im truly so excited for niall’s next album and everything that era is going to hold but i still get so so sad whenever i think about the reception of hbw and how the vast majority (if not all) of that album consists of songs that are meant to be heard live they’re made to be consumed by a live audience and how niall didn’t get that chance even once :/ the flicker tour was SO good but that album is very intimate, very… private, in a way. it holds the same charm when you listen to it alone in ur room at night as it does when niall performs it to a crowd. hbw tho.. it was made to have thousands of people scream the lyrics back to niall. it’s a crime that there is no live version of “everywhere” :| i hope shows for his next tour are 6 hours long so he can perform his entire discography twice

some thoughts of mine on my evolving music taste that i wanted to ramble about

i think ive grown out of liking mitski purely because ive gotten better mentally. or, i feel less alone. i still love her music but it doesnt get me anymore. her music doesn't reach in and stroke the deepest part of me these days. rather, i can't seem to let her in. i think in a way, this shows growth. but in a strange way, i think its a minor set back.

i still need my intake of more somber music, which is why ive shifted to laufey. laufey is more for hopeless romantics, but she has happier music. and even some of her sadder songs have happier beats. its better for me mentally to be listening to more jazzy, popy stuff than gut wrenching heart breaking indie from mitski. laufey gets me though.

yes, im hopelessly in love with a fictional character and he is the one i often think about whilst listening to her songs, but im happier. he keeps me happy. and listening to music that reflects my thoughts and feelings for him helps maintain that feeling of walking on clouds that thinking of him gets me.

listening to mitski was a comfort for the times i felt shackled to the ground, but now that im up above - or at the very least free to go where i want on land, her music is just a reminder of those past times.

i never thought there'd be a time where i would stop liking her music. and that's not necessarily true, i just cant listen to her anymore. not when i have laufey to remind me of all that i have now, no matter how material and delusional it is. mitski used to get me in ways that others never could.

however now that im in a better, or at least happier place, i don't need that. what i need is music that understands where im at now, and laufey fills that role perfectly. ive let go a lot of music that used to define me, because in truth, they never were really me.

mitski, mother mother, mindless self indulgence, tally hall, marina, gorillaz, lemon demon, the living tombstone, the smiths, ricky montgomery, sir chloe, vocaloid in general - don't get me wrong, it's all good music, but listening to them makes me feel like im pretending that im somebody that im not. and i cant stand to listen to them anymore when every part of me is screaming to go elsewhere for my music.

getting into metal has made me so much better as a person, and although it is taking time and i am still new to it, i am so eager to continue this journey of self discovery. ive been gradually getting into nu metal band by band, and im really looking forward to getting into black metal next. those genres just feel like ME and have helped my self expression and confidence loads.

i did this thing to my friends where i made them give me a crap ton of artists on spotify and id listen to all their songs, but i dont even need that anymore. like, it was to help me discover new music, and ill 100% listen to them all eventually, but right now, i want to pursue what makes me the happiest.

Some tended her more as a patient than as a person. No one asked or figured it out. how she liked her hair brushed.

Im sure old folks would much prefer to take care of themselves, it would be nice if nurses don’t act like they’re a burden to care for

Nursing home priorities are matters like avoiding bedsores and maintaining residents weights-/ imporatsnt medical goals but they are means not ends.

The things she missed most were her friendships, privacy, and a purpose to her days.

Sometimes we should sit down and ask what living a life really means to someone. Let alone help you make a home where that life becomes possible. How lucky are we to be able to live a life we want for ourselves.

If we shift as we age toward appreciating everyday pleasures and relationships rather than towards achieving having be getting and if we find this more fulfilling then why do we take so long to do it? The common view was that these lessons are hard to learn. Living is kind of a skill. The calm and wisdom of old age are achieved over time.

Suppose it merely has to do with perspective, your personal sense of how finite your time in this world is.

How we seek to spend our time may depend on how much time we perceive ourselves to have. You seek to plug into bigger streams of knowledge and information. You widen your networks of friends and connections, instead of hanging out with your mother.

Dressing somebody is easier than letting them dress themselves. It takes less time. So unless supporting people capabilities is made a priority the staff ends up dressing people like they’re rah dolls. The tasks come to matter more than the people.

You can guess what gets more attention: whether dad loses weight, skips his meds or has a fall not whether he’s lonely

What more is it that we need in order to feel that life is worthwhile? A cause beyond ourselves, seeing it as worth making sacrifices for, we give our lives meaning. We all require devotion to something more than ourselves for our lives to be endurable.

