#rampart why are you so adorable

Hi! I adore your stories but I did have a question regarding traveling theives.
The 'free hybrid' cities...what's stopping some humans from just raiding those and taking hybrids from them?
Hello! I’m so glad you adore Traveling Thieves!
Well, the free hybrid cities are on the northern coast past the mountains. The human kingdom of the old continent is south of the mountains. So not only would a human group have to go through the mountains to reach them, they’d also have to go through the Northern Elven Territory…and the elves are very territorial, they don’t like people criss crossing their lands without permission, especially not humans ready for a fight. Plus, the free hybrids cities are their own small kingdoms, with walls, ramparts, not to mention, yknow…free hybrids. Who on average would be more than a match for a human one on one. So yeah! That’s why! ☺️

"keep an eye on your brothers, they need it" ~ Hera, the wisest person in the show fr
...did Chopper just say "Chopper out"
Crosshair has too many expressions to count this last scene, asking to hunt the batch down... my theory is he never had his chip removed but that venator engine fried it and it slowly stops working... we know that a lot of the chips are slowly starting to stop working in other clones, maybe its the same for Crosshair ?? so he's feeling a lot of confusion at hunting them down ?? maybe idk lol
two more down!!! my internet is still shocking and it's taking me like an hour to watch each ep bc of all the buffering 🥲 but anywayyy thank yalls for joining 💕💕💕

Headcanons for Yandere!Jacaerys Velaryon x Twin!Reader (Part 1)
based on my character ai chat lmfao ITS GONNA BE 3 PARTS
TW: Jace being a psycho, manipulative/abusive behavior
-you are younger than Jace by ten minutes, a fact which he never ceases to remind you of
-you are the light of Rhaenyra's life, her only daughter, she adores you, and so she spoils you, leading to you being a bit of a brat
-you always boss Jace around, making him bring you flowers or presents, or do stupid things because he wants to impress you so badly
-you do love your twin, but you love playing this little game more, and so you pretend to be completely unimpressed with anything and everything he does, teasing him is your favorite pastime
-rhaenyra betroths the two of you, a fact which aegon and aemond do not like (they both had designs on you)
-as the two of you get older, Jace has more and more duties, considering he is the prince of Dragonstone now and rhaenyra's heir
-one day, you sit at breakfast with him and say that you're bored, he suggests the two of you have a nice lunch together and try some of the dornish red wine that just came in
-you roll your eyes and say that sounds terribly boring and that he has become boring
-he takes offense to that, asking why you would say that and your words are breaking his heart
-you look at him and scoff, calling him a drama queen
-THIS is what truly angers him, he asks what you would have him do to prove his love, claim a wild dragon for you? fling himself from the ramparts? start a war? go to the wall and bring you the head of a white walker?
-at the last one, you snicker to yourself and sarcastically tell him you'll see him when he returns from the wall
-he looks at you in shock and storms off while you laugh, not realizing he took you seriously
-your twin leaves on dragon back, you assume its to visit lord cregan, his friend, and so you think nothing of it, ignoring the fact that he has taken a Valyrian steel sword
-two weeks later, you're sitting and reading in the library at dragonstone, when the door is thrown open
-you recognize the sound of Jace's footsteps, but do not bother to get up and greet him, he tosses something at your feet
-you don't even look up, still reading, "how was your visit with lord cregan?" you ask
-he nearly growls and moves over to you, grabbing you by the hair and forcing you to look at him, surprising you, "I did what you asked, beloved sister"
-he forces you to look at the ground and you see the head of a white walker, staring at you, grotesque and rotting, you jump up on your chair, horrified, "What is that thing?"
-jace's eyes are crazed as he picks up the head and waves it in your face, "you don't like my gift, sister?"
-"I WASN'T FUCKING SERIOUS, JACE!"
-you see that his clothes are covered in blood and dirt, his normally warm brown eyes dance with madness
-he drags you outside, the white walker head in one of his hands, his other hand dragging you by the arm
-he takes you to the edge of the castle, dangling the head over the edge, "shall I drop it?"
-you see Joffrey, little viserys, and little aegon playing where he plans on dropping it
-you nearly scream "no! Jace, please!"
-he laughs, unsheathing the Valyrian steel sword he took with him, "this is the blade that I slaughtered the white walkers with, sister. it's a fine blade, is it not?" you stare at him in horror for a moment, making him grab you by the chin, "is it not?"
-you nod quickly, "y-yes. tis a fine blade brother. im sure you were very brave."
-he laughs, dark and ominous, "I have not heard it yet. your apology nor your thanks"
-you look at him, surprised, "apology?"
-his gaze darkens as he leans in, his nose brushing against yours, "you called me, what was it... ah, a drama queen, well sister, it would appear you screaming when you saw the head makes you the dramatic one"
-you mutter a half-hearted apology, but Jace doesn't like this, he grips your hair again, turning your face to meet his, "say it like you mean it, sister"
-you sigh, "im sorry for insulting your fragile ego, brother, well done, you've bested me this once"
-then, he pulls his sword on you, "that wasn't it"
-you panic and apologize, "im sorry for insulting you, brother! I won't do it again"
-he laughs, still holding the sword out, the blade still caked with blood
-he slowly pulls it away and speaks again, "from now on, you will obey and respect me. I am not just your brother, I am your future king and your future husband. is that clear?"
-you're silent for a moment, so he grabs you by the throat, pulling you closer to him than is appropriate as he snarls, "is that clear?"
-you agree, frantic, "yes, yes it's clear!"
-he nods, not yet releasing you, "you will come to my chambers after dinner tonight."
-you give him a weary look, "that is not proper-"
-he laughs maniacally in your face, "dear, sweet sister, I was not fucking asking you. I was telling you"

Cut and Run time
Early intro to Hunter and Echo's co-leading style where Hunter makes the calls but Echo tends to be the one he uses as a soundboard. No wonder he absolutely cannot function even more than before when Echo leaves.
I swear the Omega Discovers Dirt scene was just to flex with the dirt cloud animations.
I REALLY want to know how the batch met Cut. But also, Tech's SMILE and very very slight laughter undertone when saying "Why not? We're all deserters now." is giving me life. As is Echo's FACE OF REALIZATION here.
Tumblr media
"Ma'am" Echo is the most polite and CUTEST PERSON ALIVE.
Okay I can never get over Cut's face falling into worried and then asking about Crosshair and he is SO sincere about it. The quiet subtle way that this informs Aftermath, even if you didn't see him in TCW it DOES tell you that Crosshair wasn't Always like that, and that Cut at least has a positive enough relationship with him to be concerned about him.
Tumblr media
Also he absolutely is worried at first that Crosshair has been killed, you know he is, like, that is always going to be a risk with clones. Hearing that it's complicated and getting into mind control discussions isn't like GREAT but at least it's better than him having been killed during the war right
Omega though, just. Casually. OH HE MUST MEAN THE INHIBITOR CHIP :D She's so chipper about it. Like it was just a thing surely everyone knew. And then Tech backing her up with HOW ELSE DID YOU THINK IT WORKED? Ridiculous squad.
Honestly the expressions in this episode are fucking gold because the knowing smiles when Hunter nods for Omega to go ahead outside and Hunter's bewildered double take. He is not a parent. He swears.
Tumblr media
He JUST MET THAT KID he's NOT a parent.
Tumblr media
Anyway Cut's onto his bullshit.
OMEGA NOT KNOWING WHAT FUN IS THOUGH. BABY GIRL. Learning about dirt AND fun in one day.
Cut's single grey streak in his hair is gorgeous too, what a handsome man. He also looks like he's got a bit of dad bod going too.
Rampart is doing his very best customer service voice about chain codes. But even a glimpse at his face has me going BOO HISS BOO.
Now Omega gets to learn about mortal danger, it's a very busy day for this child. Cut's soft dadding has me Emotional. He's SO GENTLE.
"Tech do you think you can forge some chain codes?" "I only learned of them moments ago, but yes!" The way I adore him your honor.
The moment with Omega taking off her headpiece is so underrated, like despite how much she wants to be with the batch, Kamino was her home and this was a piece of her life that she already knows doesn't fit anymore. But even if it doesn't fit, it's still a lot to take it off and officially leave that behind her.
It's SENDING ME that Tech doesn't even actually say they should impound the ship he just sideways implies it and Echo picks it up IMMEDIATELY and then goes 'yeah okay' like we say that Echo carries the brain cell but when put into range of Tech that brain cell goes pinging off into the fucking distance like it was set next to an opposite charged magnet.
"YOU DID WHAT? T E E E E C H."
Hunter is just. YELLING INTO THAT COMM. HE IS SO MAD.
Tumblr media
Full Of Rage
I love the Tech & Echo dynamic so fucking much, honestly, Tech being so chill and then Echo just. WE CAN'T GET CAUGHT AT ALL WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT??????
Like Echo, bby, you knew exactly what you were doing when you went along with this plan.
"Found her." The pointing really sells it.
Tumblr media
"Well... We didn't let her go!" Followed up by Tech and Echo squabbling over removing the boot is so funny, this episode is SO fucking funny and I feel like we don't talk about how hilarious it is enough.
I admit part of why I want season 3 to have a portion where Echo and Tech are on their own together is because I adore the squabbling they're so fucking funny. When Echo asks if he wants to give it a try apparently he did because he was already outside to stun the guy that catches them.
Wrecker is so sweet and gentle with Omega I'm <3 The Boy.
Okay though the fact that Hunter literally did not tell Omega anything at all, just straight up said Nothing because it was going to be a hard conversation and Hunter will physically leap off a building before willingly having a hard conversation. And they do this to her REPEATEDLY because they didn't tell her about Echo leaving either in season two. No need to have hard discussions when you can just spring something on the child with no warning, right? Anyway, his avoidance is established so early and there's no way he gets through the whole of season 3 without being forced to confront it and willingly undertake a Difficult Thing without being forced into it.
THE FACT THAT HE DIDN'T EVEN HAVE THIS CONVERSATION WITH WRECKER presumably because Wrecker would have tried to talk him out of it because he's the first one that engages with Omega as an Individual and not like, the vague concept of a child.
Hoist your local Gonky for enrichment purposes
This is just such a sweet and sincere episode that also happens to be hilarious, I just really adore it.

