get 🥴

Is the type of person to think rollercoasters are a little slow

He‘d probably fall asleep on one of them tbh

Is amazing at those rigged carnival games

He has that crazy good aim, so always when he wins a prize he gives it to you

He loves the smile on your face when he wins

You guys share cotton candy together

Anddd he buys you those candy hearts saying some cheesy stuff like; „because you stole my heart“

When you guys go on the ferris wheel it stops when you’re at the very top

Something about „technical issues“

So you guys watch the small stars while waiting for it to start running again

He then looks at you with those; ‚I love you‘ eyes

When your eyes connect he leans in and gives you a romantic kiss, making him feel like he’s on top of the world (literally)

Solomon

He takes you on a picnic at night

At night for what reason you ask? Because he wants to take you stargazing

He asks you rather spontaneously, but plans the date a few days prior

Please get your own picnic snacks/food cause you don’t want to find out how „dragonhead soup“ tastes

He walks you there, and everything is already set up

Telescope, blanket, a few pillows, food

He lets you sit between his legs, letting you lean your head against his chest

Honestly looks at you more than he looks at the stars

„Wow they’re beautiful.“

„yeah..“

And while saying that looks at you

He plays with your hair, and tucks them behind your ear

He prolly hums small tunes while looking at you

Asks a small „can I?“ before kissing you

And of course two shooting stars go by you while you kiss🥹

Reasons to LOVE Dungeons & Dragons: Honour Among Thieves

It's brand new in cinemas, so there are still plenty who ain't seen it, so if you're among 'em best skip this and just GO SEE IT, it's SO well worth it, genuinely it's one of the best new movies I've seen so far this year. Hope you love it as much as I did!

So, yeah, there you go - SPOILER WARNING, FOLKS!!! If you don't wanna get spoiled, RUN!!!

Still here? Okay, here we go then ...

This really is, UNAPOLOGETICALLY, a comedy. I mean yeah, this is a classic fantasy action adventure in the Willow, Krull or Ladyhawke mold, but it is also very enthusiastically POKING FUN at the classic conventions of the genre ... albeit CLEARLY done with great affection and love for the material, as only the best lampoons can be. So this is more The Princess Bride or Galaxy Quest than Your Highness or Spaceballs ...

Chris Pine is ALWAYS at his best when he's being FUNNY, so he is PERFECT here. Edgin is most definitely a bit of a douchebag, but he's the sweetest, most lovable douchebag you'll ever encounter.

Holga. Literally just EVERYTHING about Holga. She's my favourite character in this, this REALLY IS the best role that Michelle Rodriguez has EVER HAD, if you ask me. She's a total badass, a truly AMAZING FIGHTER, but I love that despite her dour demeanour she's actually quite sweet, gentle and really a great innocent in many ways. She's an absolute cinammon roll and must be protected at all costs.

OH MY GODS!!! All the easter eggs, SO MANY easter eggs ... FAR too many to count throughout, all the references and nods and winks to the game itself, all the spells and races and creatures and stuff ... but I love how the movie NEVER beats you over the head pointing any of it out, it just lets you enjoy it. So the proper fans will get a huge kick out of spotting it all, but casual viewers will just enjoy it as rich worldbuilding colour and flavour.

Seriously though, it's a D&D fan's DREAM!!! Not just the mimic, or the owlbear, or the gelatinous cube! SO MUCH to spot ...

Justice Smith's Simon gets THE CLEVEREST and best introduction in the film, I love the theatre scene, he's SO BAD at this while also simulataneously being really great. Totally sums up this gloriously clunky hot mess of a sorcerer ...

the opening is GENIUS, totally sets the movie up as it means to go on - the parole hearing is a brilliant comedic take on the scene-setting infodump which is brilliantly carried through in the way the movie delivers exposition in a fun way or just lets you absorb it through what's happening in each scene. This is the perfect, TEXTBOOK way to do it.

"That is one pudgy dragon!" LOL

Doric. Just EVERYTHING about Doric. Sophia Lillis' tiefling druid is a wonderful diminutive little action hero, so fiesty and capable. I love her. It's just a shame she's not primary coloured, I'd have loved it even more if she'd been blue, or red ...

The Wildshape Escape! XD Yeah, I love that, that's THE BEST set-piece in the whole movie, definitely, when Doric gets cught out spying and has to shapeshift on the fly to get away, and it all plays out in one immersive single shot that just leaves your heart in your mouth ...

