Saundarya: Seraphic Oneness ( Ficlet #1)
Gazes Through Showers
Manohar had finally gotten an early release that day from work. He did work in His father’s company, but He had refused to be treated as someone special, insisting He climb the rung by Himself, especially if He was to become the Managing Director eventually. He wanted to see what every position offered to be able to improve the company as time went by. The pride on His father Vasudev and elder brother Halesh’s faces was more than enough for Him to know He had made the right decision regarding the company. But in that moment, all He really wanted was to go home to His Amma’s bhajjis and tea, relax next to her and talk about the happenings of the day, of dreams of the future. But here He was, caught in the rain, in this crazy, unmoving Bangalore traffic. Was there nothing… He sighed and turned on His playlist, shuffling His Tamil music playlist, hoping that some song that would suit the mood would appear somehow. “Venmathi venmathiye nillu,” the melancholy of love at first sight filled his car, and Manohar relaxed. This song perfectly set the mood, for the gloomy sky and the insane traffic gave Him the same vibes. He sang to himself softly, staring at the endless traffic and the dark rain clouds. Sometimes, He had seen his own complexion dance with the colour of the rain clouds. Rather, very often it had happened, and in recent days, even more so.
Every priest he has met in any temple He went to had told Him that His Divinity was like Vaasudeva Krishna's; that He was meant to change the world, but how could He without His other half by His side?
Manohar sighed softly, looking out His window, when the visual before Him made Him pause, and blink His eyes, repeatedly.
Was that... a young woman dancing in the rain? Amidst the thunder and lightning, all alone, though it felt like the rain was dancing with and around Her. Who was She? Why did She feel like someone intimately close to His heart?
"Jannalin vazhi, vandhu vizhundhadhu minnalin oli..." crooned His radio, as Manohar watched Her unblinking. Even the song sensed the thrumming of His heart and veins, it seemed. He peered more, making to lower the glass of His window, to take Her in better, when the sudden turn She executed in Her dance made Their eyes clash.
And the whole world stopped.
Manohar could feel something ancient awaken in His veins, something primal, beyond the human body, something intimately connected with the Soul, and for that moment, He felt the same from Her too, if Her parted pink lips and the widening of Her neelotpala eyes meant what He thought they did; surprise and knowing, a reflection of His own mixed emotions.
He was unsure what to think; He did not even know what He felt.
But He knew He was overwhelmed, that He felt too many things- who was She? Why did She awaken in Him something He had not felt before?
She was imprinted in Him. He rolled down His window, just to get a clearer look at Her, and it was exactly then that the traffic started to move slowly. He sighed, looking at Her as if to say sorry, before slowly driving away, watching Her for as long as He could, Her eyes never leaving Him either.
'Shankara, bless me so that She and I will meet again, and soon!'
****
Kamalaa could not forget those delightful dark brown eyes, like the soil of the rich earth, that had read her Soul that day. She even remembered those beautiful molten gold specks that danced all over His eyes, even from the distance, amidst heavy rain. The cold She had gotten due to dancing in the rain did not bother Her, but not knowing the identity of the man with the captivating eyes bothered Her.
She wanted to meet Him, get to know Him. Something about Him- it told Her clearly that He was the One.
The One She had always dreamt of.
Somehow, She just knew.
Even She could not explain how it was so, but She was more than sure that He was the One for Her. He was Her beloved Krishna.
"Purushottama," She prayed. "Come for me and to me very soon."
She felt a cool breeze touch Her, the blessing of Her Lord,as if to indicate that all will be well.
"May I ever be yours," She prayed once more, when the light sounds of Her mother's aarati reached Her ears, the ringing sounds of the archanai bell like the melody of Krishna's flute, an answer in reassurance.
"I knew you will always be there for me, Mannavane."
With those words, She slipped out of Her room, not noticing the mild fluttering of the peacock feather on Her desk even in the absence of air, a further sign from Murari, the enlivener of hearts.
A day later...
The house was decorated like a new bride, festoons and flowers hung everywhere. It had ben decorated for the welcoming of the hopeful groom of Kamalaa's elder cousin sister Revathi, the latter a karate instructor and architect, managing both professions with aplomb. Kamalaa Herself had been busy with adorning Her sister with jewels required for the occasion, without taking away Revathi's individuality.
Kamalaa's hobby was aesthetic, elegant dressing, while professionally, she was a child psychiatrist, and had seen a lot of unexpected cases.
"Kamalaa," Revathi said. "Do you think this will work out?"
"I feel it will. I have a good feeling about this match, in a way I did not about the previous ones," said Kamalaa softly. "That explains the dressing up too, I guess."
"You always dress me up beautifully, but since you met that mystery man, I feel like you allowed your romantic side to come out in full force, and that is showing in how you are dressing me up."
"Is it?" Kamalaa felt the jhumkas on Her ears hit Her skin lightly, creating a pleasant sensation rather than pain, as She entwined Revathi's long braid with a fusion of malli and kanakambaram.
"It is, and I am loving this," said Revathi. "You have made me some celestial apsara?"
Revathi was clearly joking, but Kamalaa looked at Her sister, and said, "You do not know how beautiful you truly are. Hopefully, my Athimber can and will show you."
"Girls, they are near. Kamalaa, check to make sure all the food is ready, and keep Revathi's vadai-sambar in the front," called out Prerna, Kamalaa's mother, who had taken the position of Revathi's after the latter lost hers.
Kamalaa looked at Revathi and kissed Her forehead gently.
"Get ready Akka, the time has come."
With that, Kamalaa left the room, heading to join the welcoming committee, just as the golden brown eyes her heart had been captivated by fell on Her.
Kamalaa stilled and met His eyes, as He too paused, taken in by Her, the whole world falling away, only each other in the vicinity of the intense gaze of love that radiated from them.
"Purushottama," She whispered, low enough that none but She could hear Herself.
"Neela," He whispered, as if having heard Her, His eyes boring into Hers, as everyone around Them greeted each other, the heady love in the air enhanced within Them, as both walked inside, now side by side, as if unable to even part.
'Krishna, you came, as you promised,' Kamalaa prayed, as everyone got seated, and the introductions started, Kamalaa still glancing at the man intermittently, Her veins thrumming with reassurance and hope.

