hey! It’s my birthday! Jew, how do you thingk peole in the wasteland celebrate birthdays and shit? Like cannonicly they celebrate Christmas and Halloween but what else?

How people celebrate birthdays in the fallout universe!

I did this by faction, hope that’s ok :)

Do raiders/watelanders know their birthdays? Their parents would have to survive through childbirth and to the point where a child can grasp the concept. Even then, would they celebrate? For many, being born in the post-nuclear apocalypse feels like a curse but do they still value their souls to the point they accept their existence? What about ghouls? Do they still keep living out of fear of the unknown, yet resent growing older with each passing day? Would they still care? 

Personally, I love the concept of raiders being akin to a kindergarten class when it comes to birthdays. Someone brings in a huge box of Fancy Lad Snack Cakes and they go to town. Most likely not presents, but a bit more respect and kindness. After all, isn’t that the best gift in the wasteland? To know someone cares?

The brotherhood would probably award the participating party with half a day off to do whatever. Many probably have family members who are outside of the brotherhood’s ranks, or in Fo4, back in the capital wastes. Giving time off (as a reward) can allow for communication between loved ones, boosting morale and giving something to work for. I can just see a knight stepping out of their power armor and heading downtown to see magnolia sing. 

No one in the institute would celebrate birthdays in a sentimental manner. Many will be recognized for a good job they did since they were first created/employed, but aside from that, birthdays will be scarce.

In the railroad, parties are kinda a big thing, mostly due to decon. Dez thinks it’s all a waste of time, but also secretly enjoys some levity. Lots of pranks and shananagins and cake smashing. It’ll be fun until someone runs in interrupting about some synth or safe house lost.  Then back to business as usual.  - (Side note: I headcannon the brotherhood interrupting during glory’s birthday party :). )

Minutemen is a bit tricky tbh. As a group, they definitely can spare a bit of supplies for a higher-ups birthday. If it’s just a regular soldier, they’ll probably get a pat on the back and a few nice words from Preston, with maybe so ammo. They don’t have a lot of time to spare, as well as materials to make it happen. 

At home, (with the individual families and settlements), it’s hard to day. Depends on the person’s situation and preferences.

I think a lot of people celebrate turning a year older on new years. I’m guessing NYE is kinda a big deal. Like, we survived another year! Isn’t that great? And notjust us, but the world as we know it. Things shift, but they also stay the same. But war. War never changes.

Fem!Sole and Deacon Best Friends Headcanons

deacon immediately hopped right on board when Sole first walked into the Railroad HQ

he’d been watching and to be honest, he just liked her

she was exactly like him in so many ways, he didn’t even know it was possible

they clicked like puzzle pieces

they do every mission together

desdemona even started telling them incorrect time frames for missions because she knows they’re going to take 3x longer from laughing the whole walk

supreme sniper rifle / shotgun duo

seriously, she will charge and shoot for the face, and the whole time sniper rounds are flying over her shoulders from the shadows

sole often knows when he’s lying and she’ll add things to it like “oh yeah I remember that, it was right before I killed elder maxson and taped him to the moon” or “yeah, I was there. you were totally hot when you were younger, by the way”

it doesn’t take very long for deacon to get strangely comfortable around her

they like to go to diamond city and walk right past people and say bizarre things with straight faces just for the stranger’s reactions

“yeah, my dads decapitation went well, he just doesn’t know what kind of head he wants yet: deathclaw or yao gui”

”no, no, no, you don’t put a leash on a feral to walk it, you have to use a muzzle! like for a bad dog! you should know this by now!”

they have taken on so many different identities for missions that they basically don’t know who they are anymore

they slowly become more and more of why the other looks forward to the day ahead

once deacon did a prank on sole to make them think he was dying, and it worked so well that sole became a gigantic mess and it really shocked him to know that she cared that much

they quote shakespeare and old literature together and suddenly everyone in the room thinks they’re distinguished and cultured but really they’d only seen it once in the library

they have a particular fondness for quoting hamlet when desdemona asks them to do something for her

they end up bonding over their dead spouses

deacon gets really antsy when sole goes anywhere without him

their sleep schedules are so messed up that they will spontaneously disappear and other people in the settlement will find them clonked out somewhere

they become two peas in a pod

the peanut butter to the others jelly

the spider to their web

and they would literally die for one another, and even though deacon is closed off when it comes to his past, sole gets to know all of it because they deserve jt

Deacon, after approx. 10 minutes of traveling together: I am a Synth™. Here is my tragic backstory that I do not remember, hence the tragedy. My dumb ass, (after overhearing Deacon's coworkers talk about how he's probably a synth, Deacon himself saying that he changes his face a lot right before learning it's what synths do to get the Institute off their trail, noticing his willingness to help the Railroad and how he always brings up Glory) thinking he was just really paranoid and really into plastic surgery after the Doc Crocker debacle:

Song Review: The High Hawks - “Diamond Sky”

“Diamond Sky” sounds like a song by a country band.