Hi its me again 😄😄😄 i'm the anon that sends my very first ask to you 🥰 actually i have reblogged and given tons of hashtags on your Studious works but i like being *mysterious* 🤫
Anyway i just wanna say that everyday i look upon the dashboard only to wait for your new update for Studious 😘 I adore this series so frickin much even when i'm not even a fan of series because i hate waiting but you are just that special to me 🤩🤩🤩 So have you got any planned date for the release of part IV, so that i can have the date marked on my calendar 🥺 its totally fine even if you don't have the exact date And maybe i'm too greedy, this would be all up to you, but may i have a tiny bitsy of sneak peak for the next part please please please 😭 i'm literally begging you 😭😭😭 just a lil part about 200 words then i can sleep peacefully tonight, but once again it would be your decision whether to feed us with the crumbs 🤗 (but i hope its a yes 😭😭😭😭😭) Please stay healthy and happy always!!! Thank you so so much for all the efforts you put into the series, i appreciate those a lot 💕💗💖😻
Hello again! I will resist the urge to look through all my notes so that you can retain your *mysterious* air!
I'm so sorry Studious is taking so long, I've had kind of a creative block these past few weeks. I literally open the document and just stare at it and don't write anything. Only a few blurbs have been coming to me.
I don't have an exact date, but I'm hoping it'll be soon! I do have kind of a busy week this week - I have several job interviews and I'm going wedding dress shopping with my sister - but I actually write best when I'm busy? So hopefully a lot of progress this week!
And because you're so mysterious and sweet... absolutely you can have a sneak peek!
For context, this is the beginning of Aemond's diary entry on his and reader's two-week anniversary. Or, as I like to call it in my outline, the "second fucking."
Studious IV Sneak Peek
The 26th day in the 5th moon of the year.
I had hoped not to make an entry today – for I had every intention of spending tonight in my wife’s chambers. But she is there, and tragically, I am here.
Tonight was almost worse than our wedding night.
When I saw her watching me in the training yard today, I thought… she was almost smiling – at me! She had no obligation to be there, and yet she was! She sought me out! She wanted to see me!
I had to bite back a cry of joy and relief. I immediately abandoned the rest of my training, nearly throwing my sword to the poor squire in the yard so that I could rush to the ramparts and greet her.
But when I got there, she was gone. I asked a few of the other lords and ladies that were there, but no one knew where she went. Even after speaking to her, however briefly, I still do not understand why she left.
You felt your cheeks flush with shame. Aemond hadn’t grimaced at you that day – quite the opposite. He had been so excited to see you there, and as usual, you had misinterpreted his reaction.
Or, based on how frequently these misunderstandings occurred, perhaps his expressions were merely indecipherable to normal people. Or, more likely, maybe just to you.

Okay! Thoughts on “Retrieval.” This was so much easier to get through.
1. Oh hey! It’s not a big heavy emotional episode that speaks to my soul THANK GOD
2. Seriously, it was kind of nice to get a break. This season seems to be following the same general pattern of season one where episodes 7, 8, and 9 are heavy hitters, while episode 10 serves as a bit of a breather.
3. That said…this…is probably my least favorite episode of the season. I don’t dislike it, I don’t even think it’s a bad episode, but I personally found it a little clumsy, and every other episode of the season has been so good that this one falls a little flat by comparison. Especially on the heels of the last three. Now, that said, there are so many little moments in this I adore, even if I think the whole is a little clunky.
4. *don’t check tbbtwitter DON’t check tbbtwitter don’t do it don’t check tbbtwitter don’t oh shoot why did I check tbbtwitter WhhHhhYyyyyYyyyyyyyyyy*
5. Okay, I get the frustration that things aren’t moving fast enough more than I usually do. I don’t one-hundred percent agree, but I get it. I get wanting more Crosshair, wanting more for Hunter and Wrecker, and wondering where, exactly, the season is going. But I also have a general rule of not criticizing a show until for not doing something I want it to do until the show is completely done, because nine times out of ten the show either ends up doing it OR ends up doing something other than what I expected that ends up being better anyways. Now, that’s my rule, and it doesn’t have to be anyone else’s, but I’m going to sit over here and wait to see what happens. And enjoy what we’re getting now in the meantime. Because whatever criticisms I have, and I do have some, there’s some good stuff here.
6. I loved the fact that the gang isn’t just waiting for Cid to come get them. It shows that they don’t trust her enough to expect that she will help them out, and they’re taking proactive measures to get themselves out of this situation now while they’re all still pretty able and not actively starving to death instead of waiting for her to inevitably not come through for them and having to figure something out then.
7. Wrecker really said it was his turn to be extra testy towards everyone this time around, didn’t he?
8. Really, though, Wrecker’s not having a good time here. He’s missing Echo and Crosshair and the marauder got stolen and they’re stranded and on top of everything else it’s hot and he’s hungry and you know what? Be as irritated as you want, my guy. And you know things are bad when he starts saying things like, “Don’t get your hopes up, kid,” to Omega.
9. Wrecker watching that piece fall off the bike, staring at it, and then Giving Up because Woe Be Upon Him was a Mood.
10. There’s the parallel between Rampart interrupted Crosshair every time he tries to eat and Mokko using food as a way to control the kids in the mine, yes, but there’s also an uncomfortable semi-parallel between that and Cid NOT sending immediate help when she knew the gang didn’t have enough food to last even a few days. It’s that whole “gotta way to live, gotta work to eat, gotta put yourself in abusive and exploitative situations to work” trap.
11. Wrecker really rolled for intimidation on a fifteen year old. He actually rolled a 5, but he’s got a +30 modifier, so it doesn’t matter. (I will admit that I don’t know how modifiers work).
12. Actually, Wrecker going around growling at everything in general and Benni in particular because he’s hangry, agitated, and just trying to move things along as fast as possible made me realize that Wrecker actually doesn’t capitalize on how physically intimidating he is all that often. Yeah, he’s big, loud, and over the top, but he almost never throws his weight around to make himself seem scary. If anything he spends a lot of the time doing the exact opposite.
13. Gonky, coming in at the clutch!
14. “That’s our defective power droid.” I love how protective they are of Gonky! He’s like the beloved family dog who really just kind of sleeps all the time, but everyone loves him all the same.
15. Hunter: *dives face first into the void*
Somewhere in the back of my mind, as though from a great distance: HE’S SO HOOOOOT!! AND RESPECTFUUUULLLL!!!
16. Seriously, who gave him the right—
17. I really liked Omega seeing first hand how bad things for those kids were, and how Mokko pitted them against each other. Omega pointing out that the way Mokko treated them all was wrong was probably the first time Benni ever really heard something like that. It’s hard to see how abusive a situation is from the inside. *cough cough Cid cough cough the Empire*
18. This was actually a really good episode for Omega in general. She’s seeing more of the galaxy outside Kamino, seeing how the galaxy isn’t divided into “The Empire” and “Everyone Else,” bonding with people outside the batch, learning about other people’s perspectives and concepts of home, and trying to make things better with small acts of kindness. Like giving Benni her ration bar. She doesn’t know how soon it is before she’s going to eat next because who knows if they will, in fact, get out of there, but she still hands it over completely unprompted, because she knows this kid is starving. And even though getting access to Mokko’s profit records wasn’t her goal, she does take the time to look through them and point out that the math definitely isn’t mathing with how poor the mine is supposed to be.
19. I was a little bit annoyed that Hunter didn’t immediately step in and help those kids, but that, “We’re not engaging. These kids have it bad enough as it is,” does a lot to explain why. He doesn’t have all the information that Omega ends up having about the mine’s profits at this point, so he thinks the mind really is poor. He doesn’t have the means to take care of all of these kids if he, for example, tried to shuttle them off-world or anywhere to take them if he did—the kids would still be stuck with nothing. And it’s not as though the team can’t really use their normal skill set to, say, overthrow Mokko. One missed shot from anyone would destroy the entire mine and leave the minor miners with even less at best, and kill everyone inside at worst. He’s not backing away from helping because he doesn’t care, he’s backing away because he doesn’t want to make things worse. It’s not handled as deftly as the bad batch usually handles things like this, but I do appreciate that it’s there.
20. Season two has been focusing on Omega’s relationship with Echo and Tech more than it’s been focusing on her relationship with Hunter, but, even though I do miss their talks, there’s absolutely been growth here. The guys have equipped Omega to be able to handle herself and Hunter has complete faith in her to do so. Can you imagine season one Hunter watching Omega throw herself off the end of a walkway and into a pit of fiery death without screaming at her to stop and having all the heart attacks at once? Or early season two Hunter? No. But here, he knows she’s going to be able to make the leap and she knows that he’ll catch her. They don’t even have to talk that plan out, they’re that in sync.
21. Oh hey, look at the way Tech is checking on Omega and talking things out with her since their heart to heart last episode! I love the growth in their relationship!
22. All right, I know Tech’s line about how there are others like them in the galaxy and how that’s something is getting ripped apart in some circle somewhere, but…while I do think the line is a little clumsy in this particular context, since the batch didn’t go in with the intention of freeing the kids in this mine, I think it’s being misunderstood. I don’t think Tech is saying that they’re big damn heroes or anything like that. I think he’s saying that they’re helpers. Because for a group of people that really just wants to lay low and live a bit selfishly, they go out of their way to help out. A lot.
They’re not battling it out with the empire, they’re not taking on that big fight, but they do just a little bit of good almost everywhere they go. Hunter wasn’t able to save Caleb, for example, but doing what he could did Caleb the chance to get away. They don’t follow orders on Onderon, which allows Saw to get away and fight another day, too. Echo gets a bunch of droids away from what seems to be another abusive work environment, they go to Saleucami looking for a place to lay low and end up helping the Lawquanes escape, they intentionally flub a job for Cid to hand important intel over to people they know will use it to fight the empire, they save Hera’s parents, they save Gregor, Tech helps one of the few surviving Serennian’s get access to his people’s history, they help Cid out of real mafia level trouble more than once for no other reason than that it’s the right thing to do (and to keep Omega from being sad), the immediately drop a job when they realize a kid is being trafficked and then help defend that kid’s home, they take a huge risk to help Rex with an important mission (this did backfire but it wasn’t on them), and, no, they didn’t come to this mine with the intention to help the kids out but the still did give those kids the means and information to help themselves (tightening this episode up a bit could have made that more clear and made that line feel less off, but it is absolutely there).
That’s what Tech’s saying; they help people out, and at the least try their best to not make things worse, and they’re not alone. And in a galaxy full of Ramparts and Mokko’s, that does count for something.
23. Tech and Wrecker could’ve shot those droids on the bridge at any time. They didn’t, however, because taking out the droids before the kids all turned on Makko would have meant probably having to stun the kids, too. And normally they’d probably okay with that, but they are standing over a molten chasm of death, and it wasn’t worth taking the risk of a kid falling.
24. *flashbacks to exactly this time in season one when half of tbbtwitter got pissed at the Raxus episode for almost the same reasons and declared they were giving up on the show because it wasn’t moving fast enough I get it I do but I swear to god*
25. Makko’s death was underwhelming; I’m glad Tech pointed out the parallel between how Makko controlled the miners and how the Empire controls everything, even though I’m not sure how he knew what Makko was doing unless Benni just casually told them what was happening thinking that it’s totally normal in a scene I would have liked to have seen; and there was something just a little it clunky about how the batch ended up helping out here. Those are my criticisms. But it’s not a bad episode by any stretch.
26. This is still my least favorite episode of the season, but I’ve talked myself into liking it more.
27. I think this technically counts as a successful mission. They got what they came for (the ipsium) and they’re headed back in one piece. Reeaaaaal curious how the next time they see Cid is going to go, though. I sort of have a theory that she maybe wanted them to get stranded. I don’t think Cid is evil, and she does have a genuine soft spot for Omega, but I could see Cid selling them out because she got herself in way too over her head and needed a way out.
28. Wrecker and Lula!! 🥺
29. Was…that Crosshair’s weapons kit on the cart at the end? I need to go rewatch “Replacements.”
30. Yeah, so we’re, like…definitely getting a season three, aren’t we? That’s not exactly a question—I really mean that episodes like this that make the story take it’s time to go places really makes it feel like at least three seasons are in the bag.
31. I forgot to mention that I liked the fact that both Tech and Wrecker were fixing the bike and the ship. It’s low key, but I always love seeing more of Wrecker’s mechanical/technical skill.