The only way death is not meaningless is to see yourself as a part of something greater. A family a community a society.

Simple pleasures: companionship, everyday routines, taste of good food, the warmth of sunlight on our faces. The rewards of simply being.

The battle of being mortal is the battle to maintain the integrity of one’s life, to avoid becoming so diminished or dissipated or subjugated that who you are becomes disconnected from who you were or who you want to be. We have at last entered an era I which an increasing number of them believe their job is not to confine people’s choices, in the name of safety, but to expand them, in the name of living a worthwhile life.

Louis' livestream sales were a pretty big deal but not as big a deal as it keeps getting made out to be. The other artists who did them did one night four time zones. Just like Niall's. But Louis also sold tickets, same price as the first night, for a rebroadcast the next day which were included in his total sales. Me thinks that if Niall or any of the other artists had done that their sales would have been higher. I just remember all the tweets asking if anyone had recorded RAH because they couldn't watch it when it aired. I'm not ranking on Louis I just think that it would have been more fair to only use first night sales if they're going to compare his sales to other artists who only had ticket sales for one night and then say he had the most.

louis didn't offer tickets for different timezones, yes, but instead he just made the livestream available for rewatching for 48h - u didn't have to buy another ticket for that. niall did the same as dua lipa so ppl could buy tickets for specific time slots (u could not rewatch the show at a different time slot if u bought tickets for the first time slot, u had to buy another ticket) which was more inconvenient for ppl, however dua sold the second most ticket for a live streamed concert after bts (louis is on third place) with the same strategy, so yeah maybe niall could've sold more tickets if he did what louis had done but 1) clearly u can still sell more tickets even with the 4 time zones thing and 2) that's on him and his team, like another more pressing issue with niall's stream was that it was just on fucking youtube, so ppl could share the link with other ppl who hadn't bought a ticket lmao also ppl were asking for a recording of rah bc they lit rally didn't offer any option for ppl to rewatch it, even dua gave ppl the chance to watch her stream after it took place for like a week iirc? u had to buy another ticket for it i believe but that one was cheaper

ANYWAY i think it's a great accomplishment for louis but i think neither him nor niall was thinking about world records etc when they put their shows together - it was about charity and they raised a lot of money, perioddd

Star Trek is an interesting series because uniquely for USAmerican pop-culture, it has a very communitarian and utopian, in fact almost if not outright marxist background. The ideal of a future utopian society where people from all over the world (and other worlds) live in peace and equality (the importance of having women and people from all races as main characters in a time where half of the US was still under apartheid and the rest of the world was used to European Males being the heroes was massive), a future where science and diplomacy are held to be the highest values, a future without money, a future where the main character outright says "The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in our lives." This is literally unheard of in US pop culture and indeed in most pop culture around the world.

AND YET it's also a series very much based in the way of life and ideals of the US Navy, with all that implies for its storytelling... The glorification of "exploration", of Better People coming to Primitive Worlds and Teaching Them A Lesson (no matter how well intentioned it's portrayed), the contradiction of a force of peacekeeping and exploration that still acts as a military. Star Trek always fought between these two contradictions, the Utopian future of all mankind and other species exploring space in peace and the HOO-RAH U-S-A U-S-A Navy militarist and "justified" conflicts. So many fans focus in "which ship could beat which" and the whole military structure of Starfleet and you can't really blame them since those aspects where there from the start.

TOS was revolutionary for its time, even if it still had some US centric episodes, it really was the perspective of a future for all mankind. TNG took it further, and it perhaps showed one of the best and most elaborate visions for an utopian future ever made in television with still interesting storytelling. DS9 explored the contradictions of such an utopia and while I still haven't seen it, it did so masterfully from what I've heard.

And from them, the US NAVY HOO-RAH 'faction' took over, and Star Trek stopped being about the shared future of mankind to become the future of the US (check out Enterprise's intro; Yuri Gagarin is nowhere to be found, but they found space for that guy who flew a plane really fast), and eventually to become a pew-pew starship fights action series with some speeches about "WE ARE STARFLEET. WE ARE EXPLORERGHDSKHSH" to appease the older fans.

The fact that Star Trek has long stopped trying to be the international global phenomenon it once was with the IP owners closing streaming services to US-Only services, virtually all characters from Voyager onwards being of US background (just compare the bridge crew of TOS to any other series), and so on... shows that Star Trek has long strayed from its almost revolutionary premises to become a show that glorifies US nationalism and warfare. Like pretty much every sci-fi in television.