And while it is a country song - a harmonic waltz with violin, piano and rimshot drums - the band that made it is a supergroup featuring members of Leftover Salmon (Vince Herman), Railroad Earth (Tim Carbone), Horseshoes and Hand Grenades (Adam Greuel) and Great American Taxi’s Brian Adams, Will Trask and Chad Staehly, who also played with Hard Working Americans.

The track announces the Feb. 16, 2024, arrival of the group’s sophomore album, Mother Nature’s Show, a musical trip down the Mississippi River whose songs are as varied as members’ day jobs.

So while “Diamond Sky” is 100 percent a country song, Mother Nature’s Show promises to be a genre-hopping LP with a country song in the first grooves and a whole lot of other stuff happening as the needle crosses vinyl.

Favorite Episodes of "UNDERGROUND" (2016-2017)

Below is a list of my favorite episodes from the WGN series, "UNDERGROUND". Created by Misha Green and Joe Pokaski, the series stars Jurnee Smollett and Aldis Hodge:

1. (1.05) "Run & Gun" - The attempt by the escapees from the Macon plantation to catch a northbound train out of the state is complicated at every turn; while Tom and Susanna Macon have the remaining slaves - especially Pearly Mae, who was captured while trying to run - questioned about their plans.

2. (1.04) "Firefly" - A notorious slave hunter named August Pullman and his son Ben track Noah and Rosalee, following their escape from the Macon plantation at the end of the previous episode. The other slaves involved in Noah's plot contemplate running, as well. Meanwhile, Ohio abolitionists John and Elizabeth Hawkes face a lethal predicament, when one of the runaways they are sheltering turns hostile.

3. (2.03) "Ache" - Now an Underground Railroad conductor, Rosalee struggles to evade Patty Canon's slave catching band. Her mother Ernestine is haunted by her past, while adjusting to her new role as a field hand on a South Carolina Sea Island plantation.

4. (1.09) "Black & Blue" - Rosalee, is captured in a small Kentucky town and held at a pig slaughterhouse, while fellow escapees Noah and Cato plot to rescue her.  John Hawkes (who is also Tom Mason's brother) learns of his wife Elizabeth's reckless action to save the orphaned escapee Boo from her ex-fiancé and U.S. Federal Marshal Kyle Risdin.

5. (1.01) "The Macon 7" - In the series premiere, Noah begins to plot an escape from the Macon plantation to the Ohio River and free states. He contemplates on choosing which slaves to be included in his plan, while dealing with a hostile Cato, who also happens to be one of the plantation’s field drivers.

Honorable Mention: (2.08) "Auld Acquaintance" - When Rosalee's plan to rescue her younger brother James from the Macon plantation fails in the previous episode, (2.07) "28", fellow Macon 7 fugitive Noah struggles to form a new plan to save both sister and brother. Ernestine's attempt to escape from the South Carolina plantation is thwarted by August, whose release had been arranged by Patty Canon.

A Messy List of Danse Headcanons

he is the most straightforward of all the companions

he says what he thinks, and doesn’t think much about what he doesn’t say. he is an open book, and usually spells out exactly what he’s feeling right then or soon after dwelling on it

he is massively touch starved because affection, especially physical, isn’t professional

like, extremely extremely touch starved

he flinches when sole puts their hand on his shoulder from behind, he scoots away if they sit too close, and diverts their attention if they seem to be coming in for a hug

and if sole does manage to touch him? he gets so tense and embarrassed and will make idle comments about professionalism

he is pretty emotionless apart from the few affinity conversations he has with sole

not because he hides them, just because he legitimately doesn’t feel them that strongly that often

he can fix literally anything that happens to power armor and laser pistols, but building or fixing anything else, even with instructions, he can’t do it

he has seen so many soldiers die around him that he almost expects it by now, that’s why he isn’t very close to anyone anymore

he and maxson actually butt heads a lot, but he never expresses it because maxson is his elder

he talks a big game about killing the filth of the commonwealth, but when it comes to non-feral ghoul children, it gets a little tough for him

he nearly died on his very first mission as a brotherhood knight. only because his leader gave him a super hard task on purpose

post bb, he thinks about the danse he replaced a lot, because he doesn’t know that he was always a synth

when he learns he is a synth, it isn’t only a shock to him, but to his body and emotions as well. he’s feeling so many things that he’s never felt before

he relies very heavily on sole to keep him grounded

he likes all the companions a bit more for accepting him at sole’s settlement, and being kind to him, but the one he likes the most is arguably preston

preston treats him the exact same and like he has the exact same worth as he did in the brotherhood

he also, shockingly, had a one-on-one with deacon that was serious, and he doesn’t dislike him anymore

he quite likes having friends :)