ok
i had to wait ALL DAY TO BE ABLE TO WATCH THE EPISODES, but i FINALLY DID
BAD BATCH EP 7-8 SPOILERS UNDER THE CUT
starting with episode seven:
First off, RIYO!!! SHE ABSOLUTELY SLAYED, the way she literally went to 79’s (also AAAA 79S!!!) specifically so she could actually talk to the clones is so so important, she is incredible
Slip was so wonderful, the parallels of him at 79s and then running through Coruscant while scared for his life were very painful tho (also his number was ct-0409 and that’s literally irrelevant but like COME ON ITS ONE NUMBER OFF I COULDN’T NOT NOTICE THAT)
Bail Organa!!! He’s here and he’s so so good!!
REXXXXX!!!!!!!!!! Omg when I heard his voice on the comm I FREAKED out and then he had his silly little disguise again and that was so so sweet
The sniper clone that Rampart sent after them was so sad to see, it reminds me of how Cody’s chip clearly wore off, but he still believes he did certain things of his own volition (i.e. “We make our own choices. And we have to live with them too.”). It seems like a lot of clones don’t know what exactly they’re fighting for anymore, and the empire is just not helping at all ofc
Ok and uh… now episode eight… these are just gonna be mostly episode thoughts cause the whole Echo thing,,, that deserves its own post
Starting off, still not over that beginning. Echo IMMEDIATELY getting not just multiple lines, but lines about his TRAUMA, and he’s actually OPENING UP ABOUT IT TO OMEGA???!???!??? “I… don’t enjoy solitude.” LIKE???? OMG??? The pain, the absolute agony, that line has me in a death grip and you bet ur ass that’s ending up in a fic sometime bhskshsjsjksks
His conversation there with Omega makes me think he’d already decided here. When Omega asks if the batch rescuing him is what made him join them, he says, “This is where I fit, where I was needed.” He seems like he already knows that’s changed now
okoKOK, OMEGAS. PONCHO. OMEGAS PONCHO OMGGGSJBSJSBSJSKSLLS SHE WAS SO SO ADORABLE!!! I’ve loved seeing her in situations without the batch, it’s nice to be reminded of how determined she always is even without her brothers right next to her :) (also, really liked how this episode didn’t take her out of the action, but removed her from the fighting so the rest of them could kinda breathe without the story focusing solely on her here)
We had a lot of very long Echo shots + lines during the mission, and that immediately scared me. Rex and his conversation here has me wondering though. Because it seems like either he already talked to Rex about it, since Rex seems to be almost bringing Echo up to speed on what exactly he’s doing, or that Echo is at least really solidifying his decision here, because after Rex’s line of “Help’s hard to come by these days,” Echo looks down and just thinks for a good long time, even after Wrecker calls down to them.
oh my GOD i might make a separate post just about this and other Echo stuff but UM???? When he just took control of the venator, diverted the power, MANNED THE CANONS AND MANAGED TO SHOOT DOWN THE SHIPS HEADED FOR THEM, and then activated the engines to make it harder for the stormtroopers??? Dude???? He can just do all of that?? By himself??? No wonder he wants to fight the Empire, HE COULD LITERALLY BE SO POWERFUL
oh. my. gOD PALPATINE I HATE HIM OH I HATE HIM SO MUCH. THE ABSOLUTE FEAR I FELT WHEN HE SHOWED UP, AND THEN HE JUST SHIFTED THE BLAME ENTIRELY TO GET EXACTLY WHAT HE WANTED AND BROUGHT THE CLONES INTO IT AT THE SAME TIME??? i very much so hate him.
And ofc, I felt so bad for Omega afterwards when she said “I don’t understand. We did the right thing.” :((((((
ok.
here we go
tagging @phis-writing since u wanted my thoughts lol
first off, Hunters line here. “Wherever you end up, remember what I said.” …wHAT??? WHAT DID YOU SAY I NEED TO KNOW SIR WHAT
omega slowly realizing omg ow
“Best of luck, Echo” ow ow ow omg ow help this is where i started crying
Echo looks so sad trying to tell Omega why he’s leaving, and I get why he didn’t tell her before no matter how long his mind had been made up for, but omg, that hurt so bad. “I’m going where i’m needed.” yup yup there it is, that parallels his lines from the start ow
and tHEN. she hUGS HIM. i can’t hANDLE THIS OMG that was so important
damn it im watching it again while writing this and the music has me sobbing again i cANT, him watching the marauder fly off and then OMEGA HUGGING LULA i actually can’t
I knew Echo was going to leave. Logically, I knew it was going to happen and that it was his best option, he wants to fight the Empire and save his brothers, and that’s just not something the rest of the batch wants to take the risk for. I knew he was leaving, and even though I definitely tried to see every possible way he wouldn’t, I don’t mind it.
Don’t get me wrong, I hate that it might mean he’s getting way less screen time, and I kinda hate that he’s not gonna be there to spur the batch into action anymore, but for his sake I am so so glad he went with Rex. His entire life he’s grown up surrounded by brothers, and the batch has proven time and time again how differently they feel about that. Now, Echos just been sitting back for way too long, and I honestly love the way they had him leave.
There was no fighting, there was no long argument where he said the batch was wrong for not fighting the Empire. He knew they wanted different things, and everyone fully supported him in his decision to step away. He left because that’s where he was needed, to fight for his other family. (Not to mention he would be an INCREDIBLE benefit to Rex like did u SEE WHAT HE DID ON THAT VENATOR??? HE TOOK THAT THING DOWN SINGLE HANDEDLY)
I think it makes complete sense that his loyalty and his drive would lead him to join the rebellion, and I’m so incredibly hopeful it means we’ll get a Rex and Echo episode, probably with Riyo too, I’m SO excited
I’m also really hoping Omega will keep thinking of him and what she saw in the senate. Right now it seems like she’s getting more and more interested in standing up to the empire, and I’m interested to see if she’ll eventually bring it up with the batch? I’m not sure she’d convince them to join the rebellion, but I really hope her drive for justice/revenge doesn’t stop here, she’s angry and she deserves to fight for whatever she believes. Echo taught her too much for her not to.
The hood thing is, he’s coming back :)
(right filoni right please please omg tell me he’s coming back pLEASE)

Random E! Thoughts: S7E02 - Survival On Charter 220
Yet another movie with another new station and crew I don’t care about
This time they even have paramedics that kinda look like Johnny and Roy - or try to, anyway. The dark-haired one has Johnny’s exact season 1 hairstyle. And they are both Insufferable.
The new doctor is adorable, at least. She’s adorable in the San Fran movies and she’s adorable here.
Also, let’s appreciate that Morton is giving people shit about their bedside manner now. Character growth!
(not that it actually means shit, but fwiw the movie does pass the bechdel test! Molly and Dix are talking about apartment stuff)
Also, we get some more glimpses at Dix’ 1960′s Selectric I typewriter.
I’d love to have one like that but they’re Expensive ™ and I really don’t need another typewriter anyway
I adore old planes, so that’s one part about this movie that’s fun
20 minutes into the movies the main characters finally make an appearance
At least they start us off with a fun conversation with these two
I do love Roy’s “amazing how a guy can become dependent upon his partner” line
Johnny borrowing Joanne’s car is Wild
First off, she let him, which. WHY.
Second, hey, Johnny finally got a dog he was allowed to keep!
Third, why the hell didn’t he take his own car
Also, Johnny apparently didn’t replace his TV set after he brought his own to the station after the whole “blowing up the TV nonsense” in season 6
Johnny’s pretty “oh shit” expression when he realized he blabbed about Roy’s TV being broken
Roy is so done
Rich Lady And Her Boytoy/Attorney wasn’t a sideplot I wanted or needed, especially because they are insufferable and we are never given any kind of reason to care about them
As insufferable as the paramedics are in isolation, the found family stuff is pretty damn adorable
I love how the kids want the guy as their new dad and they’re Gonna make it happen
Roy’s talking about it being a slow day again while they’re “restocking” at Rampart, because Roy will never ever learn. I hope his crew has his head about it until he wises up once he makes Captain
53 minutes in, we finally get to the main plot
If I remember this correctly, they actually did get permission to wreck a condemned neighborhood for the plane crash scenes - so let’s take a moment to appreciate all the amazing practical effects that E! had going on, their commitment to amazing explosions and fires and the sheer skill, work, and budget involved. The effects still hold up 50 years later, and I think that is amazing.
Also, Morton and Molly getting to be on the triage team for this one is great
Everybody’s highlight: Johnny getting knocked out cold by a goddamn plane - essentially, anyway
In true E! fashion, they’re even more allergic to lean into the whump than usual - you can’t tell me Roy wouldn’t have been extremely concerned. The show never takes head injuries lightly, and it’s baffling that they’re starting now. Ah well, another one for the fics.