Remembering #JuthikaRoy on her 10th death anniversary (05/02/14), the iconic bhajan vocalist celebrated as the modern-day #Meera during the pre-independence era. Renowned for her soul-stirring Meerabai bhajans such as "Ghunghat ke pat khol" and "Pag Ghunghru Baandh Meera Naachi Re," Juthika Roy carved a niche for herself in the hearts of many.
Her melodious renditions won the hearts of Hindi and Bengali cinema audiences alike, making her a celebrated figure in her time. Her voice captivated notable personalities, including Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru, who were avid admirers of her work.
On the historic day of August 15, 1947, as Nehru journeyed from Teen Murti Bhavan to the Red Fort to mark India's independence, Roy's bhajans filled the air, broadcast live by All India Radio. After her performance, at Nehru's request, she continued to sing until the national flag was hoisted, adding a memorable soundtrack to a pivotal moment in India's history.
In her reflections, Roy shared an anecdote about Sarojini Naidu revealing how Gandhi found solace in her bhajans during his incarceration in Pune, making her music an integral part of his daily prayer meetings. She even had the honor of performing privately for Gandhi at his residence.
Embarking on her musical journey at just 12 years old with her first album, Roy was mentored by the renowned rebel poet Kazi Nazrul Islam. Her collaborations with the esteemed Bengali music director Kamal Dasgupta, especially the revered Narayan stuti "Narayan Shriman Narayan," continue to resonate with listeners.
Roy's versatile talent extended beyond Hindi and Bengali, as she lent her voice to songs in various languages, including Urdu and Tamil.
On February 5, 2014, the music world lost this luminary in Kolkata after a long illness. As we commemorate her legacy, we hope for her soul to find everlasting peace.

bro what’s in the air - i was literally listening to enna solla pogirai this morning and that’s coming from someone who literally only listens to tamil/malayalam/hindi songs when her parents have the aux. which is also why the songs i know from those languages aren’t from the last decade lol and maybe it’s the nostalgia but they just hit different lol
ARR TUMBLR FANDOM RISE. Lol jk jk but like even you mentioned an ARR song and like atleast 75% of the songs mentioned are ARR and as a diehard Rahmaniac I'm loving it omg.
Okay, hate to sound old af but Indian songs don't hit the same anymore. I'm not saying there are no good songs at all, there absolutely are, but like, there was something about some years ago when there was some.. idk, magic to songs and its lost. The last decade hasn't been decading. Has everyone's brain been altered? Has covid made us yearn for the better times? Has the death of radio and music channels killed the vibe? I don't know what is going on but something isn't computing. It's a thing and nobody can convince me otherwise.

