hey. so i was reading through your writings (good stuff!), and i noticed that 'I write, therefore I am.| I am, therefore I write.' is quite similar to the famous saying by descartes (i think therefore i am). and when reading back to your previous arguments with ibuzoo (which you were totally right), i noticed that you seem to be doing the same thing you accused her of. so my question is, is plagiarism ok when the original authors are dead? thanks!
no anon, plagiarism is never okay. yet, hearing your ask (and i’m sure many others may think similarly), it seems to me people in general are actually quite confused about what plagiarism even is.
i'm honestly quite surprised i even have to explain this, but the difference between what i did (on purpose) in that quote and what ibuzoo did (behind my back) with my poems is really enormous and quite blatant.
with my "i write, therefore i am and i am, therefore i write" i'm actually very openly quoting descartes playing with his famous line, which is coincidentally one of the most famous philosophical quotes of the modern era. the trick of that little poem is precisely to twist it and play with it and somehow reinvent it, all the while crediting descartes the whole time, since pretty much everyone knows the original quote and where it comes from. many authors did similar things with famous quotes, the first example that comes to mind is the "art is stealing" line by picasso, line that was playfully stolen by many after him. but the list of similar instances is very long, i saw it happening throughout literature many many times. this is not plagiarism, but a form of artistic tribute. i'm obviously not pretending the "cogito, ergo sum" quote to be mine, i'm using its cultural impact as fundamental part of my echoing poem. it's obvious that's a quote from descartes. it's obvious it was twisted to mean something to writers.
what ibuzoo did with my poems on the other hand, is very different. i am not descartes (yet lol). i am not a famous dead author whose quotes are basic worldwide cultural knowledge. she didn't take shakespeare and wrote "write or not to write, that's the dilemma". she unapologetically plagiarized a fellow emerging author. i was a mutual of hers on tumblr who, over the years, tagged her in the few poems i felt like posting, as she used to tag me in her edits. she took two of my personal poems, changed a single word each and posted them as her own and one right after the other. once questioned, she denied the obvious, refused to take the poems down, played the victim, painted me as the villain and blocked me. that's plagiarism. that's not acceptable. she wasn't trying to pay me any tribute. she denied the obvious connection altogether. i am not an easily recognizable cultural icon. the two instances are wildly different. one is art, the other is simply disgusting.
i hope i clarified your doubts.

I saw everything you went through with the plagiarism mess and I'm so sorry! Just know that ibuzoo also plagiarized Rilke (I think it was thought 369 or something) by changing “I” to “you,” (the very same thing they did to your poems) which is when I stopped following them. It’s also a fairly well known part of the Duino Elegies, so I’m not sure how they thought no one would notice. Btw I saw that after what happened with you they just fell out of grace and 1/2
2/2 and they are now a little blog selling pins for children or something. So justice is served. I'm just really sorry they used plagiarism to gain visibility with other people's talents and are even now still profiting on it with their little doodles and stolen poetry books...
__________
Thank you for your ask, dear anon.
I said that I wasn't going to respond to any more asks about the situation, and since this day I had kept my promise - and even if I still receive a lot of messages along the same lines as yours.
I drew a line with the asks not because I am not interested in hearing you all and your right to rebel against injustice (because I do hear you and think you are all very valid, and I'd love nothing more than giving you all a space to denounce what has happened to you), but to merely try and stop it from escalating too much in uncontrollable directions.
This is a disgraceful matter, which apparently has been going on for literal years before me and in more than one fandom or manner. It has surely brought much disquiet and hurt to more than one person, yet there is a too fine a line between informed discussion and cancel culture these days, especially for blogs with a decent following, and I didn't want to feed a monster I despise as much as the person that I tried to defend from it.
Ibuzoo from my very first polite and baffled questions on the matter, had immediately fabricated countless anon asks to try to pass as the victim (apparently not understanding how blatant it indeed appeared to everyone else that she was sending them to herself - the "hate" she was receiving was painfully cookie-cutter, way over-the-top and followed her normal phrase structure).
Regardless, I didn't want it to happen for real, not even to her, so after the initial discussion, I considered the matter closed as it was, informed everyone with a post and moved on (even if she still has online my plagiarized poems and no one ever took them down).
If she is now fallen from grace, I think it's because people have seen her and her "unique talent" for what it really was.
Anyways, even if in general I prefer to focus on the people I like and respect, I am really glad you took the time to show your support to me and everyone she has wronged over the years (as you saw yourself, we are many). I had no other mean to let you know how much I appreciate it - so thank you, truly.
I didn't know about Rilke or anything else actually. She had blocked me the moment I started to politely ask questions and, after the facts, I had blocked her back myself (especially from @thedeadanonpoetssociety, since I felt the duty to try to protect my poets as best as I could from experiencing something similar).
I am happy to say she is not in my orbit anymore and I never spare her a thought.
I just hope she has learned from the experience and realized the degree of infelicity of her actions - or at least learned to take responsibility for them, instead of hiding under clearly fabricated anon hate and hypocrisy, and then just fleeing from the scene at the first given opportunity.