Welcome to ramparted Uruk!
Tumblr media
last updated 18/06/23
It's been a while since I've been part of the Tumblr community, but today, I'm here to officially introduce myself and set forth some changes I would like to implement. Just like the epic hero Gilgamesh, who embarked on his legendary quest for immortality, I too am taking a momentous step toward leaving a digital legacy.
My name is not important, but if you'd like to call me something, Aruru would be appropriate. I primarily use fae/faer pronouns. I'm currently pursuing biochemistry at university, but I find seeking all types of knowledge rewarding.
This blog is a canvas of sorts, a place where I can express my eclectic tastes and passions. It's a delightful mix of things I adore, ranging from heartfelt essays that brought tears to my eyes to whimsical memes that never fail to make me giggle. I'll do my best to tag everything appropriately so you can easily explore the content that catches your interest.
(Cont'd below cut + permissions & links)
Why is my blog themed after the Epic of Gilgamesh? 60% spite, 30% unironic obsession, and 10% ironic humour. Also, I don't want people who know me in real life to find my blog. They must have a hint, though, because I genuinely talk about the story a lot.
In addition to the Epic, I have many other fandom interests. You can, of course, just see what I've posted lately to know what my latest obsession is. If you are on a desktop, my website also has a handy bar on the right side to share what I’m currently enjoying. Additionally, I have a tag list linked below.
I love seeing the creativity on this website, and I'd like to offer some of my ideas and creations. I plan to use this blog as an outlet, especially for ideas I get that I simply can't share with anyone else I know. I also read and write fanfiction, mostly on AO3. I have many projects in the works, a healthy number actually inspired by users on this website! I also like making visual art, whether digital painting or traditional pencil sketches. Currently, I'm focussing on portrait studies.
Furthermore, I plan on starting a YouTube channel soon! It would have a variety of content, whatever I want to post. Mostly, however, I want to start creating video essays. I love the format and have tons of ideas. However, I haven't even begun writing a single script, so we'll just see where this goes first.
Please, reblog and like to your heart's content. I welcome that kind of spam! If you really resonate with my posts, follow this blog and don't hesitate to reach out. I'm excited to connect, have conversations, and build a community united by passions
Take up and read from the lapis tablet Of him, Gilgamesh, who underwent many hardships.

Fathers Do Cry (DMC Vergil one shot)
Summary: Vergil remembers his last Father's Day with Sparda and doesn't really realise how similar to him he has become.
Tags: Father's Day special / DADGIL! / Vergil acting like a dad to Nero
Author’s note: I woke up this morning suddenly inspired. Doesn't happen very often so enjoy ;) ps: I just love Dadgil!
***
His big blue eyes staring without blinking, the child was observing his father sitting by the fireplace in the parlour. Full of admiration, he was detailing all the features of his serious face, all the details of his confident posture and all the different luxurious fabrics that made his purple finery and as he did, he repeated to himself, wished, prayed, that someday, one day, he would grow up to be just like him.          “Aren’t you going to speak, Vergil?” The father’s powerful voice asked as he finally acknowledged the boy’s presence with a small amused smile, wondering what brilliant thoughts were occupying his eldest son’s sharp mind this time.            “I made this for you, father.” With a solemnity that didn’t suit a five-years-old but that somehow fitted Vergil’s young yet wise spirit and his will to be perfect son in the eyes of Sparda, the boy handed a paper sheet to his father.         “ And what would that be?” The man said as he took his son’s gift. “It’s father’s day so … I made you a poem… or tried to.” The adorable embarrassment tensing the child’s traits in funny grimaces made the father's smile wider but Vergil, suddenly too preoccupied with the blue paint stuck under his fingernails, didn’t notice it as he didn’t notice the paternal pride and the love shining in his eyes.               “I thought your mother wanted you and your brother to make a gift together this year.” “ You know Dante” Vergil sighed. “He has no artistic talent whatsoever. He wanted to make you a wooden sword to play with us.”    “ That’s actually a very good idea.”  Vergil frowned; suddenly worried that Sparda would not like his gift and preferred Dante’s – if he had made one of course. “Except when the sword looks like two twigs glued together. You should have seen this, father. It looked ri.di.cu.lous.” Sparda laughed at his son’s attitude, finding amusement in this sibling rivalry. “Why don’t you read me your poem then?”              “ I learnt it by heart actually. The paper is for you to remember this day by … and also because I wanted to illustrate it. Look.” Vergil approached his father, seized the poem from his big hands and climbed on his lap to show him the delicate aquarelle he had painted around the lines. “Impressive. Did your mother help you with this?” Vergil shook his head. “No, I did it on my own. I used a book I saw in that old man’s house I often go to as a reference.”       “ The old academic that lives down the hill? I thought you found him boring.” Vergil shook his head again, furiously this time and with a serious frown. “That’s Dante. Me, I really like him. He teaches me a lot of things. And he has lots of books. It’s incredible.”
Sparda ruffled his son’s silver hair whose hairdo was always made in order to somehow mimic his, thinking what a promising young boy Vergil was. Maybe more promising than Dante to be honest – though he knew he shouldn’t think that.   But there was something that Vergil had that Dante lacked. Perhaps rationality beyond his age … or some kind of maturity … wisdom maybe? He couldn’t really pinpoint what it was exactly. All he knew is that it was something unique and special, just like his son, something that made Sparda certain that one day his eldest would grow up to be a great man, a man greater than him, a man worthy of the Yamato and capable of handling its burdening power.
“Can I recite my poem now?” Sparda smiled at the sparkle in Vergil’s eyes. “Sure.” The boy quickly took back his previous position in front his father, cleared his throat, put his hands behind his back and stuck out his chest.
Sparda listened to every word, fascinated and amazed by his little one’s talent and profoundly moved by all the love, all the meticulousness and the time he put in each line and in each word. “Oh Vergil. The world is not yet ready for someone like you.” The father said as he let a tear roll down his cheek. “Why are you crying, father?” Vergil worried. “Because fathers cry, my son.”
That day was the last time Vergil truly celebrated Father’s day for a few weeks later he had no father, no one to make poems to, no one to admire by the fireplace. Just a memory that he feared would sooner or later fade but that he would cling to dearly for as long as he could.
“Why don’t we bring flowers to Daddy’s statue in the park today?” Eva asked when Vergil was six, when Vergil was seven, when Vergil was eight only to be welcome by a heavy silence that was no longer hiding brilliant thoughts but a painful sadness. But each time he did as Eva suggested, maybe more for her than for him, maybe because he still loved and admired Sparda even if he had left him, maybe because he thought that his father might see him and smile from wherever he was now, the same way he had smiled when he had read him his poem on his last father’s day.
And that’s certainly why, more than three decades later, he was back in this park, on this very special day with a bouquet of purple peonies he had bought on his way here and a memory that never faded. A memory he could still recite.
"Whether the sun shines or the sky cries,                 Whether the day breaks or the night wakes,       My father always as a rampart stands Protecting my house with his bare hands.
He is strong, he is brave                 And the day he always saves.     A knight in cockroach armor     To scare my terror away."
Vergil scoffed at the lines, at the way they rolled off his tongue, finding them funny and childish and not worthy of a Blake or a Fielding at all unlike what he thought when he wrote them as a child. The over-confidence of youth probably.
“Did you just come up with that?” Vergil turned around to see Nero walking towards him with a smirk. A surprise but not a bad one. “Cause the rhyming sucks a little. I expected more of you.”                “ And I suppose you’re an expert in poetry now?”         “ I may read have read one of your books.” He said as he tapped the pocket of his marine blue coat hiding Vergil's most sacred book with pride. “You still have it I see.”     “Hey! It’s a real page turner! Can’t get my nose out of it.” Vergil had a crooked smile, understanding perfectly what his son meant.
Son? Even a year after this reveal he still couldn’t believe this boy before him, the one he had lived such a terrifying yet incredible adventure with, was his own flesh and blood.
A sigh almost escaped Vergil’s lips. How did he make such a fine young man? Someone so selfless, so generous, so loving when he was nothing like that.              “ What are you doing here, Nero?” He asked, trying not to think more about this.      “ Well it’s father’s day, no? So … I made you something… or tried to.” The embarrassed grimace Nero suddenly made made Vergil’s smile grew larger but Nero, too worried to keep the gift covered with the pieces of newspapers he had taped together, didn’t see it as he didn’t see the paternal pride and the love shining in his father’s blue eyes. The same paternal pride Sparda had displayed when Vergil was a little child with a small paper in his hands.  “Thank you Nero.” The man said as he gently took the present from his son's hands, wondering what it was even though the long shape didn’t leave much place for imagination.
He cautiously unwrapped the thing, already feeling a happiness he hadn’t felt in years warming his heart. And when he saw a katana-like wooden sword that purposely looked like Yamato he couldn’t help but smile and let a tiny drop of water blur his blue eyes. “It was Dante’s idea. Though he might have suggested gluing two sticks together.” Nero said as he scratched his head. “It looks amazing.” Vergil’s honesty was like a knife in Nero’s chest but in a good way. It was as if all the stress and all the stupid fear he had felt while making this toy sword had been stabbed away. He felt relieved, joyful even that his always so stern father was genuinely grateful and seemed to appreciate his gift. “That way, you won’t have to tear my arm apart again cause look, you have two now.” Nero tried to joke but his words just erased the smile on Vergil’s face.
“There is not a single day I don't regret what I did to you.” This was Vergil’s way to say he was sorry. Nero was certain of it. He didn’t need to know his father that well to know it. After all, he was somewhat the same. “Hey, it’s in the past. Plus it grew back, so no harm done.” He winked, trying to ease the atmosphere with a bad pun worthy of Dante even though there was a time he would have ripped Vergil’s chest open for what he had done. And a part of him knew he would never forget and maybe never fully forgive what happened.               But right now he was just happy to have a family, to have a father and to finally be able to celebrate a day he has so long hated.  “ This world doesn’t deserve you, son.” Vergil solemnly declared. He had never called Nero that way and that name felt strange yet beautiful to both of them. It made the son and the father smile in ways they never thought they would smile at each other. “ Damn, are you crying old man? I thought devils never cry.” Nero suddenly harrumphed when he finally noticed the water growing in his father's eyes.                   “ Well, fathers do cry." Vergil declared as he allowed a tear of joy and pride to fall along his pale cheek. The first in a very very long time but one he will never regret or brush away. "Father do cry.” He repeated with a glance at the statue of his father behind him.

