In spite of his not-inconsiderable wealth, Rafael only owns one watch, and is rarely seen without it. It belonged to his father when he was alive, and his grandfather before him, and as such has tremendous sentimental value.
He does not like nicknames. The number of people that can get away with calling him 'Raff' you could count on one hand, and two of those are his younger sisters.
Rafael is the sort of man that never seems to go home. He owns a beautiful flat overlooking Regents Park, but there's nothing to suggest that he actually lives there - it's almost clinical, kept meticulously clean, with hardly any personal effects to speak of.
His last proper date was so long ago, he genuinely can't remember when it was - or the woman's name.
He would rather have a starter than a dessert.
Once you have Rafael's loyalty, you will have it forever. The only caveat to this is if something you do directly impacts the safety or wellbeing of his step-mother or younger sisters, who he loves more than anything else.

I don't travel much. I'm not a huge fan of it. I like going somewhere for a bit but I'm always ready to be back home in a couple days. I like my bed and my home.

I am. Well, I guess I should say that I like to be cuddled at night when I'm sleeping, but I'm not much of a cuddler during waking hours. I need my space.

I'm content right here where I'm at. But I would like our house to be further back from the road and to have a fenced yard so my animals don't get hurt and don't have to worry about my great nephew and niece getting away from us and into the road either. Not that it has ever happened, but I do have a fear of that.

"I saw the most magnificent, riveting, moving documentary last night better than I had imagined it could be, the best thing I've seen in a long time. It weaves together Leonard Cohen's own evolution as an artist and a man from his early days as a dashing young poet whose genetic gravitas--that deep resonant voice, those somber eyes-- sits on him like a suit he hasn't grown into, the sheer difficulty he had in pulling this song's lyrics together over seven years, the music label that wouldn't release the album with the song on it in the USA, and the way first John Cale, then Jeff Buckley, then everyone started singing it.
It portrays Cohen as someone deeply rooted in Judaism (with some serious time in a zen monastery late in life) who remained, always, a seeker, a person concerned with his soul and ours, reaching for beyond even from a life of creative success and bountiful female attention. It's this questing disposition that the song emerges from. It made me think about my own creative and spiritual life, about those who reach for beyond and the way that yearning that is so present for so many of us gets so little airtime in the mainstream, so that there is hardly language for it, let alone room. It ends with K.D. Lang singing Hallelujah as his elegy, with her incomparably powerful voice and ability to hold notes into eternity.
Judy Collins is brilliant in it too. Making a documentary like this is about skillful gathering--archival material, your own interviews--and weaving together into a (if you're good) seamless whole. The film has been released in theaters in San Francisco, Berkeley, San Rafael, Chicago, New York, L.A., and a bunch of other places. Go see it. It will feed your soul, your eyes, and your ears. p.s. There was a weird question in the q & a after about Cohen and Christian content. So I looked it up and confirmed that "hallelujah" occurs in the Psalms and other parts of the Old Testament; it's Jewish. The film felt almost Talmudic in that tradition of close readings of sacred texts."