Oh, the Speak With The Dead montage, that is comedy GOLD. Funniest scene in the whole movie. And with added payoff at the end! XD

Rege-Jean Page's Xenk Yendar. Oh boy, that paladin is something else. I love how LITERAL he is, he's like Drax in GOTG but much more intelligent. Y'know when Holga says: "You're not a lot of fun, are you?" to him? She's so wrong. I just wish there was more of him in this ...

The heist! Oh, the heist! So good ... the portal trick, it's great, love the way they did that, and then that HILARIOUS bard illusion distraction - Pine skipping the song like a broken record was just chef's kiss!

That wonderful wibbly-wobbly illusory reality thing whenever Simon tries to atune to the Helm ... wow, that is some spectacularly trippy shit. Granted, twice is fine for terms of pacing, but I could've done with a few more scenes of that, it's fascinating.

Hugh Grant really has just become a MASTER at playing smarmy, slimy duplicitous gits now, hasn't he? Forge is a reprehensible prick and I love it.

I love how they made Bradley Cooper a halfling for his cameo. They're never gonna let him live down the fact that he's now probably best known for playing a two-foot-tall talking racoon so forever after he will be a Short King.

Wow, Daisy Head's Sofina is a CRACKING villain, she's just SO CREEPY!!! I love how coolly menacing she is, a brilliant dark necromantic wizard that just makes your skin crawl. Especially at the end ... IS SHE a lich? Is that what they were doing there?

That whole big action climax, the showdown in the city centre is FIRE!!! It's so amazing, so brilliantly dynamic, with EVEN MORE great easter eggs! Simon and Sofina having an insanely awesome "arm wrestling" bout with Mage Hand versus Earthen Grasp (I think that's the spell, couldn't be sure), oh my gods! So cool ... and then the way they neutralised the threat! Brilliant.

Chloe Coleman's Kira is an absolutely adorable delight, and I think she's ENTIRELY JUSTIFIED in how pissed she is at Edgin for abandoning her. It makes the payoff when they finally make up so much better.

And that resurrection scene at the end? Yeah, sure, I saw that coming a mile off, but it was so well done, and they played it so well, that it was still SUCH a powerful scene even so. Just perfect.

Seriously, they just did this whole thing SO PERFECTLY. It's visually STUNNING, really it just looks AMAZING, and the action sequences are BRILLIANT but always feel entirely necessary for the story, which is how you want to do it. Best of all, though, is THE PACING!!! This is such a quick, breezy film, it just barrels along at a spectacular clip, so it never drags. Mark Kermode is right, even though this is two and a quarter hours long it doesn't FEEL LIKE IT, it feels like a super-trim 90-minute movie.

And it ties everything off nice and neat, too. Sure, there are definitely possibilities for the future, going forward if they make more, but if the movie DOES tank then it's fine, because this really does do a great job about feeling self-contained and telling its own complete story, so if we DON'T get more it won't be too big a disappointment ...

• I feel like Trey knows how to deal with a S/O that behaves in such a way

• He has siblings and in a way that’s how they act. That means he, in a way, knows how to handle the situation, but that doesn’t mean he’s not surprised when they act like that the first time.

• He remembers that clearly, they were teasing, joking and laughing on their way to an event but how much they quieted down once there almost shocked him.

• Almost because his sibling mode kicked in. He didn’t even realise until he’d taken most of the attention off them actually

• He didn’t ask what exactly happened with them at the event but when they left and were sitting back at home he did.

• He felt happy when they were back to their usual self although the teasing did make him grin sheepishly.

• He felt even happier when he learned the true nature of that shift; the fact they felt so safe with him that they could be themselves. The teasing sure did always catch him slightly off guard though

• Expect your favourite treat the next day with a sweet note and perhaps a few extra bits of affect here and there throughout the day

Azul Ashengrotto

• On the outside you wouldn’t think Azul was all that affected by his S/O’s behaviour

• Oh how wrong you’d be because he was very much affected!!

• Not that he chose to show it mind you, but their behaviour sure threw his poor heart through a predator-filled tsunami

• Regardless of that his acting barely faltered at the event itself though he did shoot them quite a few more glances than usual, as he was actually worried they were not feeling well.

• He actually asked about half an hour to an hour into the event if they were alright due to their suddenly much cooler nature.

• They were handling tasks with others rather well but still he was worried, so it put them at ease when they said everything was alright.

• He told them to speak up should they be uncomfortable or not feeling well regardless though.

• Like Trey he also only asked once having left the event and in the privacy of his office.