and still none of them fire...
Hunter picking Omega up again and diving on her 🥲

The Legends React To: Being Handed a Baby
This involves some Pathfinder Book Lore, but its pretty minor.
Bloodhound: Was handed a baby by an overexcited fan at an event. The baby cried at their mask but started to calm down when they began speaking softly; Bloodhound figured it was because the baby recognized their voice from HoloTV. They’re secretly fond of babies and little children, so they might take a little longer to give the child back to its parent than expected, and they might have spent the rest of the event musing, a little sadly, whether or not they and Boone would have ended up with a child.
Gibraltar: Dude loves kids, though he prefers it when they can start running and playing versus when they’re tiny and breakable. Still, babies are cute, and every time he gets handed one at an event, whether it be family or Apex related, he’s ready to be the cool uncle.
Lifeline: Some Apex Exec wanted a picture of the great Lifeline holding his baby for internet points and so just sort of shoved it in her arms. She doesn’t really know what to do with babies. In theory she knows how to keep one alive, but in practice she’s not really run into many in warzones so she just kind of holds it by the torso before eventually moving it to her hip and asking how it’s day has been. Strangely, babies adore her.
Pathfinder: Immediately tries to ask the baby about its hobbies before it starts bawling because it’s being held by some weird metal hands with rubber finger pads and it feels weird. He might love the miniature friends, but they do not love him.
Wraith: She gets roped in to helping Wattson babysit for some Apex Games higher-up and was handed the baby-baby immediately upon arriving so Wattson could chase after the toddler. In short, she finds babies fascinating, with their weird little fingers and huge eyes. She likes talking to them and seeing their reactions, and wonders frequently if she might have had a kid or something before. She acts uninterested because she finds it a little embarrassing to actually like babies, but she never has objected to helping Wattson babysit.
Bangalore: She might have been the baby of her family, but the Williamses is a huge clan and she had tons of little cousins forced into her arms over the years, to the point she still isn’t even surprised if one is handed off to her, and hasn’t questioned it the few times it has happened at events. Like Gibraltar, she prefers it when the kids are old enough to cause a little trouble. Her favorite game to play with babies is peekaboo and she finds the faces they make when she blows a raspberry at them hilarious. She will take these facts to her grave.
Caustic: He holds enough sympathy to find somebody else more capable to hold it, or a decently supportive armchair to leave it in, maybe tape something shiny to the forehead to make sure no one sits on it. But this would only be applicable if anyone actually handed him a baby.
Mirage: Kids! Kids are cool, was a camp counselor that one summer. It was to pick up chicks (and maybe that one guy was kind of cute but he was still questioning that one) but kids were also super fun. Babies? Babies were confusing, babies cry. He’s the baby brother, but unlike Bangalore he didn’t have a bunch of little cousins, he just had himself, so tiny wiggly humans kind of leave him at a loss. He desperately wants a couple of his own one day, though, so he’s taking the numerous occasions fans hand him babies (and try to get him to sign them(he does not)) as a learning opportunity. Many funny faces are made. Many tiny humans have cried. His faces have gotten better since Wraith started bringing him along on her babysitting…missions? Assignments? Either way, there’s a lot less crying babies at events now.
Octane: He actually knows how to hold one because of those health classes in school that his dad and Lifeline forced him to actually go to. If someone just hands him a baby for whatever reason, he’s actually pretty chill about it and definitely doesn’t miss out on the selfie opportunity. It isn’t advisable to leave him alone, though, cause the baby’s first word is liable to be a curse word, and probably in Spanish.
Wattson: She’s always happy to see a new little face! But only one or two at a time. Beyond that babies can get overwhelming, especially if they start crying. It actually isn’t that uncommon for Wattson to just be handed a baby since she grew up with a lot of the executives and staff around the Games and, particularly after her Papa passed, took to babysitting a lot of their kids to avoid being alone. She’s thought a lot of having her own little family, like her and her Papa, except it would be nice to have someone to raise a baby with.
Crypto: Mystik did adopt him and his sister, but that didn’t mean they were exempt from helping in the orphanage. Dude knows how to change, feed, soothe, entertain, and understand babies better than a lot of parents. He doesn’t get handed babies anymore because he keeps his hands firmly in his pockets or otherwise occupied, but on the rare occasions he visits home, he inevitably has an infant cooing in his lap. He’s often thought that the first thing he wants to do whenever he can finally go back to a normal life is find someone, settle down, and adopt a couple kids.
Revenant: Ever wondered what it would sound like if a baby was slam dunked through a basketball hoop? You’ll find out if you give him a baby.
Loba: Imagine the face a cat makes after licking a lemon, and that’s about Loba’s reaction to being handed an infant. She has no idea how to hold one or what to do with it, and she’s not particularly motivated to learn. She doesn’t hate them or anything, she’ll smile and wave at them in the grocery store and is about as happy as anybody else is when you get a random baby to smile at you, but there’s too many potential tragedies associated with the things for her taste. Also, the poop.
Rampart: Will flat out ask someone why the hell they just handed her a baby. Basically a more responsible Octane, except the kid is gonna come back cussing in Hindi. Babysat for money until she was 13 and figured out giant guns were a lot more lucrative and involved a lot less spit-up.
Horizon: She’s always overjoyed! She adores babies, and babies adore her. She is the only Legend to have asked someone if she could hold their baby. She has also been known to wander off with stranger’s children  because she just gets so distracted interacting with them at both scientific and Apex oriented events, but it only caused a little scene once and after that it became, “where’s your kid?” “Horizon’s got ‘em” “Oh cool.” It helps to fill the Newton shaped void in her heart a little better than the vacuum.
Fuse: Got handed a kid a couple times on Salvo, being the cool uncle to Maggie’s nieces and nephews. Though he’s the ideal uncle for 8-12 year olds, he’s cool with babies, makes funny faces, pretends to hold a long-winded conversation for the baby’s amusement and his. Maggie always made fun of him for it in a friendly way, it’s one of the things he misses. Nobody’s handed him a baby since he left Salvo though. He’s kinda disappointed sometimes.
Valkyrie: Doesn’t really “do” babies; it’s something her and Loba agree on, though Valkyrie looks less like she licked a lemon and more like a pianist who’s been handed a cello and told to play Fur Elise; she just flat out doesn’t know what to do with them and does not care. Her mom tried to get her to babysit growing up, but she always had the tendency to vanish when the idea of responsibility reared its ugly head. If handed a baby, she will hand it to the next nearest Legend and immediately vacate the premises.

