"It’s my understanding that MSNBC’s leadership did not object to Ronna McDaniel being hired by NBC News when the matter first arose, but when the hiring was announced, and MSNBC staff essentially unanimously and instantly expressed outrage, our leadership at MSNBC heard us, understood, and adjusted course."

The recent hiring of Ronna McDaniel, chairwoman of the Republican National Committee (RNC), by NBC News has sparked controversy across media circles. Rachel Maddow, the renowned host on MSNBC, publicly criticized the decision, questioning its rationale and implications. In this comprehensive analysis, we delve into the intricacies of this contentious appointment and its broader implications for journalistic integrity and political discourse. The Backlash: Rachel Maddow's Rebuke During her primetime show on Monday evening, Rachel Maddow addressed the hiring of Ronna McDaniel as an on-air contributor by NBC News. Maddow's criticism was unequivocal, describing the decision as "inexplicable" and expressing hope for its reversal. This public rebuke underscores the significance of McDaniel's appointment within the media landscape, particularly given Maddow's influential position as MSNBC's leading figure. Professional Concerns Maddow's sentiments echoed those of numerous colleagues within NBC News and MSNBC, who have voiced apprehension and objection to McDaniel's inclusion as a contributor. Concerns center around McDaniel's history of undermining journalistic integrity and promoting anti-democratic narratives, raising questions about the ethical implications of her role within a reputable news organization. The Controversy Explained: Conflict of Interest Central to the controversy is the perceived conflict of interest inherent in McDaniel's appointment. As chairwoman of the RNC, McDaniel is deeply entrenched in partisan politics, raising concerns about her ability to provide impartial analysis and commentary. Critics argue that McDaniel's partisan affiliations undermine the credibility and integrity of NBC News, compromising its commitment to unbiased reporting and journalistic ethics. Impact on Editorial Integrity McDaniel's hiring has reignited debates surrounding editorial integrity and journalistic independence. By aligning with a prominent figure associated with efforts to delegitimize democratic processes, NBC News risks undermining its reputation as a trusted source of news and information. Maddow's condemnation reflects broader anxieties within the journalistic community regarding the erosion of ethical standards and the blurring of lines between news and partisan advocacy. Response and Repercussions: Internal Dissent The backlash against McDaniel's hiring extends beyond public criticism, with internal dissent brewing within NBC News and MSNBC. Notable figures, including former Meet the Press moderator Chuck Todd and Morning Joe hosts Joe Scarborough and Mike Brzezinski, have openly opposed McDaniel's inclusion as a contributor. Their objections underscore the internal divisions and ethical concerns within the network regarding McDaniel's role and its implications for journalistic integrity. Network Policy and Editorial Direction Maddow's assertion that McDaniel will not appear on MSNBC reflects the network's commitment to maintaining editorial autonomy and upholding journalistic standards. This decisive stance reaffirms MSNBC's dedication to journalistic integrity and aligns with its mission to provide viewers with accurate, impartial reporting. However, questions persist regarding NBC News' broader editorial direction and the impact of McDaniel's hiring on the network's reputation and credibility. FAQs: Q: Why is Rachel Maddow criticizing NBC's hiring of Ronna McDaniel? A: Rachel Maddow and other journalists are concerned about McDaniel's partisan affiliations and her potential impact on NBC News' editorial integrity. Q: How does McDaniel's role as RNC chairwoman affect her credibility as a news contributor? A: McDaniel's position within the RNC raises questions about her impartiality and ability to provide unbiased analysis, given her close ties to partisan politics. Q: What steps has NBC News taken in response to the backlash against McDaniel's hiring? A: NBC News has faced internal dissent and public criticism, prompting Rachel Maddow to assert that McDaniel will not appear on MSNBC, signaling the network's commitment to upholding journalistic standards.

Rachel Maddow is the best … and her guests & colleagues just expand the excellence… it’s especially important for those of us who have not lived through the history here — and who may have not even considered researching it … — to become informed about these unfortunate precedents to these “unprecedented” times … somewhat comforting that there were precedents… somewhat also disconcerting… please SHARE this knowledge everyone… whether it’s to remind those who did live through it or are aware— or to enlighten citizens like me who were NOT aware of this history— it’s a public service to speak of these issues and to gut check ourselves towards voting for our destiny, lest we imperil it …

 Rachel Maddow’s ULTRA Podcast
Tumblr media
I spent some time listening to Rachel Maddow’s ULTRA podcast last week. This production was very well done and worth taking the time to engage with. The use of the original voices from the Library of Congress lent ULTRA some much needed gravitas, I think. This is aural entertainment on a grand scale and endowers this slice of American history with some creative buzz. The narrator has a great voice and Rachel Maddow takes the listener on a journey back in time firmly held in her vocal embrace. The podcast production tinkles with all the bells and whistles of a radio soap from yesteryear, which was the desired intention, I am sure.