• To say his heard sputtered and his cheeks grew red for long enough to be caught like that would be divulging secrets, but here we are anyway.

• He did catch himself but he now knew they felt safe with him, safe by his side.. and perhaps he’d recognise soon he feels the same way about you.

ok so i didn’t exactly write a munson type reader but i tried to make her Like eddie if that makes sense??? also this is my first piece of writing in so long so if it’s terrible just ignore that. and also ignore the ending lol

the bedside lamp on your nightstand casts a gentle glow around your bedroom. baggy jeans that have black stars on them and a striped maroon and black shirt adorn your body as you sit crisscrossed on the floor, guitar in your lap as you pluck a few notes that you’ve recently learned.

you can feel your wrists cramping and dents beginning to form in the pads of your fingers, but you’re determined to get these chords right and have them stuck in your memory like a favourite song.

there’s a knock on your bedroom door.

“come in”

the doorknob twists and opens with a squeak. you look up and to your pleasant surprise, are met with the most beautiful pair of brown eyes.

“hi” you say with a soft smile that matches the twinkling in your eyes whenever you see steve. he reciprocates. “your dad let me in. he’s a nice guy” he says, leaning his body against the doorframe, boyish hands resting in his jeans pocket shyly. “and i couldn’t wait until tomorrow to see you again” you blush at his words, the freckles on your face becoming more prominent. “you saw me earlier today”

“yeah, too long ago”

he makes his way into your bedroom, shutting the door behind him. he sits down next to you, crisscrossed with his knee resting on your leg and suddenly you feel a million, tiny butterfly wings doing their thing inside your tummy. you can smell his cologne — it’s something you can’t quite put your finger on, but it’s your own little heaven when he’s so close to you like this. intoxicating.

“you really like that guitar, huh?” steve gestures to the beautiful, all black guitar that came with a red strap to go around your neck. “i love this guitar so much,” you begin to go off on one of your little rambles. but steve doesn’t mind; he loves hearing you talk about things that your heart desires. paying attention to all the infinitesimal details. “i still can’t believe that all i told eddie was that i wanted to start learning how to play guitar, and the next think y’know, he’s giving me one of his old guitars. i almost didn’t accept because i know how much he loves his guitars but he insisted” you giggle the last part out.

“does this mean you’re gonna right a song about me sometime?” steve playfully — gently — pokes your side in a teasing manner.

it goes quiet for a moment. not an awkward silence, but one that makes you feel comfortable. you look up from your instrument only to already be met with a pair of brown doe eyes that easily put you in a trance and make your heart feel like ooey gooey goodness. steve is looking at you like you’re saturn and have tiny stars and constellations surrounding your presence. which in his case, you do. you’d always be his shining star whether you’re on stage or sitting in his lap.

“i-i was, uhm… i was already planning on it…” you stutter out, which makes steve giggle over the effect he has on you — but you don’t miss the small amount of pinkness that takes over his cheeks. god, you love his freckles and moles…. and his hair… you really wanna sit in his lap and kiss him right now. “is that so, sweetheart?” he’s bringing one hand up to move some hair behind your ear, lovingly cupping your cheek afterwards and his hand placement, god it’s so soft and warm. you only nod, nervous that a small squeak would come out instead of words.

“m-maybe… maybe i need a bit of inspiration” you mutter out slowly. “well, what kind of boyfriend would i be if i deprived you of such a thing, hm?” and he leans in and closes the small distance between you two.

It was late at night, far beyond your usual bedtime hours, and when you realised your eyelids could no longer bear the weight of a much-needed slumber, you instantly put on your headphones to fight it.

A text from Jihoon was already double-blue-ticked, saying he wouldn't be home before sunrise, which was the reason behind your nocturnal activities for the day.

It made total sense, for that's what lovers do.

The man had been sweating and spending uncountable hours in the practice room for the past few weeks.

He'd always keep you updated about his work, and whether it was hot gossip or promotion schedules, you were his place to confide in, and he kept you up to date.

"He won't be home before another hour." You said this as you cancelled the outside world's noise, including the buzzing of the midnight bugs. It was an old habit of yours to talk to yourself.

And at times like these, the kitchen seemed like an amusing place.

The handwritten, leather-covered book of recipes that your grandmother handed you lay open on the counter. Of course, figuring out her handwriting was a little too difficult, but it was about your pride as you stood confident you wouldn't burn the kitchen down as long as you followed every instruction; it was simple.