After five days in Erebor, Arielle was finally given a day off, which she desperately needed. Day after day, she’d come into the Great Hall, only to see Thorin at his usual table, with his usual group of dwarves, and the adoring Miss Caisys as well. Every time she saw the woman’s perfectly perfect face, Arielle had the maddening urge to punch it and since her hand had almost healed, it took all of her will to keep from doing just that.
And despite his griping about it, Thorin certainly didn’t seem all that put out by her presence either, which only served to make Arielle’s jealousy that much worse. In fact, he seemed to spend quite a good deal of time with her. So, as she put distance between herself and Erebor, Arielle tried to push them both out of her mind, since she couldn’t push Miss Caisys off the ramparts.
It was a glorious day, with hints of summer in the air. The sky was crystal blue, with big, fluffy clouds dotting it, and as she drew near Dale, the smells of the open air market teased her nose—chestnuts, sweets, spices and roasted meats—they all smelled heavenly.
Her spirits dimmed a bit as she made her way along Stone Street, to the small flat with the faded red door and matching shutters. It was home, even if it was not quite as appealing as Erebor. It was still a step up from Esgaroth. Elen was singing, his voice low and mellow, and he stopped when she opened the door, smiling as he said, “Welcome home!”
“Don’t welcome home me,” she snapped, throwing the door shut behind her, then stomped over to the faded, threadbare sofa underneath the front windows. A low sigh leaked through her teeth. “I didn’t meant that, Elen. It’s good to be home, to see you. You have no idea…”
“Having trouble settling in down in Erebor?”
She leveled a look at him. “Trouble would be putting it mildly. I’ve been on edge, just waiting for him to figure out I’m not you. It’s only by some dumb luck that I’ve not been discovered. Which reminds me, how did you know to be me when Thorin Oakenshield came by?”
A hint of red flared along his slanted cheekbones. “I saw him through the window when he knocked and managed to throw on something of yours before he saw me. Did I manage to fool him?”
She nodded. “You did, thank Mahal. I cannot believe I’ve made it through the first week.” She looked down at his casted hand. “How is it feeling?”
“It’s driving me mad, Ari. Do you know how this itches?” He rapped the cast firmly against the wall, knocking a chunk of plaster to the floor. “And nothing helps.”
“Have you dented all the walls, or is this the first one?”
“Oh, hush. I’ve only banged up two so far.” He sank beside her. “How are you holding up being me?”
“It’s painful, El. And I mean literally painful. You should see the raw patches on my ribs.” She shook her head. “But that’s not even the worst of it.”
“Oh, no. What happened?”
“What happened? The King Under the Mountain thinks I am you, El. He thinks I’m a man. And I’m his valet. I dress him. I undress him.” She paused as Elen’s eyes went perfectly round. “Yes, exactly. El, I’ve seen him naked!”
“Why are you looking at him?”
She rolled her eyes. “It wasn’t intentional, you ninny. I’d managed to avoid seeing him until the second morning. I thought he’d sat in the tub, but he’d only stepped into it and…” Her cheeks grew hot at the memory. “Mahal, El, he is perfect.”
“Arielle!”
“What? He is. Mama always told us if we found something beautiful, there was no shame in admiring it.”
He groaned. “She was talking about paintings, Ari, not penises!”
Her cheeks went hot even as she said, “Well, in this case, they were one and the same.”
“I do not want to hear this,” he muttered, getting to his feet to pace the small, rectangular room, taking care to not trip over the scuffed and scratched table in front of the sofa. “He hasn’t caught you ogling him, has he?”
“Well, no. Not so far. And I’m not ogling him. I just told you it was a mistake! I thought he’d already sat down, and his tub is deep enough that once he does that, I see nothing.”
Elen paused, arching one brow. “So, you look on a regular basis, then?”
“No!” She threw herself into the sofa’s back. “But… I don’t know how much longer I can do this. Mahal, he is just so… and he smells so wonderful… and he’s just so… ugh…”
“He’s just so what? Finish the thoughts because I really don’t care much how he smells, you know.”
“Elen, he’s kind. Remember the night he and his Company were in Esgaroth, how he stood on the steps of the Master’s House, in the snow, and made those promises?”
Elen offered up a long look. “Those promises he broke, you mean?”
Eyeroll. “Yes, those promises.”
“I do. Go on.”
“That’s who he is. He talks to me as if I am a real person to him, not just a servant. He does it to everyone, regardless of their place. He’s kind, as I said. And I think he’s lonely, to a certain extent. He seems to prefer being by himself.”
“He lied to a lot of people. Ari. Remember that. And because of him, Esgaroth was destroyed and people lost everything.”
“Oh, I don’t know they were lies. I mean, I don’t know what happened once they got into Erebor, but I think he meant those words when he spoke them. You’ll see, when we swap places. He’s unlike any king ever.”
“Because you’ve known so many?” Elen asked drolly.
“Oh, fine. Forget I said anything. I’ve my wages for you to deposit and then I’ll go back.”
“No, Ari, I’m sorry.” He reached over to grab her hand. “I’ve missed you. It’s too quiet here at night, without you talking in your sleep.”
She glared at him. “That’s you.”
“No, you do as well.”
“I am not arguing it with you.”
He smiled, squeezing her hand. “Tell me of Erebor. What is it like?”
She closed her eyes and leaned her head back. “It’s dark and cool, and there are dwarves everywhere and most of them are very nice. A few are kind of scary. There’s one called Dwalin who looks ready to fight anyone at a moment’s notice, and then there’s his brother Balin who is sweet and wise. Dori likes to talk and is rather fussy and loves tea. Nori is his brother, I think, and he will steal anything not nailed down. Ori is the youngest. He’s sweet and innocent on the surface, but the servants gossip and they think his still waters run quite deep.
“Kili and Fili are Thorin’s nephews. Their mother is his younger sister, Dis, and she’s pushy, but in a nice way. She looks out of everyone and now, she’s decided Thorin needs to… to marry.”
“Oh, there was a hesitation there.” Elen’s fingers tightened about hers. “Why?”
“It’s foolish and I know it, but… I do like him.”
“Ari.”
“I know. I just said it’s foolish, didn’t I?” She pulled her hand from his and rose. “But I cannot help it, either. I remember, that night in Esgaroth, watching him and thinking he was just so handsome. And he is, you know—clothed and naked. And I just cannot stop thinking about him.”
“Take care, Ari,” he cautioned, his voice low and more serous than she’d ever heard. “You will only get yourself hurt. He’s a dwarf and not just any dwarf, but the king of the Longbeards. And we… well…”
“I know.” A low sigh leaked through her teeth as she sank back beside him. “We are half-breed peasants from Dale by way of Esgaroth. But, I have no control over it, El. I’ve told myself it’s madness, but…”
He slid his arm about her. “Just be careful. Don’t read things that aren’t there.”
“I won’t. I’m not a fool, just a dreamer, I suppose. Although, they might be one and the same.”
“No, not necessarily. There is nothing wrong with being a dreamer, as long as you keep one foot firmly in this world as well.” Elen tugged her against him and gave her a squeeze. “Remember, he will have to marry soon and produce an heir and I highly doubt the Longbeards want their king to produce an heir with a half-Elf, half-Man peasant. Although, I daresay it might actually give that bloodline a nice boost, but that’s just me.”
“I know.” She looked up at him. Four minutes separated them and there was no one in the world she trusted more. She’d always looked after him, and he always looked after her. He would never lie to her, no matter how much the truth might hurt, and for that, she loved him. “You know, I originally planned on punching you when I came home to see you. But now, I don’t think I will.”
“Uh…thank you?”
“You know what I mean.”
“I think so, yes.” He pulled her against him and gave her a playful squeeze. “So, let me tell you what has been going on since you left…”
By the time Arielle set foot back in Erebor, her spirits were the highest they’d been since her first day. Just spending time with Elen was enough to brighten her mood, even if only temporarily.
“Excuse me?”
She paused as the unfamiliar, yet unmistakably feminine, voice floated over her shoulder. Peering over it, she was half-tempted to keep walking and pretend she didn’t hear Lady Dis’ friend—the one who was trying her best to become Thorin’s shadow.
But, since it would get back to Thorin and that was absolutely to be avoided, she stopped and turned. “Yes?”
“You’re King Thorin’s manservant, aren’t you?”
Although it was true, Arielle still bristled at the hint of derision that crept into the lady’s voice. She managed to swallow it and force a smile as she said, “I’m his valet, yes.”
“Oh, good! I hoped I hadn’t had you confused with anyone else.” She smiled, her blue eyes dancing merrily. “I’m Miss Caisys. I wouldn’t be surprised if His Highness has spoken of me.”
Now Arielle’s smile was genuine. “Oh, yes, he’s spoken of you, indeed.” And it’s mostly to complain how Dis is shoving you at him, but do go on.
Miss Caisys’ eyes brightened and a hint of a flush (also perfect) swept along her cheekbones. “He has? Oh, I hope it’s nothing bad.”
Arielle bit the inside of her cheek to resist rolling her eyes again. Miss Caisys obviously waited for her to spill all of Thorin’s compliments regarding her, but since the nicest thing he’d said about her so far was she was nice enough, Arielle really didn’t know what to say, aside from a simple, “Nothing bad at all, no."
Perhaps the lady was waiting for her to go on about how Thorin mooned about over her, singing her praises with every breath, for the silence stretched between them until Arielle leaned closer. “How can I help you?”
“Oh, right. I was wondering if you might do me a favor.”
“A favor?” Such as show you up to the ramparts? And shove you over? “What sort of favor?”
A hint of a flush came into Miss Caisys’ cheeks, just above the line of her beard. “I wanted to surprise him, a romantic sort of surprise. And I needed your help.”
Arielle’s gut twisted sharply enough that a sour taste shot up into her mouth. Fortunately, she managed to hold back her wince. “A—a roman-romantic surprise?”
Miss Caisys nodded, her shimmering curls bouncing wildly. “Will you let me into his chambers this evening, before he returns for the night so I might surprise him?”
When pigs fly. Arielle pretended to think it over, but shook her head. “No, I’m afraid I cannot do that at all. Not without his permission and I’ve the feeling that just might ruin your surprise.”
Miss Caisys frowned. “He won’t mind. I promise you, he won’t. In fact, he will probably reward you handsomely for it.”
“With all due respect, Miss Caisys, I do not think he would. In fact, I’m certain he would be very cross with me if I should do such a thing. He’s quite sticky about his privacy, you know.”
“Oh, you would be willing to risk it for me, wouldn’t you?” Miss Caisys’ voice became softly cajoling and to Arielle’s surprise and horror, the dwarf trailed her fingertips along Arielle’s arm. Apparently she looked enough like a man to her. “I mean, you do want to get into my good graces, don’t you?”
Arielle stared down at Miss Caisys’ hand, now resting on her forearm, and then up at the lady herself. Was Miss Caisys actually threatening her? “Your good graces? Are you planning on remaining in Erebor?”
Miss Caisys smiled. “I plan on becoming queen.”
That hit like a punch in the gut, but Arielle managed to keep her expression as one of mild amusement. “I see. And does His Highness know about this?”
Miss Caisys’ smile faded. “Are you always so impertinent?”
“I am when I think my employer is on the verge of being manipulated by someone, yes.”
Now fury glinted in Miss Caisys’ blue eyes and her curls jiggled with indignation as she breathed, “How dare you speak to me this way, you… you servant. You do not think, you do as you are told and I am telling you—”
“I beg your pardon, of course, but I do not work for you. So, if you have a complaint with my behavior, I suggest to speak to His Highness about it. Oh, and be sure to tell him why I told you no.” Arielle smiled and winked and spun about with a brisk, “Good day,” as she resumed her stride.
She could practically feel Miss Caisys’ glare burning a hole between her shoulder blades, and while she refused to give her the satisfaction of turning about, some of her good cheer evaporated as she went below. Hopefully, she hadn’t been too confident in answering for Thorin. It was entirely possible he would be furious with her for ruining what promised to be a good evening for him. For all she knew, he wanted to sleep with Miss Caisys as badly as Miss Caisys apparently wanted to sleep with him.
The knots twisted her gut once more at the very thought. Jealousy stung her, bit into her with shape fangs dripping with bright green venom. Miss Caisys was everything she was not—beautiful, confident, a dwarf. And she didn’t have to pretend she was a man, either. Thorin would be mad if he turned her away.
Meanwhile, Arielle would never be able to do more than dream about being in Miss Caisys’ shoes. Thorin didn’t even know she was a woman, never mind be interested in her in any way other than as his valet.
That was the truth.
And the truth stung like nettles.
“Ah, Elen, there you are.”
She jerked her head up at Thorin’s unexpected greeting. “Am I late? I thought I had until half-five this evening.”
“You’re fine.” He stopped before her. “But, I’m going to need you to help me dress for supper, so…”
She nodded. “Of course.” She paused, then said, “May I ask you something?”
“Of course.”
“Miss Caisys just stopped me on my way in to ask a favor of me and I told her I couldn’t do it, but now, I am not at all certain I had the authority to do it.”
He folded his arms and peered down at her. “What was it?”
She looked over her shoulder at the corridor behind her. It was empty, but one never knew when someone might come along. Gesturing to his apartment, she said, “We should talk inside.”
“Elen, what’s going on?”
“I’ll explain in a moment.”
He sighed, but turned to go back to his apartment, and opened the door to let her step through. Closing the door behind him, he said, “What’s going on?”
Heat stung her cheeks as she looked up at him, “She wanted me to let her in here, later this evening, so she could… well… so she could seduce you, if I’m not misunderstanding her. Which I don’t think I was.”
He just stared. “I beg your pardon?”
She nodded, the heat growing worse, so she turned to pace along behind the sofa—toward his bedchamber, then back toward the door, repeatedly. “She asked me if I’d let her into your flat this evening, before you returned, and I gathered it’s because she wants to wait for you in your bed because why else would it be so important that she be here before you and if she’s in your bed, that really only means one thing, doesn’t it, because why else would she want to be let in here, especially if you’re not here and I didn’t think you would like that at all, but now I’m thinking perhaps you would like it just fine and maybe I should’ve said yes instead—”
He stepped in front of her and caught her by the shoulders. “Stop!”
She pressed her lips together and nodded, then muttered, “Sorry.”
“Now,” his hands tightened on her shoulders, “try it again, only this time, breathe.”
There was no way she could say it all without babbling like an idiot again. And just saying the words at all made her insides twist so badly, she’d rather just babble and not really realize what it was she was even saying. “She wants to sleep with you, I think,” she blurted.
His eyes widened, and he released her, his back going stiff. “She said that?”
“Well, not in those words, no.” She clasped her hands, her fingernails just pressing into her palms. “She did ask me to let her in here to wait for you. She didn’t say where, but I am not stupid. Or, maybe I am, because I told her no.”
She held his stare, her heart hammering at her ribs as she waited for him to offer up a slow smile and tell her that she should have definitely told Miss Caisys she could come in and wait for him.
And when he does say it, try not to throw up, if at all possible.
“You took it upon yourself to answer for me?”
“I did, yes.”
“And she told you she wanted to sleep with me?”
Praying her cheeks wouldn’t go scarlet and betray her, Arielle nodded. “Not in so many words, but I think that’s what she was hinting at.”
The remark about her becoming Erebor’s queen floated to the tip of her tongue, but she held it back. She didn’t know why she held it back, but she did.
A hint of a grin lifted his lips, which made Arielle want to groan and slap a hand against her forehead. He was about to tear into her for telling Miss Caisys no, because no sane man would turn her away. She braced herself for the scolding.
“Thank you.”
“I’m sorry, it won’t happen aga—wait…” she peered up at him through narrowed eyes, “what?”
“I said, thank you. For answering for me.” He smiled as he stepped back. “I thought I had an idea about what she’s angling for, and now I know.”
“I’m afraid I don’t follow.”
He stepped around her and strode toward his bedchamber. “Come in here and help me dress and I’ll explain it and if she should drop any more hints, feel free to turn her away each and every time.”
As he vanished from sight, Arielle smiled, her spirits floated skyward once more. He wasn’t interested in the perfect Miss Caisys? That eased some of her jealousy. Not to mention, she now had Thorin’s permission to tell the perfect Miss Caisys to go take a flying leap.
Well, perhaps not that. But something similar would work just fine.
Thorin bit back his smile as he waited for Elen to follow him. He knew how to force his hand now without letting him know his hand was being forced, which meant that he wasn’t really forcing anything after all, but just getting to the bottom of the mystery, such as it was. He frowned.
His babbling is contagious. Mahal help me.
He leaned against the chest and when Elen came into the room, Thorin said, “What I am about to tell you does not go beyond this room, is that understood?”
Elen’s eyes went round as he nodded. “Of course.”
“She and Dis have been plotting to get me married, and I’ve made it clear to Dis that not only is it really none of her concern, but I really have no wish to be married at this point. I’ve far too much to do here first before I can even think of taking a wife.”
“But she won’t listen.”
“Ah, you’ve met my sister.”
Elen smiled. “I know better than to answer that, Your Highness.”
He chuckled. “Dis is most likely not in on Miss Caisys plot to force my hand, and I’d wager Miss Caisys didn’t plan on you having the backbone to defy her wishes.”
“I don’t answer to her,” Elen said with a shrug. “Only to you.”
“As it shall remain. But,” he moved away from the chest, crossing over to Elen to drape an arm about his shoulders, “we’re both men, are we not?”
“Of course.”
“And you understand why she wants to be let in here, don’t you? I mean, you know it has more to do than just having sex with me, don’t you?”
“Actually,” Elen hedged, shaking his head, “I don’t know. I thought you’d be angry because she’s very pretty and if she’s willing to—”
Thorin bit back his grin even as a hint of triumph shot through him. “She’s willing to what?”
Elen’s cheeks grew redder by the second. “To sleep with you.” He drew in a deep breath and continued, “To sleep with you, you would, of course, want to do so with her right back.”
“Well, ordinarily, I would agree with you. She is pretty. She’s willing. I’d have to be mad to turn her away, wouldn’t I?”
It was almost imperceptible, but Thorin didn’t miss the slight bulge in the muscle along Elen’s jaw, the slight narrowing of his eyes. If he didn’t know any better, he’d think Elen was jealous. His sense of triumph grew and he stepped closer still. “But, there is a problem with that inherently.”
“A—a problem?”
He nodded. “Dwarves don’t view sex lightly, Elen. To us, it’s something sacred and special, and to give yourself to another creates a contract of sorts. It binds you to that other person. And I do not wish to be bound to her.”
“Bound?”
He nodded. “You’re giving yourself to someone. And the whole point of sex is to create life, so it has to be serious. Don’t you think?”
To his surprise, Elen shook his head. “No. I don’t think that.” He moved to the wardrobe to tug open one door. “I mean no disrespect to dwarvish customs at all, but that isn’t how I was raised.”
“Really?” Thorin couldn’t keep the surprise from his voice. He’d expected Elen to agree, and hadn’t given much thought to the fact he (or she) might not. “How were you raised?”
“I was taught that it is perfectly fine to desire someone, to enjoy them, and not necessarily see it as only a means of procreation.” Elen met his gaze easily, his blush receding. “It can be serious, but it’s more about expressing your feelings to the other person, things you might not be able to put into words, or not be able to put into words well. Touch is a powerful expression, whether it’s to heal, or hurt, or to love.”
“You sound as if you speak from experience.”
Elen offered up a shy smile as he shook his head. “I don’t. I’ve… I’ve never… That is…”
The blush came back, only fainter than before. Thorin couldn’t help but smile as he stepped up to Elen. The pulse in his valet’s neck beat a little harder now. “Your time will come,” he said, then stepped back.
“That’s what I’m told. But so far…”
“It will come.” He reached up to unwind the leather tie holding his left braid in place. The rune woven into the plait slid free and he separated the three lengths, then went to work on the braid on the left side of his head, doing the same. He set the leather, the runes, and the silver ornament he also wore on chest, lifted up his comb, and held it out. “If you wouldn’t mind? I’d rather Miss Caisys not think me a slob.”
“But, you said you weren’t interested in her.”
“No, what I said was I wasn’t interested in marrying her. And I’m not. At least, not yet. But, never say never,” he gestured at him with the comb, “ so, if you would.”
He wasn’t at all surprised when Elen hesitated to take the comb. “I should lay out your clothes for this evening first.”
“They can wait.” He held Elen’s gaze easily. “If you would.”
Elen visibly swallowed, then slowly reached for the comb. But, before he took it, he lowered his hand. “I’m afraid I cannot do that, Your Highness.”
Thorin narrowed his eyes as if puzzled by Elen’s words. “Are you going to stand there and refuse a request?”
“I have to.” Elen’s gaze fell to the floor. “Because… because I—”
Thorin closed the space between them, the air seemingly coming alive around them, sparking with electricity as he added, “I know and I know why, my dear boy. I know, because I know you are no lad, Elen.”
Elen’s flinch was almost imperceptible.
Almost.
His eyes widened, then just as quickly went back to normal. He swallowed hard and replied, “I’m—I’m sure I don’t know what you mean.”
“I think you do.”
Elen shook his head and moved to step around him, but Thorin caught him by the upper arm. Slender. Not much muscle at all. “Tell me the truth, Elen.”
“I am Elen Farran, fr-from Dale by way of Es-Esgaroth. And—and…” He held Thorin’s stare for a moment longer, swallowed hard again, and said, “And I need to g-get you a sh-shirt.”
His voice grew softer with each word and that was when Thorin heard it—until now, Elen’s voice had been rather throaty, almost husky. But as he stammered and fell over his words, his voice rose, soft and smooth and most definitely that of a woman. And if that didn’t give it away, the look of horror on Elen’s face that followed most certainly did.
“Tell me the truth,” Thorin repeated, “for if you continue to lie to me—”
Elen’s eyes widened once more as he met Thorin’s. “I—I had little choice, Your Highness…”
“Who are you and why are you pretending to be Elen Farran? And think wisely, lady, for if you lie to me further, I will have no choice but to show you to the dungeon, and trust me, you do not wish to be there.”