Tell us 10 facts about yourself! Send this to 10 other people!
Thanks for the ask 💜💜💜
1) I really hated burgers for some weird reason as a kid, though I'm slowly learning to like it now lol
2) I'm interested in programming and I'm thinking of creating a hetagame as a way of practicing programing lol, we'll see though
3) One of my fav games as a kid was Purble Place, because it was the only thing on our family computer other than solitaire
4) Talking about early 2000s games, in PvZ, me and a friend of mine used to call that zombie with the heart underwear and newspaper- like underwear man or diaper man in Hindi lol
5) I've been at the festival in Tamil Nadu where people pull those really big Chariots with gods in them with rope through the streets (and I held the rope for a few seconds). It's absolutely huge and here are two links about it! Personally, it looks really dangerous to me lol😅
6) I've ridden a camel and a horse!
7) My favorite insect/mollusca when I was a kid was a snail and still is! I liked to pick up the pine straw and look for them!

9) It took me until I was 6-ish when I watched an actual American film to realize that American films didn’t have a whole song sequence in the middle of their films and the songs that were on the radio were-in fact- not songs from movies but independent artists/bands
10) I’ve watched all parts of the Planet Earth documentaries at least 4 times

Giftedverse | Sirenia
Priyanka Shantha Maikaru (nee Suman), alias Harmonic Heroine: Sirenia, is a Moonlight Heroine member of the Justice Bureau. Before becoming a Hero, she was an accomplished opera singer.
Appearance
Tumblr media
Design notes:
She's still got the same design as her old MHA self bc I like it. I really peaked with Priyanka's design.
Bindi because she's religious
Personality
Priyanka is a reserved but gracious woman who often brushes off any and all comments that would otherwise inflate the egos of others. She often states that she has no need for those [types of compliments] since she's confident in her own abilities and skills.
An artist at heart, Priyanka has a strong love of and connection to the arts as shown in her singing skills. She takes her career as an opera singer very seriously-- probably moreso than her role as a hero and has led her to being accused of not taking her heroic duties seriously. Priyanka counters this by saying, "I was a natural singer before I was a natural hero."
She's also shown to be very crafty when it comes to advancing her career. Priyanka doesn't fight dirty-- as she sees herself as above such tricks-- and instead smooth talks her way into bigger and better things.
She has a motherly side that really comes out when she's around her young son. Priyanka has a soft spot for children and tends to go easy on teenagers who commit crimes.
History
Priyanka was born in Bombay, India to an Arabic father and a Tamil mother. As a child, she always dreamed of being a big star like the ones she watched on TV. She discovered her talent for singing at a young age while a song played on the radio. Her parents were very impressed and encouraged her to hone her voice to be a great singer.
Unbeknownst to both them and the Priyanka, her Gifts had manifested.
For the next few years, Priyanka would teach herself how to sing using books, the Internet, and videos, and spend countless days honing her voice and expanding her vocal range. She became an entirely self taught singer by the time she entered young adulthood.
For university Priyanka headed to Sweden to study performing arts. One day while auditioning for a play at her school, she caught the attention of an opera house owner. He watched her audition and was (quite literally) captivated by her voice.
Seeing an opportunity to make it big, Priyanka told the house owner that she was interested in becoming one of his opera singers, citing her past experience with performing on stage as a way to further entice him. The opera house owner gave her his number so she could set up an appointment with him.
Gifts
Siren Song: Priyanka can emit a beautiful and enchanting song that lures others to her and places them into hypnosis. After some further training, it is no longer limited to just songs as she can now use it with humming and whistles. Her voice is so strong that it can even tear through metal.
Musical Empathy: Priyanka can hear the emotions of others with her mind and manifest them as sound. She can also sense what those around her are feeling by picking up their sound vibrations.
Relationships