"My heart is innocent, but my body really, really wanna sin with you." You sang out loud to keep yourself company. It felt as if the song was indeed written for you as you stood in the dim light kitchen, mixing dough by now.

The more you thought about the song, the more your body ached for a particular touch.

You shook your head as if shrugging the scenarios out of your head quite literally.

Your otherwise spice-abundant life faces scarcity at times like these, but there wasn't much you could do.

Not a minute later, a pair of hands wrapped up from behind, driving your instincts to work rapidly and causing a shock, but they were calmed just as soon with the realisation, as if your skin sensed the fingerprints.

Your brain took note that he must have entered while you had no clue he did, lost in your own world and in between the deaf walls of the headphones.

The same pair of hands tightened their grip soon, tight but never too tight to cause any pain, as they found their way inside the cloth, in direct contact with your bare tummy, sending tingles down everywhere, even where they should not.

Your upper body lay back, as it was accustomed to by now, gaining more head and neck smooches. The whisker subtly dropped off your hands, and your eyes shut themselves.

Jihoon smelled like a weird mix of his juicy red fruit scent and sweat, yet it was the most comfortable smell at the moment.

"What's making you smile so much, hmm?" He whispered next to your earlobe, taking your gadget off, and you did not even know you had been smiling the entire time.

"Audio porn." You blurted out with pursed lips, unable to control the urge to break into a laugh when he moved the device close to his own ears with one hand, the other one still holding on to you, as some child of three holds onto their favourite plushie.

Jihoon let out a small chuckle; his voice was rather deep, or maybe it was the effect of the night.

"Your brain is too filthy for that face, isn't it?" He hummed again, keeping them completely aside this time, and he felt so warm yet insanely attractive, especially when your hawk eyes took notice of his veiny arms; he had been practising and working out, you see.

"Are you going to discipline me, then?" You asked, with sarcasm overflowing. You had been with him for quite a long time to know just enough to get him in the mood for certain things.

He just chuckled again, indicating that you should keep carrying this.

"And well, I figured." It was you who spoke again. "I needed some aid to keep me going; you return home at ungodly hours."

"There are some essential activities that couples need to carry out." You continued with your monologue, turning your body to face him and resting your hips on the kitchen slab as he just stared into your soul with his signature not-so-shy smile.

The dough mixture and the diary were forgotten about.

"Right. Groceries and taxes and-" As soon as he spoke, his words were interrupted by a longing kiss on his lips. No one could ever level with his teasing game.

Jihoon took your hands in his and placed them over his shoulders, and you took no time to fiddle with the collar of his white t-shirt.

"Hesitation and shame, you lack them both." And you could only wink at his words as he moved his buff chest closer to yours, close enough that there was little to no space left in between.

And some timings in life are not just bad but also annoying. When it starts to rain while you're out without an umbrella, when you are about to pay for your meal but forget your wallet, or when you're about to kiss and the phone rings.

You could have sworn his lips were not even millimetres away from yours, and his hands ran all over your back, lifting your shirt.

"Manager." It read.

Jihoon's passionate gaze only drifted away for a short moment before he brought it back to your eyes, silencing his phone and continuing with the unfinished business.

"You're shameless." You spoke in the middle of the kiss, pulling back to catch up on your breath.

"You're just as shameless." He cooed.

"Even more."

but he heard the music start playing, and suddenly everything went silent as you emerged from the large double doors at the end of the walkway. his eyes finally got to meet yours as he had been waiting for since eight last night. you looked beautiful, there was no denying it. nor was there anyway in hell his eyes were coming off of yours.

you grinned at him in response, walking up as you felt all eyes on you, but that didn't matter at this moment. because the love of your life was waiting for you at the end of this excruciatingly long walk. and you were excited. chuuya was behind you, throwing petals rather aggressively while mumbling things under his breath.

his hands gripped yours hastily as you reached the alter, the cold metal of your promise ring against his hands as kunikida began speaking,

"kenji, can i have the rings?" and on cue, kenji brought the rings to him, the both of you putting them on eachother as you smiled ear-to-ear.

(idk how weddings go so i'm skipping to the vows.)