✨Bad Batch E14 Spoilers✨
Sooooo I'm about to say a whole lot of not very polite words......
AHHHHHHHHHH HOLY SHIT Y'ALL AHHHHHHHHHH
Let's have a look at my brain melting during this episode (there's a lot oops):
- Commando armor? Slicked back hair? HOLY FUCK GREGOR OMG THE BOY!!!!! WE ACTUALLY GET TO SEE THE BOY!!!!!! (wait hold up does this mean we might see Wolffe too? Not asking for a friend I'm asking for me)
- Eek this is giving me very much "Ahsoka being hunted by Trandoshans" vibes
- Hunter doing knife tricks....that's...well....AHHHHH
- Omg Omega trying to copy the little knife spins is so cute
- REX!!! HIM!!! MY FIRST LOVE!!! HE'S BACK AGAIN!!! YAY!!! Sweetheart that poncho is fantastic!
- Is he ok? IS REX OK??? WHY IS HE RUNNING???
- Here's the thing I love Gregor but like they were a bit too quick to go after him and they still haven't talked about Cross soooooo hmmm
- Ok I have a feeling we are gonna get some Echo character development in this episode. The way Echo looked at Hunter was what got him to cave in and agree to go rescue Gregor. He knows it's the right thing to do and it's so interesting to me that Echo seems to have the strongest sense of moral obligation (aside from Omega). I have a feeling like this might clash with Hunter being the leader and honestly I wanna see how they handle that as a team.
- Nothing would bring me more joy than to absolutely DECK Rampart on behalf of Cross, Howzer, and Eleni Syndulla
- speaking of cross....CROSS!!! YOU'RE HERE!!!
- Wait hold up are they leaving Kamino?
- Also what happens to all the cadets? Like they're little kids...I'm scared
- Ok imma have to go on a whole rant/info dump about Kaminoan history and society later so y'all have that to look forward to in the morning
- Awwww Echo talking about Rex makes me want to cry. He looks up to his older brother so much and it's honestly so sweet
- Hunter using his special abilities? Hunter using his special abilities!
- Omg its just gonna be Hunter, Tech, and Echo?! TECH AND ECHO CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT???
- Look at those boys go! Climbing up a whole ass mountain while I look at a flight of stairs and go "ewww why"
-Ok is it just me or does the whole bottomless pit style base with a lot of red accents gives off Empire but make it First Order Aesthetic...? Just me?
- Tech's eyes are just so ✨p r e t t y✨. That's all.
- STORMTROOPERS? ALREADY?
- OMG ECHO BRINGING UP SKAKO MINOR! AND THEN TALKING ABOUT HOW IF SOMEONE IS BEING HELD AGAINST THEIR WILL THEY HAVE TO GET THEM OUT! DID YOU SEE HUNTER'S REACTION???? EVEN WITHOUT SEEING HIS FACE YOU KNOW HE'S GOTTA BE THINKING ABOUT CROSS!!! LOOK AT HIS BODY LANGUAGE!!! AHHHHHHH
- "i'm thinkin'." whispers Wrecker mindfully.
- I don't know what it is, but i just love this shot:
Tumblr media
- Concept: into the spiderverse but it's just clones jumping off elevators and somehow gracefully free climbing on the walls
- Commando armor is just soooooo cool!!!! Like seriously! Also the TK trooper armor is....interesting
- AHHHHHH GREGOR'S LITTLE VOICE CRACKS!!! HE'S ADORABLE!!!
- "That's CAPTAIN traitor."
- Gregor really do be out here holding up the standard that you have to be a special kind of pretty to be a Captain in the GAR
- Also can we talk about how absolutely jacked Gregor's arms are? Like sir no wonder you aren't wearing any armor on your arms! How would fit! Damn dude
- I miss 99 so much
- Boys using stun rounds. No (intentional) unalives. Good for them.
- Echo and Tech working together and having each other's backs makes me beyond happy
- SASSY TECH AND SASSY GREGOR
- Tech really does yell in all lower case doesn't he?
- NO GREGOR! DAMMIT DAVE STOP SHOOTING THE BOY!
-When I tell you I thought Tech was gonna get shot too.... my god I don't think I would be able to handle that in any capacity
- SPOILER WARNING FOR REBELS: Gregor talking about surviving getting shot hurts me. This hurts my feelings. It hurts my feelings a lot.
- Ok but Tech casually blowing up that air vent grate thing was hot. No I will not elaborate.
- also...ECHO FUCKING YEETED ALL THREE OF THEM AND THEN HIMSELF LIKE AT LEAST 10 FT IN THE AIR!
- Echo carrying Gregor through the air ducts reminds me so much of Rex carrying him on Sako Minor
- WAIT HOLY SHIT OMEGA IS FLYING THE SHIP BY HERSELF!!! LOOK AT HER GO!!! Tech has to be so proud of her. I just know he is.
- Gonky helping + increased theme music = ahhhhhhh yay!
- TECH BACK AT IT AGAIN WITH THE FUCKING SEXY FLIGHT MANEUVERS!!!!!!! My stars I love that man. I'm speechless. It's like almost 4am and I legitimately screeched
- Tech: *flying like a badass* Gregor: bitch what are you doing this is not the time nor place for this shit
- FUCK NOOOOOOO HUNTER!!!!!!! NOOOOOOO!!!!!!
- GONKY!!! AHHHHH
- How tf is Hunter still alive??? Like I'm not complaining but still
- HOLY FUCKING SHIT NOOOOO THIS IS NOT OK!!!!! OMEGA'S VOICE AND SHEER PANIC BREAKS MY HEART!!! TECH'S LOOK OF HOPELESSNESS!!!! AND HUNTER SOUNDING ABSOLUTELY DEFEATED!!!! FUCK I CAN'T HANDLE THIS RIGHT NOW!!!!
- Yo on top of all that Lama Su just got straight up unalived
-hunter in a jail cell......................CROSSHAIR
- Ok but until the very last second, that was the least scrunched up face I have ever seen Cross make. Like you too have lovely eyes it's a shame you're so grouchy all the time. ANYWAY thoughts on that face because my brain is very full rn
FINAL THOUGHTS
- I just love clones more than life itself. Look at the boys go. I love them. I wanna give them all hugs (in regards to Tech…I will not kiss and tell).
- Gregor has and always will be so precious. Love that quirky boy so much.
- WTF IS GOING ON WITH REX??????? I NEED ANSWERS!!!!!!!
- Echo played such a major role in this episode and honestly I'm so glad. I still think there is so much more room to grow his character, but at least it's something.
- Gonky being that bitch this episode 👑
- Not sure if you've noticed, but my soul is no longer attached to my physical form. Tech has it. Tech owns my soul. I am more than ok with this.
- The last 5 minutes really just did that didn't it? Like jeez bro that was a lot
- Cross? Breaks? Hunter? Out? And? They? Both? Escape? After? Having? An? Emotional? Reconciling? PLEASE???????????
Overall, while I did really like the Ryloth episodes, I honestly think this might be my new favorite episode.
The episode itself was well paced
The stakes felt rather high
Fantastic action
Echo played a main part in the storyline
Contributed to not only the plot of the show but added context for how Gregor and Rex meet up
Tech flying and looking hot while doing it...that's very important to the overall ranking
It was engaging and intense with one hell of a cliffhanger at the end
So yeah I really liked this episode! I'm super excited to see what happens next (omg there's only two episodes left oh no scary)!