American History on the Radio with Rachel & ULTRA
As a historian myself, I probably could do with less leavening agents within the overall recipe, but I imagine the general public would eat this up. The content matter at the heart of ULTRA is serious stuff and well deserves greater notoriety within American society and the world. The fact that the USA was infiltrated at the highest levels by NAZI influence during the 1930s and through WW2 should be more well known. That agents of the Hitler regime were working with senators and members of congress to spread disinformation and pro-NAZI propaganda is worrying in itself. US tax payers were paying the postage to send out millions of pro-NAZI letters and pamphlets to the population through the free mail accorded to members of congress and the senate. The revelations about the huge fascist movement within the US should ring alarm bells to concerned citizens of the world, even to this day. Ultra-Right Wing Echoes in Trump’s America First Why should we worry about something that happened 70 plus years ago? Well, because very few of these people were successfully charged and punished for their sedition and treason by the US Justice department. The echoes of this, following the presidency of Donald Trump, is no coincidence and one of the reasons why ULTRA was made in the first place. Maddow puts a somewhat pragmatically positive spin on concluding events in summing up ULTRA to her audience – I don’t agree with her assessments. As an outsider looking in on the USA I am appalled at how often individuals of wealth and influence rarely pay the piper in America. The smokescreen of political interference is hoisted up over the DOJ again and again in the US to allow obviously guilty individuals to get off scot free. Money and power seems to be a guarantee of immunity from prosecution in the US.

Photo by Carlos Herrero on Pexels.com Trump is the perfect modern illustration of this. A man who has lied and broken innumerable laws throughout his life walks unscathed through layers of seemingly impotent justice. The governments in America are hamstrung by the political powers of the two main parties. Each side accuses the other of political partisanship in the handling of cases and derails prosecutions on this basis. To the casual observer it is like watching a noisy circus where the American facility for rapid fire verbiage fills the room with hot air and not much else. There have been more political books recently written about Trump than anybody else by a long shot, as commentators and political insiders attempt to come to grips with the phenomenon of his presidency. The American system, the great democracy so lauded by Americans themselves, is unable to deal with endemic issues of corruption fuelled by corporate lobbyists and other special interest groups. The manipulation of government by these agents of money and power has rendered the system ineffective for ordinary citizens and spawned a public hate of so-called elites by a sizable chunk of the populace. Despicable populist politicians like Trump have jumped on this bandwagon as false prophets promising relief. In reality, they suck on the teats of big business with the best of them whilst braying their false message to the disgruntled masses. Trump is in the pocket of Putin and his corporation has been funded by Russian money because without this he has basically been broke for many years.

Photo by Polina Zimmerman on Pexels.com America cannot stop the guns from massacring their own children and innocents. The land of the free charges more for health care than any other western nation. Student loans have ripped off their future and weighed the next generation of leaders down with excessive debt. The dumbing down of America continues, as capitalism cannibalises itself by eating its children. There are people fighting back, as we can see by Joe Biden’s presidency and some of the legislation his party has been able to get through the houses of government. The GOP is a sickness in America and represents the grandkids of the America First movement and those racist fascists. The rest of the world might be surprised by the flagrant antisemitism and prejudicial behaviour against African Americans on display in the USA but not large sections of the local population. This stuff has been bubbling away in the hearts and minds of many white Americans since the start. The richest nation in the world rips off its own citizens on healthcare, higher education, and does not provide a worthy lifestyle for the vast majority of those who live there. What is the point of a government and economic system that does not provide the basic necessities of life to the many in a fair and equitable manner. There is something very wrong with a system that allows billionaires to amass ginormous amounts of wealth and simultaneously cannot properly look after the greater number of its residents. Australia cannot equitably provide affordable housing to its citizens now with property values and rents out of the reach of too many. What is the good of governments that cannot even house their own residents. This should be the basic pass mark for an elected democratic government. The same with healthcare and education. ©Midas Word Read the full article

I am a Politico. I consume news from multiple sources. From #RolandMartin to #BenjaminDixon. From #AmyGoodman to #GeorgiaFort. From #JohnOliver to #AmberRuffin. From #RachelMaddow to #TiffanyCross. This wide spectrum of reporting and perspective not only informs but shines a bright light on the human condition and the systems that impact our lives from the past and into the future. #TheCrossConnection was one of my favorite shows. Similar to #RolandMartinUnfiltered and #TheBPDMorningShow from years past, there were just some many knowledgeable guests and stories that highlighted my community. I remember when Tiffany started the hashtag #CrossTalk. Laying the digital path and support for her MSNBC show. I ONLY watched and listened (via SiriusXM) to MSNBC on Saturdays to catch her show. PERIOD! We need fighters for truth. We need the kinds of perspectives, voices, and information that these journalists bring to the forefront. There is just too much at stake. I look forward to the next iteration of #CrossTalk, but I cannot act like this doesn’t hurt. #news #politics #blackvoices ——————————————— #Repost from @tiffanydcross https://www.instagram.com/p/CkkvVcwudKM/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

I'll totally take the word of an asshole who actively engaged in hate blogging towards Benedict Cumberbatch and his fans. I have the fucking receipts. And #MSNBC is an absolute JOKE! I would not be surprised if the only reason they brought on #RonnaDaniels was for drama and clicks. As for #RachelMaddow who openly cried and kicked, like a child, on air, when Bernie Sanders lost the presidential nomination. That's all I think about when I see her face; A Champagne Socialist cosplaying as a journalist.