"i will love you until the day i die, [f/n]. i have since the day i met you, and i will until i take my last breath." he spoke softly, "now, will you join me in a double suicide?" you could only smack him in response.

when you stood in front of him, he finally felt happy and at peace. the way yours eyes shimmered, the way you smiled at the site of him had him melting. you had him wrapped around your finger and both of you were aware of it. but he loved every second of it.

when everything began, he accidentally let out a tear. he was just so happy that he could finally call you his. he had dreamt of marrying you for over a year, and now, that dream became a reality.

the red lights around the place dimmed slightly as you began reading out your vows. the ones you'd spent three and a half weeks writing. but how was he supposed to focus when you looked this good infront of him?

when it was his turn, he said-

"fuck it, just marry us already."

but he told you his when you got home.

she finds it a bit funny how you tend to deny how big of a fan you are, and if it were up to her, she’d gladly give you the title of number one fan.

one day, however, she doesn’t expect to hear you singing passion at 25:00 in your bedroom when she comes over for her weekly visit.

she stands there, mouth agape; your voice is beautiful, and your singing no less. you manage to hit every note with no issue, how come you’ve never sung for her before? she’d love to hear more.

when you find out she’s been standing there the entire time, your face flushes red and you pretend nothing was happening. she finds it adorable. <3

she can’t quite explain it, but mafuyu feels a certain warmth in her chest whenever you talk about how much you love nightcord, especially when you talk about how the lyrics of each song resonate with you.

ena can’t help but feel a bit proud of herself whenever you gush about nightcord — especially when you mention the artwork of each music video. that’s her art you’re praising; she wishes you knew that you were dating the illustrator.

she always asks why you deny it, and you respond with “i’m not denying anything!” which always makes her giggle.

nothing can stop her from being shocked, happy, and head over heels all at the same time, when she finds you in your bedroom singing i am rain, though.

it was a relatively new song from her group, and the fact that you already know each lyric by heart? could she be more in love?

she laughs as you realize she had been there the whole time, a lovestruck grin on her face as she enters your room.

# mizuki.

mizuki loves when you talk about nightcord! they can’t help but feel giddy whenever you mention the music videos, and how well they’re edited. that’s their work! and! you’re praising it!

they don’t question you when you deny your love for nightcord, only smiling as you continue to gush about it.

though, they’re absolutely awestruck by you, when they find you singing kimi no yoru wo kure in your room.

they feel like crying; you’re singing beautifully, and a song that’s dear to their heart, too. just when i thought i couldn’t love them more. they think to themselves.

giggling when you realize they’ve been there the whole time, they give you a hug; beyond grateful that you’re in their life.

Since it’s Turning Red’s 2 year anniversary, I decided to do some headcanons on Devon.

When I watched the movie at the cinema, I somehow found Devon to be a boring character, well, not boring I mean he did have something to do with the story but he’s just boring, he’s not interesting and is quite forgettable.

Dw though, he’s in Unfiltered so here are my headcanons for the fanfiction to make him more relevant!

. As seen in the 10th Chapter, he is the younger cousin of Jesse and is the complete opposite of him (in other words, his emo phase was coming)

. Aside from being stroppy and a bit moody, he cares so much for his cousin and is willing to protect him, he also is helpful around others as well.

.He’s also very dense.

. His favourite song is Wonderwall, he plays it daily.

.The reason why he worked at the Daisy Mart was because it was actually a part time job since he was still a school student at the time.

. He works at the mart on Mondays and Fridays.

.He is a sucker for circles, like he is obsessed with that shape!

.His bedroom ceiling has circle stickers all over the place.

. He has autism (that’s a literal fact!)

. He gets scared over the smallest things, like spiders and even getting an electric shock.

. He first knew about 4Town when he first heard “Girl, I Love Your Jeans” on the radio, he didn’t know it was his cousin at first.

. One of his favourite activities is horse riding.

.After the whole drawing situation, he was shocked at first but then he seemed impressed with Mei’s drawing skills and almost felt bad for her.

. On the day of the concert, he was told “No” by one of his parents due to his job shift, but he eventually ended up taking a day off just to attend the tour.

. Out of all the characters, he has the most questionable clothing choices, he wears black with almost everything.

