Watched a video about amish ppl and the girl making the video was all "well they seem happy and the religion seems pretty much unproblematic so who am i to say anything is wrong?"
And in the same breath goes "sexual assault particularly of young girls is rampant in the amish community" and it's like....
HUH....i wonder why that is?????
Could it be that a uniquely isolated community run by the most strict gender roles imaginable and extremely religious is actually bad for women and girls?
nah. Just let them do what they want, they're not hurting anyone

radfem question!!
i'm having a conversation with someone about female only spaces (this specifically pertains to bathrooms) and they said that the rule of having female-only bathrooms would "act more like an enforcement of femininity more than anything else."
I think their point is about butch lesbians and/or women who present "masculinely," and so because there is ofc no female identification at the door, and policy would likely just make it more acceptable for women and girls to report if there was a male in the bathroom (without having to determine if the male identifies as a woman), this could end up hurting "masculine"-presenting women (implying that they could be mistaken as male), and in turn just reinforce femininity. Thoughts? (mine are in tags)

It's supposed to be a feminist act to keep your own name instead of taking your husband's, if you're in a heterosexual relationship, to oppose the idea of his ownership of you- but I don't really see the point since most of the time you'd still be using your father's name. It's still a representation of a man owning you. Or even if you have your mother's maiden name, it was the name her father used to own her, so in turn your grandfather owns you. If you go back and back and back it's just generations of men owning you and all your mother's before you. I think the most feminist thing you can do is just pick a new surname, or make your middle name your surname or something. Or take the surname of the most badass woman you've ever heard of or read about. Stuff like that. And that's something that all women can do, even homosexual and bisexual women who aren't a going to marry men, you can still get rid of the paternal ownership. And if you have kids they can just have this new family owned name instead of your husband's or father's owned name.
EDIT: Ladies look through the notes to see some differing, very good points!!

Just saw an insta post that was like:
Me as a young girl: *praying to god to make me a boy so I could marry a girl*
Me now: *is genderfluid*
And it's like.....you Didn't escape. You're still In It. The shackles of god weigh on you even now. Your internalized misogyny and lesbophobia convinced you that god was right all along. You Fell For It.