There are many stories of how this song came to Nusantara. One of them goes: there was a regular steamer service between the Seychelles and Singapore. One of them goes: the daughters of the exiled Sultan heard the song on Mahé and loved it, and taught it to their brother, who taught it to another brother, who whistled it to a British administrator, who made it Perak’s state anthem. One of them goes: this happened in 1888. One of them goes: this happened in 1902. One of them goes: the whistler was in fact the private secretary to another Sultan, a musician himself. One of them goes: the tune was already popular in Perak, which is why it was whistled. One of them goes: the Sultan in exile composed it himself. One of them goes: the Sultan, returning from exile, was required to live in Singapore, and heard the tune there. One of them goes: this happened in 1901. One of them goes: more than one story can be true. One of them goes: it is pure coincidence that two songs have the same tune, inilah yang dikata seni muzik itu sejagat, this is why it is said the art of music is universal.
[...]
What was gained by turning “La Rosalie” into the official anthem of Perak, and then Malaysia? Certainly these two versions are more confident, more rousing and unifying in their attempts to bring Negeri, and then Negara together. The imaginative boundaries of the song seem to have expanded from a passionate lover or sibling to all the people of a state and a nation. With the expansion comes a corresponding narrowing too. The rain on Rosalie’s back, the moon, golden sand, the falling flower of a slain sister, a pair in a rowboat, again the moon, the audacity of swearing upon a crocodile are all swept away by grand orchestral arrangements. Instead of revenge, or pining, or a heart that cannot have any peace, there is harmony between people, ruler, land and God, at least in the lyrics.
[...]
—when it was first announced to the public, it was thought of as undignified, after all, the tune coursed through every jukebox, every dancehall—
—a Cantonese one, too, but the lyrics are so sickly sentimental, barely saved by the language—
—all other versions banned by statute—
—the union's response to the synthesiser was to try to ban it, because it put string players out of work—
—made his breakthrough while at university in Taiwan… calls for his citizenship to be revoked… considered charging him with sedition—
—the idea began sprouting in Iowa, but my first draft was ignored by the editors of a local publication, so I shelved—
—Tan Sri Dato Abdul Mubin Sheppard, born Irish, joined the Malayan Civil Services, married in Singapore, imprisoned during World War II, converted to Islam the year of Malaysian independence, performed the Haj, documented several accounts of our tune, died Malay—
—accusations of plagiarism fly furiously all over the internet, each comment a little flea—
—but there are no records of it in de Béranger’s extant published songs, and he wasn’t a composer anyhow, but a lyricist, so who could have written the tune—
—in Dutch it seems to have been about a slavegirl pining for her master, who has sailed off leaving her with a blue-eyed child—
—Saidah Rastam, who I am in debt to, says, my country is an emotion… When the Federation of Malaya was born, hardly anyone knew what Malaya should be. There were so many desires, conflicting beliefs. It could all have fallen apart so easily—
—Sheppard had the sense of adventure to send the anthem to the Seychelles in the 1960s, and an old woman recognised it instantly on the radio—
—video of schoolkids singing the anthem in Chinese translation went viral; investigations found Chinese textbooks with the offending versions and unearthed Tamil ones too, except the Tamil text is sung phonetically, based on the Bahasa Malaysia—
—my peer reviewer said “Terang Boelan” was one of numerous cultural texts that propelled the Japanese fascination with and longing for “the South” before and during the Second World War—
—ruled that the Chagos Islands have to be returned to Mauritius, but the UK says it has every right to them, and so the Chagossians keep waiting—
—a malaise called time is upon us all, and it makes us forget—
—also performed by Felix Mendelssohn's Hawaiian Serenaders, Mamula is, as far I as I can tell, an imaginary island, as imaginary as Sawoba, itself as beautiful as Hawaii—
—Wayang Kassim made it a hit from Penang to Singapore and beyond—
—there might have been a lyric-writing competition forgotten or obscured by the official narrative, with Indonesian-Malaysian composer and musician Saiful Bahri winning and writing the words to the anthem—
—isn’t there something in the silver voice, the grey ship, the tin—
—it could all have fallen apart so easily, the miracle is, it didn’t—
—hum it, now, all together, take a deep breath, and—