.He originally had blonde hair but dyed it brown cuz why not.

what's the right word?

my first kpop group was snsd when they first released gee back in 2009/2010 and i was 9/10.

i've been stuck in this hole of 'kpop' since. i turn 24 in april. thats more than half my life.

growing up in a conservative asian family and the elder daughter of two teachers, it's not easy to explain the grievances and troubles i feel like i've experienced. some might not even consider it a terrible thing. yes, i've had a good standard of education and had parents who took care of me but sometimes the challenge was truly connecting with people and finding an emotional support.

nobody else can replicate and/or understand the true depth of the love, admiration, inspiration and reliance a fan has on her favourite idols/groups. throughout the years, i've gone through the eras. going from the snsd/shinee/suju era, and then into the bts/exo/vixx/bap era, and then blackpink/red velvet/wanna one/nct and then i feel like my life had a significant trajectory in the 2019-2020 period because i started dancing.

after having spent a decade being so invested in the idol culture of perfecting every single performance, pushing past boundaries and the idea of 'not being enough' being the exact source of motivation, perhaps picking up cover-dancing wasn't the best idea. especially when i come in a package with a bunch of baggage, anxiety, stress, and other perfectionist ideals.

throughout the years before 2019/2020, my reliance on my kpop idols was emotional. i wrote letters to them like they were my best friends, wished them the best of health and that they were always enough, while wishing i was as good as they were (ironic?). to my past loves: sooyoung, donghae, minho, jonghyun, jungkook, baekhyun, kang daniel, irene, jaehyun and the other members who have helped me through alot - i owe my life to them. quite literally.

tbz and enhypen have a special place in my heart. because not only did they become the usual emotional support pillars i had all the while, they became my mentors. an actual source to learn and be better. enhypen even more, because i've covered at least 5-6 of their items.

this growth in myself and the growth i see in them was so quiet but so sudden last night as i filmed their performances. 'oh my god, i danced to this song back in 2022 and now i get to see it live?'

as a fan, i feel more emotional because not only am i a fan who enjoys their music, i feel like i had connected to them on the 'stage performer' level and though i'm still lacking in many, many ways, i owe my progress and improvement to enhypen. they push me both mentally and physically during practises and their want to surpass themselves always reminds me that love knows no boundaries. the love for the stage and the love to be the best version of yourself.

i'm quite sure there's some psychological term for it, when you rely on someone who doesn't know you exist, and that you gain energy just from this person's existence.

the story is much, much longer but i could write a whole fic about it if i wanted to.

to my strength, my (probably last) love, heeseung.

i could write a billion words about you, and it would still not be enough to share how much of my life, my success, my motivation, my strength i owe to you. the love between a fan and an idol can only go so far, but i promise it will be forever.

i have a knack for choosing the members who seem to be the 'ace' of the group, but you are so unapologetically open about being a perfectionist. that's just my opinion. you know you want to be at your best, and you strive so hard to get there, sometimes i almost feel sad that you think you're not yet perfect. but then again, that's the very thing that makes me look up to you.

saw you for the first time and probably the last time last night. thank you for reigniting this want to surpass myself in every way possible. thank you for reminding me that lacking is the only way up.

Wanted to do a list of some of my favourite fics across fandoms so here it is! En Enceladus’s favs (as of April 2024). This was actually going to just be my most recent ones but i ended up going through all the recs in my bookmarks, so, these are sorted into fandom to make it easier for you.

DC Fics:

Tractors by @lieu42

DC firstly lieu42 is cool af, so note that down. If you in a mood for time travel and Tim Drake having a crisis then this is definitely for you. I love it so much I bound a physical copy. actually just read everything by him, you will not regret it.

New Wave by @yellowocaballero

DC What if Steph was the first Robin? You should know I love Steph and this is probably the fic that cemented that, I really love how she is portrayed and the 90s skater aesthetic. this fic and tractors are probably my top two recs so go read them now please and thank you

Frequency by @cryptocism

DC, Teen I truly don't know how to sum this up. Basically Thaddeus Thawn "disappears" so CRAYDL activates clones of him. It's so so good and only got one more chapter until it is complete! Also the song November by Sparkbird fits one of the characters (Six) so so well.

Zugzwang by Hinn_Raven

DC, Teen Steph is dead so why is the new talon that Cass is seeing around strangely familiar?

The Juniper Suite by @shhhenanigans

DC, Teen, M, and E (currently 4 parts, first is T and last is E) Genuanly can't describe this one. It's jayroy, with this twisted fairytale body horror theme. so big warnings for body horror, I really love how the author writes all of it and plays with tense and imagery.

Time (to protect you) by Blueseabird2

DC, Teen Dick Grayson and Constantine go back in time to try and save everyone. It's mostly cute batfamily fanon with angst, it was my first DC fic I read (with the exception of Dark Matter) so has a special place in my heart (also the reason I have read so much Hellblazer)

Marvel/MCU Fics:

Pigeon and Crow by @deniigi

Marvel, Teen Peter Parker and Johnny Storm become friends. Deniigi always has beautiful writing and this is no exception. Personally love the wordplay.

