Raising Paladins? IN 2023?!?!!?!? Apparently so.  I was rereading the fic a bit and saw an art in it. And instantly? I wanted to draw it again. But better. So here I am, redrawing this piece three years later. And I’m pleased. The lighting is better. It feels more natural in how she’s sitting. And she’s still got that old yupper plush. Perfect.

#she is like if og fairy tale rapunzel was raised as an unsocialized but very loyal and rabid guard dog instead of a daughter hope that help #but so many thoughts of shri’iia and her unyielding devotion #since she /IS/ a paladin. and if oaths comes from a person’s conviction and less from a deity’s blessing #I think she can get rather intense lol. but now instead of following a chaotic evil spider goddess she’s now using that devotion #to follow her newfound broken oath (path to freedom)!!!!!! #also I think there’s something sauurr scrumptious abt her previous oath being a blessing from a goddess (which in turn she had to be devote #to 24/7 or else she won’t have access to her powers ) vs new oath stemming solely from her own will and conviction #I was reading up on the paladin lore and the idea that they just believe in themselves /so/ hard they just manifest their powers is #hilarious and frankly does not make sense but the thematic change of where shri’iia’s oath charges stems #from - from something transactional to something innate is compelling enough to me that I don’t care if it doesn’t make sense !!!! #also something about how her oaths is now innate and tied to her own conviction -> leads her to actually find her sense of self and self #worth again bc before she had NONE……. olivia wilde nod gif

I know there's that whole stereotype of DMs and PCs hating each other or whatever but to be 100% honest the most joy I get out of D&D is when my players come up with some absolutely crazy batshit idea that should be absolutely impossible rules as written because as the DM I can choose to ignore that dumb nerd shit and just say "That sounds fucking rad dude, I'm giving you inspiration for that idea, now make an Acrobatics check."

you know what i would love to be an option in bg3? making your own party member. like Icewind Dale style. choose their class, voice, appearance and travel with them. obvs i understand why they didnt, but it wouldve been so fun to have the option to make your own member, esp if they could be incorporated into your backstory. a sibling, parent, spouse, adventuring buddy, best friend.

#this being spurred on by my want of my pc sabine being joined by my drow pc schezelle #have been working on them more (made sabine a lathander paladin as that made more sense and schezelle a seluné worshipping sorcerer) #they both knew each other through mutual friends becore being kidnapped in baldurs gate. while sabine was an experienced adventurer #schezelle only recently escaped the underdark after betraying her family after being rescued by members of sabines adventuring party #so all this kind of danger is very new and scary for her. i have her at about 70 #(young adult in elf years) and sabine a half elf at 45. #whereas sabine follows the canonical romance line with shadowheart #schezelle falls for astarion and supports him unequivocally but gets trapped into a relationship with him when she helps him ascend and #his alignment/the relationship as a whole changes. after the tadpole is removed the rest of the party help her get away from him and #in the meantime she looks for a way to use either true restoration/resurrection/some other cure for his vampirism #because she realizes she made a HUGE mistake just going along with everything he wanted to do #and only went along with it because 1. her own alignment is still slowly becoming unfucked cos. female drow raised in the underdark #2. shes just used to doing what people who like her say because its easier that way and doesnt make conflict #i dont think she gets back together with astarion after she finds a cure for him but they stay close. she returns to waterdeep with sabine #and shadowheart to live in the formers tavern with her adventuring party #maybe falls in love with gale while researching cures for astarion #idk yet still thinking things through and going through the game #anyway yeah. wish i couldve made a friend for sabine. think she gets lonely and misses home a lot during the adventure.

Made him a devotion paladin because it fits with his original Elder Scrolls backstory, but he's also from the Underdark so I'm not entirely sure how he found a Lawful knightly order in what appears to be Chaotic land. Anyway he’s gonna date Wyll and be angsty about it which is on-brand for him, and will again (attempt to) be much nicer than he appears