I'm sure you probably got this aksed to you at least one houndred times already haha but can you recommend/name any blogs that only post about any type of mythology like you do?
i don’t know that many unfortunately.
@fyeahmyths, of course. @facinaoris makes amazing myth edits, and so does @ramonameisel.
most of the other myth blogs i used to follow are inactive. if anyone knows of others, please feel free to drop their names in the replies!

Do you know the fic where Hermione and Cedric are friends and Tom is jealous, but later finds out that Cedric is gay? I think there was a thing about Tom running a porn site, but I don’t know for sure if that was in this fic

Viktor Krum x Hermione Granger
Viktor was once again struck by how distinct she looked; he had never seen anyone that resembled her. Her hair gave her an almost wild appearance and yet she held herself with a regal quality that was rare and bizarre in someone as young as she was. He stopped in his tracks for a moment, merely to observe the small changes in her face as her eyes followed the words in the text. He studied her as hard as she did her book, watching as she absentmindedly bit her bottom lip, an image he was beginning to find very distracting. He marvelled at the sight as her eyebrows rose and her eyes gleamed as she stretched across the table to furiously write something down, pausing to pull back the sleeve of her jumper that was at least two sizes too big for her small form. Desperate as he had been to speak to her, Viktor was almost loathed to disturb her or to interrupt the beautiful tableau she presented. - Excerpt Air, Chapter One.
As a Christmas present to myself, I commissioned the amazing @ramonameisel-art to do Viktor and Hermione’s portraits and I love how they turned out! There is something really piercing in their expressions that definitely reflects the darker tone Air is about to take and I find them completely captivating.

Studyblr with knives reading challenge check in
Im so close to having a bingo I just need to read some poetry, think I’m gonna go for a collection by @ramonameisel (fellow knife gang members check them out it’s great I really like the style)
So far I’ve read:
Historical fiction: Broadway Limited where a bunch of teenagers and young adults try to make it in the post World War Two New York art scene, the characters are all endearing even when they make stupid decisions because they look human, at the end it almost feels like you live in the boarding house with them, 4/5 would recommend will continue the series
Mystery: La prophécie de Venise, another french novel mixing mysterious murder, esoterism, family drama and secret societies, well written and full of suspense, a private investigator is hired by a wealthy old man to solve the strange death of his granddaughter 24 years ago, his son and himself will have to go undercover in a magic obsessed organisation to uncover this case... 3/5 do not read unless you’re ready to live with the fact that the sequel has been cancelled
Urban fantasy: Viral, do you know Bones ? The popular crime tv show with the amazing doctor temperance brennan ? Well viral is the story of her niece Tory Brennan as she settles in South Carolina and makes friends with her new brainy neighbors, that’s the introduction in reality they all share one braincell, and have 0 impulse control because in the span of a week they steal a puppy from a government facility and uncover a dead body from the 60s they also catch an experimental form of parvovirus which rewrites part of their genetic material (no covid doesn’t do that get vaccinated folks) and become kinda wolf like, fun and engaging, to much furry drama not enough murder mystery in my opinion
One word title: finale, last book in the caraval trilogy, fun enough, engaging twists, not enough backstory on the fates, too much love triangle, tried very hard to be the night circus instead of expanding on the murder tarot. I’m low-key mad if you couldn’t tell...
Current read:
Cemetery boys: trans mc
The cruel prince: recommended by a friend