Peter Parker's Tapeworm by Ginevra_Benci

MCU, Teen Firstly, the tapeworm is a metaphor. This one is what if the spell at the end of nwh failed and even Peter forgot he was Spider-man. Its really good, especially how the memory loss and displacement is written.

The Lost and Forgotten by @litcraz

MCU, Teen believe it or not, this one was written before nwh, litcraz just fully predicted it. Peter has to make a very bad deal and everyone forgets he exists, but he keeps ending up back in the Avengers path.

Star Wars Fics:

hope has bloody knuckles by @independent-variables

SW, Teen Legally required to star the SW section of this with two independent-variables fic, their writing is so much to me (I literally binged all 4 pages of their star wars fics on ao3). This one is about after the Clone Wars, Davijaan moves to Pantora with Cody to heal after the war. He reunites with a civilian he met once and slowly falls in love. Examines person hood, healing, love, and siblings. (oh and the authors settings in Pantora are inspired by Alaska and are so freaking beautiful)

sing back to the red bird, soldier by @independent-variables

SW, Teen I was hard-pressed to make a choice of just one more from this author, but since I can't list all of them here is another favourite. It's about Rex discovering what it means to be free, and have a choice beyond brainwashing, and then offering freedom to all his brothers. It uses elements of Tatooine slave culture by @fialleril, which is all just so beautiful, so definitely check out them as well!

Dielectric Breakdown by @jessepinwheel

SW, Teen Quite likely the first clone wars fic I read? I love a good mystery and this fic has that with a very fulfilling ending. Obi-Wan kills the Chancellor and goes into hiding toward the end of the war. Five years later he's presumed dead but Cody doesn't believe that and wants to know why he betrayed everyone.

Message Traffic by @skitzofreak

SW, G and Teen This is a must read for anyone. It's all written as correspondence, transcripts, and droid logs, as a post rogue one fix-it. It's actually amazing how much the story makes you invested while you are very clearly behind a fourth wall. I adore it so much.

floating, sinking by shuofthewind

SW, not-rated another everyone survives rogue one fix-it. I just really love rogue one and seeing all the characters get more. Also the perspective switches are really really good.

False Dichotomy by nsmorig (@far-sector)

SW, M One that was recommended to me (by independent-variables). Its dark and has body horror so I loved it. The way Cody is written from both his own perspective and others is in such a way that you can really understand who he is. Truly one of the Cody fics. There is also a sequel that's a wip and is also amazing (I'm still thinking about it).

Bucket of Bolts by @independent-variables

SW, G haha, I lied. have another inderpendent-variables fic. This one looks at Ahsoka and Rex in-between the end of tcw and start of rebels. I love them and whatever it is they have going on.

All Their Tomorrows by @breakfastteatime

SW: Jedi Fallen Order, Teen Horror!!! The Mantis crew find an abandoned ship floating in space and its super creepy and leads them to investigating a dark faction of force sensitives.

Talk Me Home by @comebacknow

The Maze Runner, Mature I love tmr so much, never not thinking about it. This beautiful work covers the six months in-between the end of the scorch trials (movie) and the death cure (movie). I've read it multiple times, it expands on both the characters and world building so much.

The Maze Runner, Mature I've been following this fic since it was only a couple chapters, its really brilliant. Lots of time travel shit and trauma and seeing Thomas through everyone else's eyes. I would also recommend going through a few of this authors other works as well if you enjoy!

Once & Future by spqr

The Witcher, Mature If you haven't read anything by spqr, congrats, you're missing out. This one is a kind of sleeping beauty au, where Geralt is a statue and Jaskier accidentally wakes him up. They then have to go on a quest to save everyone Geralt holds dear.

Silver and Copper by Heronfem

The Witcher, Mature I love this cause, horror. It gets pretty dark, please mind the tags is horror is not your forte. Jaskier is cursed so a witcher is hired to save him.

Vanishing Act by nockout

Harry Potter, Mature This is probably the only time I'll recommend a harry potter fic, but it's truly worth it. This is a noir detectivy thing that starts by being spread over two different points in time that slowly meet. I have no clue how the author keeps all the plotlines together cause, wow. It also follows an original character which I really love. I'm a few chapters behind that latest update so am feeling like a reread is in order.