I think today’s episode of The Bad Batch might be our best one yet?
I think what makes it really stand out to me is that... It comes closest to The Clone Wars in terms of worldbuilding, in terms of that anthological nature, a look at various stories across the galaxy! I think this episode delivers most on that expectation of really getting to see the political intrigue of the Empire as an emerging force, and how different people react to it- I particularly enjoy it’s more nuanced takes as well!
I like seeing how Taa is just as corrupt as ever, and he’s fully submitting to the Empire- And seeing his self interests and resentment towards Cham, his paranoia at losing his control, while Rampart? Taa is just another disposable pawn, he’s less biased about the whole thing but still ruthless, his way of setting up Cham up to be framed for Taa’s assassination...
It’s very clever and twisty writing and paints the Empire as a more subtle kind of evil and dictatorship, and I like how it shows how people like Rampart are actively thinking and considering public interest, especially with Rampart acknowledging that Cham hasn’t committed a crime YET...! Very dark humor when he thanked Taa for his ‘role’, the moment Crosshair showed up onscreen again, I KNEW what he was up to!
The Hera backstory is great, Chopper returns! And Hera getting to hang out with Omega and pass her own wisdom on... I was legit curious how the Bad Batch would factor into this episode, and they were so seamlessly and neatly incorporated as the weapons dealers! I really am getting a better sense of them as people trying their best to survive in a shifting galaxy with new interests.
And the change of perspective when Omega came was also really well done and fluid! It was very sonder looking at our protagonists from a different perspective, as side characters in another story, and helps to further show how Star Wars is about a bunch of people and their stories, somehow intersecting in various ways- Again another strength of The Clone Wars and its anthological nature! It really is a bigger world with different people with their own lives and goals, forced to intersect and react to one another.
Gobi’s not the best, he’s right about the Empire but him using a kid in this, hmm... And Cham is rightfully concerned but you can also tell that he’s so damn tired of fighting and who can blame him? But he still has his sense and I love the insight into how the Empire is playing on the Republic’s past aid-
Especially with Cham bringing up the Ryloth Arc, and Howzer... Why does he still have a sense of self and markings? Was his inhibitor chip deactivated by Rampart as a means of making the ‘face’ of the clone presence here seem more personable, to lower Cham’s guard? Either way I like Howzer having a sense of morality here, again it shows the nuance of the Clones in a situation where they’re no longer the good guys.
I’m kind of disappointed Crosshair didn’t get to interact with the Bad Batch, the circumstances were perfectly aligned for another showdown... But luckily he seems to have handled the ion engine perfectly well, and his sight is just as intact as ever! Seeing the rebels maneuver around each other, as well as the Empire and vice-versa was a lot of fun...
All in all, this might be this show’s most solid episode yet imo! It hits closest to that emotional continuity of The Clone Wars, if expanding the setting and filling in the gaps between the films! I appreciate how the Twi’lek rebels only stun the Clones, because there’s still that familiarity there- That even if they’re only ever following orders, at a point in time those orders DID help them! Plus I feel like Twi’leks would understand the dilemma of slavery well...
And with how this episode ended, we might see the arc continue in the next one! Again, that was another neat thing of The Clone Wars, it was having arcs spread across multiple episodes so they could get in-depth into a storyline, instead of isolating it within a single episode, and continue that narrative across the season! I think this is the closest the show has felt to the original expectation that the fans had in mind, and I for one adore it!