Zayn is back! Possibly for real this time! Yolanda Hadid posted a picture of him and Gigi from a year ago at their gender reveal party (spoiler: it’s a girl!!!), and following that Zayn uploaded a picture of himself in a studio with some lovely R&B synth style music floating around. This came on the two year anniversary of the Icarus Falls release, and it set twitter ablaze, immediately trending “Z3isComing” and “Zayn is Coming”. Alex Oriet (of #pizza and Saltwives fame) posted a snippet of Zayn’s new song and said, “What kind of Christmas Present do you want to get?”. Uh, if you’re taking recommendations, I would like to see THE NEW ALBUM - preferably before the end of the year! Anyways, here’s hoping this comeback sticks because OH MY GOD I need that album! 

Louis has spent the day raking in the compliments (as he should!), including an piece in the Independent! He's quoted from a pre show press release, saying, “performing for a live crowd is the most important thing to me, this live stream is a step back into that world and is something I can’t wait to film,” and “I want to put on a real show for the fans, with scale and production, creating something special to end 2020 on a positive, upbeat note and raise money for charities that are especially close to my heart. I also want to give my touring crew work, and raise some vital money for them, as without my crew the show literally couldn’t go on”. ThePulpConversation, CelebMix, and IHeart had similar praises, including calling Walls his “chart topping debut album” (*cough*) and calling  ‘Copy’ “one of the highlights”of the show, saying, “If this signals the way [he’s] moving forward musically for his second album then we think he’s gonna make one heck of an impact”. THANK YOU!! THIS IS WHAT WE’VE BEEN SAYING!! Notably silent about the whole affair: Arista, who we last heard from in October when Walls jumped all those charts, raising the question of whether he's still with them. As they were his label for the US only due to him being tied to Syco in the UK, and with Syco out of the picture, it is plausible that he is choosing to move forward with a single deal rather than one fragmented by region. That’s fine though, the rest of us are celebrating enough as it is, and whoever gets him for that deal (or already did) sure will be too! Charlie Lightening, Krystal, and Helene all put up BTS pictures, as did the camera team, who were the same ones who shot Niall's RAH show, and Helene added a heartfelt congratulations, saying, “The voice needs time to build strength, flexibility, and all things magical..Great Singers start way in advance before hitting the mic...I am happy to say we managed on Zoom...to prepare a big ass show vocally.. Where there’s a will, there’s a way and that… *mic emoji* *heart emoji*”.  Welsh production company Krupa welcomed their new followers and also confirmed the MASSIVE amount of money that Louis had raised! Charlie Lightning's pictures are, well, lightning in a bottle and I look forward to seeing them in moodboards here for years to come, and Krystal (Louis’ makeup artist) gave us a fun close up of Louis laughing backstage while she tries to fix his (recently trimmed?) hair. God, he’s beautiful. Alex Oriet is EVERYWHERE these days, because he took a break from hanging with Zayn to ask us all what we thought of ‘Copy’ - uh, AMAZING! 

Liam is back(ish)! He did a few promos for Naughty List and went on Roman Kemp’s show to talk about his upcoming Capital Up Close show, joking that he might be dressing up as the Grinch. Roman, of course, took that as his cue to do the voice (“eight o’clock, wallow in self pity, can’t cancel that again”), to which Liam burst out laughing and said, “I’ve been on the phone with about 12 people, I just can’t handle it”. ‘Tis the season, huh?  And their advent alarm today included...more terrible jokes! “What do you get when you eat Christmas decorations? Tinselitis!”.Also Maya posted a pic taken at Liam's place showing the framed pic of Liam and Louis from gogglebox in the background, still in its place of pride on the mantle. Quite right, I would do the same with a pic of me and Louis! For some belated Fine Line celebrations, Mitch Rowland posted some behind the scenes content, (and WHERE’S THE REST OF IT?), and Fine Line has officially been on Billboards Top 200 for A FULL YEAR NOW, AND it’s been in the top 25 THE WHOLE TIME! Iconic!  Harry had a late night on Instagram, which could totally be due to the fact that he was celebrating yesterday, but he followed another artist that’s signed to FullStop (Roddy Rich) and liked King Princess’ new music video announcement, who’s caption read (among other things), “working with your partner on a video is like having a best friend on set who you KNOW WILL MAKE U LOOK GOOD lmao”. #relatable. Not to me, but probably to him! Meanwhile, Niall promoted an Irish livestream taking place at the Guinness Storehouse. Find me a more Irish event, I DARE you.