PJO, Teen ending with some fluff. This is just percabeth getting a break from everything and being teenagers for an evening. it's so special to me

🦴- Boy howdy is there a piece of media that inspires my writing haha. I have quite a few that it's hard to put name to them all. Whenever I read a book or watch a movie/show I always feel like I take something away from them in order to incorporate into my own writing, but if I were to choose a few specific pieces of media that really inspire my writing, it would be Hannibal, what with the beautiful imagery and the way it is almost poetic in its brutality. I think the writers of the show did a really good job, and I just absolutely adore it. True Detective (season one) is also a piece of media that REALLY influences my writing. I adore the gothic vibes, and I love the way they make the characters human, realistic, with lots of flaws, instead of making them into heroes, and I am just in love with the very synesthetic feeling it gives, I myself am synesthetic and I think it really resonated with me in a way, and gave me a lot of inspiration as in how to describe scenes and emotions. Catch-22, both the book, film, and tv show, have all inspired my idea of Bucky in the war, and I have a few songs including Achilles Come Down by Gang of Youths, О как хотела мама by Shortparis, Две недели by Aigel, and O, Children by Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, that heavily inspire a lot of my Russian-era Bucky Barnes writing, as well as, for some funny reason, the TV show Бригада. I just feel like the show really shows both the human and terrible, gritty side to organized crime that I am CERTAIN Bucky was involved in, in some way, shape or form. Another film/book that has, heavily and directly, inspired my both my fanfiction writing and original writing is the 2008 film, "Morphine" and the inspiration behind it, the novella by Bulgakov, Morphine. My fic Noch' Ulista Fonar' Apteka was very non-subtly inspired by Morphine, so much! AAAND- I better stop here before I write a whole essay about how media has influenced my writing, because I could literally go on forever and ever!!!! ;)

🔪- I think the weirdest thing that I have had to research for a writing project was for my fic Noch' Ulitsa Fonar' Apteka. I had to, somehow, figure out how to write drug addiction from a first hand perspective, and, of course, I myself have not, and never will take any form of recreational drugs, so I had to scout through many pages of google before finding this legendary gem of a website that has been a lifesaver for me. The website looks like it was made in 2008 and I honestly was a little worried about clicking on it, but it turned out fine haha. It has a bunch of really detailed first hand experiences with all sorts of drugs you could imagine, including withdrawal, good trips, bad trips, and coming down. I think I spent a few hours just reading and absorbing everything to try to write Bucky's experience, and honestly, I came away from the research with an even stronger desire to never try drugs, as most of the reports highlighted how the spiral began. But yeah! That might be the weirdest thing I have researched, unless of course, if you count the time I had to research equine veterinary care in 1980s Russia lmao.

🌵- Gilded Soul This is my favourite playlist I've created, and it's so gentle and sweet and I listen to the songs on it so often. I adore it so much! All the songs have memories and feelings attached to them and ugh- my favourite. Hope you enjoy too ;)

❄️- Oh my God I know exactly what this fic is. I really, REALLY want a fic dealing with the aftermath of Hydra and Department X/The Red Room's brainwashing on Bucky in TFAWS era, but in a way where it doesn't become the point of the fic, and is just like a part of him in subtle, slightly noticeable, and not overwhelming way. I want to see him struggle and yet stay strong, stay independent. I want to see him have realistic feelings towards things like therapy and such, considering the time period he is from, and the fact that he's probably been abused in such settings before. I want to see him make bad, unhealthy decisions while still remaining himself. I want to see him smoke his anger away, I want his staring problem to be addressed subtly as a leftover from when he was trained to look straight ahead while in parade rest, I really want to see him have headaches, mild psychosis, and all the realistic after-effects of electro-shock therapy, and yet, I really do not want to see it in a way that makes him dependent, or child-like. I want to see him get up, grit his jaw and move on. It isn't the healthiest way for somebody to cope, but it's the way I am guessing Bucky would cope. I want a fic that has an overarching plot where these issues are a subplot, as not to make it ALL about his recovery, instead being interesting and realistic in the world that he would be living in. I feel like I have said realistic so many times, and that is the core of it all. I want it to be as realistic and true to comic/film character as possible. I might not make much sense but yeah! That's what I really want to read, and I don't know who would be the best writer to write it!

🍄- OOOH I like this one! A headcanon I have is that Bucky and Natasha dance a lot. They are both trained dancers, and they love it, and they just put on gentle, nostalgic Russian music and dance so prettily together when they are alone!

🏜️- Oh for sure the types of comments that point out what affected them personally. I really want to connect to people through my writing and whenever somebody comments that a certain bit made them feel in a specific way I just absolutely melt in joy and delight!!!