For the Meta Ask for writers: 7, 10, 11, 15, 20, 22 :)
multiWhoa, a whole bunch of questions :D Thank you!
Meta Writer Asks
7. What do you think are the characteristics of your personal writing style? Would others agree?
Something I am very fond of doing and take great care with is to include small details that help to convey a scene or mood. When I write, I see the scene before my inner eye and I try to get as close as possible to that image so that my readers can see it as well. I guess that would count as characteristics, yes? ;) And since I have been told by several people that they appreciate that in my writing, I think others would agree.
... right? Tell me if I’m wrong, I’m not “others” after all ;)
10. How would you describe your writing process?
Settle down somewhere comfy, a blanket is mandatory. Get something to drink that I ignore. Set the mood with music - I have playlists for characters and moods both. I prefer headsets to speakers to really sink in my little “me” bubble, but if I can be truly alone, speakers work well, too. In 98% of the time, I write chronologically, and those other 2% tend to bite me in the ass, so I visualize the scene and... off we go. (And hope not to be distracted by kids or husband.) I’ve grown fond of 20min writing sprints these last two weeks, especially if I kind of start to meander around things I don’t have a clear picture of yet or that have to be done in order to *get* somewhere. That timer really helps me to just focus for a specific time and force me to not double-check each sentence.
11. What do you envy in other writers?
The ability to make music with their words. @elfyourmother is such a person, I love the poetic feeling I get with her writing (and it fits so perfectly for the FFXIV setting ♥).
I also admire when people dare to write characters that are not necessarily likeable (looking at you @kunstpause ♥), at least not at first glance. Or who openly and noticeably make mistakes, stupid mistakes. Those characters are so complex and multilayered, and despite them not being the “hero” or “warm and soft” character that is so easily appreciated (and that I tend to write... it’s a flaw), they are amazing. And suddenly you realize you’ve grown fond of them and it’s like WHOA.
Or when, without saying much, you are thrown in a WORLD of emotions and with five, ten paragraphs you’re absolutely stunned and blown away. @ramonameisel is such a writer.
(I don’t like the word “envy” in this context, it gives the whole thing a negative connotation. I don’t envy in “I wish they wouldn’t be able to do that” or “I wish I’d rather be able to do that.” I admire them, not envy them.)
15. Which is harder: titles or summaries (or tags)?
Tags are no big deal. Summaries are hnnnngh, but doable. Titles though. Titles are my nemesis. I prefer short titles but they must mean something. A symbol, a layer within the story, an emotion. And then they should of course still be catchy!! Sometimes, I’m struck by inspiration and am YEEEEES THIS! Mostly, I struggle. Often, I steal - lyrics, quotes.
20. Tell us the meta about your writing that you really want to ramble to people about (symbolism you’ve included, character or relationship development that you love, hidden references, callbacks or clues for future scenes?)
Gods, so much. I’m not that good with symbolism, I feel, but I have so often put in something tiny throughout the story that - to an attentive reader - hints to something bigger that will be revealed later. Adriene’s past (which has been talked about a few times later) has been hinted at in the first chapter that features her. The connection between her and Cassia, parallels that are only obvious at second glance. I love doing these things - which is also why I prefer planning things through, so I am able to do that. Character development is also something that I believe I’m good at and which I especially enjoyed writing when it comes to Solas in Flaming Up.
22. got answered here.

Are you aware that @rmeisel plagiarized at least two of your famous poems, changing just one word and calling them hers? The "How cruel it is..." and the "No one has ever loved...", you can find them in her blog. And it's not the first time she does. I thought you should know.
anon, you totally found me in disbelief, especially because @ibuzoo (aka @rmeisel) and i have been mutuals since forever and in pretty friendly terms.
but i have to admit i checked and found to my dismay that this one she recently posted (source x):
Tumblr media
sounds a lot like my (source x):
Tumblr media
and also this one that she just posted (source x):
Tumblr media
is my (source x):
Tumblr media
that i had both posted on @mostruositas, my writing blog, a few years ago and that i periodically reblog - but that i had written almost seven years ago for @thedeadanonpoetssociety when i first founded it under the pseudonym of “anonymous”, my society pen name (source x x) - and i’m really not okay with it. thank you anon for letting me know.
ramona, i’m sorry if i’m addressing this publicly. yet, since you posted those without first asking me if i was okay with it and tagged them as yours for everyone to see, i think this issue must be addressed as publicly as you made it.
i am flattered that you found inspiration in my words, i really am, and i know writers and artists constantly joke about “stealing” from each other to perfect themselves and grow in their art, but this is something different entirely and quite too far. this is not a blurred, fine line you crossed. you basically took my poems and changed one or two words and called them yours - especially the second one, which is nothing close to a common say.
i felt it, deeply, when i wrote it. even if it’s just few words, their meaning and placing and using and structure were calculated for hours. you cannot just take that as you please and think it’s okay.
again, i’m glad you saw yourself in them, that’s writing’s aim and what one wants when creating art in the first place. but you didn’t write that and you cannot post it nor call it yours, and i’m honestly really let down by the fact you thought it was okay to do such a thing, disregarding another writer’s art completely.
please take them down and write a post that explains to your followers that those “thoughts” were inspired by my poems - or reblog this one. also, i know you have books of yours you sell, i really hope my poems are not in there as well? or the issue would become really serious.
writers should protect other writers, especially online, not disrespecting and stealing from each other. plagiarism should never be permitted nor excused.
i wish you never have to experience the horror of finding out your words taken, used and signed by someone else.