February 2023 Mix: Rahman Magic Orchestra
Tumblr media
February 2023: 2 of 12 mixtapes connecting the music of my childhood (Tamil pop) and the music that influenced me (sinophone indie) to the music of my new home (The Netherlands). This month: A.R.Rahman to Das Wettbüro, via Nazia Hassan and Agnès Gayraud's theory pop. Also: Themes for Great Cities.
Tracklist: A.R. Rahman - Chandralekha (from Thiruda Thiruda, 1993) Yellow Magic Orchestra - キュー "Cue" (1981) Nation of Language - Wounds of Love (2021) Nazia Hassan - Telephone Pyaar (1987) Julia Holter - Everytime Boots (2015) 亲爱的艾洛伊丝 Dear Eloise - 她的歌 "Song for Her" (2012) Yuvan Shankar Raja - Jalsa (from Chennai 600028, 2007) La Féline - Dancing (2022) Folie 2 - SG Suprasound (2022) A.R. Rahman - Kannum Kannum (from Thiruda Thiruda, 1993) Das Wettbüro - Ungerade 19/36 (2022)
Notes:
A.R. Rahman - Chandralekha (from Thiruda Thiruda, 1993) A.R. Rahman - Kannum Kannum (from Thiruda Thiruda, 1993)
'Thiruda Thiruda' was the first music album I remember being impressed by, and some of the earliest music I remember acknowledging as good. I've never seen the film the music was written for.
Yellow Magic Orchestra - キュー "Cue" (1981)
For me, YMO was the band (after Linkin Park) that only access to the internet made visible. For me as a (not upper class) teen in India, there was no local circuit of record shops or alternative radio where I'd pick up on something like YMO. Early dial-up and Napster changed that.
Nation of Language - Wounds of Love (2021) The most important concerts I saw in 2022 were Nation of Language in Amsterdam, and Nation of Language in Iceland.
Nazia Hassan - Telephone Pyaar (1987) I was too young for the "indipop" wave of the 90s but, like Japanese city pop, its the stylistic predecessors of the buzzword that deserve wider recognition, like the extended discography of Nazia Hassan or the work that labels like Naya Beat and Discostan are doing.
Julia Holter - Everytime Boots (2015) I was part of the team that toured Julia Holter in China in 2015, and I was the band's local tour handler in Beijing. The group left a huge impression on me - one of my fondest memories of Beijing is the band singing acapella on the Great Wall under a crisp, blue-skied Beijing winter day. I like to think i left an impression on them as well....Julia did tweet about me once 😳
亲爱的艾洛伊丝 Dear Eloise - 她的歌 "Song for Her" (2012) For two years, I made the daily playlists at Jing-A's bars in Beijing and the only time I've seen someone break down in joy at a song coming on is when this Dear Eloise song played at midnight on a Saturday. Yuvan Shankar Raja - Jalsa (from Chennai 600028, 2007) This song lent its name to my brother's extremely-popular blog, and was really of an era when I learned that the power of the early Internet was its uncanny ability to take the cringe errata of our pop culture and turn them into lasting friendships.
La Féline - Dancing (2022) I love this song so much. I also love that La Feline is the musical project of Agnes Gayraud, a theorist whose Dialectics of Pop is one of my favourite music books. Folie 2 - SG Suprasound (2022) Das Wettbüro - Ungerade 19/36 (2022)
Two extraordinary albums discovered on a recent trip to Dusseldorf, courtesy of local labels Themes for Great Cities and Candomble.
Thanks for listening!

Cricket has great commentary as well! Especially the ipl (which is a series where cricketers around the world make teams not based on geographical locations at all) which has tons of inside jokes almost for long time fans, the regional commentaries are even better somehow my parents tune into the tamil comms for cricket not for the match but just for the comedy
I wonder if it’s just the nature of sports like cricket and baseball being easy to commentate on, there’s only one person throwing the ball and one person hitting it and only so many points to be scored using so only so many moves, you’re not following around 20 drivers at the same time which makes it more radio friendly
Oh worm yeah that makes sense! There's only one point of focus at any one time in those sports so it's more streamlined. I also think just the relative ages of those sports makes them more experienced in using radio, meanwhile by the time F1 had established itself with a fanbase it was really time to start thinking about TV.

9 songs I’m currently obsessed with.
I'm not great at this cause i tend to just listen to the same things over and over and rely on spotify recommend/radio stations from particular songs or background songs on tiktok
But the songs currently giving my brain the most joy due to loooots of nostalgia and music tickling the right spot in my brain
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and to make it easier for folx that wanna listen but will close the app to go open spotify and then completely forget why they went there --like i do often--here are clickables that maybe work-i dunno what on tumblr works anymore, cant remember how to put a read more through mobile sooo...
Honestly cant recall how i found this, think it was through weekly spotify recs and of you know me you know I'm not a Jean Grey fan but this song has so many parts that make my brain go Ooooo and give me good shivers
Another tiktok find (im adding these descriptions from bottom up) Solmoney raps about the Roe v Wade overturning and other things happening and it's definitely a song that keeps me hype for taking down the system.
I believe a debut song by the creator. In Tamil and I can't recall the translation but found her through tiktok and her voice is so beautiful
a trending song on tiktok probably from one of the popular animes i still have yet to watch but love it
the opening instrument chords hit so good and hurl me back to late nights watching Inuyasha and pining for Lord Sesshomaru. A phenomenal Sesshomaru and Rin AU called "Song of the West" (properly aged) had me spiraling back into my love for Japanese music
Beyoncè's Alien Superstar has also been on repeat
another brain feel good song
scratches the brain perfectly for me
finding kanji i could copy and paste for this was a task lmao But the chokehold this sweet little tune has on my dopamine demands it
@myvalentina thanks for tagging me love!!
@bobbie-doll @skullpoolwriter @haldoll @pseud-pseud-pseudio @imxthexhandler @untamedtempest
Anyone else is welcome to tag me with yours!!! I just know I can bother these folx with tags 😏💕
