I really love this scene because Hotch is so caring and kind to Charlotte. He gives her what peace is possible before she dies and it’s a side to him we don’t get to see very often.

I think it’s when Emily starts to see this different side to Hotch as well. He’s not just the cold, detached boss you can be mistaken for thinking he is. A small white lie to comfort a dying woman and he stays with her until the end.

For my highly scientific and official study of all things Hotchniss throughout Criminal Minds (at least until TG leaves) I am nearly finished with season 2.

I’ve completed Open Season 2x21 and I can report there’s very little Hotchniss. I mean they barely appear in any scenes together.

Though we are treated to Emily in this

And Hotch sat across from her staring intently at the case file and nowhere else.

At the end of the episode we have sleepy Hotch, probably dreaming about Emily.

I believe this is the first time Hotch and Emily work together just them. (I could be wrong.)

I’d love to know if he asked her to go with him or if Gideon suggested it. Gideon seemed concerned Hotch was going to the burn ward again so he could have told Emily to go with Hotch.

Speaking to a witness in circumstances like this isn’t easy and if Hotch asked her to accompany him then I think it speaks to how their work relationship is developing.

Hotch was very abrupt and rather rude.

In my scientific opinion it was because of an instant attraction that left him rattled. He was grateful for the distraction of a new case otherwise he’d have spent all day thinking about her.
